When to Let Go?

Hi!  I’m Dawn, from Dawn’s Disaster.  I am the mom of three girls, but some days it seems like 20.  I have been blogging for only a few months, and am so glad I started!  It is hard meeting people in the real world, and seemingly so much easier in the blogging community.  During a Moderated Discussion at CrowdTap, we were asked something along the lines of “how do you define COMMUNITY?”  I said anytime people can come together for a similar liking and be cohesive with one another.  Blogging is my new favorite community.

Recently, I went to the zoo with the Big One’s class.  I wasn’t a chaperone, because I brought the other Beanies along.  It was a mad house.  I was nervous that the Big One or Ms. Middle would get lost.  While I thought I was prepared for the “worst crowds”, I was NOT prepared for what this disaster was!  I think every elementary school had “go to the zoo day” that day.  It was packed with school groups. 

Generally, I like to let the Beanie Babies roam a little in front of me.  That way, they can get a little extra gazing in AND some extra energy out.  I figure being 3 and 6, I can let them go a little ahead.  Not too far, though, but Ms. Middle likes to stay closer than the Big One, anyhow.  Well, this particular day {if it had not been for the Big One having her field trip, we would have left RIGHT AWAY}, that wasn’t happening.  I tried to control them, make them stay by me; then I realized I was probably embarrassing the Big One.  Here she was, on her first school field trip and her MOM was making her stay close; someone who wasn’t even supposed to be there.  Ugh, so I had to relinquish a little control and let her roam with her classmates.

Being this far away was killing me.  But, I needed to let it happen.  It was time to let her go {figuratively}.  She’s all grown up, with her friends and stuff.  It was hard, but it was time.  She did have a play date a few months ago, and that was hard, too.  To just leave her at someone else’s house was a feat for not only me and the Hubs, but also Ms. Middle.  

When do you know it’s time to let go?  I guess I knew when I saw the humiliated face on her, staring up at me, disappointed that she couldn’t frolic with her friends.  At least I have Ms. Middle and Little Baby to keep a “hug-on” for a little while longer.

I have been knitting only just when I have  some extra time here & there for months. I have finally completed my very first throw blanket! I used my loom knitter. I am so happy I am able to knit. I tried the regular way and couldn't get the hang of it. But I prayed and seriously Jesus showed me in my heart to try looms. I had not ever tried them before. So I went and got some. Within 20 mins I was knitting. It takes less thinking and adds for me more ease & enjoyment by using looms to knit. You can make anything you want with looms just as you could the traditional way of knitting, so I am not limited in what I can make.

 Exactly what does being a homemaker mean to me? I come from a divorced family, lived with whoever had room for me when I was a teenager, changed schools 20 times by the time I graduated from high school. All I ever wanted out of life was a family. I wanted to be a wife first and a Mom second. I met the Lord when I was 18 and have never looked back. I met my now husband after eight grade and was hooked. We were high school sweethearts and later on married. I was ecstatic . It was wonderful...but one thing was missing..he was not a saved man.....This is totally important in our marriage. I ended up pregnant with our son ...and Alan didn't want to raise his family with a drunkard father, which, at this point, he was. I was faithfully attending church and out of the blue he decided to come to the last night of revival. Yep...he was a saved man from that night on...Glory. Our home was truly complete....Years have passed and being his wife was everything I had ever dreamed, we have been blessed with a son and a daughter and though life has thrown us a couple curve balls, we have the faith that the Lord has always given to us that it is all in His plans. Serving as my husbands help meet has been the icing on the cake, I love where we are....like the old song says...in the palm of His hand. So to sum up what being a homemaker is ...to me...serving my husband, being content with what we have , and being at his side. What more could I possibly want?

I love cheap, easy to do crafting. I was walking around the Dollar Tree the other day and thought of this. I saw some super cute scarfs. I got three of them to weave into this dollar tree basket. I did gray, yellow, gray. 

I think it turned out cute and took less than ten minutes. So if you have little ones you can slip in some fast crafting time while they nap. Or this would make a great project for kids too! This basket is cute to use in a nursery or hide your magazines in, kids toys the list goes on! Its a great organizational item with a cute flare.

 4 dollars is all it took! I love crafting stores like Micheals, Hobby Lobby and all they have amazing stuff but it can be costly at times. With the Dollar Tree I can walk in and use my imagination and take ordinary items like the basket & scarf and make something cute & useful. I love using my imagination on  Dollar Tree prices!

Edging : You can really use anything you like even just cut out dirt. Make sure you make a nice flow around your plants. Examples of edging can be rocks,wood,gates,natural flowering, a tiny trench around the edge of the garden.

He truly hit home on so many things I needed to hear in this book. He covers a lot of topics and always roots his prescriptive & advice to you in the word of God.  Craig doesn't just tell you how something should be done but shares his own lifes ups & downs and trails and how God mentors him in the storms to come out to better more abundant living to be who God made him to be.

He helps us discover in Altar Ego,  instead of living with an ego that is outward-drive and based on other people's approval he shows us how to live with our altar ego ... meaning the truth of who you really are in Christ. He truly helps us embrace the true YOU.  Craig says in his book " as you realize how much God has planned for you to do in this world, I pray you will live with a long-term perspective, making decisions that will honor God and propel you forward over time. You sacrifice your own ego-driven agenda in order to experience the perfect timing of God's clock" 


This book is jam packed with Godly wisdom and it truly one of the best life changing books I have read to date.

I had an empty little corner of my dinning room by the window. I wanted something simple and useful in the corner. So I took my occasional chair and placed it there. I went to T J Max and found a pack of two wonderful chevron pillows for only $20! I added it to my little chair for some simple pop!

I wanted to do a simple and fast craft to hang on the wall. So I went upstairs to my trusty craft ben and found a new wreath I had bought on sale super cheap a while back , I had not yet used! I found this cute as could be unpainted wooden bird cage and after painting hung it on the wreath. The wreath itself reminds me of a birds nest so I think it looks charming together!

I just love decorating my little cape cod!
