Another weekend has come and gone. Why does it seem like summer just started, and yet Labor Day is only three weeks away! We got a very late start with summer this year – it was still snowing in May. I am not ready for fall, or more specifically, the WINTER – but this time of year I always go in to a nesting mode. This weekend was the perfect culmination of summer splendor and pre-autumnal nesting.

Saturday we went to the Saint Paul Farmers Market. It is a little more of an “event” now days. No more free parking in the Gillette parking lot. We were directed to the shiny new Union Depot parking ramp (a project that was completed by my day job employer.) Some very friendly young men hired by the Farmer’s Market greeted us with a coupon for a free water or coffee at the donut stand as a thanks for tolerating all of the “change.” Who can say no to a free coffee?

The Farmer’s Market in Saint Paul is awesome because all of the produce has to be locally grown, and the vendors cannot re-sell produce. That is not the way the Minneapolis market is structured – which is fine – just not my deal. I was pleased with the restraint that we exhibited. Everything looks so wonderful, it’s easy to over purchase. We decided to roast root vegetables on Saturday and opted for a melange of orange, purple, and yellow carrots, a bunch of beets, and some small fingerling potatoes. Sunday night we were having fish and wild rice, so we thought sautéed zucchini and yellow squash would compliment that nicely. Dale decided a while back that he would like to have a chicken coop, but since the city says no, sir – we found a terrific source for fresh eggs. It so happens that this source also sells poultry, beef, and pork in bulk – so in the future we could save a bundle by purchasing meat and keeping it in the freezer. Dale was very excited, and that makes me smile.

Welcome to Honeybee Design! Hi, I’m Jessica. I’m an obsessive crafter, cook, novice sewer and occasional DIYer. I spend my days working as a marketing coordinator and graphic designer for a large contractor. It is a wonderful company, I work with terrific people, and I love what I do. It pays the bills, but it doesn’t fulfill my need to be creative, to be creating something. Honeybee Design began as a small stationery design business in 2001. Since then I have created invitations, announcements, and other paper goods for many lovely people. My family is a big part of my life. I have two nieces and two nephews and they are the apple of my eye. I am sure they will make an appearance in my posts.

This is my first blog post, and it’s a little funny to start writing this because the reality is, I don’t have an audience yet. I sincerely hope that I will be able to follow in the footsteps of the great bloggers that have inspired me. I realize that it has taken each of these women years to develop and grow their blog and readership to the success that it is today. But I am inspired, and know that when I set my mind to something I am able to accomplish it. So I am setting my mind to a new blogging journey. I am excited to see what this will chronicle in a year, or two, or three. It will be a diary, but instead of documenting my innermost secrets, fears and worries, I will reveal my inner creative, a place to document projects, share ideas, offer my designs and hopefully make you smile along the way. You will find many free printable downloads, tutorials for simple and inexpensive projects, as well as my musings on family, friends, food, design and the randomness that is my life.

Enjoy!
