i had to choose between the blog, my day job or weddings. the blog lost. for now.

the bad news for my blog: i am doing something like 11 weddings this year. in perspective, i do 3-4 a year. that’s almost 4 times the number of weddings i normally do. all the creative juices i had left went to those couples and their special days and gatherings; and to my weekly sermons. i had nothing left.

the good news for my blog: i am down to 3 weddings. and i get a sabbatical in the fall. so i will attempt to dream it up again. but not if its work or no fun. i may need a few weeks before the juices flow.

hope to write to you in the fall.

for the next year, we will explore different permutations of patty to honor our friend, patty. like with leo…we have enough to start but not to finish…as of yet! so submit your best and favorite patties…..

this year so far, we’ve called her peppermint patty, paddy wagon, hamburger patty, mental tele-patty,patty mayonaise ,st. patty’s day, patty cake and filet o’ fish patty, pattingdon bear

this month, she has been called on the war patty, patty smith

this week, she will be called patty thai as suggested by leo chen of leography fame

world tour 2010 has started….my parents take me everywhere. first stop is part of daddy’s work: doing a wedding at a resort in mexico. its a hard knock life.

i enjoyed the warm weather after being bundled up in layers during the coldest winter of my life(aka my first winter). i also liked the swimming almost everyday.

too bad, i caught some weirdo virus on the way home and got sick for the very first time. next time, mom and dad should wipe down the nappy crib.

the predecessor to the jon stewarts and the stephen colberts of the world…the one who is the missing link between the fake news of snl and the fake news phenomenon of today(see dl hughley with his show on cnn…cnn!)is craig kilborn. the former sportscenter anchor turned faux headlines anchor turned(now)actor and behind the scenes producer used to have a daily moment of zen on his show. the kids would call it a wtf??? its a crazy, unbelievable, can’t make this up scene that leaves you speechless…and in wonder. i won’t(can’t)do this daily but will post whenever i see something….wow?

this is not a joke…this is real. this is exactly what it sounds like…it is a chia pet minus pet plus obama. facebook folks will have go to the original post to see this omg moment.

some of our favorite(home)things: grandma’s chicken thing

i blog primarily to document my life. our lives in and around the agapeshack.

we’ve been painting the wrong picture for you…..we don’t eat out all the time…we actually cook a lot. especially after theresa finished classes at the french culinary institute. and especially since grandma is with us, cooking korean everyday. so as we transition into our baby days and eating out less….here are some of the everyday things we eat…because we cook them on a regular basis.

my history with this dish…my favorite dish of grandma’s…theresa’s favorite dish of grandma….nearly every cousin of theresa’s favorite dish of grandma…starts out in la before she came to live with us. we would visit her every year and that first year, she was going to cook for me as part of a welcome dinner. i was nervous. would it be too spicy for me? what’s in it? what is it? what kind of chicken?

theresa gave me minimal details. it has chicken. some veggies. and potatoes. and its good. that’s what she told me.

i asked for perhaps a name….for the dish? the response was…..chicken thing????

chicken thing was not sounding good. but that seems to be what all the cousins call it too.

since i work with words for a living, i will attempt to describe it a bit better. its a slightly spicy, savory chicken stew with carrots and potatoes, onion and garlic. and crack cocaine. it is amazing. i could eat this all the time. every meal.

come on over sometime and request the chicken thing.

here’s a shot of the meal in context with other korean side dishes, theresa in her husband beater and zoe just sick to her soul that she can’t have any chicken thing yet and has to eat baby food. she clearly wants table food.

since this shot, zoe has had some of the sauce and chicken. and maybe even some of the veggies.

i haven’t done this in awhile….hmmm….the last one was around zoe’s birth! another casualty of fatherhood. hope to finish off the series before they disappear off youtube.

i was thinking that we need a mascot for duh!journal….or a funny pages section….or at least one regular comic strip. most newspapers and magazines have at least one of these. even the new york times….on sundays….in their magazine is a weekly strip. so i scoured the earth and am going to post the sasquatch ads from jack links beef jerky.

these videos communicate duh! because the humans in the videos mess with the monster known as sasquatch with disastrous results. you don’t mess around with monsters!! what makes it double duh! is that the dumb@$$e$ buy, consume and enjoy the product the commercials are selling giving the subtle subtext of dumb@$$e$ eat and like our beef jerky; we’re dummies! and you can be just like us! by eating our products!

sure you could look them up on google or youtube…..so what would be the point of watching them here?….but isn’t that the case with any video that’s posted? maybe you have found out about the videos here….will watch them elsewhere….and relive them here as i post them periodically.

at the garden: u2 rock and roll hall of fame concert

my boy q is one of the most positive guys i know. when i was able to pull up tickets to a snow patrol show at the tiny bowery ballroom, he was genuinely happy for me. when i told him that i also won tickets to an even smaller show at sirius radio’s studio for about 35 people…he then said….i was happy for you, but now i am angry and i hate you. here’s another opportunity to draw out q’s wrath.

no one like me should be getting free tickets to the rock and roll hall of concert featuring u2 as the headliner. but see here….

here’s how it happened….my small group co-leader clarence asked me if i knew that free tickets were available online for the show; and would i be interested? and i was like….free?… interested?

in order to make msg seem fuller, they were giving away tickets behind the stage. the catch was that most of the show would be obscured by an obstruction but for the final act, it would be removed providing clear sightlines. now, i’ve sat behind the stage a few times and always had a great time; i’ve had to pay for those tickets…until now. i signed up and in a few hours, they confirmed my reservation.

i can feel q shaking his head in disgust.

i brought steph since she could get out in time to line up and because theresa is currently burnt out on her irish friends. the website scared us into not bringing cameras threatening to kick us out if we even had them. more brazen fans still brought them….and of course, they were allowed to use them. once again, the rule breakers win.

these are the crappy photos from my cheapo phone. steph’s phone doesn’t even have a camera. we are the last of the dinosaurs.

where we were seated was actually backstage and we saw stars and performers milling around. a lot of them waved to us so that was cool. as you can see, there was a big old wall that blocked us from seeing the first few acts including aretha franklin and metallica. they did set up a few screens for us to watch…and the music was clear…so we still had a good time.

but at the end, the wall was pulled back and we could see our boys…perform with bruce, mick, the black eyed peas and patti smith. a pretty short set and a bit disappointing because we heard the night before the other hall of famers kept playing deep into the night….but, listen to me… free u2 at the garden.with aretha and metallica opening. i will try to sound less entitled.

i’m sure q has gotten over it by now. besides, i helped him score ga tix for philly so i am not the only beneficiary of my strange mutant powers.
