Noticed change in your profile pic size?

Since last week, Facebook has started to roll out a small improvement to Facebook profiles, increasing the size of a user’s profile picture on their Timeline, a move that comes just days after Google updated Google+ profiles to sport a larger photo.

Previously, a photo measured 130 x 125 pixels, overlaying a user’s Timeline Cover image. The image is a smaller version of a user’s profile image, which can be displayed in full when a visitor clicks it.
However, Facebook’s profile images now measure 166 x 160 pixels.

This makes the image more prominent but it also takes up more of a user’s Timeline Cover, which will impact those that have uploaded a custom Cover that incorporates the profile image into it.

Last week, Google dropped a drastic Google+ redesign, completely overhauling the social network and giving it a much improved look. One of Google’s main changes was the profile page itself, copying Facebook’s Cover image idea but incorporating larger profile images so that users could identify the person they were adding into Circles or communicating with on the service.

Facebook also announced last week that it would merge Timeline URLs and Facebook email addresses, a link similar to how Google connects Google+ profiles and Gmail addresses.
If you have a unique Timeline design that relies on a smaller profile image, you may need to adapt it slightly if the redesign comes to your profile.

Facebook has made no indication as to why it has started displaying larger profile images, we have contacted the company to find out.

Google wishes Heinrich Hertz a “Happy Birthday”

Google in it’s Doodle for 22Feb wishes Happy Birthday to Heinrich Hertz, a renowned German Physicist who is well known for proving the existence of electromagnetic waves by engineering instruments.

The Google logo takes the form of electromagnetic waves (in Google colours - blue, red, yellow and green) to pay tribute to German physicist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz on his 155th birth anniversary. Hertz was born at Hamburg on February 22, 1857.

Hertz was the first to broadcast and receive radio waves. His pioneering work laid the way for the development of radio, television and radar.

The unit of frequency of a radio wave - one cycle per second - is named the hertz, in honour of Heinrich Hertz.

Google’s awesome Valentine’s Day doodle

On the Occasion of Valentine, Google’s new Doodle shows the story of a young boy who with the help of Google finds many ways to convince his beloved, but fails. At last after a numerous efforts, he made his Girl-friend play with him. Happy ending.

Google bounces back to it’s old black bar.

Google recently switched over to it’s primitive design i.e. Old black Google bar. The new bar which was designed with an aim to conserve the space of your screen which was taken by black strip is now taken back by developers of Google.

The next time when you’ll visit Google you’ll be welcomed by it’s native design.

As changes keep on going, I’m sure that very soon Google will be there with a new design.

Facebook has a new image slider

Facebook has updated its Image viewer today. Keeping away the native design, new viewer has comment functionality at the right side of the image. With a black colour background, this new feature shows like and tag button over image on mouse-over and same is case for next image. Have a look at it:

Mozilla Firefox 10.0, no longer a BETA

Today Mozilla officially released Firefox 10.0 (Not BETA) with a handful of improvements. It’s release-notes explain that most of the extensions and add-on which were compatible with earlier version are compatible with new version.

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), the biggest threat to free internet is now over after senators of U.S.Congress voted against the bill. This was only possible due to worldwide protest against this decision.

Well, decision on PIPA (Protect IP Act) will be taken in Senate on Monday.

Google celebrates it's new year 2012

Today's Google doodle can easily explain that Google is celebrating the coming of 2012 with enough energy and warmth.

Although 2012 has not arrived till now (it's 31 Dec 2011 6:56 PM in India) for some countries like India but everyone in the world is ready to celebrate.

Next time when you log-in to your Facebook account, you'll be welcomed by a message in which Facebook tells you it's source of income i.e. Facebook Ads.

When you click on "Get the details", it redirects you to given address and explain their source of income in detail. It also give a brief description of working of ads in flow-chart manner.

Seeing this, the only conclusion that can be made is Facebook wants people learn about advertising on Facebook

Google Chrome beats Explorer 8 hard

Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8, which one enjoyed the status of being most used browser over web is now beaten hard by fast growing popularity of Google Chrome. Internet Explorer 8 is no longer world's most used browser and Chrome showed it the way to downfall. IE8 faces a tough rival in form of Chrome.

However Chrome is not the most used browser at present but seeing it's growing popularity, it may lead the market in coming years.

According to stats by w3schools.com, Firefox is the current most used browser overtaking Chrome by 4.7% and is ready to compete with it's newly born competitor.

Facebook moved into its new headquarters.

Facebook shifts to it's new headquarters in Menlo Park on December19, 2011 as decided earlier.

The place was earlier the headquarters of Sun Microsystems, but Facebook has put a ton of work into it over the last nine months.

The company's real estate director John Tenanes said in a blog post this morning that Facebook ripped down all the cubicles and offices to encourage openness and collaboration, lined the walls with whiteboard paint for brainstorming sessions, and exposed the ducts on the ceiling to give the place an unfinished look and "remind us that our work is never done."

The courtyard outside is still filled with bulldozers and dirt, but eventually it will hold cafes, coffee shops, a health center, and onsite doctors.

Google Zeitgeist 2011 traces most searched topics on Google.

What mattered in 2011? Zeitgeist sorted billions of Google searches to capture the year's 10 fastest-rising global queries and the rest of the spirit of 2011.

Zeitgeist, studied the aggregation of billions of queries people typed into Google search this year. Using data from multiple sources, including Insights for Search and internal data tools. They also filter out spam and repeat queries to build the lists that best reflect the spirit of the times.
