We recently celebrated our first year online at hot.com.au, and while we've come a long way - we still haven't stopped trying to improve. Here are some of our most recent changes;

Faster service
Last week we completed our migration to a new website hosting solution which has dramatically decreased loading times to pages throughout the website. We noticed some of our pages were taking several seconds to be generated by our server, now most pages should be created in well under one second. But don't just take our word for it, have a look around hot.com.au and see for yourself!

Improved security
Hot.com.au has always taken security seriously, and invested in industry-standard SSL encryption to protect our secure pages, along with many other measures outlined within our security information page. The most recent improvement is obtaining an Extended Validation SSL certificate last week. This is currently the highest level of SSL technology available for websites. We have obtained an EV SSL certificate from the world's largest certificate authority, VeriSign, and now proudly display the VeriSign trusted seal on our information and checkout pages. In many modern browsers, you'll now notice a "green bar" on our secure pages - this is our EV SSL certificate in action, demonstrating our commitment to data security and information privacy.

Save time with the latest DVD and CD Duplicators

When you need to replicate a lots of optical discs (CDs, DVDs or Blu-Rays), the easiest way is with a dedicated disc duplicator. These standalone units allow you to insert a master disc (or 'burn' a disc image from a computer) and can then publish as many duplicates as you need. Cheaper devices only have one burning drive, whereas more advanced tower duplicators include multiple CD, DVD or Blu-Ray disc drives to speed up the copying process.

What is a disc duplicator?

It's like having a dedicated CD publisher or DVD publisher, with lots of automated features. Which means you don't have to constantly change over discs (put in a new blank disc, wait, take out the finished disc, put in a new blank disc, wait, take out the finished disc, etc. etc.) and lets you do more important things with your time.

Duplicators that can print and burn

Our two most popular brands of disc duplicator are Primera and XLNT Idea - who provide the popular Bravo and Nexis duplicator ranges, respectively. They both offer the ultimate time savers - copy and print duplicators which publish the disc and then print on the surface for you, all in the one unit!

The Primera Bravo units include the Bravo Pro XI which has one disc burning drive and 100 disc capacity, and the Bravo Pro XI 2 with two burning optical drives and 100 disc capacity. The XLNT Idea Nexis units include the Nexis Plus with one burning drive and 100 disc capacity, and the Nexis Pro which has two disc burning drives and 100 disc capacity.

Our cheapest CD and DVD Duplicator

The latest arrival from XLNT Idea is the Nexis BlackJack CD/DVD Duplicator - which is easily the most affordable duplicator we've ever carried. It holds 21 optical discs (CD or DVD) and does up to 6 colour printing on the disc surface. The BlackJack can publish up to 50 discs per hour and includes XLNT Idea's easy-to-use DiscWorks software. Definitely worth a look if you're considering your first duplicator!

Scanners Update - August 2010

Our most popular scanner since launching hot.com.au has been the Epson V700 Flatbed Scanner, and it's little surprise as to why. Canon as recently released a little portable document scanner and it is a little beauty. At under $500, the Canon P150 is ideal for Business trips and meetings away from the office where is important to have scanner equipment handy. The P150 is a portable scanner that can be folded down to just 42 x 282 x 98mm. Despite its remarkably small size, the Canon P-150 is a fully-functional duplex sheet-fed document scanner, capable of batch scanning up to 20 sheets at a time with a speed of 15ppm. The Canon P150 has a rear paper feed unclips and hinges up and out from the scanner's brick-link folded state. Guides fold out from the tray itself to support paper of any height and width up to A4. The main body of the scanner also hinges open to allow access to the feed roller and separation pad, which ensure the seamless feeding of scanned documents. These are consumable parts. You'll be prompted to replace the roller after 100,000 sheets have been scanned and the separation pad is good for 10,000 pages.
