Sleep deprivation has been a buzzword for a couple of years already. Ever since the first mention of the connection between sleep and mortality, a lot of researches have been released trying to find out the reasons for lack of sleep, its negative effects and its solutions. Natural sleep treatment, sleeping pills and even hypnotism have all been identified as the solution to sleep but are these really necessary?

Despite the many claims of people nowadays not getting enough sleep, there are several studies which say that people, particularly Americans, get to have at least 8 hours of sleep at night. New studies which are based on telephone surveys and time use diaries collected by the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics and US Census Bureau including the time use diaries collected by the researchers in the University of Michigan show that Americans sleep more nowadays compared to 40 years ago. This finding has a big effect in today’s world – this means that sleep-inducing remedies are no longer needed!

Researchers have been saying – you need 8 hours a day to function properly. But several new researches say that 3 hours a day can give you an alert mind, 4 hours will give you excellent work and 6 hours can get you sleepy again. Too many times we wake up and yet we are still sleepy, hence the term oversleeping. You sleep 8 hours a day and you will surely be lethargic.
As a matter of fact, more and more people today actually hate sleeping. Some of them feel that it is a complete waste of time. Imagine what you can do in 8 hours! If you are in the IT industry or you’re a college student, then you surely realize just how important those 8 hours of sleep can translate to 8 hours more spent for studying or working. A lot of people nowadays are doing all nighters and several of them have started sharing their secrets on the web. As such, this article is a compilation of the top 10 alternatives of sleep shared by several people on the web .

1 . The Da Vinci Sleep

Several famous people subscribe to this pattern – Leonardo da Vinci, Lord Byron, Steve Fossett and Ellen McArthur are just some of them. Da Vinci Sleep, also known as polyphasic sleep, greatly reduces a person’s time of sleep from 6 to 8 hours to not more than 5 hours a day. This sleeping pattern is also called the “sleep of genius”.

Read more about the Da Vinci sleep at Wiki .

2 . The Uberman Sleep Cycle.
This is a variation of the Da Vinci sleep which encourages more waking hours though a strict sleep schedule. This sleep pattern distributes 6 20 to 25 minute naps during the 24 hour period. This means you can recover as much as 22 hours of your day which you can use for more productive work

3 . Go clubbing.

Of course, this is one of the most common late night alternatives for sleep. We all know how much energy you can release while dancing and drinking. If you just don’t want to sleep, going to clubs and bars will certainly keep you awake until the wee hours of the morning.

4 . Eat snacks.

Based on personal experience, eating while working can help keep your mind keen, especially when you are doing knowledge work. Eating sugary foods will keep you awake but it won’t make you productive in the same way that eating fruits would. Don’t settle for that vending machine at the office, best to stand up and look for healthy alternatives. And besides, walking can also help keep you awake and alert.
You would also want to limit your caffeine intake. Okay, I know a lot of people feel that drinking coffee and smoking can help keep you awake but unfortunately, if you ingest too much, you’re going to have a difficult time concentrating. What’s the use of staying up if you can’t do what you have to do?

5 . Play music.

If you are pulling an all-nighter, music is the best way to counteract fatigue. Of course you need to choose songs which are upbeat and energetic which are also conducive to the kind of environment you’d like to create. Some people find it hard to concentrate with heavy metal music blaring on the background so you better choose your songs carefully.

6 . Create a to-do list.

People say – planning will keep you awake. And since you don’t want to fall asleep because of the number of things you need to do, why don’t you make better use of your time by organizing it?

7 . Meditate.

Some people think that meditating is for a good night’s sleep. This is true when done in the morning, but if done at night, meditation will tend to keep you awake longer. This will also help energize you.

8 . Play Video Games

Playing video games is something that people belonging to any age group are fascinated by . If you’re a gaming freak then this is definitely something you’d love to do .

9 . Watching a feel good movie.

Feeling good will make your brain hyperactive – I know because it happens to me all the time. The first time I discovered this alternative was when I watched My Bestfriend’s wedding at night and I ended up imagining the scenes with me in the lead role.

10 . Answer memes.

I receive a lot of memes from my friends’ bulletins and these keeps me awake at night. Not only are they entertaining, most of them also make me think hard for witty answers. It is also a popular past time for those who are engaged with internet work.

Skin is one of the main parts of our body. It acts as protective cover for all internal organs. So it’s important to protect the skin from various damages. One way of protecting our skin is by using bath soaps and lotions. Nowadays there are many bath lotions available in the market. You can choose them depending upon your skin type whether it is oily, dry or normal. Some milk bath skin lotions are also available in the market.
How to select the correct lotion for skin?
To get good shining skin everyone should be aware of their skin type and they must get the correct lotion which suits for their skin. The main use of the body lotions are they help in nurturing the skin. These bath lotions when used after taking bath will give good results. For dry skin after bath, the essential oils are washed out. Bath lotions replace these oils and help to maintain the skin with moisture.
How does toner work on skin? Do they have any side effects?
Toners help in removing dirt, makeup and some amount of unwanted oil on skin. More number of people does not know about toners, and have a wrong opinion that they are hazardous to our health. But dermatologists say that there is no wrong in using toner which acts as cleanser on the skin.
In what way sun screens prevent skin from damage?
Those who are conscious about their skin may need the help of sunscreen lotions. Sunscreen lotions prevent our skin from wrinkle. Sunscreens can be used not only in summer season but also in other seasons. The usage of sunscreens with moisturizers in nights is not recommended as they make the skin worse. A good sunscreen must contain active ingredients such as titanium oxide or zinc oxide.
What is waxing? What role does it play in skin care?
The removal of unwanted hair which is usually chosen by women is known as waxing. It is harsh process so women who is having sensitive skin even if they like it they are scared to waxing. Waxing may also cause burns, irritation if the skin is sensitive. To avoid this dangerous effects waxing must be tried in small area of skin or else at the less sensitive part of skin (on legs). After waxing, the skin should not be exposed to sun light or any other skin creams or lotions.
Tips To Maintain Good Skin
Using soap bars frequently causes dryness in skin which results in dry skin. Too much of cleansers are not good for skin. After using cleansers we should not wash our face with water. Washing skin with hot or cold water is not recommended.

Normal Skin:

Normal skin is in general smooth, soft form and has an even texture. The surface is very smooth. It is clean with no greasy patches or flaky regions. It is a symbol of good health, good blood circulation and probably free from any infection. Women may get pimples during menstruation due to increased hormonal activity. However it is not a problem for others. This kind of skin yet requires care. When neglected it will mark ageing and winkles all over.

Athlete’s foot is a very common infection which is caused by Tinea Fungus. This disease is also called as Tineapedia. It is a common fungal infection that affects most of us. We may get such fungal infection from any community centers, bathrooms or fitness centers. It generally affects the spaces between the toes, yet can spread to toenails, soles and sides of the feet. They can respond the drugs and treatment is easier. It can also be called as ringworm of the foot and dermatoghytosis.

Prevention and care are required as follow:

Washing feet everyday is a must. Spaces of toes should be dried up and the socks should be clean with no moisture. Avoid walking in barefoot in common areas and take care of your things while using locker rooms. Also wear flip-flop in community showers. Antifungal creams purchased can help. Tropical lotions as Tolnaftate lotion can be of some use. There are a few other related infections which are the ringworm of the body (tinea corporis); which looks real, scaly rings or circles of rash on the layer of your skin. Jock itch or tinea cruris is another one. This is an infection on the genitals, inner thighs and buttocks. Ringworm of the scalp or tinea capitis affects children mostly. It looks with red, itchy patches on the scalp leaving intermittent patches everywhere and looks ugly.

There are some symptoms associated with the athlete’s foot; a few of them confirm that you may possess this disorder; Itching, burning and stinging between the toes and the same sensation found on the soles of the feet. Itching blisters and the skin with cracking and peeling sensation in between toes will be a reaction. There would be excessive dryness of the skin on the bottoms or sides of the feet and the nails would be thick, ragged, discolored or would tend to leave the flush under.

Causes:

A group of fungi called dermatophytes causes this disease. These organisms through extending will infect the outer layer of the skin; the basal layer produces more skin cells and when they push through the surface the skin becomes thick. The more the fungal is produced the more the skin will get scales. The fungus is carried on through the fragments of skin and other pesticides which rugs, shoes, clothes, mats and other things which we cannot leave out in our daily life,. Plastic shoes will provide more cushion for this. Sometimes it may be from pets and the most common situation we get from community/group centers.

Consultation:

Your doctor may advise you medication on skin, oral or otherwise and the dosage pattern, which is important because when you take antifungal drugs it may cause recursion.

Obesity, Diabetes and heart diseases are becoming common amongst people around the world in the past 20 years .
British Scientists have recently Identified a fat gene that makes people prone to obesity , diabetes and heart attack .
A Genetic Variant that raises the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart diseases is more common in Indians than Britons, found in an international study of 30,000 people in Britain .
Researchers found culprit variants in DNA near a gene already figured in the molecular ballet that causes obesity .
The Gene called MC4R orchestrates appetite and energy expenditure .
Researchers from Oxford University and The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge link another gene sequence close to MC4R with obesity .
Now Question arises if the tendency of obesity , diabetes and heart diseases can be controlled?
The answer is Yes , it can be controlled taking some precautionery measures that is by changing our lifestyle , by eating healthy and excercising more . It is a well established fact that lifestyle and behavior alters gene expressions .
Most probably , The next question thats in your mind is How should the life style be changed to alter the gene effect which causes obesity, diabete and heart diseases?
To control the gene effect and improve our health , one should follow the following tips :

- Drink Plenty of water . Atleast 8 Glass of water per day .
- Exercise regularly , preferable in morning before sunrises and Yoga .
- Try to eat more raw fruits and vegetables instead of cooked food .
- Among Cooked food try to avoid the three whites i.e refined white flour , sugar and Rice .
- Junk Food is the choice of majority in fast life style but try to avoid it . It can be done slowly .
- Instead of eating 2 or 3 Big meals , try to eat 5-6 small meals .
