If you are looking to do some 3D animation in your movie production then you should check out the Cinema 4D software from Maxon. Nick gives a great tutorial HERE where he shows you how quickly and easily you can make fantastic looking images using Cinema 4D.

Taking this to the next level you can start to create animations and produce your own animated introduction movie which can be shown on your own home cinema system. Imagine how cool this will look to anyone who comes into your cinema!

I’m interested to see if this software is being used in any current movie productions so let me know if y0u come across any.

Another nice article I came across HERE talks about a costume designer who worked with some of the biggest names in the industry back in the earlier part of the century. It once again shows the beauty of having an artifact from movie history that you can adorn your home cinema system walls with. It especially works well if you can place it near or next to the movie poster of the film of its fame.

This will produce a wonderful talking point and make you feel like you are really experiencing the movie world.

The bonnet in this article was worn in the movie Pride and Prejudice by Ann Rutherford and so you can imagine the power of having this type of item in your home cinema memorabilia.

Let me know about any artifacts you have come across from movie history and send a picture of it in your own home cinema system; I’d love to see it.

Whenever you set up your own home cinema system it’s important to personalise it based around your own movie preferences. Now most people just put posters up on the walls but imagine if you could put something like this revolver on your wall, I mean, what a talking point!

There is so much work that goes into any movie and I feel it’s important to recognise all the different skill sets that go into making the production. This includes costumes, props and all the other people who work really hard to make it work.

That’s why I love this type of memorabilia to bring you closer to the cinema world so that you can pretty much smell the atmosphere.

I just came across this blog HERE about Kathryn Bigelow discussing all her films. It’s well worth checking it out as the content is really interesting.

It also discusses the immersive style of all her films and the different ways it’s included in each one. Going back as far as Near Dark there is a real feel for the nocturnal setting which brings you into that world perfectly. Point Break does a similar thing using water and gives you that feel of actually touching and immersing yourself in it.

It’s through the use of certain techniques that she is able to bring the cinema audience in and although the medium used to do this differs from film to film the technique stays the same throughout. It’s well worth looking into this more if you have the time or are interested in film direction at all as you will pick up some really good ideas which you can incorporate into your own portfolio; I know I have!

Kathryn Bigelow is one of my favourite directors and her recent work The Hurt Locker is another exceptional film. Her short term marriage to James Cameron must have had some synergy because there are definitely some similarities between the two directing styles. There is a good post HERE

They both have a great ability to bring the viewer right into the heart of the film. This is especially noticeable in Avatar through the use of 3D technology but it’s more subtle in The Hurt Locker where it slowly tightens up the film as it progresses.

The other powerful thing about these directors is that they are able to make a long film and not let it drag. This is especially apparent in the two aforementioned films which do it with ease.

Cinema should be emersive in all forms but it does take a great director to really achieve this through leveraging the power of their crew.

I recently came across this thread HERE and found it very interesting as it crosses over into the home cinema world in so many ways.

As technology gets better and better it allows the filmmakers to not just make a Hollywood blockbuster but to also start making films inside computer games. Now a normal film has one main story which is fixed although more recently we now have alternative endings and other directions even in standard films.

Anchorman was also an interesting concept because they actually made an entirely different 2nd film by using all the cut scenes; they had so many they could make an entire new film!

This leads to the question of how may possibilities are needed to really create a dynamic computer game which can have unlimited numbers of outcomes. I’m sure this will be truly possible soon but at present the advent of interactive online gaming such as World of Warcraft has really made the computer game a human on human experience and I do wonder if the complete virtual world will ever take over from this now.

I’d be interested to hear all your comments on this because as an up and coming filmmaker myself I’m very curious as to the future of this medium.

What a great game this really is. I just got it as an App on my iPhone and am already addicted to it. I saw the review at this game site HERE and am definitely going to get it for my PC now so that I can hook it up to my Home Cinema System to see how it looks on the big screen.

Be warned though, it is very addictive, especially if you play it in a dark quiet room and turn the volume up. It has some amazing trance type soundtracks to it which really take you out into space and make you feel like you are there.

What also impresses me is the use of scale and relativity. When you are zoomed in you feel like you are the biggest entity in the universe while you swallow up the smaller lifeforms but then if you zoom out you suddenly realise that you are just a spec in a huge multi-verse…Einstein was so true on this, everything is always relative and you are only ever as important as that to which you are compared.

Get this game in any format if you can and you will have literally hours and hours of enjoyment.

Just like any audio system though it’s really important that you get your room setup correctly first before you start investing any kind of serious money in speakers. Check out our home cinema system article to make sure you have the basic knowledge before embarking on this kind of project. But once you get your room right you can then start to look at some amazing speakers such as these to really make your own home cinema system shine.
