Future Vocations: What About Foster Parenting?

by Laura Koch, Foster Mom

After many conversations and prayer we decided that fostering would be something that would be good for our family to do. Our children were growing up, we had the space for one child and taking care of children was something we have naturally done over the past 21 years. Our county was (and still is) in need of foster parents, so we decided to attend an informational meeting.

The Amen of God

by The Rev. George Borghardt III

In the name of Jesus. Amen. There is the “Amen” of God. God's “yes” answer. He's at the place of Skull, Golgatha. “Amen” on Good Friday is spelled, “INRI.” Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. We'd erase that, tweak it, make it more agreeable with what we think. But, what was written, stays written.

by The Rev. Dr. Rick Stuckwisch

His expertise, precision, and humility were a shining example to all. Read on to hear what Pastor Stuckwisch experienced as chaplain for a Higher Things conference.

Higher Movies: Hancock

I have been most of my life. I went to see Hancock because there isn’t a Will Smith movie I haven’t seen. I’ve never been disappointed. I learned how to be cool from Men in Black and I even learned how to date from Hitch. I figured after movies like Pursuit of Happiness and I am Legend Will couldn’t make bad movies. I spoke to soon…

Muddy Murky Mess or Beautiful Blessed Bath?!

by the Rev. Paul L. Beisel

The Mississippi River isn’t exactly what you would call “clean.” Its waters are murky, muddy, and filled with all kinds of things that are just better left to the imagination. It’s not the kind of river that invites swimming or eating its fish. This summer we really got to see these murky, muddy waters up close and personal as water levels rose far above normal flood stage. We also got our first taste of sand-bagging, as we desperately tried to keep the flood water from overtaking our town’s water pump. Fortunately for us, we live up on a bluff, far out of the danger zone. But we know plenty of people whose homes and fields were destroyed. One thing is for sure, wherever the water went it left behind an appetizing(!) trail of silt, dead fish, and driftwood.
