A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon is full and it passes through the Earth’s shadow, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Web site.

The Earth blocks the sun’s light from reaching the moon. The indirect sunlight still manages to reach the moon as it first passes through the Earth’s atmosphere, which filters out blue light, according to the Web site.

The remaining light is a deep red or orange.
Therefore, depending on the amount of dust and cloud cover in the Earth’s atmosphere during the eclipse, the moon can appear dark brown or red, to bright orange or yellow.

The last total lunar eclipse that was visible from the entire continental United States was Aug. 28, 2007, according to the Web site, and the next time North Americans will be able to see a total lunar eclipse will be Dec. 21, 2010.

The moon will begin to pass into the Earth’s shadow after 5:30 p.m., and the total eclipse will last from about 7 to 8 p.m.
In the late night hours of Feb. 20, 2008, a total lunar eclipse will dazzle the night sky. And this lunar eclipse may be worth staying up for, because it will be the last one until December 2010

Although the concept of search engine optimization can be somewhat complex, there are a number of basic search engine optimization techniques you can use to improve your organic search results. Keep the following in mind when trying to achieve top rankings for your website.

1. Meta Tags.
Include the title tag, keyword stag, description tag, and robots tag on each page.
Meta tags are simple lines of code at the top of your web page programming that tell search engines about your page.

2. Create and update your sitemap.
There are plenty of free software packages on the web that can help you generate a sitemap. Once you create a sitemap, submit it to Google and Yahoo. Developing a site map is a simple way of giving search engines the information they need to crawl your entire website.

3. Ensure that all navigation is in HTML.

Create your navigation in HTML to enhance internal links throughout your website, navigational items are in the form of java script. Even though navigation technically still works in this format, it's not optimized.

4. Check that all images include ALT text.
If you're not including your keywords in alt text, you're missing out on a huge opportunity for improved search engine result placements. Label all of your images properly. Your image's alt text is spidered by search engines!

5. Use Flash content sparingly.

Demand for the dollar down in daily auction

Demand for the dollar went down in the Iraqi Central Bank’s auction on Monday, the first session this week after the Army Day holiday, registering at $142.970 million compared to $181.280 million on Thursday.

"The demand hit $16.40 million in cash and $126.930 million in money transfers outside the country, all covered by the bank at a stable exchange rate of 1,215 Iraqi dinars per dollar, unchanged for the third session in a row," according to the central bank's daily bulletin which was received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The banks participating in the auction offered to sell $4.200 million, which the bank bought at an exchange rate of 1,213 Iraqi dinars per dollar.
Demand for the dollar was at a record high in the Iraqi Central Bank's auction on Thursday, reaching $181.280 million, the highest in its history.

The Iraqi Central Bank runs a daily auction from Sunday to Thursday.

Iraq opens doors to foreign oil companies to boost output

Iraq has invited foreign companies to bid in the country's first exploration and production license round since the U.S. invasion in 2003. Companies have until Jan. 31 this year to submit documents to pre-qualify to drill the world's third-largest crude oil reserves.

Iraq has an estimated 115 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, placing it behind Saudi Arabia and Iran. The country is aiming to boost production to 4 million barrels a day by 2009, but the lack of security and the government's failure to pass a federal energy law have deterred international oil companies.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Total SA are reportedly bidding to develop the Akkas gasfield in Anbar province, northwest of Baghdad. However, Ivanhoe Energy, frequently covered by RI (see our coverage in June, April and March of 2007), hopes to co-develop an oilfield in North Central Iraq with Japan's Inpex Corp.

Ivanhoe believes the field is suitable for its heavy-oil upgrading technology. David Martin, Executive Co-Chairman of Ivanhoe Energy, admitted that almost every oil field in Iraq contains over 1 billion barrels, and it would probably be “safe to assume” the same here.

Iraqi Oil

Iraq has potential oil reserves in excess of 215 billion barrels and proven reserves in the region of 115 billion barrels, which puts close to that of Saudi Arabia. Its exploration and development costs are amongst the lowest in the Middle East.

However, Iraq’s oil production has historically not matched its oil reserve capability, and maximum production in any one year has never exceeded 3.5 million barrels per day (bpd), despite an exploration and development history stretching over nearly eight decades.

According to the International Energy Agency, Iraq, a member of OPEC, currently produces about 2.2 bpd, with hopes of moving towards production of 4 million bpd.

Leon Daniel, Deputy Chairman of Ivanhoe Energy said, less than 20% of the potential oil properties in Iraq have been developed.

He said about 52% of the remaining oil reserves in the country were below 28 gravity, “which they consider to be heavy,” with quite a bit below 20 gravity. “They don’t have the refineries” to handle this type of oil, he added.

Robert Abboud, Independent Co-Chairman and Lead Director for Ivanhoe Energy, said the company will closely monitor the development of the new petroleum law now in Iraqi parliament.

The overall objectives of the draft petroleum law are to optimize Iraq’s oil and gas exploitation, maximize return and unite the country. The law is investment friendly, and welcomes international oil companies to work in partnership with the Iraq National Oil Company.

Abboud said “prevailing in the bidding process is critical,” but with a Japan’s largest oil & gas developer, Ivanhoe is confident the companies will be recognized as front runners.

Iraq seeks to "compromise" with Kuwait on the issues of debt and reparations

Said Iraqi Vice President Tariq Hashimi Wednesday that he discussed with the Kuwaiti leadership the issue of a "compromise" on the debt of Iraq's invasion and reparations for the Iraqi invasion of the country, estimated at tens of billions of dollars.

Hashemi said in an interview with reporters, "Any compromise solution satisfactory to both parties is a good, We are not dropping compensation."

He added, in this context, "Rajai presented to His Highness Prince (..) to reconsider this question and the answer is good but there Kuwaiti constitutional contexts in this regard," referring to the National Council.

Hashemi said that he had asked Kuwait to assist the possibility of reducing the amounts deducted from the proceeds of Iraqi oil for the benefit of the United Nations Compensation Fund.

Hashemi said "5% amount is too large in light of high oil prices and the state in Iraq with a very large projects in infrastructure, services and budget Iraq is not enough."

Hashemi said that agreement had been reached to set up a joint technical committee between the two countries to discuss such matters and that the Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari will discuss these topics also in the course of his visit to Kuwait, which begins next Sunday.

Received government and the private sector in Kuwait, so far 11 billion dollars from Baghdad for the Iraqi invasion of the oil-rich Gulf state in 1990 from the 41.3 billion dollars approved so far to the Compensation Commission in the United Nations.

Kuwait had demanded compensation of up to 178 billion dollars and demands made to the Commission, which was formed in 1991 far the liberation of Kuwait.

Kuwaiti deputies had warned the government of the consequences of a waiver for any of these awards waved interrogate the government if what was done.

But Kuwait agreed in 2004 to an American request to reduce Iraq's debt owed to them enormously and estimated to be worth 16 billion dollars.

We know that to be a successful blogger, you need to have original content. Anyone could tell you that. What else does it take though? You not only need to give on your blog, but you need to give through the blogging community.

Bloggers search through a lot of other blogs for sources of topics. This should be in any bloggers lists of things to do when they get up and are preparing to write. I have well over 100 RSS feeds I am subscribed to, and I check each and everyone for updates.

When I’m checking I don’t just look, but I try to comment as well. What has this blogger said right? What do I have opposing opinions on? Let them have it! Occasionally, I come across some great entries. What do I do? They deserve the attention, so I post a link to it on my own blog. This will drive traffic to them, and who knows, they may end up enjoying your blog and sending a link back to you.

I think showing appreciation of what another blogger has written is extremely important. There are so many smaller blogs out there that need appreciation. I will write them a comment; I encourage them to keep writing. I think what we should all do, is encourage other bloggers by clicking their ads as well. If I come to a newer blog, which has just written something I couldn’t pass up, I will usually click one or two of their Adsense ads. It gets me ecstatic to see 2 or 3 new clicks on my ads, so I really understand how any new blogger would feel about this.

If you come across an amazing blog, encourage them:

* Forward traffic there with a review of their entry
* Click an add or two
* Sign-up under one of their affiliates

The issue about global warming rages around us and blankets our lives with its facts and fiction.

It is influenced through propaganda from both sides. Why? Each side has an agenda that seems to be backed up by facts. There is some extremely laughable information available on the internet and there is also plausible information. It is up to us to understand what applies to our daily actions and what we can do about global warming.

It is all around us. It is on the weather stations. It faces us when we decide to purchase a new car or even a cleaning product. The real issues come when trying to learn about global warming. There is a lot of conflicting information on the internet and there is not one group that can agree on all aspects of the global warming debate.

Over the past century, with out a doubt, global temperatures have risen. While the rise in temperature has been only a degree or so, the concern is whether the Earth's temperatures will continue to rise and what impact that will have on the environment. The controversy about the warming of the earth is a result of conflicting evidence.

The fact that global warming also occurred in the prehistoric era is a scientific point. Some think a large meteor hitting the planet caused an big change in the earth's temperature. Is that what killed the dinosaurs? Science cannot prove this conclusively yet. The political and industrial lobbies further complicate conversations about global warming. The contention of these groups is that, we currently do not know enough about the effects of global warming to limit industrial emissions.

When will we know the full facts about global warming and will the global warming issue be resolved anytime soon? Unfortunately the answer is no. There will continue to be studies performed and there will always be a measure of doubt clouding the minds of citizens around the world. Perhaps, when enough data comes through, we will be able to make a determination based on scientific fact rather than theory. Until then we can continue to monitor the progress of scientists and try to do our part in conserving the environment.

We have all heard the horrific predictions of Global Warming.

You know things like the ocean will rise and everyone will drown and the rest will burn up from the Sun Heat. But did you know Global Warming is causing Illegal Immigration? This is what many Democrat Candidates are now saying. This is because with Global Warming crops will fail in Mexico, they will run out of Fresh Water and the Super Storms will annihilate their lands.

Thus they will have no where to go except to come to the United States and they will come in droves. Currently, there are 30 million illegal aliens in the US says the organizers of Los Angeles May Day Demonstration the night before the riot in LA on that Communist Holiday. Will Global Warming push our nation over the edge during the next riot as the Global Warming heats up tempers and temperatures?

What happens when Mexico gets so hot that they cannot live there and decide to come here instead? That would be 150 million people additional in the United States. Can we take it? And who is going to pay for everyone's health care? So far 80 hospitals have closed in California alone due to budget problems from illegal aliens. With Global Warming all the hospitals will close and our government will go broke.

And all this will happen because you drive an SUV say the Democrats and they so much want you to believe that and buy into all this doom and gloom. DOOOOM! Say it everyday and believe in it, they are hoping it will be enough to control your minds and your motions. So are you going to vote for more of this non-sense? Global Warming is basically the increase of the earth’s average temperature and its projected continuation in the coming years.

The unprecedented super-accelerated rate of global warming happening today is supposedly due to the amount of greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere.

The increase in global temperature could cause many side effects including sea level rise and drastic changes to the pattern of precipitation resulting in floods and drought. As the Earth's average temperature rises, effects in its landmasses and sea water level become apparent. Polar ice caps melt along with glaciers, contributing to higher and warmer sea levels. By the end of the century, it is estimated that sea levels can increase from 4 inches to a high of about 40 inches if global warming continues unabated.

Currently, there in an ongoing political debate on what action, if any, should be taken to help lower the chance of global warming. How these measures will fare and contribute to the long-term maintenance of our planet, though, remains to be seen.

In fact, since he has an 'R' in each of his names, he almost always is under the influence of a 'RR' transit letter.

His current Transit letters are 'RRGR'. They began on his birthday in 2005, and end on his birthday in March 2008.

His transit letters of 'RRR' which I treat as double 'R' mark a time of ending relationships and frustrating delays in his life. In fact the double 'R' will continue for Gore for some years to come. I would say this is a clear indication that Al Gore's call for action on fixing Global Warming will see many delays through the next few years. I look for very little to be accomplished on this front.

His transit letter of 'G' marks a time when he will be secretive about his affairs, but it will also be a good period for Gore financially. I would venture to say that the cause of Global Warming will raise a great deal of money in the next (2) years. People will respond with dollars, even if the path to change will be slow.

Finally, in March 2008, Gore will gain a Transit letter 'J' for the last year of his old Life Cycle. The 'J' marks some major change in his life. He will experience indecision and his finances will take a major upswing in 2008. Could this represent a call to action by the Democratic Party either as a candidate, or behind the scenes is some fashion?

2006 is a personal year (6) for Al Gore. This is a year when his home life and various task make unusually large demands on his time. Gore will assume new task more easily than he usually does. This speaks well for the success of 'An Inconvenient Truth.' It appears that that movie will get the public to respond and bring real attention to the problem of Global Warming.

In summation, I would predict success for Al Gore's message about Global Warming reaching America as a whole, but a long and frustrating battle to get our Nation to change it's spots and act to combat the problem. Also, I would predict that Gore will have some strong role in the 2008 presidential election, if not as a candidate, as a surrogate for the Democratic party. He has some definite task that he will be called on to take up in March 2009, though what it is I could not guess.

Whenever I mention my blog people roll their eyes or smile in an “I don’t understand but okay” sort of way. When I mention the fact that I make money blogging, however, I suddenly have their attention.

The concept seems simple enough. I write about topics that I enjoy, people read it, and I make money off the advertising. To those of us who’ve been doing it for a while, it is simple. To the novice blogger who’s just getting into the business, however, it’s important to realize what you’re getting into.

If you’re new to blogging and interested in doing it for profit, here are a few things to keep in mind before committing yourself.

1. Blogging is easy. Blogging for profit is more difficult. I won’t go as far as to say it’s hard to draw a secondary income from blogging, but it’s definitely harder than most people think. It’s not just about producing content and slapping up some ads. Good writing, proper templating, ad placement, developing an audience… there are a lot of skills required to make a blog profitable, all of which you’ll need to learn.
2. Blog for the long haul or not at all. A huge majority of blogs fail in the first few months, falling into neglect and disuse. More to the point, few blogs see any profit during the first few months. Unless you can stick with it for at least a year, you’ll probably never see any return for your effort.
3. Pick a niche that you love and stick with it. General purpose or multi-topic blogs have difficulty developing a readership. Brainstorm the topics that you care about most, then pick one and blog about it exclusively.
4. Start with one blog. If you have a lot of items on your list of possible topics, don’t give in to the temptation to start a different blog for each one. By dividing your effort between several blogs, you increase the likelihood that all of them will fail. Put all of your effort into one blog to start. Once you get the hang of things, then you might consider branching out with additional blogs.
5. If you’re unsure, test drive. The fact is that many people don’t have the drive or stamina to blog for profit successfully. If you’re not sure, try a starter blog on a free service such as Blogger or Wordpress.com. Feel it out for a few weeks. If, by the end of this time, you’ve stuck with it and feel like blogging is right for you, go ahead and commit to the effort. This advice applies equally well to test driving new topics if you’re unsure what to write about.
6. Place ads wisely. Some people recommend not placing ads on a blog until it has matured somewhat. Others recommend putting them up right away. There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. Just be sure to place your ads tactfully so as not to overwhelm your readers. Put the user experience in the first place.
7. Enjoy yourself. This is the real key to successful blogging. If you pick a topic that you love and blog about it with passion for months and years on end, your blog will build a readership, generate income, and generally be a success. If, however, your blog becomes a chore to maintain, it will inevitably fail.
The main point I want to convey is that many people try to blog for profit and fail. If you approach the task with the right expectations and some proper planning, you will succeed.

Indonesia is ramping up for a giant tourism year in 2008. The Indonesian government launched Visit Indonesia Year 2008 on Wednesday and hopes are high that this campaign can get the tourist sector to the next level. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.

The government officially launched Visit Indonesia Year 2008 on Wednesday, with the main aim of luring up to 7 million foreign tourists and booking US$6.4 billion in foreign exchange income.

To help reach the target, the government is setting aside $15 million for a domestic and international advertising blitz.

“The budget will be used to finance the promotion campaign, especially abroad,” Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik told a media conference before the grand launch of the program, which will be the second for the country.

The government held its first Visit Indonesia program in 1991, which was not particularly successful, increasing the number of foreign tourists by merely 400,000 from the year earlier, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

BPS data show that in 1991, around 2.5 million foreign tourists visited the country, from 2.1 million in the previous year.

This year, foreign tourist arrivals are expected to hit 5.5 million, well short of the 6 million targeted.

Jero said the ministry had so far bought advertising time on several international television channels.

However, the larger portion of the money will be used to finance international forums, where it can effectively introduce and promote the program.

Thamrin B.Bachri, the ministry’s director general, added that such forums would be held mainly in countries which traditionally provided the most tourists for Indonesia, such as Australia, Singapore, Malaysia Korea and China.

“These international promotion programs will take the biggest portion of the budget allocation.”

Wednesday’s grand launch was highlighted by performances from Indonesian singers such as Ruth Sahanaya, Rossa and pop band Ungu.

Last week, the ministry had to revise its tourism slogan when it was pointed out it was grammatically incorrect. “Celebrating 100 years of nation’s awakening” was changed to “100 years of national awakening”.

Garuda Indonesia was forced to repaint 10 planes servicing international routes that had already been daubed with the slogan.

Next year the ministry is set to organize more than 100 international events and cultural festivals across the country. (ndr)

In the past there have been complaints about the lack of a coordinated marketing effort for the Indonesian tourism industry. The fact that people flock to Bali, Sulawesi and other places being due more to the efforts of private companies than ant national industry marketing. This new campaign got off to a stuttering start with grammar errors in the logo’s tag line. However that sorts itself out the fact remains that Indonesia offers unique cultures, tremendous bio-diversity, fabulous opportunities for adventure and all the creature comforts a short term tourism could hope for. Getting that across to more people will be the challenge, but its one that is possible.

FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2008, will take place in Austria and Switzerland, from 7 to 29 June 2008.

It is the second in a series of three successful joint bids in the competition's history, alongside the UEFA Euro 2000, hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands and the 2012 competition in Poland and Ukraine.

A total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament. Austria and Switzerland will automatically qualify as hosts; The remaining 14 teams have been determined through qualifying matches which started in August 2006. Austria and Poland will be making their first appearance in the tournament. The winner of Euro 2008 will represent the UEFA at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.

The global average air temperature near the Earth's surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 100 year period ending in 2005, which is higher than the earlier estimate of 0.6 ± 0.2 °C for the period ending in 2000.^[1] The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations"^[1] via the greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward.^[2]^[3] These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. While individual scientists have voiced disagreement with some of the main conclusions of the IPCC, the overwhelming majority of scientists working on climate change are in agreement with them.^[4]

Climate model projections summarized by the IPCC indicate that average global surface temperature will likely rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) during the 21st century.^[1] The range of values results from the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions as well as models with differing climate sensitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. The delay in reaching equilibrium is a result of the large heat capacity of the oceans.^[1]

Increasing global temperature will cause sea level to rise, and is expected to increase the intensity of extreme weather events and to change the amount and pattern of precipitation. Other effects of global warming include changes in agricultural yields, trade routes, glacier retreat, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.

Remaining scientific uncertainties include the amount of warming expected in the future, and how warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe. There is ongoing political and public debate worldwide regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
