This will help you a lot in understanding Elliptical and Rectangular Marquee tool very well. Photoshop Techniques |Perfect Circles and Squares: You can make a perfect circle with elliptical marquee tool or a perfect square with rectangular marquee tool in two ways. First one is by setting the style to fixed ratio and filling the ratio boxes with 1:1. The second way you can do it is an easy one. Hold down shift key and make selection, it is important that you release the shift key after completing selection otherwise you will not be able to get a perfect selection. Photoshop Techniques | Options made easy: We have already seen how the options are used in Marquee tools. Now we will see how we can do it by using keyboard. If you want to add to the selection, hold down shift key and make another selection which you want to add to existing selection. If you want to subtract from selection, hold down Alt key and select the area you want to deselect. If you want to intersect with the selection, hold down Shift+Alt and make the desired selection. Photoshop Techniques | Deselect , Move and delete: To deselect the selection already made, press Ctrl+D. You can move your selection by your keyboard arrow buttons. You can also do it by first bringing the cursor within the boundaries and then holding down right mouse button and move the selection. If you want to move the selected pixels of the layer select move tool first then move the selected pixels to desired area. If you are in the process of making a selection and realize that it should be moved to some other place you can hold Space key and move it while making selection. Release Space key and continue selection. If you want to delete the selected pixels of the layer, you can simply do it by pressing Backspace or Delete key on the keyboard. Use these Photoshop techniques as specified and you will not experience any problem. Hope you found these Photoshop Techniques useful and gained some knowledge about how to use Photoshop tools in this basic Photoshop tutorial.

Photoshop Tools | Magnetic Lasso Tool We are continuing from the last Photoshop Tools Tutorial about Lasso Tool. We are carrying on our journey to learn how to use Photoshop and how to Photoshop photos properly. We shall learn how to use Photoshop’s Magnetic Lasso Tool in today’s tutorial. Magnetic Lasso Tool is really an amazing selection tool in Adobe Photoshop. It makes perfect selection if it is used properly. You have to hover your cursor around the borders of your object. Magnetic lasso tool will automatically find the edges of your object by the difference of colors of edges and background. It will work more accurately if the difference between colors of background and object is bigger. If there is a minor difference between colors then the accuracy may drop but the change of settings may still increase the performance. Magnetic Lasso Tool | Selection Lets make a selection with Magnetic Lasso Tool… Press L key on the keyboard to select Lasso tool and then press Shift + L two times to select Magnetic Lasso Tool. You can also directly select it from the toolbox. Create first anchor point from where you want to start selecting your object. Keep creating anchor points on the border of the object until you reach to the first point. Lastly click on the first anchor point to make the selection. See how accurate and perfect the selection is made. This is the magic of Magnetic Lasso Tool. Now if Move Object: If you want to Move your object click V key on the keyboard and move the object wherever you want. You can also use arrow keys on the keyboard for this purpose. Now you can move, copy, cut, delete or whatever you want to do with your selection. Magnetic Lasso Tool | Options There are some options in magnetic lasso tool options bar which can be altered according to the requirements. Option highlighted with orange color is frequency which indicates how frequently you want to use the anchor points while selecting. Contrast option is highlighted in green. Contrast tells Photoshop that how much contrast should be regarded as a border of the object. Option highlighted with red is for changing pen width by using tablet pressure. Pen Width option (highlighted in blue) tells the Photoshop about the area in which it has to look for the borders of the object. How to Photoshop | Extra Other options works same as explained in the previous tutorials. Photoshop Tips and Techniques for Magnetic Lasso Tool are shared in Photoshop Tips and Technique section of How to Photoshop.

How to Photoshop | Use Lasso Tool Lasso tool is selection tool available in Adobe Photoshop. We will now see how to use lasso tool to select area in our image. In learning how to Photoshop this is our continuing tutorial in the section of Photoshop Tools Tutorials. We previously talked about Rectangular Marquee Tool and Pen Tool in detail in the Photoshop Tools Tutorial section. Basically there are three Types of Lasso Tools. Lasso Tool Polygonal Lasso Tool Magnetic Lasso Tool The image below shows the location and types of Lasso Tools. Lasso Tool: Lasso tool is a free hand selection tool and is very easy to use. The shortcut key forselecting Lasso Tool is L key on the keyboard. If you want to select any object or area you can hold mouse button and drag mouse around the object or shape you want to select. Its same like drawing a shape once you close your shape and free the pressed mouse button the selection is done. Polygonal Lasso Tool: Polygonal lasso tool is used for straight sided area selection. Press Shift+L to change from Lasso Tool to Polygonal Tool To select area… Create a new anchor point as a start point by clicking left mouse button. Click left mouse button whenever you want to create a new anchor point. Join your last anchor point to the first anchor point to close the area. You can see your selection is made! Some of the Photoshop Tips and Techniques about Lasso Tool are given in the Tips and Techniques section. There are differences between Lasso Tool and Polygonal Lasso Tool. The use of both tools is different. Polygonal tool can be used effectively where we need a polygonal selection. We use anchor points in Polygonal lasso tool as compared to simple lasso tool. Magnetic Lasso tool will be discussed in next tutorial…
