Joanne Eccles aims to win FEI Vaulting World Cup

World number one vaulter, Britain's Joanne Eccles, and her sister Hannah will compete in the FEI World Cup vaulting final this weekend (4-5 February).

Hot line-up

The first full FEI World Cup™ Vaulting season will culminate in a hotly contested final in Bordeaux, when the sport’s top male and female vaulters will compete to secure the World Cup title.

The series has been hard fought with 10 male and 10 female vaulters competing in five qualifiers in Kiel (GER), Munich (GER), Salzburg (AUT), Paris (FRA) and Leipzig (GER).

New figures released by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) reveal that over one million dogs in the UK are showing signs of aggression, including growling, snarling, and biting, towards humans and pets on a weekly basis.

Charity makes 'urgent bit appeal' to help working horses in The Gambia

A UK-based charity is making an urgent appeal for bits in order to help alleviate the suffering of working horses and donkeys in The Gambia.

The local bits used in Gambia are made from poor quality metals and, due to their design, can cause horrific tongue and mouth injuries. These injuries can often be so severe that they prevent the animal from eating, leading to weakness and even death.

Some may have assumed Brit was now in retirement, but Lucinda has never even considered the option. For the last two years, she hasn't wanted to risk competing the mare on hard ground, as with her shorter legs and stride, she has to work twice as hard as any other horse.

Equestrian sport is celebrating its 100th year at the Olympic games. It was first seen at the 1912 Games in Stockholm, with eight countries taking part - while a total of 21 nations are celebrating their Olympic qualification for London 2012.

Eleven countries have now secured the opportunity to join the nine nations already qualified at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Game 2010 in Kentucky and hosts Great Britain at London 2012 through a series of nail-biting qualifiers held around the world for their Olympic Group.

Charlotte Dujardin finishes second at the World Dressage Masters in Palm Beach

There was a repeat of Friday night's Grand Prix results in the World Dressage Masters Palm Beach on Saturday, with American Steffen Peters winning the Grand Prix Freestyle on Ravel, and Charlotte Dujardin finishing second on Valegro.

The 2012 series of the South Essex Insurance Brokers (SEIB) Search For A Star and the SEIB and Retraining of Racehorses Racehorse to Riding Horse Show Championships will begin in May, with five qualifiers throughout the country.

Now entering its 15th successive year, Search For A Star was created by SEIB to encourage amateur riders to produce their horses to a high standard in the show ring and to give them the opportunity to compete at the prestigious finals at the Horse Of The Year Show (HOYS).

Charity urges owners not to take on too many horses

World Horse Welfare (WHW) is urging horse owners to think twice before taking on too many animals, as the charity’s Field Officers are seeing an unprecedented number of welfare cases involving large groups of horses.

The charity's Field Officers have recently seen several examples where they have investigated a welfare concern in response to a call from a worried member of the public, and upon arrival found groups of horses with numbers ranging from anything between six and 150.
