Dear HHICC Family,

In efforts to better communicate and connect with you, we have a new information system here at HHICC. This system will help you register for events, select which team communications you’d like to receive, give online and easily update your information. This also includes a new check in system for Island Kidz and Ignite. We are asking EVERY HHICC attender (over 18) to create a profile before September 7 by following these steps:

1. CLICK HERE to start your new account.

2. Click on the bottom button [ARE YOU NEW? CREATE AN ACCOUNT

3. Enter your email address. A security code will be sent to that email.

4.Copy/Paste the security code into the box on the account set-up page. (Tip: Open a new tab or window to check your email.)

5. Click “Next Step” and enter your information. Then, click “Setup Account.”

6. Update all of your individual information. Once you’re done, click “Save My Changes.” Have questions about creating your profile? Contact us at admin@hiltonheadislandcc.org

To Set Up Online Giving: • Click the “Giving” tab at the top of your profile. • Click the “Click To Give Now” button and enter your payment information, recurring frequency and start date. Click “Submit.” •

Don’t Get Double Charged! Make sure to turn off your previous online account. For directions on how to do this, go to hiltonheadislandcc.org/giving. Welcome Todd and Sami Cooper

We are pleased to announce that Todd and Sami Cooper have accepted the position of Student Pastor here at HHICC. They will join our staff team this Sunday, August 24. You can meet Todd and Sami at our services this Sunday at 9:30a and 11:00a. They will be with our students on Sunday night at 5p (Middle School) and 7p (High School). SHINE - AN Event for women - THIS Saturday, August 9 - 9:30a - 1:00p - Join us for SHINE which is open to ALL WOMEN ages 13 and older. Enjoy food and a great time to connect! Our special speaker will be Donna Roland a professional certified Christian Image Consultant, who will share Fall style tips, how to dress for your color and body shape, and what to look for when you shop.

This event is open to all women at HHICC and all women in our community so bring a friend! We will also be collecting several items for needs in our community. We are collecting FULL SIZE shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and soap as well as loose-fitting women's clothing with an elastic waist band, socks and new undergarments for CODA (Citizens Opposed to Domestic Violence.) You will also find out about our BRAND NEW Women's Mentoring Ministry starting in September.

Children under 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult. The event will begin at Coligny Beach at 5:30p with a time of prayer for the Island and any other prayer requests you have. GROW UP! Leadership Training Event - Saturday, August 23 - 9:30a - 1:00p - Would you like to lead a Life Group this coming year? Do have a passion to teach the Bible to others? Do you enjoy spiritually investing in other people in a one-on-one environment? You are invited to our GROW UP! Training Events this summer. We already hosted an event in July and there is one more left in August. We are expanded our GROW plan for HHICC from Life Groups to other environments like Bible Studies and One-on-One Spiritual Mentoring for men and women, so we need leaders! FUNDAY SUNDAY - TOMORROW! July 20 from 1p-4p at Chaplin Park!

We are excited about out FUNDAY SUNDAY & BEACH BAPTISM! If you would like to be baptized please click here.

If it rains, we will postpone this event till September. Date - TBD. We will make that decision based on the radar at 12:00p.

Here are some details!

1. We will start grilling around 12:00p so if you are attending the 11:00 service, feel free to change clothes at church or come dressed for the park and you can head over there right after the services. You can go ahead and start setting out food and making plates and eating at your leisure!

2. We do have some space in our BACKSTAGE area for you to store food items that you may be bringing on the counter or a refrigerator if you need to store something there during the service. Feel free to go back there and do that. The exterior door will open this Sunday. Please do not put your food in the IK kitchen area.

3. We have tents and tables for the food that we will set up prior to your arrival. Please bring your own chairs and tents for your family if you would like. All the softball supplies will be there as well!

"What's Your Story?" - New Message Series - Starts Sunday, July 27 - 9:30a & 11:00a - Everyone has a story...a timeline of events that culminate into experiences and decisions. What’s your story? Have you ever thought about it in light of when you first became a Christ-follower? Have you ever thought that your story could actually change someone’s life? In this four-week message series, we will unpack Evangelism (i.e. - “The Good News”) and some practical ways we can start conversations about spiritual things. We will also explore how to prepare our story to share it with others and the spiritual responsibility we have to share it with the world around us.

GROW LEADERS NEEDED

We are adding 2 new areas of GROW to our existing Life Groups at HHICC this Fall. The first is One-on-One Mentoring for Men and Women and the 2nd is Bible Studies, which is more of a teacher/student model. We are excited about expanding with more opportunities in different ways for people to grow in their walk with God!

We are looking for people who are interested in leading these GROW areas this Fall so there are several things we want you to know:

If you would like to be a Life Group Leader or Bible Study Leader, becoming a member of HHICC is required. If you have not become a member, please visit http://hiltonheadislandcc.org/the-core and you can complete the membership process.

Here are the defined roles of a Life Group Leader, Bible Study Leader, and Mentor.

1. A Life Group consists of three or more people meeting together for the purpose of Bible Study, prayer, fellowship and service. A Life Group Leader initiates and facilitates discussion for the group and LG leaders will frequently use DVD-based curriculum.

2. A Bible Study is a larger group of people meeting together for the purpose of being taught the Bible in a lecture-type atmosphere. Prayer, fellowship and service are also a part of this group. A Bible Study Leader will have a specific curriculum and will teach that in a lecture format. DVD curriculum will not necessarily be used.

3. Mentoring is a one-on-one environment for men and women to be discipled in their walk with God. Mentors will use an approved curriculum and will have accountability with “Mentoring Coaches” throughout the year. Prayer, Fellowship and Service will be key elements as well as spiritual discipleship in the mentoring relationship. Men will mentor men and women will mentor women.

We will begin in September and will end the first of June. July and August will be reserved for Training for our leaders.

3. Once you have received follow up, we have 2 Training opportunities for you to attend - please choose the one that works best for your schedule. Attendance at a training event is required to be a Mentor, Life Group Leader, or Bible Study Leader this year which is why we are offering 2 dates. Food and childcare will be provided.

Belize Team 2014 Final Update

Friday was another fantastic day. The team was in the village in the morning to attend the graduation of some of the students. Some of our team entertained a few of the younger children while the ceremony was going on and some of them finished some of the work on the building.

One God moment occurred when during a quick tour of the village prior to graduation we saw a whole family walking to the graduation ceremony and we were able to pick them up on our bus and drive them the five miles to the church where graduation was taking place. After our time in the village was over, we had lunch and then got to tour some of the Mayan ruins near the Guatemalan border.

We've had a fantastic time this week working together, serving the people of San Marcos, making new friends, and furthering our partnership with ROW KIDS and the village of San Marcos. Thanks again for your consistent prayers for our team this week.

Belize Team 2014 Update 4

Our ministry in the village the last three days been absolutely amazing. We continue to work on the stucco for the outside of one of the classrooms in the school. We've been able to complete two walls and get started on a third, which was more than we expected. Each afternoon, we conduct a Vacation Bible School with the children there and have had the opportunity to meet many people in the village who we now can call friends! The children are absolutely precious and while according to our standards of living they have next to nothing, the all have smiles on their faces seemingly all of the time. Our team has enjoyed getting to know the children more than anything else that we've done this week. Each day it get harder to leave. Our VBS time has focused on many of the familiar stories in the Bible and also clearly telling them about Jesus and how they can get to know Him personally.

There have been many other "God moments" that we've witnessed outside of the main ministry goals while we've been here in Belize. For instance, it seems like every night when we gather for our daily debriefing there is at least one story of a spiritual conversation that has happened during the day with some of the builders, teachers or each other. God has provided for our team in remarkable ways and we are so thankful for the opportunity that we've had to serve here in the amazing country.

Please be praying for us today. Besides being tired and a bit weary from some very physically demanding work, it's going to be tough knowing that today is our last day visiting with the people and the kids of San Marcos. The principal of the school invited us to their graduation where we will get to watch 8 of our new friends move on to the next phase in their life.

Belize Team 2014 Update 3

Due to random power outages and black outs that happen quite often in the country, our team has not been able to get a blog report out the last couple of days via email. We have spoken to Pastor Todd and the team is doing great! They are continuing to work steadily on the construction of the building and are really enjoying building relationships with the kids in the afternoons through VBS. Please continue to pray for their last couple of days in Belize. They will be flying back on Saturday to the US. Pray specifically for on-time flights from Belize to Atlanta. Thank you so much for your prayers for our team!

Belize Team 2014 Update 2

Monday was our first day in the village of San Marcos. We began today by preparing the mix of sand and concrete to make the stucco for the out side of the walls, applying it to the walls to finish what the HHICC missions team began last summer. Today our team almost finished the first of three walls despite being delayed by a shortage of sand for our stucco mix and a torrential downpour. After lunch an impromptu soccer game broke out which included many of our team along with several of the kids from the village. Then we conducted our two Vacation Bible School sessions (we broke them into two groups based on age). We immediately had a GREAT connection with the kids and they seemed to LOVE having us there with them.

After VBS, yet another soccer game broke out! We are having fun watching many of the children from San Marcos school us in THEIR game! We are having fun despite the soggy conditions. In our devotional time tonight, Liz reminded us of the unique way each of us are gifted by God to do His work. We watched each other work in our unique God-given gifts throughout the whole day. Stacey reminded us that even during a difficult day or season we can put our hope in God. Our team continues to work together amazingly well! Please be praying for us today as we should have at least double the number of kids there (yesterday was a holiday for the kids).

Belize Team 2014 Update 1

Hey HHICC Family!

Thank you for your prayers concerning our travel to Belize! We had a great but long day traveling: Savannah to Atlanta (We joined up with three of our 16 teammates in the ATL), to Belize City via plane; then we had a 2 hour bus ride to San Ignacio, Belize, which will be our home for the next week.

Our trip was uneventful but fun, laughing with and sometimes at each other and getting a glimpse of the unique geography and jungle in Belize. We met up with John Eve with ROW kids, got settled into our rooms, had team devotions, and had a great Belize meal for dinner.

Sunday was a day of team building and R&R . Our team has quickly unified and enjoying each other. After breakfast, we drove into San Ignacio to pick up fresh fruit for lunch later in the day. We then drove to Barton Creek in the mountain jungle area surrounding San Ignacio. Our local guide for the week, Jon C'huk, took us on a Mayan cave canoeing adventure that was absolutely amazing! It was a fantastic team building experience and we learned a lot about Belize and the local Mayan culture and history. After lunch we received communion together as a team. John Eve lead us and had us serve communion to the person to our left. At the end of the day, in reflecting on all that God had done, we realized that the way we were arranged around the circle for communion caused all the father/daughter combinations to have the daughters serve the fathers communion...on Fathers Day! It was an unplanned God moment that we didn't realize until we debriefed at the end of the day. We continue to notice small and large examples of God at work even before our work begins!

To end our day at Barton Creek many from our team did some zip-lining over the Natural rainforest! After heading back to our rooms we had a great devotional time together tonight lead by Josh Polk and Alex Pistilli as they focused our hearts and minds on the issue of being content with what God has given us. Please be praying that our first day on Monday in the village of San Marcos tomorrow is fruitful as we do construction on a school in the morning and Vacation Bible School in the afternoon! Thanks for praying for us.

Student Ministry Transition

This past March, Cody shared with us that he felt God was leading him out of Student Ministry into the role of a Lead Pastor or Associate Lead Pastor. Sunday, June 1, as we honor our Grads, will be Cody's last day on our staff team. Our Students will meet one final time this school year on this coming Sunday night, May 25 at 7p for High School and Wednesday, May 28 at 7p for Middle School.

Cody will be focusing on finishing seminary and will also be pursuing the new position that He feels called to in this next season of ministry. Cody and Mattie plan on remaining in the area until God opens the door for this new season of ministry. Cody will be traveling back and forth to Dallas, TX to finish his seminary degree over the coming months.

We are so thankful for the investment that Cody and Mattie have made in the lives of our middle and high school students since July 2012. Please join us in praying for Cody and Mattie as they take this next step in their lives. We encourage you to contact Pastor Cody and share with him any words of encouragement that you may have about he and Mattie's time here at HHICC. They will be missed!

We have already begun the interview process for a new Student Pastor and our desire is to have our new Student Pastor in place by the Fall of 2014. Pray for us as we diligently seek the new team member that God has for us at HHICC.

This summer, we have a Student Ministry Leadership Team comprised of Pastor Todd and Alex Pistilli - Student Ministry Coordinator, who will leading middle and high school activities and meetings. WE HAVE A NEW LIGHT ON 278!

The new light at the Fresh Market Shoppes is now operational. What does this mean for us?

1. If you are coming from the North End of the Island, you can still turn right at our sign on 278 and our entrance. No change for you!

2. If you are coming from the South End, you must turn left at the new light. You will enter the Hargray Campus at that light. After you turn left at the light, follow the road and then turn right. Follow this secondary road to HHICC which will be down on the left. Follow the signs.

3. You can NO LONGER turn left at our entrance on 278 coming from the South End. This turn lane is now blocked off. 3. Our outdoor greeters will continue to guide you to parking spaces near our building. However, Hargray has given us permission to park in ANY of their lots so if you would like, you can park where you find space at Hargray and walk over to HHICC.

4. When you leave church on Sundays, you can only exit right at our main entrance and then do a U-turn at the light if you are heading back to the North End. It would be BEST for you to go TO THE LIGHT and turn left or right on 278. We will be adding additional signs over the next week to help with safety and traffic flow. Thanks for you patience and for working with our outdoor greeters as they keep our parking lots safe!

Yesterday, our ONE Community Director, Carrie Beck, shared in our services an overview of the generous giving of HHICC the last couple of months. We wanted to share those details with you:

We raised $ 1685 through our "An Evening in December" Christmas Concerts and CD sales. These funds will go directly to our HHI non-profit partners.
125 items were donated for BIG DECEMBER which went to St. Andrews UMC Soup Kitchen for their Christmas Party last Friday. A photo from the party is above.
192 shoe boxes were filled for Operation Christmas Child in November.

u As you know, 10 cents of EVERY dollar you give to HHICC goes toward global and local mission efforts. This past week, we were able to respond to a need on our Island after a fire in Yacht Cove displaced families. Because of your generous giving, we were able to assist with financial needs for housing and other needs for these families this past week.

As 2013 comes to a close, we are excited about more opportunities in 2014 to serve our Island and our global community! Thank you for continuing to give so faithfully each week so we can serve those who have needs on an ongoing basis.

Join us as we take a look at what the life of a fully-devoted follower of Christ looks like and the importance of not flying solo in our spiritual journey.

Student Space Construction beginning in JULY! - We are excited to begin renovations on the remainder of our unfinished warehouse space. Our goal is to finish the space that was left incomplete last summer and to create a finished room for our middle and high school students to have weekly gatherings beginning the end of August. We would like to raise the necessary funds for all the furnishings that are needed in the room (couches, chairs, rugs, staging). If you would like to make a special donation toward these costs, use our online giving option and indicate "student room" or drop your check on Sundays at the Giving Stations and mark "Student Room" in the memo.

From Cody Hensley... "This week has been full of memories never to be forgotten. There were many obstacles in the way, but that never stopped us to fulfill the mission that we set off to do. After the first day, every child found a place in our hearts. Today was the last day to be with the children and it was definitely the hardest. Having to say goodbye was something we all dreaded to come. We showed up to the school this morning at around 9:30 and another missions team was there to deliver shoes. It was amazing to watch how big of a smile the kids had on their face when they got their feet washed, socks, and shoes put on. Once they left we were able to get a chance to spend our last day playing and bonding with the kids. After a few hours,a teacher got the call that the creek, on the way to many childrens' homes, was quickly rising. They all had to leave to get home before they were stuck by the creek. Unfortunately, because they all had to leave so quickly some member of the group were unable to say their goodbyes. It was extremely hard to watch them leave, but at least we know we can see them next year.
Once we left the school, we went to the Mayan Ruins. It was such an amazing sight to see and for everyone. Having the opportunity to be able to learn about the Mayans way of life fascinated and entertained all of us. The journey up was physically challenging, and the way down was physiologically challenging. Once at the top we looked at everything down below. You could see everything from parts of Guatamala and parts of Belize. Overall the trip was an amazing experience for everyone and it touched all of us. The children will always be in our hearts and next year will be so exciting to see them."

Day 4 at the Worksite... from Brianna Norwood.

"Today was a great day for the mission team in Belize. As usual, we all ate a good healthy breakfast to prepare us for the work we knew we faced ahead. On arrival, we began to sift sand to start the preparation of the cement we have been using to lay brick all week. It's great watching everyone work together so diligently with smiles on their faces as if we were playing a game. After the first half of the morning, a strong rainstorm blew in and forced us to lay down our tools for a little while to let it pass. After the rain, the brick was too wet for us to continue laying without destroying what we had already built. It ended up that God had another plan for us today, but we just didn't know it at first. The group had to realize that God is in control and HE knows what he is doing. The group did well with following God's will and didn't let the conditions get them down. For lunch, the teachers made us all a special treat to show their appreciation for our hard work. The group was served tamales and potato salad with a delicious glass of pineapple juice. It was so delicious and a great treat for all of us to try a new cuisine. For the rest of the day, we all got to play with kids and do VBS with them. Singing was great today because the kids have finally learned all the hand motions and words to the songs we've been showing them. Craft time is my personal favorite and today we made paper dolls to show the love Jesus has for all the children of the world. It was great. The group has started to wrap things up and I can tell that tomorrow is going to be full of hard goodbyes. God has worked through all of us this week and our group has been his hands and feet. He has definitely shown us that he is in control."

"Its been going great, the bricks are getting laid and my skin is burning. Today, the kids went up into the rafters of their school and went rat bat hunting and threw them down into the classroom. When Ann Marie came in and looked at the pile of dead bats, the kids threw the bats on top of her from the ceiling! They said "they didn't see her","she wasn't happy and the whole town heard her scream! Anyway, I know God is working here because our plans have been interrupted multiple times with the bus getting stuck and the rain making it not possible to sift the sand to make the cement. I think God has me here to realize how much I have been blessed with and how us here is just a little part of the big picture.

PRAY FOR OUR BELIZE TEAM - Here is the latest update from one of our team members, Meredith Boley..."Today was a great day! The rain held off most of the day, so we were able to get more work done on the school building. In the morning began mixing concrete and laying block for the building while some finished working on the steel work from yesterday. We learned how to mix the concrete by hand and lay block correctly. Everyone on the team was so cooperative and willing to work. It is amazing how God puts teams together with the people He wants to use, and it is clear that everyone on our team has a specific reason for being here. It is cool to see the body of Christ working with all of its parts having a specific job.The kids were really excited to see all of us today. They were ready to play right away! We all had a great time sharing the story of how God's love for us was so great that He sent His Son to take our place on the cross during our VBS time. They were singing loudly, enjoying the games, and loving the crafts, while we enjoyed loving on them. I can't wait to see what the rest of the week holds in store as our relationships with them grow and as God continues to work in their hearts and in ours."

"Today was our first day in San Marcos. We started the day by finding out a tropical depression is passing over, but everyone kept their spirits up determined to do what we could. We got to the school we are building at and got to work as the rain started pouring down. We were soaked, but got a large amount of the metal work completed. A few of the girls found out sifting wet sand is quite a workout! Those that has some down time joined the classroom to allow the students to show off their knowledge of the times tables. As the afternoon got nearer, we started spending more time with the children in the school. The rain did not dampen the smiles of the kids. They were very excited that we were there and made us feel like friends within minutes. The VBS was a little of a learning curve, but the kids loved the games, crafts and the start of their salvation bracelets. The rain should be lessening as week goes on. Pray that we would be following God's will and that the weather wouldn't stop it! Can't wait to see what happens next." - from Mattie Hensley.

Mrs. Diane Guenther, our Island Kid Director, will be transitioning this August from that position and Mrs. Maddie Thompson will be assuming the IK Director role as interim. Diane and Maddie will be working together this summer during the transition. We are actively looking for a full-time IK Director and will host another IK Parent's Night toward the end of the summer with more information.

If you serve on our Guest Service Team as a Sunday morning greeter inside or outside as well as on our hospitality team, please join us THIS SUNDAY, January 6 from 12:30p-2:00p (immediately following the 2nd service ) for lunch and an important team meeting. In light of recent events, we have very important security information to communicate to our Sunday team members as well as new information for the NEW YEAR for everyone so please make every effort to join us this Sunday!

We will also be taking orders for our NEW Guest Service Team shirts so don't miss this!
