INTERESTING THINGS YOU CAN DO IN NOVEMBER

A very interesting and inspiring November article:

"CELEBRATE AVIATION HISTORY MONTH IN NOVEMBER... HOLD A DRAWING FOR AN AIRPLANE RIDE OVER YOUR SCHOOL.

1 Cliche Contest. In honor of National Cliche Day, November 3, sponsor a rap contest with a prize for the rapper who most cleverly incorporates cliches into a rap.

2 Bird's Eye View. Celebrate Aviation History Month in November by posting aerial shots of your school and community on the bulletin board and holding a drawing for an airplane ride over your school at lunch provided by a local private pilot.

3 When I Grow Up. Sponsor a "What I want to be when I grow up" essay contest as part of National Kid's Goal Setting Week, November 3-7. Invite students to attend a goal-setting workshop after school to learn how to set goals and why it is important to do so.

4 Sponsor 8 Family. Work with your county family services office or school counselors to provide a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for a family in need. Collect items such as green beans, rolls, sweet potatoes, cranberries, pumpkin, and so forth, along with cash donations that can be used to buy a gift certificate to a local grocery store for the perishable items.

5 Hug 8 Veteran. In honor of National Hug a Veteran Week, November 10-16, invite veterans as guest speakers for a brown-bag lunch series to talk to students about their experiences. Present each veteran with a thank-you card accompanied by Hershey's Hugs candies.

6 Recycled Fashions. Sponsor a recycled fashion show for America Recycles Day, November 15, in which students model thrift shop fashions from past eras. Or, create new fashions from recycled plastic materials for a "From Plastic to Fantastic" fashion show.

7 Education Is the Key. Create signs in the shape of giant keys to hang around school with the slogan "Education unlocks many doors" during American Education Week, November 16-22. Sponsor a Student/Teacher Turnaround Day where students come to school dressed as teachers and teachers come dressed as students. Eerie Eyeballs

Yields approximately 9 dozen bite-sized eyeballs

3 oz lemon gelatin (can be sugar-free)
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
1 cup pineapple juice
8 oz cream cheese (can be lowfat/Neufchatel)
1 cup mayonnaise (can be fat-free)

Dissolve lemon gelatin in 1 cup water in double boiler, add marshmallows and stir to melt. Remove from heat. Add pineapple juice and cream cheese. Beat until well blended. Cool slightly. Fold in mayo. If you have a truffle candy mold or round ice cube trays, pour the mixture in the molds and leave to set in the fridge. OCTOBER 1ST - WORLD VEGETARIAN DAY

Before starting with Halloween, let's not forget about one of the most important holidays of October, World Vegetarian Day.

This celebration is always held on October 1st, and it encourages people to eat vegetables and fruits, and forget for a day about meat. This holiday was first observed in1977 and brought together people from all over the world, spreading awareness to the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.

The vegetarian path was chosen either for the healty life it offers, or from the conviction that animals should not be killed.

Therefore, World Vegetarian Day promotes the principles of a healty life and environment, and moreover, joy and compassion for animals.

So as the t-shirt says: "Make a cow happy, Go Vegetarian"

Beyond all the strange holidays of October, there is Halloween, the most expected event of the year. Thousands and thousands of people decorate their homes, buy costumes and sweets, organize scary and exciting parties. This is the best time to let your imagination go wild, time to be creative.

Everyone starts to think about trick-or-treating, witches and ghosts, waiting anxiously to share with their family and friends unforgettable moments, spooky costumes and newest and strangest Halloween recipes.
