I was stopped dead on my late-night window shopping track by this leather bag. Designed by Muñoz Vrandecic, a Barcelona-based fashion house known for incorporating sculptural techniques to the construction of fashion pieces. (Founder and Designer Miguel Munoz Wilson is also a sculptor.) The distressed finish of the black leather, the bare beige leather interior, the unpolished gold hardware, and an embossed gold tag finish. A whole bunch of Tavik swimsuits have just landed at 80spurple, and we particularly like the two featured on this page. The one on the left if you’re feeling more chilled and body conscious and the one of the right if you wake up and the sex goddess in you is taking charge. When thinking of the Gap, I wonder if the brand should serve as a cautionary tale for what can happen when you don’t stay true to yourself or if its struggle is just a sign of the times. From logo changes to high-end designer collaborations, the once quintessential icon of basics, (remember Gap Kahakis?) chased too many trends, left the space wide open for the more clever like J.Crew, Uniqlo to take on a starved men’s market,  refresh the wardrobe of the professional woman and provide the youth with a  fresh practical apparel concept. It could be easy to blame fast fashion but we all know that there is still room for great quality apparel with style. I wrote about Girls’ and its anti-fashion tendencies last week, and we see clothing choices again used to make deprecating statement about the main characters in the series’ 7th episode, titled, “Welcome to Bushwick a.k.a. the Crackcident.“ However, we see another statement as it relates to  wardrobe also emerge.

For starters, there’s Marnie’s outfit (above right), openly degraded by her ex’s new flame, who guesses by her appearance that she’s a member of Real Housewives of New York. (Later Marnie  takes her own shot by making fun of the girl’s headbanded “Navajo” look.) And then poor Shoshanna, whose sequin skirt and tucked in blouse has J.Crew tendencies and yet is clearly out of place at a Bushwick warehouse party. Interestingly, fueled by crack, she tosses the skirt by the end of the episode.
