The Y13 Leavers Assembly is taking place in school today for the year group to get together for a final farewell from the school. Unfortunately, due to exams going on in school, the assembly will be taking place in the Dining Room which does not have the capacity to accomodate parents, carers or guests. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause but hope that you might be able to join us for the Celebration of Success event that will be held in January for students and their families. Please do keep in touch with the school so that we have your up to date contact details to forward the information about this event to you.

We are delighted to present the first in a series of posters for Sweeney Todd. The poster on the left features Y13 student Esme Moxley, who is playing Mrs Lovett. The one to the right is our lead, Sweeney Todd, played by Y13 Eddie-Joe Robinson.

There will be a number of other posters released further down the line featuring other main characters.

The beautiful and professional photography and artwork has been done by our very talented Sixth Form students, Arvinda Gray and Ella Marke.

2013 School Games – Volunteer Opportunity

The Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games is taking place in Sheffield between Thursday 12th and Sunday 15th September 2013 and we are looking for over 400 volunteers to support the delivery of the event. There are a number of volunteering opportunities available, with roles ranging from coordinating volunteers, driving, media and many more!

The location of the event will be held across a number of Sheffield venues. Volunteers will be required to support each day of the event. Shift times for each day will be confirmed in June 2013.

12 National Governing Bodies of Sport are involved in the event, these are: Athletics, Badminton, Cycling, Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Rugby Sevens, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Wheelchair Basketball.We project that circa 1600 athletes will participate in this event across the 12 sports. This is a unique opportunity to support the delivery of an event this size. The Youth Sport Trust has overall responsibility for the management of the event and Sheffield City Council as the host city are responsible for the training, deployment and management of the individual volunteers.

Through this event we aim to reward and recognise a diverse workforce of skilled, trained and enthusiastic young and adult volunteers and inspire them to continue their volunteering journey beyond this event.

We are looking for friendly, outgoing and competent volunteers to fulfill a variety of roles. Volunteers will be acting as representatives for the event therefore the right attitude is essential. No specific experience is required and briefings and training will take place prior to the event to ensure that you are fully prepared for your role and responsibilities.

‘High Storrs School: A Journey’ On Sale!

High Storrs School has a commemorative book, entitled ‘High Storrs School: A Journey’. This sixty-four page volume revisits the history of the high performing Sheffield school, from its beginnings as the Central Secondary School in Leopold Street back in the 1880s, to the recently completed three-year rebuild and refurbishment process.

The book is the result of a three-month collaboration between staff past and present and the Centralians Association alumni, who kindly shared their fascinating memories and helped us explore the school’s history.

On behalf of High Storrs School I am delighted to welcome you to our school website. We are a fully comprehensive school meeting the needs of all abilities across the 11-18 age range in a friendly, caring and hardworking environment. High Storrs is a specialist school for Performing Arts and also Mathematics and Computing and is well known for its high quality work in the Performing Arts.

In September 2011 we completed our BSF rebuilding and refurbishment programme. This has now given our students a learning environment which is second to none:

New sports facilities (including a four court sports hall)
New Drama studios
New Dance studios
New Design & Technology suites

Additionally, we have refurbished all of our classrooms and our School Hall has been redesigned in 1930s style, with state of the Art audio visual facilities. The refurbishment work was designed in consultation with English Heritage, who ensured that many traditional aspects of our school buildings were preserved. The work also includes: new sixth form areas, a new Learning Resource Centre, new Music Suites and a new Learning Support Centre.

Every individual matters in High Storrs School and we seek to encourage every student to develop their all round ability and special talent. Our students benefit from excellent teaching and a broad curriculum which challenges them to progress at a rate which ensures success. Several of our GCSE classes contain students from different year groups.

We have a very strong Primary School links programme and an extremely popular summer school for Year 6 students. This is well supported and ensures that students join our vertical tutor groups in a confident way which helps them to settle in and begin learning.
