Man Dies of Heart Attack on Bump and Grind Trail

Where: Bump and Grind Trail, Palm Springs, California
His mistake: No mistake. His time had come.
What happened: A man was hiking the Bump and Grind trail with friends when he suddenly collapsed. The man suffered a heart attack. His friends called for help and a rescue, including a helicopter, were called to the scene. The rescue crew was unable to resuscitate the man.

The hiker hiked the trail frequently and was said to be in very good shape and friends said he would run up and down the trail with ease.

Doctor Dies on Beginner’s Run in Vail

Where: Vail, Colorado
His mistake: He just lost control
What happened: A doctor from Vail was skiing on a beginner run, when he skied off an embankment and had a bad fall. Despite wearing a helmet, the man died of bodily trauma. This is the second ski death in Colorado this weekend alone.

Snowboarder Dies in Colorado

Where: Breckenridge Ski Resort
His mistake: Seems like he was snowboarding a little out of control
What happened: A young snowboarder, who just got his snowboard fixed, died this weekend while snowboarding at Breckendridge. The man was on the Peak 8 Northstar trail when he crashed into a tree. He died from internal injuries suffered in the accident.

WOMAN DIES AFTER SLIPPING ON LEAVES

Where: Cummins Falls, Blackburn Fork River, Tennessee
Her mistake: She slipped on leaves
What happened: A woman was hiking with two friends near the Cummins Falls. The area is rocky and slick. While she was hiking, she slipped on some leaves and fell over a cliff and suffered fatal head injuries.

Her husband and friend hiked down to her and were able to call for help, but it was too late.

Injured Teen Rescued From Pepper Sauce Cave, Arizona

Where: Pepper Sauce Cave, north side of Mount Lemmon, Arizona
His mistake: Bad luck
What happened: A teen was exploring Pepper Sauce Cave with his father. They were about 200 yards into the cave when the teen slipped and heard a “pop” in his leg. At first he didn’t feel too much pain, but when they looked at the knee, the pain became excruciating.

Other hikers in the area helped the teen by making a splint using tree branches and then used a plastic picnic table to carry the teen to the trailhead. Because the teen showed signs of shock and hypothermia, a helicopter was called in to transport the teen to a local hospital. He has recovered from his injuries and expected to make a full recovery.

Half Naked Man On Mushrooms Rescued on Flatirons

Where: Flatirons, Colorado
His mistake: He was on shrooms and freaking out…duh
What happened: A man and his friend were hiking on the Flatirons. At least one man took psychedelic mushrooms and began “not acting right.” His friend called for help and a rescue group was sent. The man was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

Pro Skier Dies in Utah Avalanche

Who: 38-year-old Matthew Jamie Pierre
Where: Snowbird, Utah
His mistake: He went skiing on a high risk avalanche day
What happened: A professional skier went to get some turns in at Snowbird before the resort opened for the season. He was standing on a cliff when an avalanche swept him off. He was not buried, but by the time rescuers reached him, he was dead.

Even though the area he was skiing in is inbounds, the resort was not open and there was no avalanche control being done at the resort.

Taiwanese Hiker Saved by Smartphone

Where: Nanhu Mountains, Taiwan
His mistake: Just bad luck in a fall
What happened: A man was hiking by himself and fell into a deep ravine. In the fall, the man suffered injuries to his mid-section and other parts of his body. The man, who happened to be a software engineer for a smartphone maker, used his Google Maps app to get his coordinates.

He then called for help and was able to give rescuers his exact location, what he was wearing and also informed them that he had food to last him another day. Rescuers were able to find the man and carried the man down on foot. Rescuers said if the man hadn’t given rescuers his coordinates, the search could have left for days.

Two Climbers Stranded in French Alps For Nearly One Week

Where: Walker Peak, Mont Blanc Massif, France
Their mistake: Bad luck with the weather
What happened: Two climbers are stranded on the 4,208-meter Walker Peak in the Mont Blanc Massif due to bad weather. It is unclear how the climbers called for help, but they did have a phone with them. Unfortunately, the phone’s battery died on Friday.

Rescuers launched a helicopter in hopes to find the climbers, but heavy snow and dense fog hampered the search. A group of eight guides also tried to reach the area by foot, but the bad weather made them turn around.

The stranded climbers dug a snow cave to brave the temperatures. Updates on the rescue coming when stories surface.
