        <title><![CDATA[Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Elected to South Asian Bar Association of Houston Board]]></title>

        <description><![CDATA[<div align="left"><p><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="2"><strong>Houston, Texas (August 5, 2011)</strong> -- Two attorneys in the Houston office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP have been elected to the 2011--2012 board of the South Asian Bar Association (SABA) of Houston. Shareholder Annapoorni “Anna” Sankaran is now president-elect and Associate Neeraj “Neil” Verma is secretary. <br /><br />SABA Houston is the local chapter of the national organization, the North American South Asian Bar Association (NASABA). SABA Houston and NASABA provide South Asian lawyers with a forum for professional growth and advancement and focuses on the legal needs of the South Asian community. Both Sankaran and Verma have had active roles in NASABA, as Sankaran was the 2010-2011 president of the organization and Verma was a 2010-2011 board member and 2011 election commissioner.<br /><br />“As an organization, SABA is committed to the advancement and development of South Asian legal professionals,” Sankaran said. “We focus on educating the community about relevant legal issues, and work to expand and enhance business and professional opportunities for South Asians in the area.”<br /><br />The group also promotes a more unified Houston as well as increased participation of South Asians in civic affairs and government and facilitates the exchange of information and ideas, according to Sankaran.<br /><br />Sankaran is a commercial litigator with additional experience in bankruptcy, bankruptcy litigation and intellectual property litigation. She has trial and appellate experience before federal and state courts and has handled class actions and other complex litigation. She received her J.D. from Boston University School of Law and B.A. from Boston University.<br /><br />Verma focuses his practice on corporate and securities, litigation and bankruptcy matters and has worked on India-related commercial litigation and transactional matters. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and B. The South Asian Bar Association (SABA) of Southern California co-hosted the convention, which ran from June 23-­26, 2011 and was themed “Reaching for the Stars.” The convention featured headliners like Rich Verma, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Attorneys networked and learned from a diverse group of panelists, ranging from the Public Policy Director of the Arizona ACLU to a California Assemblyman who was the founder of the largest Minuteman chapter in California. <br /></font></font></font></span><p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;text-align:justify;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial;"><a href="http://www.nasaba.com/"><br /><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" color="#000000">NASABA</font></a><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" color="#000000"> is the principal voice for legal issues in the South Asian community and a diverse voice for the community at large.
