This Just In From India –
100 Center Goal a Success!

     WATCH THIS VIDEO

On February 10th, 70 donors and sponsors of HoPE Learning Centers from around the globe enjoyed a heart to heart connection with 40 HoPE Heroes (special bright children who won awards for leadership, acts of compassion, overall improvements and personal transformations).

The purpose of this HoPE Gala in India was to celebrate Dr. Pillai’s Birthday on his Birthstar day and to thank all supporters who have helped us grow from 7 to 70 HoPE Learning Centers within 7 months! And now we have the funds for 100 Centers- his Birthday Goal was Victorious! Thank you for all of your love & support!

This was the first time that these very poor rural children left their remote villages, experienced a city and visited a 4-star hotel! Yet, their light shone brightly as they received candles of light and love from donors, offered hand-made flower bouquets, shared happy feelings of their new lives, performed skits and danced to a heart-warming song called “You Have Made A Difference.”

Dr. Pillai was delighted like a child himself when he witnessed the brightness and boldness of these shiny, happy children at this event and the transformation of children during his visits to HoPE Learning Centers. The event and completion of this monumental goal are the best presents that we could have given Him. He now wants to open up Centers all throughout India!

Enough words for now… experience the incredible joy in this heartwarming video!

We have big plans for the greatest day of the year for our HoPE children…

Holiday Charity Drive Goals:

1) To give all HoPE Center children and their families the greatest Diwali celebration ever

2) To provide beautiful new clothes and school bags to 1,540 children in 44 HoPE Learning Centers

3) To fill all of these children with HoPE and Light to last all year long and beyond

We Need YOUR Help:

Bringing Light and HoPE to so many children is not an easy feat.

We need to raise $30,000 to cover the costs of feasts and gifts for all of the children and families – 1540 in total!

Volunteers of the Month – Marrio and Chantel Romero

Marrio and Chantel Romero developed curriculum for HoPE Learning Centers’ innovative Personal Transformation Program, which helps children to transform every aspect of life and unleash their highest potentials. In Chantel’s words, “Love and devotion run deep within the roots of our family. Each time we see the smiling faces of the children at the Hope Centers, we are touched in a way that reminds us that they too are a part of our family. We devote our time to loving them knowing that this is the power that can move mountains and right wrongs. These children are an awesome measure of love, determination, and resilience. Even in their early years, they are leaders without knowing. From their example, we are reminded to laugh more, appreciate more, share more, and love more. By these standards, even our own children have experienced the rewards of participating in the creation of the Hope curriculum. This work has been an inspiration to push beyond self-defined limits and become a part of something bigger than ourselves. “

Artist Extra-Ordinaire & HoPE Center Sponsor, Heather Anderson

While reading a multitude of articles about Heather Anderson’s artistic accomplishments, it is hard to believe that this vivacious illustrator was once down on her luck and barely able to pay monthly rent. All of this changed when she met Tripura Foundation’s founder, Dr. Baskaran Pillai, at a temple in Singapore. In fact, she soon started to channel artwork from other dimensions. To further tune into vibrations of gratitude and pay not only rent but appreciation for such a huge shift toward success forward, she recently signed up to sponsor an entire HoPE Learning Center. After visiting Centers in rural India, Heather wrote: “It was amazing to see the children at the Hope Centre and to know how much has been done to completely turn their lives around. Thank you for making our visit to them possible. I was deeply touched by their sincerity and openheartedness towards us all. One little girl just held onto my hand for ages when we were leaving, she was like a little beam of bright light. “

A HoPE Center is made up of students, like Jeevetha. She is from the village Puducherrymedu, which is north of Chennai and has 120 houses. It is very dry, so agriculture is entirely dependent on rains. Jeevetha is in 9th grade. Every day, she and 50 other children from her village used to walk 6 kilometers to school because there was no method of public transportation. Last January, when the District Collector visited a nearby town, she wrote a petition requesting a bus facility for her village, got signatures of friends and then submitted it. Needless to say, the Collector was impressed by her self-initiated leadership and immediately passed orders for a nearby transportation department to run busses during school hours. The entire village is proud of Jeevetha for taking initiative when so many others felt resigned to accepting conditions as they long had been. She is now a role model for youngsters and adults. She is a living example of what is possible when HoPE is in the mix. In upcoming months, Tripura Foundation will launch a program to encourage young people to take actions to help themselves and others as HoPE Champion Super Heroes.

As you are probably now aware, a HoPE Center is many things; but, Tripura Foundation’s 37 Centers wouldn’t exist if kind-hearted skillful volunteers didn’t set them in place and keep them up and running via a multitude of services. Varakulan Kantharaja tops this month’s list of volunteers who bring HoPE to thousands of children in rural India. He was born in Sri Lanka but has lived near Chennai for 27 years. He had no experience working directly with poor children, but came to work as IT Project Manager for Pillai Center and Astroved over five years ago and has since been inspired to build up Internet presence as HoPE initiatives continue to develop. Varakulan has yet to walk away from a challenge, whether late at night or early in the morning. He offers solutions to countless problems but modestly requests that we acknowledge his teammates for all successes on the techy front.
