A lot of attention and energy is surely focused on same sex marriage and marriage equality but just because members of the LGBT Community are able to profess their love legally, it certainly does not mean we are invincible. Early this morning, the third tragic hate crime against a member of the LGBT Community resulted in the horrifying and supremely biased murder of Mark Carson on 6th Avenue and 8th Street. THIS HAS GOT TO END! We have to stand up for ourselves because we are The LGBT Community and we need to FIGHT BACK!

Join an incredible list of LGBT organizations on Monday, May 20th at 5:00pm in front of The LGBT Community Center on West 13th Street. The March is partly organized by Christine Quinn and your presence is DEMANDED! Get there early and get connected and get FIRED UP!

Following a string of heinous bias attacks against gay men, including the horrific murder of a 32-year-old man on Friday night, community members, elected officials, LGBT community leaders and allies will march to the site of Friday’s shooting and demand an end to hate crimes against the LGBT community and to reclaim NYC for all New Yorkers.

Flashback: An Entirely Different Kind of Mother Love Professed in 1998 Goldie Opus

Back in 1998, during the illicit heyday of the rhtymically and sonically gorgeous drum n bass era of electronic music, the man that everyone wished they could be but could never touch was Goldie. I certainly didn’t own every release that bore his name, but his double CD Saturnzreturn had an epic track on the second disc called “Mother” (Saturnz Return) that clocked in slightly over sixty minutes. The track starts with a calming hiss that elevates gently but purposefully into a masterful orchestration of strings. Each emotion and revelation is so universal yet so succinct accompanied by a further deluge into technological wizardry and boundary shoving syncopations. It is the creation of the universe tightly and majestically captured in an hour’s time.

It’s a shame that the brilliant drum n bass movement somewhat came to a halt soon after this release. For obvious commercial reasons, the style was not accessible to a wide audience and failed to garner respect from musicians around the world. Often jarring and uncomfortable to listen to, these were the types of tracks that true electronic music lovers held most sacred. True masterpieces and journeys within the power of sound were certainly created and remain superior moments in the modern music universe.

It is Mother’s Day today and although some of us have lost their mother’s or some of us still have a mother to call, to hold, to kiss or to surprise with a bouquet of flowers, Mother Earth is still the reason we are alive and the Universe the reason she eventually became fertile enough to give birth over and over and over again. Take an hour our of your day today or tomorrow or sometime towards the end of the coming week to enjoy this beautiful piece of recorded music. I guarantee you’ll come back to thank us…right after you thank your mother.

This week, the world lost an icon. Peter Rauhofer, DJ and producer and fixture in the gay club scene and beyond for almost two decades, lost his battle with brain cancer and left the world peacefully at home. DJ Eddie Andrews has compiled a mixset featuring some of his favourite Rauhofer remixes and has woven a superb tribute to the nightlife giant. Peter Rauhofers music has been a staple in the electronic dance music community for years. His originals and remixes have ignited dance floors since the 90′s. A Grammy award winner and pioneer of the EDM world sadly lost his battle with cancer on May 7th 2013. i remember one of the first vinyl records and one of my personal favorites was “the underground” featuring Celeda. we will never forget Peter and he will live forever through his music and through all of us. i have compiled a mix of some of my favorite Rauhofer originals and remixes. every dollar i receive from sales of this set will be donated to the American Cancer Society. so please, buy this set and tell your friends, and your friends friends to help this cause— we love you and will miss you terribly Peter……but we will NEVER forget you.

Bright Light Bright Light is the moniker of Welsh-born Rod Thomas, a singer, writer, producer and DJ that NME have called “the boy Robyn in all but name”.

September 2010′s debut single ‘Love Part II’ (Popjustice Hifi / Virgin) was a taster of what Rod has been working on for his debut album ‘Make Me Believe In Hope’ with the likes of Andy Chatterley (Kylie / Nerina Pallot), Boom Bip (Neon Neon) and The Invisible Men (Jessie J). Drawing influence from the late 80s and early 90s, Rod has crafted a brand of shimmering electro-pop that nods to Depeche Mode, Bjork, Yazoo and Ace of Base. Mixing a love of classic songwriting with a love of the dancefloor, Attitude Magazine describes him as “Creator of emotional disco moments that only Kylie or Robyn can normally provide.”

He opened for Ellie Goulding on her 2010 ‘Lights’ tour, and has played alongside Sound Of Arrows and Monarchy, as well as at South By Southwest, and later this year will appear at Bestival. He’s remixed the likes of Ellie Goulding, Nerina Pallot and James Yuill, written songs with some of his favourite producers and also runs ‘Another Night’ clubnight in London where he and a fellow Neath export spin the best 1990s dance cuts.

AB’s early background as a professional dancer and fashion designer informs his work as the artist he is today – all of AB’s work is original and self produced; choreography, lyric, styling and design.

We have all heard the term ‘fashion forward’ but this takes that term to an entirely new height. the days of the android and the cyborg have certainly begun to enter our reality and it is wonderfully inspirational that designers are pushing their own mental and creative walls and taking that which decorates our bodies into a zone that is uncategorizable. the title alone is brilliant. take a look! courtesy of dezeen

Intimacy by Studio Roosegaarde and V2_

Intimacy is a project by Daan Roosegaarde, Maartje Dijkstra, Anouk Wipprecht, V2_ Lab (Simon de Bakker, Stan Wannet, Piem Wirtz) and the team of Studio Roosegaarde (Peter de Man, João Carneiro).

These dresses by Dutch designers Studio Roosegaarde and V2_ become transparent when approached.

Called Intimacy, the garments are made of electically-sensitive foils that become opaque or transparent according to alterations in current.

Intimacy Black (above and below) is made from strips of black material that turn transparent as another person gets closer, while Intimacy White (top) varies in transparency depending on the wearer’s own interactions with the dress.

The two dresses will be exhibited at Centraal Museum Utrecht from 22 September.

Intimacy is a fashion project about the relation between intimacy and technology.

Its high-tech garments ‘Intimacy White’ and ‘Intimacy Black’ are made out of interactive technologies and smart e-foils which become transparent based on personal interactions.

Here social interactions determine the level of transparency; creating a sensual play of disclosure.
