Gauranga Meditation</title><description>Yoga Can Help Relieve Back Pain&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Regular yoga practice will help  to relieve the stress and tension that sometimes cause mild back pain,  and in fact, studies have shown that yoga is the number one most  effective exercise for relieving back pain. However, not all yoga poses  relieve back pain, and some can in fact aggravate existing pain, so it  is important to know which poses are helpful.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is always best  to do these yoga exercises under the supervision of a certified yoga  instructor, and if you encounter any problems with these poses, always  consult an expert.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just a couple of sessions with a yoga  instructor can help, an instructor will help you with your form and  posture during poses.  Here is one of the best yoga poses for relieving  back pain. If it hurts your back to have your knees turned outward, do  this pose with knees bent, feet flat on the floor. Breathe in and out  slowly and deeply for a few minutes while allowing any tension to leave  the body. To further relax the body and the mind you could also add a  Meditation to your outward breath. For instance the mantra Gauranga  which is a non-material spiritually uplifting sound which brings peace  to the heart and soothes the emotions.  It's very simple process.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1.    While in Corpse pose INHALE through the nostrils while focusing on  the Gauranga meditation. As you EXHALE say outloud Gauranga for the full  extention of the outward breath. I could feel myself being more able to relax. Any tension from the day could be melted away with ease. My mind started becoming clearer and i could more effectively see and deal with the stressful situations that inevitably arise in our lives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Because of this, stress levels naturally decrease. As stress levels decrease, all sorts of positive benifits can manifest in the body. I also noticed my relationships with people around me improving. I was finding myself better able to relate to others in a kind and understanding way, and experiencing a genuine care for their wellbeing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Truly, every aspect of my life has improved. All the details that we struggle with are included in the benefits of this meditation practice. All that i needed to do was make the practice of holistic yoga meditation a part of my day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It could very easily sound like one of those too good to be true kinds of things. But the beauty of it is there is nothing to loose. It is more than worth a few hours of your time to attend a couple of the classes and learn what it is all about. I was just as uncertian about things as before i left and had less money! Practise sarvasana at the end of yoga also. You can practise while standing but I think it's best practised lying on your mat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you like you could place a folded blanket or a bolster under the spine, from sacrum up and a block or a thin pillow under the head.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Relax down into your mat. Let your feet be floppy.&lt;br /&gt;Bring your hands to your lower belly touching the tips of the thumbs together and touching the index fingers together around the belly button.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Breathing into the lower belly, feel the fingers seperating with the breath X 3 breaths.&lt;br /&gt;Next, bring opposite hands to opposite sides of your lower rib cage, direct your breath to your hands, feel the lower ribs rising and expanding with the breath X 3 breaths.&lt;br /&gt;Next, move the hands up to the upper ribs and tuck your hands into you arm pits, direct your breath to your hands, feel the upper ribs rising and expanding with the breath X 3 breaths.&lt;br /&gt;Lastly, bring your hands up to your collar bones. You can keep your hands crossed, just check to make sure you are not rounding your shoulders, stay open and broad across the chest. Direct your breath to your hands and feel the collar bones gently rising as the breath fills the top part of the lungs and relaxing on the exhale.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, combine all of these areas into one full smooth inhale and exhale.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As you inhale think about filling a jug up with water, let the breath fill from the bottom of the lungs upwards.  As you exhale visualise emptying the jug from the top all the way to the bottom. Stand with both feet together, or with your feet hip distance apart&lt;br /&gt;2.  Lift and gently stretch the toes, spread them wide and lower softly to the ground&lt;br /&gt;3.  Now we all know what a tripod is right! It's a 3 legged piece of equipment used for stablizing and supporting a camera. We are going to use this same principle to help us achieve a strong supportive base in mountain pose&lt;br /&gt;4.  Lets begin by pressing the big toes, the little toes and the heels firmly into the ground. This forms the tripod, the strong base for mountain pose&lt;br /&gt;5.  Alright so now we are going to gently rock back and forth—heels to toes, heels to toes&lt;br /&gt;6.  Come back to starting position, visualise your tripod and adjust your feet so that your weight is evenly distributed thru both feet&lt;br /&gt;7.  Lift the inside arches and press the outsides of the feet into the floor&lt;br /&gt;8.  Come back to starting position, visualise your tripod and have your weight evenly distributed thru both feet&lt;br /&gt;9.  Become familiar with how that feels&lt;br /&gt;10.  Lift the 3 arches, the inside arches, the outside arches and the arches across the broad part of your feet&lt;br /&gt;11.  To make sure we are not dropping thru the inside arches, activate the adductor muscles, this automatically lifts the inside arches&lt;br /&gt;12.  Moving up the legs to the knees, gently lift the knees by activating the thigh muscles or quads&lt;br /&gt;13.  Now focusing on lifting the front of the hips, gently lower the tail bone&lt;br /&gt;14.  An easy way to achieve the best position is to first of all place one hand on our belly just below the belly button and the other on the lower back. Visualise having tail feathers and sticking out those tail feathers – next we want to visualise a dog with it's tail between it's legs and imitate by tucking the pelvis under. The best position is somewhere in between those two extremes.  Experiment and feel what's most comfortable for you&lt;br /&gt;15.  Next, lengthening the spine and lifting up thru the sternum. Broadening thru the lungs and rib cage. Be aware that we don't want the ribs to stick out, so draw them back towards the spine. Soften and lower the shoulders&lt;br /&gt;16. Rotate thru the shoulders, moving the arms away from the body palms facing forward. Extend and lengthen the fingers. Relax the arms bring them back to your sides with the thumbs facing forward. Keep the shoulders soft. Think about the shoulder blades releasing downwards towards your waist&lt;br /&gt;17. Gently lengthen the back of the neck, and lower the chin down to a neutral postition, with the chin relaxed&lt;br /&gt;18. Draw up through the crown of the head, imagine a string running up thru your spine and out the top of your head, softly lengthening and opening up the body growing tall&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Benefits:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Improves posture, reduces flat feet, relaxing, helps fallen arches, improves circulation, improves lung capacity&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Variations:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1.  Can be done with eyes closed for a more focused inward experience and to improve balance&lt;br /&gt;2.  Can raise the arms chest height interlock fingers and raise arms over head pressing palms towards the ceiling.&lt;br /&gt;3.  Bring arms behind, bend at the elbow, opposite hand on opposite elbow. Switch and hold for same amount of breaths&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Variations and Modifications&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1.  Check your alignment against a wall. In a couple of weeks, the tops will emerge through the straw. As they grow, keep topping them up with the enriched straw blend, making sure the young potatoes don't get exposed to sunlight. When the plants have died off and gone dry and brown, it is time to pull back the mulched straw to reveal an abundant crop of large healthy potatoes. Or just cover the earth with a thick layer of old newspapers, cardboard or both to prevent weed growth from occurring.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Note: Using newspapers may mean your crop is not truly organic.  (Because of the ink). Again, the choice is yours, or just use a thicker layer of straw instead.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Spread a layer of composted material over the top of the newspaper or straw. Old dry lawn clippings or more straw can be used. Sprinkle a layer of worm castings in if you have some on hand. Place your potatoes or pieces of potatoes with eyes, directly onto the thick straw padding. Use crop straw or another straw which is cheap and readily available. Pull it apart and shake over the potatoes to protect them from light. If you allow the potatoes to get too dry, then add a lot of water, then let them dry again, you will end up with disfigured potatoes that look lumpy and will have a very poor texture when cooked. Remember to keep them watered consistently.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first potatoes will be ready to harvest in around two months. If the plants start to flower, it's time to start harvesting. Some varieties won't make flowers at all, so don't count on this to happen, but if you do see flowers, you know it's definitely time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To harvest potatoes, simply dig around in the soil with your hands, feeling the size of each potato you encounter. If it is the size you want, pull it up. Otherwise, leave it alone and it will continue to grow. You can also use very large pots or buckets, but garbage cans and storage tubs can be covered to store the soil in for the next year. Simply take your plastic garbage can or tub and drill several holes in the bottom for drainage. Then fill the container about one third full with your potting soil mix.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Put your potato sprouts on top of the soil, spaced approximately 6 inches apart, and at least 4 inches away from the sides of the container. Then cover the sprouts with about two inches of potting soil. When the plants reach about 6 inches in height, add another two or three inches of potting mix, covering the lower leaves of the plants. Every time the plants reach a height of six inches above the soil, add another two to three inches of soil. Potatoes do not have seeds. They are actually specially grown miniature tubers that have been grown in controlled conditions to minimize the chance of disease. You should try to buy certified disease-free seed potatoes when possible.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Seed potatoes should be presprouted. Simply place the seed potatoes in a shallow tray and put the tray into a warm, sunny spot. Then spray them with some water or liquid seaweed. It should be about two weeks before sprouts form. When they are about an inch tall, you can plant them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In order to get the best yield from your potato plants, you need to make sure that the stems grow to a good length. Hilling is traditionally used to aid in elongating the stems. In hilling, you plant your potato sprouts in a trench, gradually filling the trench with more soil as the stems grow. Growing your standard russet potatoes or giant baking potatoes is probably going to be a waste of space, although it might be fun. You've no doubt seen these sprouts on potatoes that have been sitting for too long in your cupboards. The eyes shoot out sprouts, and when you plant these sprouts, you can grow potatoes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is NOT recommended that you do this, however. Potatoes that are found in supermarkets are typically treated with chemicals to inhibit sprouting. They do not typically grow very well when planted, and might poison the soil if you try to grow something else in it later. It is very simple to do and the benefits can be felt instantly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How To:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;ul style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;On your yoga mat, lie down on your back. Knees bent with feet flat on your mat.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt; As you exhale, gently firm your belly muscles and bring your feet up off your mat hugging your knees to your chest.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt; Inhale softly and on the next exhale, gently draw the legs closer to the chest.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt; On the next inhale let them relax and release.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Very simple.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Benefits:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;Lengthens the spine.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Releases the lower back.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Settles the air in the belly.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Cautions:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;If pregnant or have a large abdomen, keep the knees wide apart.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Prolapsed lumbar disc.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;High blood pressure.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Hump in the upper back, place a cushion under your head.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;This yoga stretch is very relaxing. It has given me direction, clarity and an inner peace. It helps me deal with any problems that come up through out the day with lightness and ease, instead of becoming bogged down with anxiety and stress. Stress is still there, we can't get away from that because the fact is this world is stressful, but my daily practise of meditation helps me  try to cope with any and all situations with some degree of grace . I am very thankful for having had the&lt;br /&gt;opportunity to learn this  meditation.
