What Are Blog Aggregators?

Blog aggregators, otherwise known as feed aggregators, are applications or softwares that collect headlines of any given site. As long as the requirements are being provided (e.g. site url), the said software should be able to list down the latest contents of the site.

Such aggregators are being used widely in the blogosphere. It keeps bloggers and readers up to date with what's new with the sites that they are following. With that, blogs gain valuable and authentic visitors.

If there's anything I have observed or learned with these aggregators all through out my one year of blogging, it's these things:

They seem to have been deemed important for every blog.
Can increase traffic.
Gain and develop fruitful relationships with readers.
Help bloggers with their writings.
Provide some earnings (e.g. Google Adsense).

There are a lot of competitive aggregators on the web so it wouldn't be a problem finding one. You would know the best according to the number of people who use it, and the benefits you would get.

I don't know if there's such a thing as a perfect aggregator, but I think it pays to know your needs and wants. Knowing those things can determine the perfect aggregator for you. So you may have to do some extra researching before actually using an aggregator. Remember, quantity doesn't directly equate to perfect. :)

The Nose Talk

What a weird, yet pleasant day this has been.

There were so many things that happened unexpectedly. Like I arrived too early for work, and when our boss didn't come. And when I never experienced mood swings from days past, yet I had my period today. It's all too weird, but interesting.

The most interesting part of my day was the notable sensitiveness of my nose all throughout the day. I smelled the meat my mom cooked early in the morning. The smell of the leaves around our home. The smell of my older brother when I used his pillow for the night. And finally, the sweet yet wonderful smell of my cologne on my hair. The amazing part was, I somehow smelled the combination of my cologne and the conditioner I used. Both weren't trying to overpower the other, and they actually smell good together.

Haha. Welcome to the Nose Talk, or Talk Cologne or Hair Scent Talk. If I should then indulge on perfumes, I would then have my very own Talk Perfume.

Another plunge on the strands of my hair and I'm done for it. I think I'm going to have a great sleep tonight. :)

Student of Fortune

I can't wait to try out this brand new site I found: Student of Fortune. It's a great site that is especially made for students just like me. The site is known to be as an online tutoring marketplace. Why a marketplace? Here's how Student of Fortune works:

As a STUDENT, I can post a question that's related to what I'm taking, or just anything that bothers me. The question will then be sent to all the TUTORS on Student of Fortune, and some of them will write a custom tutorial that will hopefully cater to my question. I then get a chance to pick a tutorial and if I find something good, I buy it. Through the tutorial, with a bit of hardwork on my side, I could possible ace all of my classes!

As a TUTOR, I can search for unanswered questions and write great tutorials about them. If the STUDENTS like the custom tutorials I made, they can buy it. I earn lots of money just by helping students to learn!

As a STUDENT and a TUTOR, I can tutor students about things that I'm good at, and at the same time, ask questions about things that I have difficulty on!

A great question I found on the site's FAQ is the issue about cheating. As what I've seen so far, some students attach their assignments for tutors to answer. I think some people may view it as cheating, but Student of Fortune simply gives a more direct answer to students' questions compared to great sites like Wikipedia. Student of Fortune is merely a source of information online, just like what libraries are offline. If the site was purely used for cheating, then that student is at a loss. Cheaters always lose, no matter how many times they get away from their crime. At the end of the day, what really matters is whether you have learned something or not, which does not necessarily reflect on your grades.

I actually intend to tutor and not ask questions just to try out the things that I have learned and make some money out of it. If you want to do the same thing, I suggest you visit Student of Fortune and see what the site has in store for you. :)

I'll Be Missing The Beach..

I'm working this summer and it means I'll be missing out on all of the summer fun..

It's not like I go to the beach every summer. But the possibility of going this year is extremely low. The Holy Week may be the best time to go there but I don't think my family has plans.

Pfft. This is so sad. I am supposed to enjoy and relax after passing all of my subjects. Looks like there's no time for me to relax this year.

I'll be stuck inside a mall 6 days a week for the entire summer. Doesn't sound fun but I have no other choice. Looks like I have to figure out what else to do before I actually get bored the entire summer:

Window shopping of sorts. It's great that our office is located inside a mall, so whenever we need to go out or even before reaching the office, I get a glimpse of all things inside the mall. What I find amusing so far is that I always pass by the pet shop whenever I need to go to the comfort room. I always glance on the dogs and if it's lunch time, go inside and see the fishes.
Listen to endless music. I finally have the chance to listen to my mp4 without feeling guilty. It is when I'm on my way to work and the traffic is almost making me late (which happened on my very first day). In fact, I have downloaded almost all of the songs of Lady Gaga. Wohoo!
Have endless chatter with some family members. As much as possible, I don't bring my OJT tasks at home so that I'll be able to spend a lot of my time with my family and of course, to be finally able to do some "heavy" chores. Hehe.
Endless movies and tv shows. Academics had to go first last month so I really had no time to watch the television. This time, it's going to be me and the tv on late nights.. :)

Those things may seem normal for you but they bring me happiness which may equate to the fun I would have if I were to go to a beach. Hehe.

Money Concerns

It has generally been difficult for my family lately as many changes have happened over the past few months. My sister just got married and she won't be able to fully support us anymore. My youngest brother has finally graduated and he'll be in high school on the next school year which has also meant that we'll be spending extra cash for his projects and other necessary things. I somewhat lost my job because this blog just lost some pagerank. The world is just a very harsh place, don't you agree?

Hopefully, if God permits, I can already work by 2010. I'm an incoming senior and I hope I only have one year to spend on school and finally be able to graduate. But before that happens, I also have to worry about extra things like tuition and school materials. And since I am a college student, I can get myself a student credit card that can help me go through my needed expenses.

If my parents do allow me to have one, I hope I can find a low interest credit card so I won't have to worry a lot.

Better yet, if you have any suggestions as to what I am supposed to do aside from getting a credit card, please let me know. Comments are much appreciated. :)

Finally Working For A Company

Like what Gem said, earning through blogging is already a job in itself but it's still far from what I know as work.

It was a struggle at first to find ourselves an OJT. Me and my friends were searching for companies earlier than usual, and believe it or not, we still ended up landing on a proper job weeks or less before the finals week.

I can't believed the number of companies I "turned down" and at first it was a very scary thing to do. At the back of my mind, I knew there was going to be a conflict since we were applying to as many companies as possible.

Firstly, I was accepted to do some SEO stuff. I was really excited since it was in line with my interest (blogging) but was far from what our teacher wanted us to be exposed to (programming). Then I had to turn that one down and was accepted in Globe. It was too good to be true to be accepted in a huge company like Globe. Unfortunately, our teacher did not approve of what seemed like clerical work. I was really down that time.

So I ended up searching every IT company in Cebu on the net and emailed each one of them my resume. Few of them replied, and the replies didn't help my already dampened spirit.

Luckily, I received a call from SM Informatics and then got accepted. It is a good thing to be working for an international company and we are very fortunate to have a great boss. I was never intimidated nor felt uncomfortable even from the first interview until now. The people there were friendly (the employees and not the students) and it was really great.

For the Holy Week, me and my friend Justine won't be going to the office until Saturday. The students are yet to finish their school year this week and we have to wait before we can finally settle on a single place where we can work all our assigned projects.

I had always wanted a real job two years ago and I can't believe I finally have one right now. Of course, wanting a job equates to earning some money. Hopefully, we do get some when we finish our tasks. :)

CHERRY CHERRY BOOM BOOM

I can't believe that I'm once again obsessing on an artist. And why not? When there are artists that are as fashionable and incredibly talented like Lady Gaga, you can never go wrong with them.

I first heard about her when I saw the video Just Dance. She looked far from the ones I look up to, considering the fact that she did look trashy in the video and the song did not prove yet how powerful and wonderful her voice really is..

It was when my classmates teased me that my new do made me look like Lady Gaga did I actually start looking for her videos on Youtube. Then I saw Poker Face..

It was by far the coolest song I have ever heard. But I was still in doubt of her singing prowess. Surely, those great tunes and voice were not perfectly hers as it sounded somewhat electronic.

But one can never hide their true capabilities. And what awed me the most were clips that showed her live performances:

There's no denying that Lady Gaga is the hottest artist right now! I personally think she is the best out there. Britney is now in the run for her money. Haha.

Her beats are too cool and I never get sick of hearing them. My new favorites include Love Game, Starstruck and Eh eh.

The Truth About Payday Loans

Any type of loan doesn't sound so good for most people. But why is it so? Loans actually help us make it through under certain circumstances, it's the people who apply for loans that makes the entire thing a bit dirty.

Most people nowadays apply for payday loans. But what does it actually entail?

Basically, it allows you to borrow money which then is paid by you on your next payday. That's why it is called payday. What's great about this kind of loan is that most companies are rather flexible about this one. You only have to make sure that you be able to pay for the money you borrowed!

So before you decide on applying for a payday loan, certain requirements must be met such as:

A proof that you indeed have a real job. Since you are supposed to pay on your next payday, then you must have a source of income (i.e. job).
Identification information is a must. Any ID will do, as long as it is legit/authentic.
You would need a bank account where the money will be sent to you by the company. It is also used for you to pay the company back.
Make sure your loan doesn't equate to or exceed your salary. Since there is such a thing as payday loan fee, it is a must that your salary is actually capable of covering everything. This one is a very important thing to remember so apply it at all times!

Those requirements may be a bit intimidating and may scare you away, but you'll never know when you are going to need some extra cash. No matter how hard you try to save up or be extra careful, accidents could happen and surely financial help would be needed. So never say no to payday loans because you'll never know when you'll need them.

I'm Back!

I'm back and fully functional. Hehe. I can't wait to relax and work at the same time! I will now work for a company as required in our Practicum.

It's now goodbye to carefree summers and hello to busy years forever! Looks like I'm getting old now.

My sister just got married last March 28. It was fun and exciting and it was the very first wedding ceremony I have ever been. I was the Maid of Honor and we had lots of pictures! Maybe I'll post some of them here.

As required in the internship, I'll be learning Visual Basic and I have to perfect my Java knowledge. Some serious coding will be done as we are required to create an online database, standalone software and a chat room of sorts.

So I'll be working both at home and in the office, so wish me luck! :)

Judgement Month

It's March! I've dreaded for this month to come. Lots and lots of projects and examinations plus one play we have to practice and present on March 20. How could I not be afraid for the days to finally be closer to the end of the semester?

As I finally "organize" and write things in my planner, it speaks nothing loudly and too obvious than this:

Oh God. Oh God. Oh God. I have to get busy! I have to prioritize my studies now. And I need to manage my time properly!

Oh sh*t. I've always sucked when it comes to time management and in prioritizing things. I can still remember the way tickle (http://tickle.com, the site has closed by the way) told me about never being too stressed. I always have the tendency to find relaxation amidst pressure and that takes care of everything. Such a positive way on how to recognize my laziness, no? :P

But seriously, I have to focus right now. And with that, I graciously announce to you all that I would have to be inactive in blogging for a couple of weeks. I just have to. I cannot take the risk of failing another subject. Failing one was too traumatizing.. :(

I'll be back most probably on April. I can't wait to post new things 'til then..

When The Wavy Strands Are Now Straightened..

Anyway, I never imagined myself to have my hair treated. It's one of those codes I have. You know, I'm not in favor of the bandwagon.

But under the circumstances I experienced last February 18, I had to have my hair straightened. It was my very first time to be so impulsive, or let's just say, my first time having things not go my way during this year.

The original plan was to only get a haircut, as I was already seeing a dozen of split ends on my hair tips. I have in fact googled for a perfect haircut, and I landed on Japanese sites that actually have some neat styles. But I didn't manage to at least print the pictures. I don't know what just happened. It just did.

My sister then suggested we go to a Korean hair salon, as she saw the haircuts that I wanted for myself. I have to admit, the one who cut my hair really looks hot (although Bryan insists that men inside hair salons are gay). He really has a great face and a nice pair of eyes. I was totally transfixed the moment I saw him.

Such fascination may have contributed to the trouble I was about to face. He gave me magazines where I can choose a haircut that I wanted, and I wasn't using my time at all. I went through the pages in a fast manner and didn't make an attempt to fully analyze the hair cuts that I saw. But I swear that I chose a haircut on the magazine that was totally different than what he made to my hair.

He "expertly" gathered my hair and cut chunks of it. He was then cutting my bangs too short, and I seem not to be able to complain. Truth is, I didn't want to talk to him because I can barely understand a word he uttered. He then ironed my hair and continued cutting. I was too late to realize that what he did with my hair was not going to complement its natural structure.

When we finally went outside the salon, I was in total astonishment. In just a matter of minutes, I was able to convince my sister that I should have my hair rebonded. I remembered my sister saying that I looked as if I was going to cry. Hahaha.

So anyway, the first few days were a struggle for me, as I had to prevent my hair from getting wet for the medicine to truly seep in. I also wasn't used to seeing my hair straight. I loved my wavy hair amidst its unruly behavior. I was really emotional about everything back then.

But now, I have somehow sucked up everything and was able to appreciate my new hair style. Come to think of it, there are some advantages too:

Goodbye frizz! Hello well behaved hair!
No more unwanted waves here and there.
I can let my hair be and still look approachable. lol
It somehow looks good on me, minus some angles that make me look fatter than I really am.

I can't help but compare. Straight hair also has it disadvantages:

I look better with wavy hair (provided that my hair isn't frizzy). I have a round face and straight hair doesn't complement my cheeks.
I'll be more prone to hair damage. Altering the natural structure of my hair can lead to unhealthy hair. I'll be expecting my hair to dry and abnormal falling.
With that, I have to spend more on hair products. Just to neutralize and counteract the bad effects of the chemicals, I have to care more about my hair.

Ugh. I didn't really ask for this. But since I already have this one, might as well enjoy it..

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

I have practically watched Taken three times just in two days. Haha.

I am the HBO, Star Movies (and the list goes on) type of girl so basically when my friend told me about this movie, I was so excited to see it for myself! And when I finally borrowed a copy from my friend, I watched it right away.

Taken is a 2008 French thriller/action film starring Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen, and Maggie Grace. It is based on a script by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, and directed by Pierre Morel. Neeson plays a retired CIA operative who sets about tracking down his teenage daughter after she is kidnapped by slave traders while traveling in Europe.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, then you should seriously get yourself a copy and view it straight away! It has got to be one of the best movies I've seen this year so far. It's one of those action movies that isn't too full of it's genre (or so I'd like to describe it). I am not a big fan of action films but this one somehow has a twist that will make viewers like me appreciate the film.

I am now a big fan of Liam Neeson. I wasn't very fond of him when I first saw him in Star Wars (and I don't like Star Wars too) but in Taken, he really pulled everything off. He wasn't so bad a retired person, as it was as if he was born with the skills he acquired when he was still a CIA operative. I just love his character, how strong he is, his resourcefulness, and the very witty side of him too. And like a cherry on an ice cream, his love and concern for his daughter is simply inspiring, which basically made the plot going.

Actually, when I reflected quite a bit about this film, it somehow made me realize that I should value what my parents, especially my father, say to me. After all, it's not for them, it's only for me and for my own well being. Young people like me tend to put the fun first, and would put aside the actual dangers that could possibly happen. But if I do meet Peter (Nicolas Giraud)..

Hmm. Haha! Anyway, he's also part of the film. He's the first evil guy who deceives young foreign girls and calls up the others to kidnap the women and sell them for prostitution. He doesn't really look good in this picture though. He doesn't have plenty pictures of in the Internet. But if you'll see the film, you'll understand why I mentioned him. Haha.

Of Friendship And Maturity

I value friendship as much as I value myself. Friendship is something I actually rarely give to someone. Although some would see me greet a healthy number of people from time to time, such number doesn't actually equate to the number of friends that I have.

Acquaintance or friendship. How do you actually know whether you are only an acquaintance or a real friend of someone? When do you know? Is there actually any way of realizing first how you stand in someone else's life before the relationship between the two of you goes on? I have been pondering these questions for years now. And it seems that I still don't know the answers. It's like, something huge first has to happen before I fully understand what I really am to someone.

Acquaintance and friendship. Is it possible that you become acquaintances first before jumping into real friendship? Is it possible to jump directly to being friends and eventually become mere acquaintances? How great are the chances for enemies to become friends? Is the percentage greater than from friends to mere acquaintances?

I sometimes wonder why I have so many questions when it comes to this. I think it must be because I basically grew up "alone". Alone in the sense that everything was always about me. In short, I was self-centered but not in a bad way. Self-centered because I somehow grew only seeing myself in my entire lifetime.

Come to think of it, I think my thoughts are normal. Nothing extraordinary, I suppose. But I can't seem to keep up with or understand people who spend most of their time with other people. I don't see myself spending all of my time with other people, but how do some people do it? Don't they see the value of solitude and its wonders? Not that I think people should be anti-social but I strongly believe that spending some time alone can help you live your life even better.

So with that, I guess maybe I get very serious when it comes to friendship because spending my time with other people doesn't really always happen which all the more makes me value friendship so much.

I'm now starting to understand why I get affected when my relationship with people fail or undergo some major difficulties. I don't have to actually state the obvious, but I'm going to say it anyway. Me and my friends (or they may only see me as their acquaintance, only time can tell) are not in good terms with some people who I thought were my friends. And for the couple of times I have tried to convince myself that everything will eventually go back to normal, it seems that it will take longer than I expect it.

I actually respect my friends. Although I make fun of them sometimes (especially when they get on my nerves, but it's always temporary), I always make it a point to respect and value them as individuals. First of all, I try not to be too negative about them (I am a pessimist) and I always give them the benefit of the doubt on any scenario. But this time, things are too complicated. What I don't understand is the sudden "outburst of perhaps hidden negative emotions" and the decision to disregard us as if we were never friends in the first place.

It's as if I never valued this one person. As if I secretly pulled her down and inhibited her from the things she deserved. As if I disregarded her during the times she needed me. As if I never valued her as a friend..

Strange it may seem, but bad things like losing some friends actually brings out the mature-ness in me. I strongly believe though that I am more mature than I'm supposed to be, but negative events remind me of how mature I really am.

I have now come to appreciate my maturity and the way it pulls me back up together and go on with life. I also appreciate the maturity of my true friends and for being able to share it with me. I am much happier right now, amidst the huge difference between me and my true friends. It's a wonder how we are able to survive with each other, amidst our different opinion on things and the different interests that we have. We may have lost some people, but at least we still have each other.

All I can hope for is that we learn and understand from the things that happen around us. As like I said, I value solitude, and there may be no assurance that we will remain friends forever, I hope that we learn from each other and apply what we've learned to friends that we have and will have.

On-The-Job Training (OJT) Blues

It's almost summer and since I am already a junior, I would have to spend my summer in a workplace and undergo an OJT.

To be quite honest, it is scary. Not as scary as I tried my luck applying as a call center agent. Handling calls and speaking in English is something that I can handle. But doing software programs for a certain company that I have to work for with my very limited knowledge on some programming languages and programming itself is very scary.

I do not know what is up with me. Most of the time, I am so unsure of my programming capabilities. It is already a big endeavor to have survived Computer Science this far and to only fail one subject (which by the way, I failed only because I was "late" in passing my final project. I could rant about this forever). It is a huge thing to have survived Computer Science and not shift to another course. I even won second place in one of the programming contests in our school. But what is up with me? Why am I not feeling confident about this?

No. I'm not guilty of any cheating or whatsoever. I am proud to have done all of my programs all by myself, with a little help of my friends along the way. I am also proud to have learned Java on my own (in less than two months). I am proud that I often figure out and make some neat algorithms. I love the times that I would be so stressed out doing some overtime on most of my programs (even if I am always hotheaded during the process, the result is the important part). It feels really good to instantly understand some of my teachers' lectures when some of my classmates are having a hard time doing so. Hehe.

If there's one thing that I think is the reason for all of this, is that I am never too confident on anything. Lack of self esteem and self confidence? Perhaps. But I'm working on both of them and so far so good.. Another factor would be my lack of self discipline. This one I cannot deny for I always tend to procrastinate and combine work and play all the time. But I cannot also deny the fact that I am also working on it. And in fact, I've done quite well as of this moment. I am able to juggle family, friends, hobbies, school and blogging (lately I've been slacking off. school's on top of my list).

So what is it? Maybe it's the fact that I have already come to the point that I must work. And working for me is always associated to being grown up. I am finally almost part of the working class, which may be good because I get to earn money, but at the same time a bit disappointing because I have to make myself mature enough to handle the pressure and the stress.

So grow up, blanne. Grow UP.

My PR Went To Zero!

To be honest, I was a bit suprised. Finally, my negligence of my blog resulted to my loss of pagerank. But I was also surprised because it took this long before Google penalized me. Haha.

So, as a way to calm myself down, and at the same time see the light beyond this downfall, I'll list the benefits or whatever that comes good from having a pagerank of 3 to 0:

I won't have to write opportunities that I actually cannot relate to. Since I'll be receiving less opportunities now, the lesser the chances I would have to write about things that are alien to me.
I can finally do more updates for my other blog. I have another blog that isn't live yet, for the reason that I want it to reflect what I have learned all through out the last year. I also like my other blog to generate some extra income for me, but in a much "cleaner" way. I plan to make the best out of Adsense and other advertising programs and paid reviews are a big no no!
Hit-or-Miss will finally be more about me. This though, I'm still not sure of. As what I have remembered, I have long wanted to leave Hit-or-Miss even before it got a PR of 3. It was also the time when I had the urge to do blogging properly. What only held me back was when Hit-or-Miss received a PR of 3, and when opportunities started rolling in..
Have more time for my studies? Hmm. NO! Haha. I'd still be spending my time on updating my other blog. But it's good to know that I'll finally be doing a blog with a single niche. It's a whole new world for me, and I like it!
More blog hopping? Perhaps! I'll be going to blogs that are related to my other blog for inspiration.. I love to learn new ideas and tips that I could possibly research more about and talk about it on my other blog.
More time for myself. YES! Basically, my other blog still revolves around me, but not in the way that Hit-or-Miss is.. I think it's safe to say that my other blog talks about girl issues.. What kind of issues? I just can't tell it yet. Hehe..
A chance to start anew. There is no denying that Hit-or-Miss isn't a good blog. After all, I made this blog for the sake of earning online. But along the earning, was a new discovery that I loved to write and in effect, liked blogging as well. I admit that I am ashamed of my blog. And now that it won't serve that much purpose to me anymore, it has given me a chance to see blogging the way that it should be seen. And the chance to blog the way blogging should be. :)

But there are also the disadvantages of losing PR. The most obvious one is having lesser opportunities. And the effects would be:

I can't buy food for my family anymore. I buy some food to fill our fridge twice in a month. My parents don't have jobs anymore. And although two of my siblings are already working, they are the ones who spend for the bills and the tuition for me and my two younger brothers.
I can't give my brother allowance anymore. Ever since I received the money I earned online, I pretty much shouldered my brother's daily allowance and mine too.
I can't give my parents extra money. Sometimes, without them telling it straight to my face, I can feel the times when my parents need extra money for some reason. And it was great to provide them the money they needed. Trust me, it really does.
I can't spend for stuff that I want anymore. The clothes, beauty products, food and everything else. It's great not to ask for money from my parents just to buy the things I truly need and want.

But to be honest, I am very disappointed. But such disappointment most of the time does not last long. I have this tendency to move on as quick as I can. What's done is done. Nothing good will happen if I go to a corner and think about what just happened. And I hope that's what I'm going to do this time..

Okay. I know I've had problems with JS-Kit and decided to replace it with Disqus. So far, so good. And if there's one thing I don't like about Disqus, it is that the top commenters widget doesn't automatically update itself.

Music is one of the things that I cannot live without. And at times when I get too stressed and busy with school, music is one of the many things that help me make it through.

These past few days, I always listen to Beyonce's Halo. I don't know. I just really find the song very comforting and relaxing. It's one of those songs that I never easily get tired off. I always keep on singing the song at home! Hehehe.

Below is the video of Halo. One of the many reasons I also like the music video is that the guy is HOT! Haha. He almost looks like P. Diddy but he isn't P. Diddy. That was my first impression. But goodness, his eyes! He has the most gorgeous pair of eyes I have ever seen. Hehehe.
