PCMAV 3.0 Ragnarok

Had attended the latest edition of PC Magazine Media 04/2010, which is a special edition anniversary of the 9 and is equipped with a DVD-9 with a capacity of up to 8 GB. Of course, also include antivirus pride Indonesia, which has reached PCMAV Release 3.0 with code name Ragnarok. Currently, PCMAV is the only one capable of recognizing antivirus 3164 virus and its variants are reported more widespread in Indonesia.

NEW FEATURES & PERFORMANCE PCMAV 3.0
a. Rewrite ENGINE OPTIMIZATION:

Radically rewrites most of the core code PCMAV components to fit the latest generation of the compiler used by PCMAV 3.0. The result, PCMAV is now more compatible and stable on Windows 7 32-bit.

b. Lightest ON SYSTEM RESOURCES:

Compared to previous generations PCMAV, PCMAV 3.0 is now truly extraordinary is lighter because it can save memory usage by 90%, although with the introduction of the virus database of the largest in Indonesia (more than 3000 viruses). In Windows XP SP3, is idle, the average memory usage by PCMAV 3.0 only for the 2 MB! Comparing with previous generation PCMAV is idle requires 35 MB of memory usage.

c. CPU multicore scanning OPTIMIZATION:

PCMAV 3.0 runs faster on multi-core CPUs the latest generation. With the use of multi-thread technology complex nan, PCMAV 3.0 capable to work faster by utilizing architectural features multi-core CPUs automatically, either based CPU Intel HT technology (Pentium 4, Atom, Core i3/i5/i7, etc..) or AMD. From the test results on the Intel Atom N270 Netbook with Windows XP SP3, PCMAV 3.0 capable to work 2x faster than previous generation PCMAV.

d. UPDATED!

Added database identifier and cleaning viruses 30 local / foreign / new variants spread in Indonesia reported. Total 3164 virus and it variants.

Change the name of the virus following the new variant was found.

NVIDIA Responds To INTEL Court Filing

Defends Its Right to Innovate for Consumers

SANTA CLARA, CA. – FEBRUARY 18, 2009 – NVIDIA Corporation today responded to a Monday court filing (Court of Chancery in the State of Delaware) in which Intel alleged that the four-year-old chipset license agreement the companies signed does not extend to Intel’s future generation CPUs with “integrated” memory controllers, such as Nehalem. The filing does not impact NVIDIA chipsets that are currently being shipped.

“We are confident that our license, as negotiated, applies,” said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. “At the heart of this issue is that the CPU has run its course and the soul of the PC is shifting quickly to the GPU. This is clearly an attempt to stifle innovation to protect a decaying CPU business.”

NVIDIA entered into the agreement in 2004 in order to bring platform innovations to Intel CPU based systems. In return, Intel took a license to NVIDIA’s rich portfolio of 3D, GPU, and other computing patents.

Since signing the agreement, NVIDIA has offered innovations such as SLI®, Hybrid power, and CUDA™ parallel processing. ION™, the most recent innovation, integrates a powerful NVIDIA GPU, north bridge and south bridge into one compact die. When combined with a CPU, ION enables a two-chip PC architecture for Intel processors two years ahead of Intel’s own solution. In addition, the ION platform offers 10x the performance of Intel’s current three chip design.1

The industry and consumers now count on innovations from NVIDIA. Microsoft recently endorsed ION because it offers consumers the first truly affordable premium Windows experience. Late last year Apple selected NVIDIA’s chipset for its entire new line of notebooks including the MacBook Classic, MacBook Air, MacBook and MacBook Pro. Today, companies like Acer, Alienware, Asus, Dell, Falcon Northwest, Fujitsu, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, MSI, NEC, and Toshiba all ship exciting innovations created by NVIDIA as a result of its agreement with Intel.

Huang said that, given the broad and growing adoption of NVIDIA’s platform innovations, it is not surprising that Intel is now initiating a dispute over a contract signed four years ago. Innovations like ION, SLI, Hybrid power, and CUDA threaten Intel’s ability to control the PC platform.

NVIDIA has been attempting to resolve the disagreement with Intel in a fair and reasonable manner for over a year. NVIDIA’s chipsets for Intel’s current CPU bus interface are not affected by the dispute.

NVIDIA Names Stanford's Bill Dally Chief Scientist, VP Of Research

SANTA CLARA, CA –JANUARY 28, 2009 –NVIDIA Corporation today announced that Bill Dally, the chairman of Stanford University’s computer science department, will join the company as Chief Scientist and Vice President of NVIDIA Research. The company also announced that longtime Chief Scientist David Kirk has been appointed “NVIDIA Fellow.”

About Bill Dally
At Stanford University, Dally has been a Professor of Computer Science since 1997 and Chairman of the Computer Science Department since 2005. Dally and his team developed the system architecture, network architecture, signaling, routing and synchronization technology that is found in most large parallel computers today. At Caltech he designed the MOSSIM Simulation Engine and the Torus Routing chip which pioneered “wormhole” routing and virtual-channel flow control. His group at MIT built the J-Machine and the M-Machine, experimental parallel computer systems that pioneered the separation of mechanism from programming models and demonstrated very low overhead synchronization and communication mechanisms. He is a cofounder of Velio Communications and Stream Processors, Inc. Dally is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. David Kirk has been with NVIDIA since January 1997. His contribution includes leading NVIDIA® graphics technology development for today’s most popular consumer entertainment platforms. Secret Items on the Windows 7 Send To Menu

While poking around in Windows 7, I discovered extra context menu items using the same Shift + Right-click trick we used to open a command prompt from the desktop menu, and we've got big colorful screenshots to show you today.

Viewing the Secret Items

These are the default items that you should see on the Send To menu when you right-click on a file:Hold down the Shift key while right-clicking on the icon, and then try the Send To menu… all sorts of extra options!If you want any of those to show up normally without holding down the Shift key, you can create shortcuts in the Send To folder. Just type the following into the location bar:

shell:sendto

And then drag shortcuts to your preferred folders into this folder.I've found that using custom shortcuts in the Send To menu can be very handy… I use them to upload images to the web server on a daily basis.

Remove the Ugly "Send Feedback" Link in Windows 7 Beta

One of the things our articles have always focused on is how to remove annoyances from your computer, and after installing the Windows 7 Beta we noticed the ugly Send Feedback link in the upper right-hand corner of every window, and found out how to disable it.

Note: before we get into how to disable this, you should think about whether you really want to do it. Keep in mind that this is a Beta version of Windows, and it's only YOUR feedback that is going to make Microsoft change or fix anything before the release, so you should be submitting as much feedback as you can.

For those that aren't sure what we're talking about, this screenshot should explain it:Manual Registry Hack

The first thing you'll want to do is open up regedit.exe through the start menu search box, and then browse down to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Once there, find the FeedbackToolEnabled key on the right-hand side, and change the value to 0.To revert it back, change the value to 3 again.

Add the Quick Launch Bar to the Taskbar in Windows 7

In yesterday's article we showed you how to make the Windows 7 taskbar work more like XP or Vista, but we left one thing out: the Quick Launch bar. It's really not too difficult to add it back, although it will take a few more steps.

You should note that the new Windows 7 taskbar allows you to dock items to the taskbar, combining the features of both the normal taskbar as well as the Quick Launch. For more on this, be sure to read through our coverage of the Windows 7 beta if you haven't already.The above screenshot is the Windows 7 taskbar after changing back to XP/Vista mode, and adding the quick launch bar back. Looks just like Vista doesn't it?

Adding the Quick Launch Bar Back to Windows 7

To add the toolbar back, you'll want to right-click on an open area of the taskbar, and choose Toolbars \ New Toolbar from the menu. You should probably also unlock the taskbar at this point.Now's the slightly tricky part… you'll want to paste the following path into the location bar:

Make sure that the location bar shows the full path, like the next screenshot, before you choose the "Select Folder" button.You'll immediately notice the Quick Launch toolbar on the taskbar, but it's all the way over on the right, so you'll want to click on the dotted lines and then drag the toolbar all the way to the left (which is slightly tricky sometimes). Note that you'll need to right-click and unlock the taskbar before you can move the toolbar.There we go, it's over on the left… but now you'll want to adjust the regular taskbar toolbar to be closer to the left, so use the dotted lines to drag it over as well.The normal Quick Launch that we're used to doesn't have text, so right-click on the dotted lines and uncheck "Show Text" as well as "Show Title" from the menu.Once you're sure it's the way you want it, you should check the "Lock the taskbar" again.And there you are, the quick launch bar has returned and there's virtually no way anybody would know this is Windows 7.

Prevent Annoying Websites From Messing With the Right-Click Menu in Firefox

If you've spent any amount of time online, you've already run into a website that uses javascript to disable the right-click menu on the page… which can be really, really irritating for those of us that like to use the "back" feature on the context menu.

Why do they do this? Usually it's a misguided attempt to keep people from viewing the source of their pages or stealing their images, but all they really do is end up annoying their readers into never coming back. Ever.

Hint: it doesn't really stop anybody from stealing. It's the tech equivalent of searching 85-year old grandmothers on airplanes for knitting needles. If you do it on your pages, stop it now.

Disabling Annoying Context Menu Javascript Nonsense

Open up the Tools \ Options panel, and then go to the Content "tab" on the top. You'll see three buttons on the right-hand side, choose the one that says "Advanced".From this dialog you can uncheck the option for "Disable or replace context menus". Note: If you also want to prevent websites from resizing your browser window, you can uncheck "Move or resize existing windows" while you are at it.And now your context menu will work perfectly fine on the page.It should be noted that disabling this setting will prevent customized context menus from working on sites like Google Docs… so it's a toss-up on which feature you like more.

Make the Windows 7 Taskbar Work More Like Windows XP or Vista

The single most visible change in Windows 7 is the new "dock style" taskbar, which shows icons instead of buttons, with all application windows combined within a single button. I'm quite certain that the very first question many people will have is "How do I turn it off?", and this article will show you how.

Note that I'm not advocating going backwards, I'm a fan of the new style and think you should give it a chance… but we're all about giving you options, so here we go…

For those that haven't already read our coverage of the Windows 7 Beta, this is what the new taskbar looks like:Changing the Windows 7 Taskbar to XP/Vista Style

To revert back to the older style, the first thing you'll need to do is right-click on any open area of the taskbar and choose Properties from the menu.From the Taskbar buttons drop-down menu, you'll want to choose "Never combine", which will make every window show up as a separate button on the taskbar, or you could choose "Combine when taskbar is full", which does just like it says.Now you should see the buttons show up with text labels like you are probably used to… but in the Windows 7 style.If you chose the "Use small icons" checkbox in the properties screen, the taskbar will actually shrink down to look very similar to Vista.The only problem is that the "pinned" icons are still sitting on the taskbar, which isn't the same as Vista or XP, but you can easily remove all of them by right-clicking and choosing "Unpin this program from taskbar".And now the taskbar looks and works very similarly to Windows Vista:If you wanted to be really silly, you can choose the "Windows Classic" theme under the Desktop \ Personalize section… but that would be taking it a little too far, I think.I strongly urge you to at least give the new Windows 7 taskbar a try… it takes a little getting used to, but it's really a nice move forward. Disable the Mouse Drag Window Arranging Feature in Windows 7

One of the hot new features in Windows 7 is the improved window management functions… you can simply drag a window to the top or sides of the screen, and it will be maximized or resized to take up only half of the screen.

The only problem is that some people like to drag windows partially off the screen, a very useful technique when you only need to see the edge of a window… but in Windows 7 it will resize the window to fill half the screen. So how do we disable it?

Here's a screenshot of what we're talking about...Disabling this feature will also disable dragging to the top of the screen, but you could turn it on or off as needed.

Disabling Mouse Window Drag Arranging

Open up your Control Panel, and then go to the Ease of Access center. From there, click on "Make the mouse easier to use"...And then remove the checkbox for "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen", and then click the Apply button to actually save the setting.I personally like this feature so I probably won't be turning it off, but it's nice to know it's configurable.

Registry Hack to Set Internet Explorer Start Page

System administrators will almost always set the default home page for the browser to the corporate website or intranet when building a machine. This is just a small registry hack that will set the home page for IE6 or IE7.

You could probably use this in a logon script to set to home page on all users when they login to the network.
