On today’s “Interior Design Ideas” we will see some great interiors and lots of beautiful outdoor spaces. Most of these homes aren’t pretentious, instead, the majority of these interiors have that welcoming feel that says “home sweet home”, which we all love.

I won’t lie, I love seeing big houses, with incredible kitchens and bathrooms and decor that we all know is very costly. But nothing grabs my attention more than a well decorated room that’s budget friendly.

As a designer,  I know it’s possible to end up with a beautiful home without having to break the bank. That’s not always easy to do, but it’s possible if you’re creative and, many times, patient. Try to visit antique stores (not the trendy ones, but the ones you know that have better prices). Also, this is the best time of the year to visit flea markets and garage sales.

Buy some paint, change the color of your walls. Buy some new, colorful pillows, let your house embrace summer, sunshine! Add some fresh flowers, change the bed linens. Open the windows and let your house breathe.

Take a close look on today’s “Interior Design Ideas” and you see that you really don’t have to shop for designer furniture to have a tailored space. Some affordable ideas for your home can be found even in the more expensive spaces found here. Sometimes, it’s how artwork hangs, how the furniture is placed and or a new idea that you haven’t noticed before.

As I mentioned before, we’ll be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary during this weekend and I couldn’t be happier. We won’t be doing much, we want to keep it simple, but special. My husband and I are very private people and even though we have some really good friends, we prefer celebrating special days just the five of us.
I know we’ll be going to have dinner at one of our favorite restaurants here and if the weather is good, I also want us to go for a walk on the beach.
All that I really want to do is to be able to tell my husband how proud I am of him. I was thinking today about how blessed I am for having him in my life. He’s an amazing father and a really great husband. He’s the kind of guy that does everything for his family and I know how rare that is to find.
We’ve learned so much about life together and my biggest wish is to have him by my side for the rest of my life.

Writing the story of my life beside him is one of the best gifts God ever gave to me and I’m very thankful for that.

Ellen Degeneres and wife Portia de Rossi just bought a new house and I’m excited to share all the photos with you today.

If you’re familiar with the world of interior design, you probably have seen this house before. Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi chose nothing less than the infamous John Saladino’s Italianate villa.

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi’s new house is impeccable inside and out! The house was built in 1929 and it was completely restored by the legendary designer.

Saladino had the house for sale for quite some time, when in March of 2012 he sold it for $16,500,000. After only a year later, the house was back on the market for an asking price of $24.5 million. It’s still uncertain how much the couple paid for their new house.

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi’s new Montecito house has 10,522 square feet, 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, two half bathrooms, nine fireplaces and it sits on 13 acres.

Drew Barrymore just listed her new house for sale and that really surprised me. The first time I saw Drew Barrymore’s house was when Oprah Winfrey visited her a couple of months ago and I couldn’t help but fall in love with its grounds and architecture.

Drew Barrymore’s house was built in 1937 and designed by Chester Carjola. Drew first bought this house back in 2010, two years before getting married to Will Kopelman. She once said she bought this house to have her closest friends over and get away from all the craziness of L.A. This has been her refugee for all of these years.

This house is so special to Drew Barrymore that she chose to get married here and I honestly believe it will not be easy for her to move from this house. This is the only house her daughter knows as “home”. Truly speaking, this home will always be part of her sweetest memories.

Oprah Winfrey visited Drew a couple of months ago and she was shocked to know how close they live from each other. Oprah promised to share her veggies from her garden with her new neighbor.

The room is classic and traditional, but Drew brought some fun with fabric and decor.

This kitchen surprises me! You imagine that, being Drew Barrymore, you can have any kind of kitchen you want, with all the bells and whistles (you know, the “usual” white cabinets and tons of white marble), but she kept everything simple and respecting the integrity of the house. I like her even more for that! By the way, don’t you also love the retro refrigerators?

Nothing can make you feel more relaxed than getting home at the end of the day and opening the doors to a beautifully decorated and comfortable space, and somehow, neutral interiors immediately give you that feeling.

Located in Newport Beach, California, this coastal home with neutral interiors was done to perfection! Designed by Brandon Architects Inc and interiors by Shannon Patterson from Patterson Construction, this is the kind of house that you simply can’t forget.

The house was built on a typical rectangular lot, wisely using as much of it as possible, while leaving space for beautiful outdoor areas. For extra outdoor space, the architect and designers created a rooftop terrace where stunning harbor views can be enjoyed.

The interiors feel harmonious and balanced with neutral hues and plenty of coastal decor. The white kitchen feels collected and practical, opening to the family room, which is always wonderful for family life and entertaining.

The bathrooms of this house are also incredible and I’m sure they’ll inspire you, especially if you’re renovating your home. Thinking of that, I added many sources, where you can find most of the items you see in this house.

Coastal Home with Neutral Interiors

This is the kind of house that makes you feel welcomed wherever you go.

Size: 2-story Single Family Residential with Attached Garage. Appx. 3200 sq. ft. Living, 660 s.q. ft. Garage, 900 sq. Roof Deck with 5 Bedrooms and4.5 Baths.

Living Room

This living room feels very relaxing. The slipcovered furniture keeps everything stylish and easy to clean.

Paint Color is “Your Bluff” by Dunn Edwards.

All the ceilings and trims in this house are “Whisper White” by Dulux in semi-gloss.

Dimensions: This formal living room is appx. 15′ square. The ceilings are 9′-9″ tall.

Drapery fabric is by Schumacher -Betwixt by Celerie Kemble – Biscuit / Ivory.

 Entryway 

This home is all about having a good time and a wine room is right there to remind you of that.

Paint Color is Dunn Edwards : Riverbed.

Wine Room

These are custom flooring made from old oak barrels. Aren’t they beautiful and perfect for a wine room?

The walls are natural stone in a random field pattern with tight grout joints.

Dimensions: 4′ wide x 4 1/2′ deep x 9′ tall.

Want to know the perfect temperature for a wine room? The ideal wine cellar conditions are 55°F with 50%-70% relative humidity.

Dining Room

The decor is simply stunning here. I love how every item relates to each other.

The wall covering is green stained grass cloth and it looks great in this room.

Pendants are by Currey & Co. The dimensions of this room are appx. 15′ x 14′

Family Room

The family room was beautifully decorated.

Fireplace is a Isokern pre-fab masonry.

Paint Color: This house was a combination of “Riverbed” and “Your Bluff” from Dunn Edwards.

Open Concept

Floors: 3/4″ thick French white oak. It is wire brushed then painted white. The white paint is wiped off then stained with black and brown oil. It is custom done on site.

Kitchen Design

The perfect white kitchen! I love the light fixtures and how fresh everything looks!

The counterstools are by Arteriors.

Powder Room

What a wonderful powder room. Great vanity and sconces. The French white oak floors was cut down on site and laid in a herringbone pattern.

This sink base is from waterworks. The designer used a hammered nickel sink and black marble with white veins for the countertop.The faucet is by Newport Brass.

The wall sconces are “Melissa Wall Sconce” by Urban Electric Company and the wallpaper is a natural grass cloth from Phillip Jeffries.

Laundry Room

I dream with a spacious and organized laundry room like this one. It makes life a little easier, doesn’t it?

The unique beadboard backsplash tiles were purchased from Concept Studio in Corona Del Mar, CA.

Floors are white thassos and fontenay clair.

Bedroom

This bedroom is tailored and very relaxed at the same time. I simply love the hues found here.

Butterflies

Beautiful custom bed and butterfly artwork.

Paint Color: Dunn Edwards’ River Bed.

The ceiling boards are from Windsor-One T&G.

Bathroom Design

This tub is called the Michelangelo (by hydro systems) it is a very close in shape and design to the Waterworks Empire tub. It is about half the price. The Empire is much more dense and solid. But if you are on a budget the Michelangelo is a great alternative.

The shower is made of limestone, called Gascone Blue and the paint Color, once again is Dunn Edwards River Bed.

Chandelier is by Arteriors.

For Two

These doors are by Jeld-wen, Custom Collection and the backsplash are mother of pearl.

Closet

The closet was custom design by Patterson Construction.

Built-ins

The glass doors keep everything visible, but dust-free.

TV Room

The TV room is full of natural light and you can hardly tell it’s located in the basement.

I also love the idea of using chaises instead of a couch.

Paint Color: Dunn Edwards River bed.

Inspiring Bathroom

You really don’t need too much space to end-up with a fantastic bathroom. You just need to be creative by adding lots of storage and by choosing each element well.

Countertop is Fonteney Clair Limestone. Natural Finish.

Sconces are from Urban Electric company.

Neutral

The shades used here were purchased from Beach Drapery in Orange County.

Small Bathroom Design

The focal point of this bathroom is, without a doubt, the custom-made mosaic floors (similar ones can be found here).

The custom vanity is made of rift-sawn white oak and the faucet is from Newport brass.

Dimensions: 6′ by 8′

Bath

Once again, we find a small bathroom with plenty of character and inspiring ideas!

Tub deck is made of Fonteney Clair Limestone. Siding is tongue and grooved Paint Grade MDF and tub is by Kohler- ” tea for Two”.

Architecture

Timeless architecture!

The exterior paint color is “Dunn Edwards white 3115″ and the lanterns are from Bevolo.

The roof is dark grey and the metal is natural zinc.

Porch

I can’t help but fall in love with the house if it has a porch… just bring me a good book!

Patio Decor

This is the kind of patio I like: low maintenance and inviting.

The floors are made of a natural stone called Shadow Grey.

Rooftop Patio

The flooring are 9×18 French Limestone. They were laid in a running bond pattern.

Watching the Sunset

This is where I would watch the sun set every day.

This kitchen feels fresh with those beams and these light fixtures.

The backsplash is by waterworks, architectonic series, 4×8, color: Icewater.

Island countertop is honed and flamed Black Absolute.

The fabric on the curtains is Ketene-5 by Kravet.

The light fixtures are from West Elm and the sink is a 36″ Rohl RC3618. The size of the island is approx 10′ x 5′.

This is one of the coolest mudroom I’ve ever seen! I love its colors and how much organized storage it has. Simply fantastic!

Gotta love this idea: The mail boxes are standard white mailboxes built into the cabinetry and painted orange.

It’s not hard to get creative in a space like this one.

The desk was painted in automotive paint. Paint Color: Benjamin Moore 2028-30 tequila lime

Hi, everyone! How are you all doing today? We had a really great weekend with the kids… The weather was fantastic, so we went to the beach and after, decided to have some lobster rolls for dinner. I just love this time of the year here!

I’m incredibly late with this post today because my Internet was down since yesterday afternoon and I wasn’t able to finish it until now. I apologize for that. Hello, my friends! How are you doing today?It’s still raining and a bit too cold here, the kind of weather that makes you feel lazy and just want to stay at home, doing nothing. Perhaps, just enjoying a yummy chocolate croissant while seeing the rain falling on the leaves.

It’s with this calmness that I prepared this week’s Interior Design Ideas. I wanted to share rooms that felt peaceful and calm but with energy. Most of these interiors have soothing colors and soft textures. Take for example the bedrooms found in this post; they’re cozy and very inviting. Just perfect to relax in at the end of the day.

But while we search for comfort in bedroom design, we often look for new ideas for our kitchen. Ideas that can improve its look and, especially, its functionality. The kitchens found in today’s Interior Design Ideas are very stylish and they’re sure to inspire us.

 It’s wonderful to have you here today! I hope you enjoyed the post and could relax a little. Don’t we all need that? I feel this year is being very challenging for so many people. Times like this we need to focus on what really matters for us. 

If you’re facing difficulties, try to focus on what’s important, on what makes you feel happy. Spend time with people you love and knows how to treat you. Surround yourself with people that can make you laugh and know how precious you are. Problems need to be faced, but stress is not the solution for them.

We all need to feel loved and appreciated in this life, and it’s even more important to feel this way when things aren’t going the way we wish they were.

We all have strength, but sometimes we need to be reminded of how strong and loved we really are.

Enjoy your weekend and keep reminding yourself that you’re very precious and will have better days.

It’s always inspiring to find older homes that have an updated look that’s in total harmony with their historic architecture. This elegant Georgian home located in West Newton Hill, Massachusetts was originally built in 1917 for John W. Weeks, a Boston financier who went on to become a U.S. Senator and U.S. Secretary of War.

The home’s original architectural details include an elaborate 15-inch deep dentil soffit at the eaves, decorative leaded glass windows, custom marble windowsills, and a beautiful Monson slate roof. But the interiors did not match its grandeur and the architects from Meyer & Meyer Architects changed the layout of the house and designed two new additions to expand the living space for this family.

Having traditional Georgian architecture, it’s surprising to see the interiors, designed by Jennifer Palumbo, as they have a strong tendency for contemporary lines. Take for example the kitchen, where a vast of modern elements are found and it somehow perfectly works with its more traditional surroundings.

Although elegant and rich looking, this home belies stuffiness and pretension. Its beauty is found in its authentic design and architecture.

 

Elegant Georgian Home

This beautiful garage is a new addition, built by Meyer & Meyer Architects.

Entryway

 The windows and door gave a great starting point but the refreshing color and style are perfection. This space exudes happiness and elegance.

Front Door Details

Many of the decorative leaded glass windows and doors are originals to the house.

Living Room

Color was incorporated in this living room with furniture and decor. It feels bright and cheerful.

Sunny

Tailored without being boring.

Dining Room

The dining room has a modern approach. The architectural details are added with millwork and arched doors.

The light fixtures “Venus Flower Capiz Pendant” are by Worlds Away . Pottery Barn has a similar, less expensive product. 

Home Office

The home office has great built-ins and beautiful architectural details.

Kitchen Design

This kitchen, designed by Venegas & Company, is light and modern. Beautiful limestone tiles were used to bring texture on the beautiful alcove.

The range is a 48″ dual fuel range, DF486C, by Wolf and the pot filler is from Dornbracht, Tara 30 151 892.

Clean Lines

Interesting mix of wood: vertical grain walnut, painted cabinets and dark stained island.

Countertop is Caesarstone, “Concrete” finish.

Venegas & Company designed the cabinets, but they were custom made by Premier Custom Built.

Island

The butcher block island is made of North American black walnut. It was made by Grothouse Lumber.

The stools are from Janus et cie.

Eating Area

The eating area feels calm and collected. To the left, you see the new family room.

Paint Color: “Realist Beige 6078″ by Sherwin Williams is a similar color.

Family Room

The family room is a new addition to the house. I simply love the ceilings. Gorgeous!

Bedroom

An arched entry welcomes you to the master bedroom. Soothing decor.

Bathroom Design

This bathroom is dramatic and relaxing at the same time. Stunning free-standing bathtub.

Closet

My favorite kind of walk-in closet is just like this one; with plenty of built-ins to keep everything organized and out of sight.

Patio

The large loggia leads to a sunny patio and lush gardens.

Today, I’m welcoming the sunshine with this colorful coastal cottage.

Located on Tybee Island in Savannah, GA, this cottage has everything someone can wish for in a coastal cottage. It has a welcoming front porch and vibrant interiors mixed with soothing spaces. And talking about space, this is a cottage that uses every inch of it in a very smart way. Take for example the second story loft, where curtains were added to create separate sleeping areas for the kids and an extra area to play.

The main floor is open and it feels spacious, full of natural light. The kitchen in this coastal cottage is also great with its grey cabinets and honed white marble countertops.

Designed by Joel Snayd from Rethink Design Studio, this coastal cottage has that great summer feel that we often crave and wish we could find more often for our delight.

The interiors of this cottage are inspiring me to bring more color into my home during this summer! I hope it inspired you too!

 

 Coastal Cottage

This screened porch is a great place to enjoy a sunny, bug-free afternoon.

I love the 1960s vintage spun fiberglass outdoor furniture. The designer added new cushions using Sunbrella fabric.

The iron urns are most likely from the 1920s.

Living Room

The living is fun, colorful and comfortable.

Rug is from GDC Home and sofa is the “Silhouettes Sofa with Dressmaker Skirt” by Hickory Chair. The sofa pillows are Thomas Paul for Duralee with solid green back and welt cord.

The pair of rattan chairs were bought locally at a store called One Fish Two Fish. The coffee table was a vintage find and the blinds are Rio woven shades.

Dining Room

The open space connecting the dining room and kitchen, makes everything much easier when entertaining.

The light fixture above the dining room table is from Circa Lighting. The finish is antique brass. The designer painted the “hood and trim pieces” a soft pale blue to give it a more vintage cottage feel.

Chairs are by Crate & Barrel and the dining table is from Hickory Chair.

Decor

The floors are 6×12 Squall slate in a brick pattern.

Stools & Stairs

The kitchen cabinets were painted in Sterling 1591 by Benjamin Moore.

The countertop is Carrera marble with a honed finish and the kitchen stools are from Overstock.

Upstairs

The second story of this cottage acts as a sleeping nook and family room.

Paint Color: The floor color is Sterling 1591 by Benjamin Moore and the walls are SW Extra White 7006.

Curtains

According to the designer, behind the white flowing curtains are built-in beds each adorned with a nautical reading light and built-in hideaway niches.

The curtains are from Pottery Barn.

Behind the Curtains

This is playful and vibrant. The designer used nautical pillows (2 for each bed) and hung them with hooks from Etsy.

The night stand is vintage, from the early 60s. Rug is from West Elm. The navy sheets and pillow covers are from Amy Butler’s Constanta Navy bedding collection.

Kids Play Area

The play area feels light and airy with painted gray floors and all white wall. This is a wonderful place for the kids to hangout.

The swivel rattan chairs and table are vintage finds.

Paint Color: Extra White 7006 by Sherwin Williams.

Grey & Yellow

What a wonderful way to spruce up a bathroom. From basic to fabulous!

The side table is by West Elm. The fabric used for the shower curtain is by Dwell Studio.

Adding Color

    

Bathroom Dimensions: roughly 6′ x 12′.

Guest Bedroom

This is a very relaxing bedroom. Small yet comfortable.

 Night stand is by West Elm and the sconces are by Ralph Lauren.

Coastal Colors

The headboard was found at an antique store and then sprayed a soft grey.

Wall Paint Color: Sherwin Williams Tradewind 6218.

Between Quilts & Shells

This vintage armoire was professionally painted.

Coastal Bathroom Design

Lovely coastal decor and sconces.

Master Bedroom

This bedroom is perfect for a cottage!

The bed is vintage and the white bed spread with green trim was purchased at a local Homegoods.

Paint Color: Sherwin Williams 6204 Sea Salt.

Bathroom

I love the classic elements found in this bathroom, such as the white marble and the claw tub.

The wall color is SW Window Pane 6210.

The mirror was found at a flea market, painted in a warm gray and then, glazed and lightly scratched with steel wool to add more patina.

 Outdoor Shower

A beach cottage with an outdoor shower? This is paradise!

Light above front door is by Barn Light

The exterior paint is Sherwin Williams Dewy 6469. The trims are Sherwin Williams Extra White 7006.

The door paint color is Sherwin Williams Gladiola 6875.

How are you guys doing today? I missed yesterday’s post because I took my weekend off to spend time with the kids. We played board games and watched hokey. My husband made a very yummy Mother’s Day dinner for us and we had a very memorable day together.
