OSCommerce – This cart is a little difficult to configure, especially if you’re not used to PHP and getting under the hood of an application. However, it is worth the extra effort and offers extensive features such as related item suggestion, which is great for add-on sales, and several modules are available to further extend it’s capabilities. The development community is fantastic for this cart and new modules are constantly being added. Most questions on installation can be answered in their forums.

Zen Cart – This cart is a bit easier to install and configure, but you will need basic HTML skills. If your hosting company offers Fantastico or a pre-installation, the process is even easier. One of the better features of this cart is that it is designed with your customers in mind, making it easier for them to shop. With shopping cart abandonment continuing to rise, this is an important consideration when selecting a shopping cart. While it is not as extensive as OSCommerce, this is still a solid shopping cart.

PHPShop – While this cart is not as widely used as the two above, the people who do utilize it have glowing reports on its ease of use and functionality. This cart is not often included by hosting companies, but you can download a copy from the website linked above and install it yourself. The process is straight forward, but a little knowledge of PHP is beneficial. You can even get help for your installation right on their site, which is always nice to see. This is one cart to watch as the developers on the project continue to work.

CubeCart – This cart is not free and carries a $69.95 price tag. The makers claim that over 1 million copies are in use and it certainly is a popular choice. Many people who prefer XHTML and CSS select this cart for its ability to merge well with an existing site design. Multiple currencies are supported and the template system makes it easy to pick a design you like, even if it doesn’t match your site. You will need to have some knowledge of PHP and MySQL to install this cart and configure it, but once it’s up and running, it’s well worth it.

MivaMerchant – If you’re looking to spend some serious money, MivaMerchant is very powerful. Some hosting companies do provide a free installation of this cart, valued at around $995. This cart is truly for an advanced business that needs a high powered solution. If your store has more than 100 products, or if you want advanced maintenance, customer care, and administration features, it’s definitely worth the expense. The company does offer MivaMerchantFastTrack for around $595, that has almost all of the features of the full version and this version would work well for smaller companies that don’t quite need all of the bells and whistles.

GoDaddy.com – This popular provider of cheap domain name registration and hosting services recently added domain name appraisals to their offerings. Appraisals start at just $4.95, and you’ll get your results in less than 2 hours. If you own a lot of domains, this is an economical solution. 5 critical factors are employed to determine the value of your domain, which according to their website are: Commercial Use, Brand Recognition, Name Length, Dot Value and Word Count. If you want an expert to appraise your domain name, the price goes up to $14.95 per domain and the wait time is currently around 2 days. This is still reasonable and can provide you with added insight into your prospects.

AccurateDomains.com – This company was recently featured by the BBC and is one of the few that actually offers a money back guarantee. They state that they have appraised over 100,000 domain names and have been used by everyone from Fortune 500 companies to regular individuals. The companies prestige carries with it a higher price tag for appraisals, but you do get what you pay for. Their standard appraisal starts at $27 for the first domain and the premier appraisal is currently priced at $87. The premier option is the only one that includes a written assessment, which is an important part of a successful domain name sale.

DomainMart.com – This company offers four different options for domain name appraisals, and they will give you a 50% discount on their services if you decide to use them as your transfer and escrow agent. A simple appraisal or a review of the domain name by your peers is $50 per domain. The standard time is 3 days for a response, but you can pay extra for 24 hour service. All of their reports are kept confidential, which is nice to see. This company also offers Liquidation Valuation and a Custom Consulting option, which starts at $200 per hour. If you have more than one domain name to appraise, they do offer discounts, which is a good thing considering the price tag.

NameZero.com – While this isn’t exactly a domain name appraisal service, it’s a great place to start and it won’t cost you a dime. You can join the community and get a free appraisal on your domain, as well as see what other domains are currently for sale. Special areas of their forums include legal issues and you’ll be able to search over 1.2 million posts on the subject of domain name sales. This is an invaluable resource and one that can’t be recommended highly enough, particularly if you are new to domain name appraisals, sales and auctions.

ADNAppraisals.com – This company is a little bit cheaper than the others listed above and uses a 4 point system to determine the value of a domain. Their standard service starts at $14.95 and the premium option is $49.95 a domain. They offer sample appraisals, a nice FAQ and ordering through PayPal or ClickBank. They will appraise domain names with several different extension types, which is nice to see, but whether or not they can compete with the other companies listed above will remain to be seen. An important component of a successful appraisal business is customer’s trust and in this industry, that’s a tough job.

Sedo.com – If you don’t mind waiting for your appraisal, Sedo offers reasonable pricing and a written response that can be used to market your domain. Currently, their standard appraisal is priced at $19 and the wait time is 7 business days. 5 factors are considered to determine the worth of a domain, but if you want a little more comprehensive analysis, their premium appraisal uses a 10 point system and is just $20 more. In addition, the premium appraisal service will get you a response in three business days, which is great if you’re in a hurry. If you own several domains, this company also offers a portfolio analysis service, but their price for this package was not available on their site.

All Reseller – The WR2 Plan starts at $19.95 a month and features 7 gigs of disk space, 60 gigs of monthly data transfer, unlimited MySQL database and much more. This is an NT-based reseller plan, but All Reseller also has several Unix-based reseller plans as well. Email support is offered and response times average about one hour. Toll-free telephone support is apparently coming soon.

BudgetReseller – For $10.95 a month, the BR103 Plan provides 2 gigs of disk space and 40 gigs of monthly data transfer. You can host up to 40 domains with this plan, which given the disk size, is reasonable. A three hour response time is guaranteed, and several features make this plan a great buy.

LMS Servers - The Reseller 3 Plan offers 15 gigs of disk space and 60 gigs of monthly data transfer for $39.99 a month. Ensim Pro is the control panel and Fireslayer (™) Anti Denial of Service Protection is offered as well as TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System. Unlimited MySQL databases, FTP accounts and email accounts are provided.

Elite Hosts – The Corporate Plan comes with 18 gigs of disk space, 100 gigs of monthly data transfer, private nameservers and advanced management tools for your clients for $39.95 a month. Fantastico and RVSkins are provided free of charge and numerous other features are included. Tech support is offered via their online ticket system.

Acenet – $29.95 a month will get you 10 gigs of disk space and 100 gigs of monthly data transfer with the Reseller Plan from Acenet. Their service is fantastic and this plan will provide you with control over SSL certificates, DNS zones, MX records and more. Numerous add-ons are offered free of charge and several incentives are included. This plan is one of the highest rated reseller plans in our directory.

HostEasier – This is a VPS plan, but would be suitable for a reseller. The price is currently $74.95 but you do get 30 gigs of disk space and 500 gigs of monthly bandwidth. CPanel, WHM and Fantastico are included free of charge. 1 gig of guaranteed RAM comes standard and several other advanced features are included.

Resellers Panel – The CPanel 3 Hosting plan is priced at $45 per month and offers 10 gigs of disk space, 100 gigs of monthly data transfer, unlimited domain hosting, a free client billing system and much more. Their plans start at 9.95 pounds or $17.95 per month and offer 5 gigs of disk space and 150 gigs of monthly data transfer, which is sure well worth the money in the US. A free domain and a free installation of Fantastico is included with this account, as well as some other very nice features.

FastHosts – The Fast5 plan starts at $24.95 per month and features 15 gigs of disk space and 150 gigs of monthly data transfer. Unlimited email accounts, subdomains and MySQL databases are offered and support is provided for numerous scripting languages. 24/7 technical support is available through their ticket system, instant messenger or live chat.

Lonex.com – This company recently announced several improvements to their hosting plans which start at less than $5 per month. They also offer reseller hosting, if you need this capability. Their business plan offers 15 gigs of storage and 300 gigs of monthly data transfer, making it one of the cheaper hosting plans available in the UK. Several other features are available, which we have detailed in our review.

Cool-Hosts – A new unlimited plan has been added to this host’s lineup of hosting plans. They also support Ruby on Rails and their prices are reasonably low. The Coral Plan starts at 10.00 Pound per year or $17.56 and the set-up fee is currently only 1 Pound. An online site builder is provided with most accounts, and the unlimited plan offers unlimited disk space, MySQL databases, bandwidth and more for 100.00 Euros or $175.76 per year.

Active24 – This company provides NT based hosting packages starting at .99 Pounds per year. Their business plan is a little more expensive at 7.95 Pounds per month but offers 2 gigs of disk space, a free domain name, a site builder a whole bunch of other features. A dedicated server with this company starts at around 270 Pounds a month. Technical support is offered through a live chat and an extensive self-help area is also provided.

xCalibre Hosting – This company has two locations, one in Britain and one in Scotland and offers a variety of different hosting options. The support is “legendary” according to the company and they will go the extra mile to make sure their customers are happy. Their shared plans start at 16.69 pounds per month and offer telephone support, 500 to 1.5 gigs of space and anywhere from 10 to 30 gigs of monthly data transfer.

UKFast – This award winning hosting company operates several data centers throughout Europe and is known as the UK’s best business host. They offer everything from shared hosting, to managed services to dedicated hosting packages. Unfortunately, they don’t list any prices for their hosting accounts. However, they do cater to businesses who need the assistance of a hosting company that can oversee just about all aspects of running their large, corporate site without any issues.

RackSlash – The RV V-Series 600 plan from RackSlash is priced at $45.50 per month and offers 10 gigs of disk space and 400 gigs of monthly data transfer. This company only permits 15 VPS’s per individual server, which is a nice feature and should make a difference when it comes to system resources. CPanel, WHM and Fantastico are all provided, free of charge.

GotWebHost – The Virtual 5C plan features 5 IP addresses, 5 Class C’s, and 5 different nameservers. The disk space and bandwidth allotments are a little low, at 2 gigs and 20 gigs respectively, especially for the monthly price of $79. You can choose between three different control panels and Fantastico is provided. You’ll even get 1 free hour of SEO advice when you sign up for a new account.

IX Web Hosting – For the budget price of $9.95 per month, IX Web Hosting’s Business Plan offers 20 gigs of data storage and 300 gigs of monthly data transfer. 5000 email and FTP accounts are offered, as well as 50 MySQL and MSSQL databases. The one-hour technical support guarantee is one of the best features of this plan, even though there are some downsides.

KnownHost – This is a newer hosting company and their VPS L Plan is competitively priced at $35 per month. 15 gigs of disk space and 300 gigs of monthly data transfer are offered as well as unlimited email addresses, MySQL databases and a bunch of other features. WebsiteHostingSource – http://www.webhostinginformation.net/website-hosting-source/ This plan is a little cheaper at $39.95 per month but it offers only 3 gigs of disk space and 120 gigs of monthly data transfer. On the plus side, a DDOS suite is provided free of charge as well as a firewall. The MivaEmpress shopping cart is an available add-on and there are a lot of other nice features that make up for the lack of disk space.

InMotionHosting – At $99.95, this is one of our most expensive VPS plans reviewed in our directory. It offers 15 gigs of disk space, 300 gigs of monthly data transfer, 256 megs of RAM; burstable up to 512, and a huge collection of “value apps” are provided. Not many extras other than this collection come with this plan.

JaguarPC – The Longhorn Plan from Jaguar offers support for Ruby and starts at $11.97 per month. 6 gigs of disk space, 180 gigs of monthly data transfer and unlimited email accounts, ftp accounts, MySQL databases and subdomains are offered. You’ll be able to edit your own DNS and MX records with this hosting plan and several other advanced features are included. 24/7 tech support is offered by phone, live chat, support tickets and email.

Apis Networks – The Basic Plan from Apis starts at $9.95 per month and offers 400 megs of disk space, 20 gigs of monthly data transfer, xdebug profiling, Urchin 5, easy installation of Ruby components via the control panel for your site and many other features. Support is a little limited, and Apis is upfront that hold times may be long for their phone support hotline, which is not toll-free. A 30-day money-back guarantee is offered and a support desk is provided, but the hours of operation were not noted on the site when this review was written.

TextDrive – You don’t hear about Ruby on Rails without hearing at least some mention of TextDrive. Their basic plans don’t allow development, but their business and dedicated options allow you a little more freedom. Most of their plans are well priced, and you’ll have the ability to do quite a bit when it comes to development. At least ten different CMS’s are offered with most of their hosting plans and a bunch of other nice features are thrown in as well.

Dream Host – The entry-level account from Dream Host starts at $7.95 per month and offers a unique method of calculating disk space. You’ll start with 20 gigs, but this number is increased by 160 megs each week, for as long as your account is active. The bandwidth allotment starts at 1 TB per month, and also increases by 8 gigs each week. 24/7 online support is offered and numerous other features are included with this account.
