Whereas the screen of a laptop or ipod is very hard to use outdoors, with a Kindle it is fine even on a bright day.

Like many people most of the documents I read are either PDF or Word format. There is built-in support for PDF but in practice it does not give a comfortable reading experience. You can of course rotate the screen to give maximum width, but in most PDFs I read, from academic journals, the font size is too small. You can zoom to part of the screen but then navigation is difficult. Also, a minor point, there is a boundary area between each PDF page that needs an extra scroll click forward.

The answer would be to flow the PDF text into a Kindle-style document, but it would only be viable if easy to do, and ideally doable in batches.

Beginnings

New academic new, new venture!
