Really enjoying the warped out and refreshingly jazz-y beats from London-based producer Tyrone Smith, a.k.a. T-Funk. I could ramble on and make some easy, blasé comparisons to Dilla or Madlib, but man, no one has time for that. The only comment I can really make is to advise you to just sit back and listen, alright?

I’ve finally finished my degree. The only obvious result, thus far, is that I’ve felt a lot more restless and, surprisingly, quite emotional. For all the anti-climax of handing in my work it’s only just beginning to hit home that I actually do have to start growing up now.

What better way to grow accustomed to this than listening to the excellent three track instrumental EP from Portland band/soloist Jeanette Street? Brought to my attention via über-bro Jamie Milton on the pages of the ever-vibey Portals, I couldn’t help but be drawn in to precociously spacious soundscapes. It’s awash with atmospheric substance, perfectly suited to counteract my post-adolescent angst.

I guess this could easily be labelled as a song for those peeps who wished james blake’s new album sounded like his older material; not that I’d wish that myself. arcane’s (mostly) downplayed, soulful pining is largely killer and shouldn’t be simply lumped in with another moody producer for the sake of it.

arcane does enough here to stand out and hell, the ever-great pictures music are releasing this, so it must be up to scratch, right? stream below and make your own mind up.

this one’s gone and done the rounds a bit, of course, but just getting it up here to say, in the midst of finishing my english literature degree, (with a surprisingly low amount of actual literature right now) I really appreciate any and all author puns, Salvia Plath being well and truly up there. the song is a piece of hypnotic beauty, too, so if you haven’t already, make time and watch the video below.

“house of leaves” is off of the bardo story, forthcoming on weird world.

the child of lov – fly (romare remix)

I don’t really know where to start with this, I really liked The Child of Lov’s “Fly” (a truly brilliant piece of music). But jeez, Romare doesn’t half muck around. To say “muck around” doesn’t give this tune the credit it’s due. Wicked bouncing beat, intermittent bass hits, and a slow grinding synth that winds the track up like a giant sized mechanical toy robot. Not too sure what that last bit was referring to, I’m just really digging this right now.

One of the many Abjo tracks that have my ears magnetised to my speaker system. Abjo, short for Abjonian Sanders, . Short but really sweet, Abjo has most definitely got me listening. Nothing but a sweet melody and rhythm.

you know what’s weird? i only just experienced this like, Yuck resurgence, if you will, in my life, had the album on repeat for a couple of days, realised how good said album is, and then, all of a sudden, the band announced that Daniel Blumberg had left and was off pursuing a solo venture. Here is said venture.

Hebonix’s “Unreal” is the first track off of a forthcoming album that ATP are releasing this July! It sounds like the magically off-kilter and lucid moments that frequented the Yuck album, but rather elongated and out-stretched into real dreamscapes. stream it below.

Alongside having one of the more consistently great artist twitters out there, Will Wiesenfeld, b.k.a Baths, made one of the best albums in recent memory with Cerulean, and is getting everyone pretty much hot under the collar awaiting more news of his sophomore LP under the moniker, Obisidian, which is coming May 28th, from Anticon. The second track available ahead of release, “Ironworks”, is a meditative and beautiful piano-led track with Wiesenfeld’s soothing falsetto arching in and around the music. A perfect appetiser then. San Fransisco-via-Brooklyn outfit Flower Orgy, the assembled crew led by singer-songwriter Nate Luce, are releasing this new 7″ on FIRE TALK and it’s got me yearning for a long, chilled out summer, as opposed to sporadic bouts of extremely nice weather we’ve been experiencing, where the nights are long and the campfire never dies.
