Of course Fiverr isn't quite a hit or miss lottery. Alright then, maybe a little. This is why it's always good to roll up prepared before you start throwing fivers every which way.

The concept of Fiverr is ingenious. In a nutshell the Fiverr website offers a whole plethora of projects, tasks, jobs etc that folks will do for you for 5 bucks. (Per project).

Personally, I couldn't handle designing graphics, playing SEO expert, sending postcards, creating videos or penning a simple song for $5 too well. (But for a lot of folks in other countries, earning $5 is party time).

Especially if they're knocking over a whole bunch of projects in one day!

Quick Irreverant tip: You could almost do something similar for $20 players. You might need to think up a better name though. Twenty-er doesn't sound quite right.

So Does Fiverr Deliver The Goods?

I've had mostly brilliant work, and the occasional thrown-together project from fiver folks. 90% of the time my five bucks was money well spent .

Check out the header of this small home business ideas blog as a quick example. I've paid Fiver's to do simple programming tasks, clear away eggs and ham, play graphic designer, get Facebook liked, and (fingers crossed) basic SEO.

It's heaven to have simple tasks outsourced while you kick back with some quality DVD time. Or whatever else you do.

For the header of my blog I handed the designer my own Photoshop PSD file of the original header. (You'll see how to do this on the Fiverr website). Of course, I thought my own design was ship-hot…

Until her design blew me away .

Instinctively she knew how the eye works… how the words should flow, read and look better. OK she was right.

Of course, I'm no graphic designer. That's why I use Fiverr. (And Odesk too, but that's another weird story).

But anyway, here's…

5 things to keep in mind before you start playing with fire, I mean Fiver:

1. Look for Fivers that have strong reputations, a high rating and happy customers saying nice things about their work. (A long wait – i.e. 4 days – usually indicates the fiver is in "high demand" – and most likely produces good quality work).
    
2. In the case of logo or graphic design, gather a few of your favourites (logos and illustrations) beforehand. This helps the fiver designer create something similar. It'll help if you can sketch out your ideas too, (Ie; what colours you want, font style etc). Take screen grabs of other website ideas you like and use them as a starting point for your own design.
    
3. (If needed) send the Fiver a question before you commit to paying. Mention what sort of project you have in mind, your website URL etc, how the design or project will fit, are they comfortable about doing the job. You get the idea.
    
4. If the work sucks, pony up to the Fiver and ask 'em for a revision. Be clear exactly what they will do for you and exactly what you want done. Get that all sorted before you commit. (Easier said than done when they're designing a logo or design for you! So be as specific as you can about what you want).
    
5. Fiverr can be a powerful way to promote your website or product/services. Have a dig through the Fun & Bizarre section for starters. Want something specific done? Add your request in the Request Gigs section on the right hand side.

Re: number 3, I usually send a quick note like this:

Hi, I am keen to design a header (logo, SEO work, CSS modification, WordPress etc) for my site/blog at http://yoursite.com. It needs to look something like (reference site). I prefer a warm and friendly feel, and want to get the Photoshop PSD files too. Think you will be OK with this?

In a nutshell…

Be careful about overdoing it… Fiverr is a land of easy temptation. Do you think 33,000 back links will really help your site get noticed? Will 55,000 Twitter followers cough up to the link your Fiverr promised? Just be real.

BTW, one thing I like to use Fiverr for is infuriating little coding CSS/HTML jobs that I don't know how to do (most of the time). A knowledgeable coder will figure it out in minutes and you're on your way.

So go forth and empty your wallet of fivers. You'll discover artistic grace out there that'll help you along I'm sure of it. Just remember you're paying $5 for the job and not $50 (or $500), so keep that in mind as you walk the Fiverr path.

But before we do let me tell you that I've barely touched the review blog since May. (Of course, right?) All I did was outsource review articles (odesk), crunch them into my own words, and post the articles up on the blog. Very little other promotion going on. And only about 5 or so reviews on the blog.

So this week after digging into Google Analytics I noticed that Google had discovered my blog and was sending about 10-20 visitors a day. Pretty good for a low-ish demand niche.

Then I checked my Amazon stats and found that people were buying the stuff I was recommending. Man was I head-over-heels about that. Check the list of goodies below… The Amazonian dollars just keep on goin' up too!

So yes it does work. (At least in my situation) Now I'll be making even more effort to improve that blog… more reviews up, money shot photos, more relevant videos — and a nicer layout and hotshot logo. Fiverr roll it on out.

Obviously there's a few different paths to go down.

In addition to adding content to your blog, you also need to optimize your blog too. Keywords, meta-tags, blog title and description etc.

But what's next?

Here's a few things I do that you might find useful.

A. Have a play with DirectoryMaximizer.com – that's a low priced directory submission service that manually submits your site to SEO friendly directories. If you are planning to use that service make sure to:

1. Use 100% unique content on your blog/site for your SEO directory submissions (they frown on linking to sites created with duplicate content).
2. Try to have less than 100 directory submissions in your first month. (You could easily blast your site out to thousands of directories at once but does that seem natural to you?)
3. Resubmit to different directories each time you submit.

B. Have a play with Ping.Fm – Ping.Fm is a free service that lets you paste in your blog URL and send it out to a whole bunch of social networks. (You'll need to sign up for those social networks).

Quick tip for using Ping.fm. Promote your individual blog posts by adding a * in front of your URL like this: *http://www.yourblogname.com/your-blog-post That keeps the full URL in the ping.fm window, instead of the shortened ping.fm URL.

Only do that if you don't want to use the shortened URL.

C. Have a play with Jeff Johnson's Traffic Getting SEO Plugin – this WP plugin is a like a funky optimizer that gives you the run down on everything you need to do to optimize your blog. (Search Google for the free version).

For example it will suggest what plugins to use and install, and tell you to add your blog titles, keywords, when to post and that sort of thing.

There's also WPSyndicator, another WordPress plugin that:

• Instantly build backlinks and HUGE surges of traffic to your blog
• Automatically builds DEEP one-way links to propel your blog to the top of the search engines
• Turns 10 auto-blogs into 150+ with the click of a button

Can you tell I stole those bullets right from their sales page?

I'm not really into creating auto-blogs but if that's your thing cool.

Lee pondered over a few things he does to make a massive impact online. Like, to the tune of averaging about $4000 a day, and probably more by the time you read this.

Of course, when I see someone doing that well, the hairs on my back sit up. So I'd be SILLY not to take notice, wouldn't I?

Lee brought up a few coolish things to think about (and ponder over yourself):

1. How can you create a sales process for a product that converts as high as possible?
2. Focus on doing more of what works
3. Price Stretch – offer a super high value product that is low priced.
4. And what can you do today that will make more money tomorrow?

It pays to write those pointers down because they are definitely worth thinking over…

A perfect example of price stretching is Lee's high converting Instant Internet Lifestyle product. Crack that baby open in a new tab and take a peek. There's some cool things to learn here.

At first impression you immediately think wow, smooth presentation dude. But it's the content that steals the show. Make sure you read them bullets.

What I particularly like about Lee's approach is that he doesn't need to go chasing traffic. After all, affiliates HAPPILY push traffic his way (because they know his product converts!)

That's number 1 on the list – create a sales process for a product that converts as high as possible.

He basically created a product that is GREAT value but very inexpensive (currently $19.97). And affiliates jump on it not just because you pocket 100% commission, but because there are ongoing sales to be made.

(That includes the upsells, downsells, price bump, Business In A Box for $497 etc, that come with Lee's Instant Internet Lifestyle offering).

Lee's sales process includes lifetime affiliate tracking on 12 products (at last count). Which means you get paid if anyone you send buys 6 or 24 months down the track. And there's some high ticket goodies in there too.

This is a tempting morsel for any affiliate ready to dine!

If you create a highly converting product, pile on the value, and keep it low priced, with a good, effective affiliate program to boot, my guess is affiliates are going to LOVE it.

And that means finding traffic becomes a thing of the past!

You just spend YOUR time talking to people who want to promote your stuff (ie, some good old affiliate love). (Or heck, get your out-sourcer/PA to do that part!)

Me too! Until I discovered (just last month) Dan Brock's Deadbeat Affiliate which showed me the exact steps to creating simple review blogs.

In fact within 5 days of watching Dan's videos I had a rockin' domain registered, my review blog up and hovering in page 2 of Google…

COOL.

And this is coming from a guy who has read and purchased a LOT of products before and failed tried numerous times to put successful review sites up. Nothing came close to what Dan showed me. This is why I love video — with video instructions you SEE exactly HOW to set your review blog up.

I won't reveal my niche but let's just say it's related to electronics – and the Amazon products it promotes sell anywhere from a few hundred dollars up, averaging around the $2000 mark. No need to be skeptical of 4% Amazon commissions when you're selling high ticket items like this!

But anyways… I'll keep you posted how this review blog goes. It's still early days. And I plan to offer a bonus product that complements Dan's Deadbeat Affiliate too. (In my opinion it is excellent yet I think I can offer a few small tweaks that will add value to his product) Stay tuned for that.

1. Amazon is trusted (and known) by nearly everyone
2. Amazon has brilliant, high converting product pages (they test often!)
3. Amazon sells physical products (think HIGH price points!)

To sum up Amazon ask yourself this. How many times have you been to the Amazon.com site and been constantly reminded about all the cool things you'd LOVE to have?

I mean, hey, you can see all the reviews of products, you can see what everyone is buying, and what else they bought… and Amazon are thoughtful enough to offer a list of related things you just might want too.

So when YOU send buyers from your review blog to Amazon's magic shopping fairy-land don't you think they just might buy more than one thing?

There's reasons those nags exist to befuddle and attempt to sow seeds of doubt in your mind. (Don't let 'em!) It's usually one of these reasons:

1. You're too busy with your own business to build a web site
2. You're not really interested in the process – it's just another form of marketing
3. You're bamboozled and afraid of the web (yes, even now)

It's All Wrong.

Well it could be all wrong, but let's boogie down for a minute.

From my weirdo-Australian perspective there seems to be two different sorts of enthusiasts out there – the 'Do It For Me' folks and the 'Do It Yourself' folks. In case you guessed I signed up happily for the latter. After all, when you 'do it yourself' you feel like you're saving dollars, right? (And sometimes you have to do it yourself anyway).

But the down side to doing everything yourself is you tend not to be as prolific. You only get work done at the pace you create it. And leverage is almost non-existent.

So while you might think doing it all yourself is the fastest method and it allows you to be the dude-in-complete-control of everything your business stands for, lets consider the laws of averages for a minute. Let's say that this law dictates that out of everything you do, you'll inevitably see winners — and likely too, a massive number of losers.

Anyways, although I'm a huge Bob Proctor fan, I'm also a down-to-earth realist. And what I realised after trying to do everything myself for so long was that it's much easier to be part of the 'Do It For Me' generation. MUCH easier.

When you get other people to design websites for you, write your press releases, pen your blog posts, articles and basically promote YOU with all that time-consuming 'starting a business from home' essential stuff it can feel, well, weirdly good.

It's like suddenly you've got all this fabulous new time on your hands and you don't know what to do with it. Sure, stuff like managing your outsourcers, making sure they're doing what you want them to, etc, has to be done. But that's (mostly) an easy afternoon's work, right?

Wouldn't you rather your outsourcers to be sourcing and commenting on backlinks, penning 500 word review articles and creating snazzy Keynote videos (and anything else you need) while you sleep and dream ideas? (And while you live life!) Sounds kind of attractive to me…

In my case, I rarely write a word for my own websites now. (Except of course for a long-stretch blog post like this one!) But yeah, in my humble opinion, the do it for me approach is the easy dude's way to starting a business from home! That's because:

(And I didn't Photoshop nuthin' either, except for my dodgy attempt at graphic design that shows the date I signed up to Actually Rank).

So wrap your chops around these stats:

Not much going on really. But there is a definite increase in unique visitors in the last part of the month. (And I've been using ActuallyRank for barely 4 weeks).

There's a couple of things to take note here.

Firstly it's not like I jumped into ActuallyRank and sucked dry every single HIGH PR commenting URL I could get my hot little hands on. Far from it.

After all, that's too much work! Instead I flirted with ActuallyRank a bit. Popped in to grab some URLs when I felt the need, opened a few in my browser tabs and then closed shop for the day.

So it wasn't like I was doing back link commenting all month. Maybe I only went in 10 or so times. Heck I definitely shuffled my feet a bit.

But you know what really sucks?

Doing comment back-linking means you have to think in delayed gratification mode. Because you definitely don't see any immediate response from your site when you do it.

And nor will you for weeks, if not months or so down the track. So it's kind of like you just bite the bullet and move on to the next comment.

Then you're definitely a weirdo! But considering I did BARELY any other promotional methods for my site during that time, then what you're gawking at in my Google analytics stats should almost SHUT anyone up!

You know what they say — nothing happens until someone does something, right?

And a crucial point — EVERY action has an equal and opposite reaction.

So if you're looking for a little known (and much easier) way to get high PR backlinks without having to dig through ten-thousand PDFs and log in to 42 different websites, then give Actually Rank a trial run.

The original author (or designer/creator) has given away (or sold) most or all of the intellectual property rights to the work which means:

Because there are many buyers of the same product, the price of a single unit is generally lower than if one would create a similar product from scratch (either by himself or by outsourcing). However, you can also purchase private label content that is limited in distribution, minimizing the number of competing marketers using the same content.

But how does that relate to ways to make extra money with PLR articles? Slow down cowboy – we'll get to that in a nano-second. But firstly, here's a couple of things that are really cool about using PLR:

• You SAVE more time (for example, you don't have to come up with the article idea – it's right there in front of you!)
• Private Label Rights eliminates all that errant EXTRA thinking too. After all, it's easier to craft an article out of existing content rather than creating from scratch.

Then to be a happy camper all you have to do is…

In Your Own Words!

OK, so it's not always easier. (But you get the idea!)

Even though using PLR might feel like an unfair advantage there's always work involved to pound it into something that's useable and that people want. For example, for the PLR articles you'll need a catchy title so your articles or blog posts get NOTICED and all that time you spent on it will eventually come back into your pocket!

Quick Tip: To do that use Digg.com to source good titles… enter in your keyword, select "titles only" and look at what folks dig the most. (Just sort by Most Diggs)

Anyways, the PLR articles are great for nurturing ideas. Re-write 'em with your own weird and wonderful, unique point of view. You probably have a few change your life PLR's on your hard drive right now, just like I do.

And in case you're thinking…

Re-Purpose The Darn PLR?

And how can you use it in ways to make extra money? Well, (finally) here's a few groovy ideas to help you get started:
 

1. The warm-up. Use the PLR on your website for site content or as blog posts (investing some 'earn without work' time rewriting the content gives you the edge, adds flavour and originality).
    
2. Repurpose it. Even better, get the PLR content re-written by an outsourcer for a specific product or website you have in mind. Repurpose is your best friend!

3. Get it Scribed. Turn the articles (or content, however it comes) into a PDF and upload to Scribd.com (make sure your affiliate links work inside the PDF before you submit to Scribd. Of course you'll get this project outsourced).
    
4. Explain patiently. Create a how to page, frequently asked questions (FAQ) page or even a flashy Questions and Answers page where you explain patiently what it is you do. You do something, right? If not take a peak at J-Lads PLR videos guide.
    
5. Find your hubby. Build a HubPage (you can do Squidoo too, but Hubpages is the real thing in my opinion. Even though Squidoo apparently does for work for some people, personally I think it's a disheveled neurotic weasel of a thing).
    
6. The Google juicer. Write content for Blogger.com or WordPress.com blogs (these babies – when nurtured properly (ongoing back links, good interesting content that helps people out etc) tend to gather some nice "Google Juice."
    
7. 20 Best list. Tweak the PLR articles into a 10 best or 20 best compilation list – who can't deny a good list? Lists are easy to read and digest. You're reading this one, right?

8. Deliver the goods. Create a down-loadable ebook for attracting subscribers to your ezine or newsletter. (Make sure you're using good and valuable information that helps people learn something new).
    
9. Old school. Re-purpose the content into an actual physical or digital product. A physical product might be a home study 'how to' course with workbooks and DVDs. If you're thinking "there's a lot of work involved…" you're right – although a lot LESS work than creating a whole course from scratch!
    
10. Beer can bonus. Create relevant bonuses out of the private label rights material that will 'value add' (add additional value) to your product.
     
11. Zen Video Master. Create a video out of the PLR content! (We said 10 but this one is way too darn important to neglect!)

No Snapping Turtles?

If you're not getting any snapping turtles (no sales or your Google Analytics account is definitely broken 'cause no stats are showin' up), then here's what I would do:

1. Focus on getting more folks to your site, blog or sales page by using a back link commenting service like Actually Rank or Blogging Underground. (You can also tell your affiliates or JV partners that you're having a bad hair day and badly NEED help).

2. Create a product (or another product) and use J-Lads Video PLR guide as a starter kit to supercharge the whole process – and git that 'add to cart' button out there into the e-world!

3. Pack up and leave. Definitely not the cool dude's option. There's always a way to do things and a way to achieve success at something if you're set on it. Find that way. If it was easy everyone would be doing it, wouldn't they?

Anyways, I hope you'll pick up a few cool ways to make extra money tidbits using PLR content on this page. If you don't, then it's been a horrible mistake on my part and I'M SORRY!

Each time Google sees a link pointing at your web page they score it based on a number of factors, one of which is keyword relevance. If they see the right amount of relevant links with exact match keywords pointing at your page they will start to move your site up the rankings when people are searching for that "exact keyword phrase."

You Could End Up Going Absolutely Bonkers Just Trying To Get Started!

Thankfully Google have given us a bountiful gift in the form of their Google Adsense program.

And suddenly a lot of website owners who once felt the challenge of earning a good living online are enjoying hundreds of dollars a day from well placed Adsense ads on their sites.

But even if you're not earning that much yet, keep an open mind as we wax lyrical about how you can improve or at least start to make money with Adsense (and get the A-ball rolling!)

1. Focus On One Adsense Ad Format:

The larger rectangle ad format (336 x 280) used to be the one that was everyone's favorite. But maybe that was too "old school" because the Medium Rectangle (300 x 250) has now taken line honors. If you're wondering why, it's simple…

But more importantly, being a touch smaller gives you more room to wrap your (high quality) content around it anyway, right?

According to Google, the following ad units are the highest performing sizes for Adsense. (This just means these babies get clicked on the most!)

The Leaderboard (King Daddy, 728 x 90)
Medium Rectangle (Fat Boy, 300 x 250)
Wide Skyscraper (Baby Slim, 160 x 600)

And just so you know – it is probably a good idea to use these (now standard) sizes on your pages and blog posts for ALL types of regular ads (physical and digital products included), not just Adsense!

2. Move Adsense From The Bottom Of Your Site To The Top:

No sense in hiding away your Adsense, right? Put them in a place where people can see them quickly. (Yep, keep testing placements until the cows come home!) Actually when it comes to ways to make money with Adsense (and position your ads) Google has something to say you might find interesting:

"The top-paying ads will be shown in the ad unit that appears first in your HTML code. To take advantage of this, you will need to understand which of your ad units has the highest clickthrough rate (CTR) by using custom channels. Then, you can easily change the code of your website to make sure that your top performing unit is the one with the highest-bidding ads."

Back here on earth I find that most people click my 300 x 250 that is "wrapped" into the top of my content pages. But they also click my 300 x 250 that sits at the bottom (centre) of a content page. After all, this gives them somewhere to go after reading the article!

Confused? Don't be. Just (like always) play around with your ad placements on a page that gets some good traffic through it.

3. Create Custom Colours For Your Ads:

Choose a colour that fits well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, then white would be the colour of your ad background and border. (My border colour is nearly always the same colour as my background).

And oh yeah… use the standard blue for the links! This is because…

So Why Reinvent the Wheel?

Try using gray or off-black for the content and URL of the ads. Having said that, you may want to play around with your background colours depending on the look and feel of your own website. (Don't think for a minute that I'm excusing myself here and that I might be completely WRONG!)

4. Use Channels To Track Your Clicks:

Almost everyone who is actually making money with Adsense will harp that it's good to know which pages are winners – and which are not. You can do this by setting up channels in your Adsense account for each website or each particular section of your site.

This allows you to gather some cool visual feedback like where people are clicking and so forth. Refine your ads from there. And then, please…

5. Go For A High Paying Niche When Feasible:

If you've already got sites bubbling away out there then no need to go changing your niche overnight. But if you're thinking of unleashing shenanigans with a whole new website then keep this in mind. Some niches pay 'dem better than others!

Here's a random, off the top of my head keyword example: 'Calendars' pays out about 10 cents a click (more on a good day) while 'photography' pays out about $1.00 per click. I guess what that means is if you're earning a mere 20 clicks a day from your photo site then…

So, bottom-line, find out if your proposed niche is actually going to make money with Adsense before you jump headfirst into it. (Quick tip: You can use Spyfu.com to do that).

Of course these suggestions are just "guidelines" at best. You really need to test, experiment with your ad placements and keep a watchful eye on the results. And hey – keep imagining yourself enjoying that never-ending exotic vacation courtesy of Google's Adsense program!

Firstly, they've got this crazy yellow bar that steals 30% of your valuable screen real-estate sitting on the bottom of your window…

And the darn thing stays there until you slap in a 'non free' email address. If you're thinking "well, dude, that's fair enough" then let me ask you this…

Do you really want to be setting up a different, unique email for each of your 30+ different niches? (I'm just going to assume you've got your hot little hands on a few niches!)

Because, like, if you've ever set up emails inside your web host then you'd know it takes more than a little fiddling around to get it right…

Meanwhile the guy with the Gmail address is laughing all the way to the bank. My friends at Aweber, let me spell it out for you plain and clearly:

The last time this happened I was so mad I sent them a 'desperate user' message in their contact form. Note the puffs of steam rising from my keyboard as I furiously hammered away.

A little while later, Aweber messages me back. "Let us know the details so we can take care of it."

Then a funny thing happened.

A techie actually went into my Aweber account and:
