Possibly??

I'm not sure honestly, I threw this together a while ago.

It really wouldn't be too bad to make one up. The function just used some simple math to do the conversion. Although it's hard to say how many media types/sites it would truly work with.

RE: jQcal demo launched

Hi Jake,
Thanks so much for putting this online. It is awesome and it looks good in Safari. i have to dig into Drupal to get to know this though.
How are you going to display event details? The route i took is to use a tooltip (cluetip) with the following features: ajax, noncached and basically any html/css you want can be inserted in the tooltip. You can see an example of what I am working on at http://www.strikingconcepts.nl/development/kittiwake
each event is given its own ID which can be retrieved in the tooltip using ajax.

jQcal Demo Launched

I went ahead, dug out the code, reorganized my file structure a bit, and put up a working version....

Mind you this only deals with the jQuery and CSS to properly render the calendar. It looks perfect in Google Chrome for me, I haven't checked it again in other browsers.

The event data is being duplicated for a random set of days regardless of what month you are on just for test data.himerusdev.com/jqcal/

I do plan to reinvent this project.... I'd like to see it as multiple options. First, it could be a FULL front end for a Drupal powered site that was strictly for tracking events or content on a timeline. Second, it can operate as a small sidebar type calendar with a smaller feature set with an option to "go full screen" this "fancy" version, and have all the data/features...

I dont know, but I really enjoyed putting this together, and the code that is there could no doubt use a nice touchup after a year of further learning in jQuery & CSS coding.

JQcal

Hi Jake,
Thanks for the reply. I took a different starting point in my project which is to skip days that have no events. This leaves more space for days that have multiple events listed.
Your full screen approach looks very attractive and I hope you will succeed.

Good luck!
Thanks for the kind words...

I really appreciate the kind words regarding this introductory chapter on jQuery.

Part of me still wishes I had been able to go through with the Apress deal, and put together a comprehensive title on the subject.

As I get more and more back into the coding flow, I will be trying to put out more information and tutorials/guides on my two loves, Drupal and jQuery.

Late Response regarding jQcal

Geert,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this comment. jQcal was a project I sat aside a long time ago now. It is still something that I'd like to pick back up at some point, and integrate it into a Drupal module.

The basics behind the code that I did have written were simply the jQuery interface for the calendar. It was truly magical the way I saw it. It was a FULLY list based calendar, which without any javascript or styling rendered the calendar layout in a semantic unordered list for presentation on ANY media.

The real work I did complete was the CSS styling and jQuery involved in rendering a slick, full screen calendar that could adapt to multiple layouts and expand to fit many needs.

My ideas on using it in Drupal is where I really started digging into the content display on the calendar and how to render multiple events on a single day grid for the calendar. It really had it all, and was working in all browsers except for Internet Explorer Suck (6). My only downfall in design was for multi day events and how to render those properly using pure CSS. That will be one of the first things I work on when I can get it up and running again.

I don't currently have an online example, but will see what I can do to dig up the code, and find a place to stick it for reference.

Hi Jake,
Your calendar in July 2008 was well designed but now I do not see any reference to this project anymore. currently I am working on a project which needs a calendar and I want rto use the jdrawer and beautytips plugin. further development will be on a scrollable interface for the jdrawer
Would you please shine a little light on this by showing an example?

thanks
Geert
