			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>jQuery is a JavaScript library that lets you easily create highly interactive, responsive and dynamic web pages. One of the greatest advantages of using jQuery is the ability to make Ajax calls with it. In this tutorial we&#8217;re going to learn how to make Ajax calls with jQuery.</p>
<p>With Ajax you can update content of various sections of your web page without having to manually refresh the web page using your browser button. You can even submit forms and show the result without going to the next page. In most cases, an Ajax call requires:</p>
<ul>
<li>An event that triggers the Ajax call</li>
<li>A JavaScript function (in this case a jQuery function) that makes the Ajax call</li>
<li>An external file that responds to the call</li>
<li>A web page element that shows the result of the Ajax call</li>
</ul>
<p>Let&#8217;s first create the initial web page that makes a simple Ajax call to print a string.</p>
<div class="code">
&&lt;html&gt;<br />&lt;head&gt;<br />&lt;title&gt;Making Ajax calls with jQuery&lt;/title&gt;<br />&lt;script language=&#8221;javascript&#8221; src=&#8221;jquery-1.3.2.min.js&#8221;&gt;&lt;/script&gt;<br />&lt;script language=&#8221;javascript&#8221;&gt;<br />function click_function()<br />{<br />&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;$(&#8217;#show_stuff&#8217;).load(&#8217;file-with-action.php&#8217;);<br />}<br />&lt;/script&gt;<br />&lt;/head&gt;<br />&lt;body&gt;<br />&lt;form&gt;<br />&lt;input type=&#8221;button&#8221; value=&#8221;click this to make Ajax call&#8221; onclick=&#8221;click_function();&#8221;&gt;<br />&lt;/form&gt;<br />&lt;div id=&#8221;show_stuff&#8221;&gt;&lt;/div&gt;<br />&lt;/body&gt;<br />&lt;/html&gt;
</div>
<p>As you can see, you need to include the jQuery file in order to use it. Then we&#8217;ve simply created a button that you need to click in order to print “Hello!” on the screen. For the onclick function we&#8217;ve defined a click_function. The onclick function appears like this:</p>
<div class="code">
&lt;script language=&#8221;javascript&#8221;&gt;<br />function click_function()<br />{<br />&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;$(&#8217;#show_stuff&#8217;).load(&#8217;file-with-action.php&#8217;);<br />}<br />&lt;/script&gt;
</div>
<p>jQuery uses the $ sign to represent the various functions it allows you to execute. This function simply puts the output of “file-with-action.php” in the “show_stuff” div.</p>
<p>file-with-action.php doesn&#8217;t have to be this simple. It can execute the most complicated algorithm and print the result accordingly.</p>
<p>The real fun of making Ajax calls begins with sending variables. Let&#8217;s add a name field to our initial form:</p>
<div class="code">
&lt;html&gt;<br />&lt;head&gt;<br />&lt;title&gt;Making Ajax calls with jQuery&lt;/title&gt;<br />&lt;script language=&#8221;javascript&#8221; src=&#8221;jquery-1.3.2.min.js&#8221;&gt;&lt;/script&gt;<br />&lt;script language=&#8221;javascript&#8221;&gt;<br />function click_function()<br />{<br />&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;$.get(&#8221;file-with-action.php&#8221;, {yourname: $(&#8221;#yourname&#8221;).val()}, function(responseText){$(&#8221;#show_stuff&#8221;).html(responseText)});<br />}<br />&lt;/script&gt;<br />&lt;/head&gt;<br />&lt;body&gt;<br />&lt;form&gt;<br />&lt;label&gt;Enter your name:&lt;/label&gt; &lt;input type=&#8221;text&#8221; name=&#8221;yourname&#8221; id=&#8221;yourname&#8221; /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;<br />&lt;input type=&#8221;button&#8221; value=&#8221;click this to make Ajax call&#8221; onclick=&#8221;click_function();&#8221;&gt;<br />&lt;/form&gt;<br />&lt;div id=&#8221;show_stuff&#8221;&gt;&lt;/div&gt;<br />&lt;/body&gt;<br />&lt;/html&gt;
</div>
<p>This time along with making an Ajax call we&#8217;re also sending a variable. file-with-action.php now looks like this:</p>
<div class="code">
&lt;?php<br />echo &#8220;Hello &#8221; . $_GET['yourname'] . &#8220;!&#8221;;<br />?&gt;
</div>
<p>You can similarly send your variables using POST instead of GET.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Becoming an expert authority in your field is not just a matter of ego massage, it also makes lots of business sense, especially if you sell your products or services (<em>or both</em>) on the Internet where cut-throat competition is perpetually present. Becoming an expert helps you stand out and instill a sense of confidence and trust in your customers and clients. People seek your opinion and they publish your opinion on their blogs and websites. They mention you and quote you during that online social interactions like on <a href="http://twitter.com">Twiter</a> and <a href="http://facebook.com">FaceBook</a>. Journalists quote you and link back to your website or social profile.</p>
<p>On the Internet it&#8217;s quite easy to become an expert authority; you need some focus, dedication, and right direction. Right direction is very important because if you spend all your time and resources digging out rocks where you expect gems you gain nothing. So you should not only know what you want to learn, you must also know how to obtain that knowledge. Some good sources you can use to become an expert authority can be:</p>

<li>Social networking websites</li>
<li>Online forums and publications</li>
<li>Conferences and seminars</li>
<li>Podcasts and videocasts</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Pidgin is an open source instant messaging client that you can use both on Windows and Linux based operating system such as Ubuntu. This blog tells you how to set up your Google apps account in Pidgin.</p>
<p>For many PC power users shifting from Windows to Ubuntu can be a difficult transition when they&#8217;ve got used to the numerous Windows-based software applications, and GoogleTalk is one of them. In GoogleTalk it&#8217;s extremely easy to set up both Gmail accounts and Google apps account. Fortunately, GoogleTalk works only under Windows. And if you want to use something like GoogleTalk, you need to use Pidgin or Empathy. Pidgin is installed by default when you are installing Ubuntu. A good thing about Pidgin is that you can use multiple instant messenger IDs with it, including GoogleTalk, MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ and Jabber.</p>
<p>Anyway, in order to add your Google apps account or ID to Pidgin, you enter the login information in the following manner:</p>
<ul>
<li>Start Pidgin, or bring it forward if it&#8217;s already running.</li>
<li>Click Accounts -> Manage Accounts</li>
<li>Click Add&#8230;</li>
<li>In the Basic tab
<ul>
<li>For Protocol enter XMPP</li>
<li>For username enter the text before @ of your email</li>
<li>For Domain enter the name of your domain (yourdomain.com)</li>
<li>For Resource enter Home</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>In the Advanced tab
<ul>
<li>Select Require SSL/TLS</li>
<li>For Connect port enter 5222</li>
<li>For connect server enter talk.google.com</li>
<li>For File transfer proxies enter proxy.eu.jabber.ord</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Click Add</li>
</ul>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So you have finally got MySQL running in Ubuntu. Now how to manipulate the database? You can open the Terminal window and use the MySQL command prompt but it can become really laborious after a while, especially if you&#8217;ve been using some sort of GUI in Windows to work with MySQL. Although there are several options, in this blog post we&#8217;re installing mysql-admin. Conventionally people use the command prompt to install software, but this should be present in the repository.</p>
<p>Go to System -&gt; Administration -&gt; Synaptic Package Manager</p>
<p>It gives you this window (<em>it asks for your user password before the window</em>):</p>
<p><a href="http://www.howtoplaza.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Screenshot-Synaptic-Package-Manager.png" style="text-decoration:none"><img border="0" src="http://www.howtoplaza.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Screenshot-Synaptic-Package-Manager-300x220.png" alt="Screenshot-Synaptic-Package-Manager" title="Screenshot-Synaptic-Package-Manager" width="300" height="220" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-690" /></a></p>
<p>Search for mysql-admin. Mark it, and then click Apply. After it has been installed, you&#8217;ll need to run MySQL Query Browser in order to view databases. It&#8217;s not as elaborate as the Windows versions of many GUIs, but it does the job better than the command prompt.</p>
