Sometimes your computer peripheral suddenly not working without any warning. Similar problem can occur on your computer mouse when it suddenly not working. Do you know Windows has provide alternative when your computer mouse had problem? It call MouseKeys, with this option you can used your keyboard as mouse.

To activated Mousekeys, go to ‘my computer’ and then go to control panel >> Accessibility Options >>Mouse (Tab) and then enable the check box “Use MouseKeys”

Click on mousekeys menu setting. As you can see, you can activate mousekeys shortcut by clicking on the box. So next time your mouse got problem, you can used the shortcut to activated mousekeys.

I recommend activate mousekeys when numlock is off (for dekstop) and for laptop you better activate mousekeys when numlock is on.

When you activate mousekeys you can see mousekeys icon on taskbar, you can disable mousekeys taskbar icon by untick on the “show mousekey status on screen”. Click ok and ok again. Finish setting up your mousekeys. Now you can used your keyboard as mouse

First of all try this method to check maybe someone accidentally disable clock on taskbar, right click on the taskbar and go into properties. Is the check mark for “show the clock” checked? If you find that the option is there, but is greyed out or you cannot check the box, you can fix this problem by downloading taskbar plus.

After Installing the software, scroll down to “toolbars greyed out or missing” and double click it. Save the reg file to your desktop and right click the file and choose merge. Now restart the computer and see if that resolves your problem.
Actually you can hide those icons rather than deleted it, well if you deleted it you will have trouble when you want to used it back. You can either using Windows registry or Tweak UI to hide icons in control panel.

Using Windows registry is a bit risky if you don’t have knowledge about it. So the safe method is by using Tweak UI, from picture above you can choose which menu you want to hiding using Tweak UI.
These problems may caused by a bad context menu handler. A context menu handler is a shell extension handler that adds commands to an existing context menu (Example: cut, copy, paste, print, etc).

Most shell extensions are automatically installed in computer by the operating system, but there are also many other applications that install additional shell extension components. For example if you install WinZip on your computer, you’ll see a special WinZip menu when you right-click on a Zip file. This menu is created by adding a shell extension to the system.

Pic.1 ShellExView

The ShellExView utility displays the details of shell extensions installed on your computer, and allows you to easily disable and enable each shell extension.

Pic.4 right-click menu after using ShellExView

ShellExView (by Nir Sofer) is an excellent tool to view and manage all installed shell extensions. If available, it displays the description, as well as version details, company information, location, file name and more. You can optionally disable or enable context menu.

Using ShellExView to determine the Context-menu causing the problem

1. Download ShellExView and run it. Once the scan is over and the list is displayed, you need to spot the context menu handlers.

2. Sort the results using “Type”, so that the context menu handlers are displayed together (pic.1).

3. The rule is to disable non-Microsoft context menu handlers one-by-one and verify if the problem is solved. If disabling one does not solve the problem, undo the disabled item and disable the next non-Microsoft handler. You have to reboot between tries to get accurate testing of the results of your disabling. Do the same until the problem is solved.

Some user would like to save their Microsoft Excel/Word as read-only file to prevent other user from editing the file. This situation normally happen when their is multiple user display the same file on same computer or network computer. Beginner computer help will show you how to using this option.

To turn on the option that will allow you to save Microsoft Excel/Word file (I’m using Microsoft Office 2002) automatically as read-only follow this step:

1. Open Microsoft Excel/Word.
2. Go to menu tools and then click on option.
3. Click on security tab
4. Tick on Read-Only recommended.

After you finish doing your job and save the file, Microsoft Excel/Word will automatically save the file as read-only.

When the next time you want to edit the file, open the file and you will see the message as picture below, click on No to make sure you can edit the file and save using the same file name. If you click on Yes you can edit the file but cannot save the file using same name.

If you want to turn off read only option, open the file and make sure you click on No after that do the step above, but this time you need to untick on Read-Only recommended and then save the file. Next time you open the file the pop-up message above will not out.
