A video game console from Nintendo (www.nintendo.com) introduced in 2006. Pronounced "wee," it runs Wii and GameCube software and features a wireless motion sensing controller that looks like a TV remote rather than a game controller. After a sensor bar is placed in front of the screen to orient the Bluetooth-based remote via infrared signals, the unit is strapped to the wrist and swung like a tennis racket, golf club or other sports equipment. Dubbed the "Wiimote," its internal accelerometers sense the motion on three axes, and up to four players can have their own controller. The speaker built into the device sounds a "thwack" when hitting the ball. Users were exuberant from the start. With thousands of consoles sold immediately, players found their wrist straps breaking and controllers flying across the room. Nintendo immediately improved the strap and offered everyone a replacement.

South Park exploded into the national consciousness in 1997, becoming the most popular, outrageous and controversial animated series to hit airwaves since Beavis and Butt-Head. The brainchild of creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park began in 1995 as a five-minute animated short commissioned by a Fox network executive and distributed throughout the industry as a video "Christmas card." The short, titled "The Spirit of Christmas," was endlessly dubbed as it passed hands throughout Hollywood, becoming an underground sensation; ironically, Parker and Stone -- fearing their depiction of hand-to-hand combat between Santa Claus and Jesus Christ would incense many viewers -- did not even add their names to the finished product to avoid controversy.

Jim Carey is a rubber-faced comedian in the Jerry Lewis mold. His work on the sketch comedy show In Living Color (1990-94) made Jim Carey a cult comedy figure; his starring role in the surprise hit Ace Ventura, Pet Detective (1994) made him a star. Carrey's crowd-pleasing style mixed juvenile slapstick with manic improvisation; by the late 1990's he became one of Hollywood's most popular (and best-paid) stars. Later films included Dumb and Dumber (1994), The Cable Guy (1996, with Matthew Broderick), and The Truman Show (1998, with Ed Harris). Jim Carey played comedian Andy Kaufman in the 1999 movie Man In the Moon, and in 2000 wore green makeup for a film based on the Dr. Seuss classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Although known primarily for his hit comedies such as Bruce Almighty (2003, co-starring Morgan Freeman), Jim Carey has also turned in dramatic performances. His other films include The Majestic (2001), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004, with Kate Winslet) and A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004, based on the books by Lemony Snicket).

A condom is a prophylactic sheath that is used to cover the male penis. It acts as a barrier to prevent sperm from entering a sexual partner, as well as to prevent transmission of disease-causing bacteria or microorganisms between partners during sexual activity. The first condoms, invented hundreds of years ago, were probably made of lambskin. Although effective in blocking sperm transmission, their relatively large pores did not impede the transmission of sexually transmitted infections. Most contemporary condoms are made of latex, which effectively impedes the transmission of both sperm and disease-causing agents.
