Up To 8 Migrants Die Everyday Trying To Escape Persecution & Find A Better Life

Recent studies have highlighted the dangers that migrants face when crossing the borders.
Figures show that this year alone there have been 4,077 that died this year.
Europe is the favoured route for migrants and unfortunately this route has had the highest death tolls at well over 22,000 people.

The international Organisation For Migration has conducted a study and collated statistics showing that the total number of deaths worldwide stands at 40,000.

This is a problem that is by no means going to go away quickly. 10% of the overall 40,000 deaths occurred this year, meaning that the problem is escalating and something clearly needs to be done to address the issue.

The problem is the way migrants are viewed in the developed world, they often become part of wider political controversy over migration statistics or detained without any clear indication of when they will released.

For the past 14 years an average of 8 migrants have died EVERY DAY trying to find better prospects or avoid the persecution they face in their native country.
Many organisations aim to highlight the awareness of this however more needs to be done to tackle the ACTUAL problem.

If the death toll wasnt enough, the migrants face further persecution on arrival, often being turnt back by coastguards or military vessel's only to face the same danger that they risked to escape; a regular occurrence for migrants crossing waters into Australia.

The failure to comprehensively document and investigate deaths of asylum-seekers is a failure on humanity and human rights. Counting the dead and ackowledging their passing should be of high importance and it is a failure that needs to be addressesd.

The issue here which the UN high commissioner touched on earlier in the month, is that European countries need to provide assistance to those who have been victims
of smuggling and risked their lives to cross the Mediterranean Sea. All governments need to strengthen their rescue operations insead of treating these migrants like animals or rejecting them.

Many of these people have genuine reasons for fleeing their countries and the developed world seem to stereotype all migrants as benefit opportunists which has given the wider society a lack of understanding of their real situations and has thus desensetised the developed world's view of migrants crossing the dangerous sea's into their country's.

Many migrants escape from war torn countries such as Eritrea, Syria and Mali, and many from North Africa or Libya.

The journey to reach the coasts of Europe could take up to four
days depending on sea, boat and weather conditions.
After traveling in unseaworthy and overcrowded dinghies, packed into a
few metres of space, without food, water or life jackets, their journey
often ends in tragedies. This needs to stop and we ACTION NOW!...

Labour Plans To Scrap Net Migration

Labour's Yvette Cooper has made a statement on the net migration figures today, saying that if they are elected, they will scrap the net migration figure altogether.

Theresa May, under the Tories, pledged to reduce net migration to 100,000 by next year, however the figure currently stands at 243,000 and the Tories have already admnitted that reaching the figure is very unlikely.

Yvette Cooper said the adoption of the target had completely distorted the
government’s policy on immigration. It has led to a squeeze particularly
on overseas student numbers and on family migration in an attempt to
reduce the numbers.

Many feel that one of the major problems with the target was that it
did not distinguish between different kinds of migrants and counted
overseas students, low-skilled migrants and people seeking asylum as if
they were all the same.

She then went on to explain, “What you should instead have is a series of different controls and targets for different kinds of immigration.”

How do you feel about this, good news or bad?

Migrants Drown Trying To Cross The Mediterranean

Up to 500 migrants are feared to be dead after their boat was sunk deliberately.
The boat was bound for Malta after leaving Egypt and was arranged by people traffickers whom had been paid to transport the people out of the country.

The traffickers become enraged when the migrants – most of whom were
Palestinian, Egyptian, Sudanese and Libyan – refused to transfer to a
small boat which appeared unseaworthy, and chose to instead ram the
migrants' vessel with their craft.

10 people survived and gave testimony to The International Organisation For Migration.
Amongst the 10 was a 2 year old baby.

Some of the migrants hung on to floating objects for up to three days, but
many drowned when a change in the weather brought strong winds and high
waves.

Everyday there seems to be more people risking their lives in this way as huge numbers of people are attempting to flee from Africa to Europe, in part due to the continued violent chaos in Libya and Syria.

How do you feel about this?

8% rise in the number of Romanians & Bulgarians working in Britain - still well short of some predictions

The number of
Romanians and Bulgarians working in Britain rose by 8% in the second quarter of
this year, according to the Office for National Statistics, this is still well
short of some predictions after border controls were fully lifted in January. It
was thought that hundreds and thousands will flock to the UK once the last of
the seven-year transitional controls were lifted on the new EU members on 1
January but the number initially fell.

Atul Hatwal,
director of Migration Matters Trust said, "These figures expose the scale
of scaremongering by Nigel Farage and Ukip over Romanian and Bulgarian
migration, Farage predicted there would be 5,000 a week arriving for several
years. Today's government statistics show that in the first six months the
total rise in the numbers of Romanian and Bulgarian nationals was just 7,000. By
the end of June, according to Ukip's forecast on Romanian and Bulgarian
migration, the number should have been 130,000 – an overestimate of almost 20
times."

Andrew Green,
chairman of Migration Watch UK, claimed that the figures were in line with its
predictions. "Once dependants are factored in it is likely that the
increase in population over the whole year 2014 will be between 30,000 and
70,000 as we predicted," he said. "Our central estimate of 50,000
remains a very likely outcome."

House Of Congress Passes Republican Measures On Child-Migrant Crisis.

Republicans of the House of Congress have managed to put the divisions separating the parties aside to put two measures to pass, to target the child-migrant surge in the U.S.

These measures would effectively provide emergency funding to aid with the crisis the U.S.-Mexico border faces. It would speed up the deportation process indefinately and would repeal President Barack Obama's authority in deciding to deport illegal immigrants back to Mexico.

The measures however are unlikely to become
law, as within the White House, most Democrats actively, and
strongly, oppose the proposals.

The voting process then led to a do-over, which amounted to a pivitol victory for a new GOP leadership team, and party Republicans with evidence that they attempted to
address the border issue in the U.S

With the House, however, unable to negotiate an agreement with the Senate over how to riposte to Obama's request to take on the developing crisis, the President vowed that he would have to respond in his own way.
"I'm going to have to act alone" Obama stated, the federal resources have run up dry due to the lack of legislation in this part. Obama was quoted on saying "We've run out of money".

President Obama also went on to say that the Republican party isn't truly looking to aid in the crisis against immigration but rather to "check a box before they leave town for a month" This brings up the question of whether the bill to aid the U.S. in its border-immigration control will really come to fruition.

Do you think that this is a bill that will truly pass, and aid the immigration crisis? Let us know your views.
