I’ve been thinking about human evolution lately. Not where we come from, but where we headed. To better understand this I ventured to Focus 35, a realm where it?s possible to connect with nonphysical beings that have gathered to observe and aid humanity as we enter an important phase of our development.

When I arrived I asked for guidance by someone who could show me an example of another world in which evolution paralleled what is going on here on Earth. There I met Xan.

Xan appeared to me as a point of light. He made no effort to present himself in any particular way that I could associate with a physical form. But once we established contact he communicated to me that he had lived many physical lives on planet known as Ikthiar. This is a rough phonetic pronunciation that represents my best replication of his language.

After making our connection, Xan offered to take me to his world for a tour and a history lesson. I agreed and set my intention to follow him as we set out across space-time to return to his planet of origin. The star field I often associate with Focus 35 winked into blackness and I felt a sensation of movement through nothingness that lasted for perhaps ten seconds. Then the darkness brightened to reveal an aerial view of a forested planet.

With Xan at my side I soared over verdant tree-covered hills, large bodies of iridescent water, and tranquil slow moving rivers. From my bird?s eye view the topography resembled a vast broadleaf forest that may have been what the Appalachian Mountains looked like 1,000 years ago. Greens and blues dominated the color pallet of the landscape and the sky, but on closer inspection I saw more earthly grays and browns as I picked out stones and soil amid the fecund vegetation.

The planet appeared remarkably Earthlike, yet curiously I saw no signs of cities, roads, farms, or any other indication of inhabitation. I asked Xan how such a pristine planet could represent a parallel transition in the evolution of his species.

“This is our world as it exists today. It was not always this way,? he said. ?What you see before you is evidence that our troubled past has long been healed. Very few of our kind still inhabit this world in physical bodies. A select few do so because they volunteer to be physical caretakers of our planet. The rest have evolved to a nonphysical existence. This is the happy ending to a very long story. Let me go back a few millennia and start there.”

We stopped in midflight and as two points of light we hovered effortlessly in the air a few thousand feet above the landscape below. Then Xan began to explain. ?Like humans we were a warlike species that fought over limited resources. Tribal similarities were our strongest bonds. Beyond those small groups we had no sense of loyalty at all. We were quick to anger over the slightest of perceived insults. We skirmished and raped and pillaged as a way of life. We had little respect for ourselves, less respect for our enemies and no respect for our planet.

“In our desire to defeat our perceived enemies we looked for anything that might give us an advantage. For this we turned to the resources of our planet. Our world had an active molten core and we used geothermal energy as our primary source of power. We did this not because we were concerned with pollution, which would never have entered our minds, but rather because the planet was already hot and we were lazy. Why take the trouble to generate heat when you can use what is already there?

“We dug deep within the ground to tap the molten center of our planet and to draw from it the heat we needed to power our society. As we were only concerned with our own tribal energy wells or those we could forcibly acquire from our enemies, we paid no attention to the overall impact that we were having on the planet.

“War kept our planetary population in check but it also brought about an increasing dependence upon the planet for additional energy to fuel our weapons of destruction. As more and more energy wells were dug, greater amounts of energy were directed toward the surface. We needed to move that energy from place to place, so in addition to the primary vertical shafts we also dug a lattice work of diagonal and horizontal tunnels to transfer the energy to different locations. This lattice work was so extensive that it undermined the stability of our planet?s crust.

“Our unchecked mining and burrowing ushered in a period of great volcanism on the planet. Eruptions were small at first. Little more than explosions here and there as the tunnels expanded due to trapped pockets of superheated magma and gas. But they grew stronger and more widespread as the hot magma from within the planet?s core melted and widened the channels that we had dug. Our tunnels created lava vents that released huge amounts of energy. And they directed the explosions directly toward our population centers.

“Soon more people were being killed from the explosions than from our wars. But we didn?t care for the misfortunes of our enemies. We considered their losses to be our gain. At first we devoted more effort to figuring out how to benefit from their destruction than we did to solving our own problems. But an even bigger problem was developing.

“As the heat trapped within the core of our planet poured into our atmosphere it caused a rapid change in our environment. Weather changed. Food sources failed. And our warlike tendencies made matters even worse. We used the excess geothermal energy to fuel our weapons of war to fight each other over our dwindling resources. We may well have erased ourselves from the planet if we had kept up our battles for much longer.

“But another problem developed that we could not ignore. As our climate changed it became difficult to breathe. All the venting of energy was literally changing the gaseous combination of our atmosphere. We eventually realized we would soon asphyxiate if we didn?t do something.

“This invisible threat was sufficiently frightening that we united in an effort to resolve it. Although banding together went against our natures, we accepted the wisdom of our leaders that the only way to survive would be to work together to find a way to change our atmosphere before it was too late. At that point we only had two ideas in common. First, we needed to work together to solve our problem. Second, once the problem was solved we would go back to our old ways of fighting one another. But those two beliefs were enough for us to begin cooperating.

“At first we tried to seal the energy vents but that quickly proved futile since anything covering the vents soon melted away. After studying the problem for a while we realized that the best way to save the planet was to increase our vegetative cover because the plants would draw out the poisonous gases and return them to the soil, while replenishing the life giving air we needed to breathe. So we choose some of the fastest growing plants on our planet and began to cultivate them in nurseries. Then we started planting them across our denuded hillsides. Our scientists worked to find and breed new species of plants that would grow closer to the geothermal vents and pull even more of the noxious gases from our air.

“As this was a planet wide problem it was not solved overnight. But as this processes scaled up our entire economy shifted. More and more individuals dedicated themselves to growing, planting, and tending the plants. And many others acted to support those people who were working directly with the plants. By necessity we learned the power of cooperation.

“In time the benefits of cooperation grew so obvious that they became the preferred way of living. After three generations of this, the plans that our grandparents made for returning to our previous warlike existence seemed more like the subject for our history books than a prescription for our future. Within a few more generations our previous warlike existence was considered to be our legendary strength but not our current way of being,? said Xan.

“Fascinating,” I replied. “I can certainly see parallels with our own planet. But it gives me hope for the future.”

“This history I’ve recounted glosses over many difficulties we encountered on the way to resolving our problems,” said Xan, “but it points out that it took a common crisis to bring our people together. This is a fairly frequent theme in the development of intelligent species, but the outcome of the crisis depends upon the collective wisdom and capabilities of the individuals, the societies involved, and the species as a whole.”

“And there’s the rub,” I said.

“Cooperation and self-organizing systems are a natural development as intelligence and complexity increase,” Xan continued. “But that transition need not follow a prescriptive path. Free will always dominates. Our species was lucky. Or rather we were lucky that we chose the path of prudence and diligence when we did. We chose to do what was necessary to survive even though it went against our natural way of being. Your species has yet to negotiate the transition. That is why so many of us have gathered to observe and render assistance to humanity at this time.”

With that concluding remark we left his world and returned through the blackness to the star field where we met. Then I thanked Xan for his tour and his teaching and returned my full awareness to my body.

It takes courage to explore the unknown, as it does to publicly tell others about personal experiences that are contrary to prevailing conventional ideas. Another Brave Soul is a periodic column that highlights the efforts of individuals who are exploring spirituality and the boundaries of human potential?and helping others to do the same. If you or someone you know are having such experiences, let us know and we?ll consider profiling them in this column. Click here to submit your suggestion.

Everyone has a spirit guide, according to the New Age axiom. Dori Alsop Paden of Richfield, MN has more than a dozen. And she?s on a first name basis with all of them.

While most people settle for one-way prayers for assistance or whispered flashes of insight during moments of quiet repose, Dori engages with her spirit guides on a daily basis. Fortunately for those people whose lines of spiritual communication are less developed, Dori shares the advice, guidance, and messages she channels with the general public on her blog.

Dori operates under the premise that self-awareness is found at all levels of existence, including that of animals, trees, and even planets. Her blog posts chronicle her communications with pets and dolphins, a fascinating conversation with a redwood tree, and even a discussion with the planet Mercury. They also detail out of body adventures to distant planets, contacts with extraterrestrials, and insights into pending earth changes such as global warming. But most posts represent channeled messages from spiritual guides at differing levels of nonphysical reality.

The subject matter varies depending upon who Dori converses with and whether she is answering reader questions or pursuing her own desire for guidance. Topics range from the nature of belief systems and the manifestation of physical things to advice on dealing with negative nonphysical entities and tips on improving interdimensional communication. Channeled personalities vary from the caring motherly messages of Benjamin to the calculating statistical analysis of Xanpithicus to the no nonsense practical advice of Meridian.

All Dori?s messages follow a similar format that provide a brief preamble to establish a context for the channeled message and a section for follow up commentary where she adds insights that help readers to better understand the messages she is bringing through.

The chronology of Dori?s early psychic development sounds a bit like a prequel to M. Night Shyamalan?s movie The Sixth Sense. Dori first recognized her psychic abilities in 1964 when she was 18 years old and attending college. At that time her dorm room was haunted by a poltergeist. Although her roommate also experienced trouble with moving objects, only Dori could hear the poltergeist laughing.

While Dori was still in college, a woman from her dormitory died unexpectedly as a result of a horseback riding accident. Dori began to see the woman?s face superimposed on other people?s faces as she passed them on the street. With the images came the words, ?Tell my mother.? Although she ignored the plea at first, eventually Dori located the woman?s mother and delivered the message. This stopped the communications from her schoolmate, but it opened the door for contact with a number of other disembodied spirits.

In 1975 another breakthrough happened. Dori experienced what she calls a total spontaneous bleedthrough. ?I was walking down a stairway and looking out the window on a summer day when suddenly I experienced myself sitting around a campfire on a cold black night chanting the name of Indra, an ancient Hindu god of fire,? she says. I was wide awake and in both places at the time.

Today this might be classified as a past life memory, but Dori had little context for the experience at the time and she found it quite disturbing. Fortunately it proved to be a positive turning point when soon afterwards a friend recommended she read Seth Speaks by Jane Roberts, a groundbreaking book that documented Robert?s channeled communications with a nonphysical personality called Seth, who spoke about the nature of human consciousness, how we shape our personal reality, and the interrelationship between our experiences in the physical and nonphysical realms. The book changed Dori?s life.

?What was strange about it was the reading wasn?t like learning new material, but a remembering. For me it was a wake up call.? she says. This led her to a series of courses and workshops that awakened a host of new psychic abilities, including channeling, psychic readings, out of body journeys, and an unearthly type of spirit singing in a language Dori calls EKtavasi.

Now some 30 years later Dori is a skilled medium and talented traveler in nonphysical reality. But she is moving beyond the realm of acting solely as a student and taking on the role of teacher and guide. She?s recently recorded her EKtavasi singing on CD and is offering workshops through the Learning Annex and the Society for Teaching, Astrological Research and Study.

You have to be careful what you ask for, she advises. ?I started getting some serious messages that it was time for me to start teaching. I told my guides I had a job and didn?t have time. Suddenly my job disappeared and I had lots of time. Now these new opportunities are opening up for me,? she says.

Dori posts her adventures and channeled communications each morning Monday through Friday. You can read her most recent posts online at www.psychicblogsonline.blogspot.com or you can visit her main site at www.onedarnedgoodpsychic.com.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. So starts the Book of John in the Bible. The Word has long been central to our concept of God. But perhaps the words we use to describe God say as much or more about us than they do about the Divine.

In English we use phrases such as Holy Spirit, God our Savior, King of Kings, My Redeemer, The Almighty, and Alpha and Omega.

In Hebrew we may say Yaweh (Hebrew: ????) “God Is,” Adonai (Hebrew: ???????) “My Lord,” Shekhinah (Hebrew: ?????) “God descended to dwell among humanity,” Hashem (Hebrew: ???) “The Name,” and Hadâ€var (Hebrew: ????), “That Which Cannot Be Described.”

In Arabic we could say Allah (Arabic: ???) “The Greatest Name,” As-Salam (Arabic: ??????) “Source of Peace,” or Al-Fattah (Arabic: ??????) “The Opener.”

These three languages contain literally hundreds of ways to describe God. The same diversity holds true for many religions and many languages around the world. In fact, humans may have more ways of describing God than we have words for anything else.

In English we often say “God is in all things.” Yet when we use pronouns like “He” or appellations like “The Lord” we express a conception of God as something separate from ourselves. If we accept that God is in all things then surely God must be within us as well.

Similarly when we start a prayer with the words “Our Father who art in heaven…” we again create a sense of distance between ourselves and the Divine. While such language may be comforting in its familiarity, it actually does an unconscious disservice to those who use it.

In our daily lives we often reach for the easiest word or phrase available in our memory banks without thinking of what the true meaning is. For example, we often greet people by saying “Hi. How are you?” yet weâ€re shocked if they answer anything other than “fine” or “good.” When someone tells the truth about how their doing weâ€re taken aback. Apparently they donâ€t know it was a perfunctory question in advance of the real conversation.

Similarly we mix metaphors and use inexact phrases because weâ€re too lazy to choose our words carefully. So instead of saying “I must be going to the bus stop now because it looks like rain and I forgot to bring an umbrella,” we might say “Iâ€ve got to run to catch the bus. Itâ€ll be raining cats and dogs and I donâ€t want to be caught with my pants down.” This ludicrous phrasing may be socially acceptable for casual conversation, but for those seeking a deeper connection with the Divine presence in their lives the word choices we make can take on far greater significance.

Lawyers warn us to choose are words carefully, but why would it be important in the realm of spirituality? Because the language that we use shapes our perceptions of the world around us. The words we choose can literally change the experience we have.

For example, imagine that as you read this a house fly is flitting about on the window pane nearest to you. What word would you use to describe the sound a fly makes? If you said, “buzz, buzz” your answer would be similar to that of most native English speakers. But if you are native Chinese speaker you might have answered “wong, wong.” “Buzz” and “wong” are a type of word called an onomatopoeia, which means theyâ€re words that imitate the sounds they represent. Other examples of onomatopoeias in English are words like “splash,” “whirr,” and “hiss.”

The difference between the Chinese and English word choices to describe the sound a fly makes is not a matter of translation. Rather itâ€s a matter of actually hearing a different noise coming from the very same movements of the very same creature. Our cultural word choice literally changes the sounds we hear. In other words our preconceptions about the experience we think weâ€re going to have actually define the experience we end up having. And what is true for our perception of the sound of a fly is similarly true for how we experience our connection with the Divine.

The Bible tells us that we are created in Godâ€s image. Those words match my personal experience. My experience is that the Divine is the very essence of my being. It is the light that shines within me. It is the life force that animates my being. It is the life force and the consciousness that inhabits all things in this physical world and in the worlds beyond.

Because this is my experience, I can no longer use inexact words to describe the all-encompassing Source of creation. To use language that sets me apart from All-That-Is works against my desires for a deeper connection to Source energy. It sets up preconceptions that Source and I are two distinct things when in fact we are one and the same.

If you feel similarly, then the next time you begin to use words in prayer, stop to consider what they really mean. When you encounter language that says “Our Father who art in heaven” do you really mean “Dear Dad who lives someplace different than me?” because in effect thatâ€s what youâ€re saying. Does that language bring you closer to that which you seek? If not, consider choosing a name of God that describes the connection you desire.

As you choose the words to describe your connection with God ask yourself how they make you feel. When I finish praying I want to feel joyous and ecstatic with an expansive sense of what is possible. You may want to feel differently. But no matter how it is that you want to feel, if when youâ€re done praying you donâ€t feel the way you desire, then maybe itâ€s time to rethink how youâ€re conceptualizing God and framing your prayers.

Sometimes itâ€s easiest to start by thinking about the outcome you desire. Working backwards, think how you want to feel when youâ€re done praying. Then craft your prayer with that purpose in mind. Prayer is your opportunity to exercise your personal powers of co-creation. So choose your words carefully. Create your prayers and envision your relationship with the Divine in a way that brings you closer to that which you seek.

Words are the architecture of prayer. After all, as it says in the Book of John, in the beginning are your words. Your words are with God. Your words are God.

Today I decided to simply open up and channel what was important for me to hear. I found it useful. You may too. The message for today is this.

Trust the process that is unfolding in your life. It is the process of you deepening your connection with Source. Source energy is constantly expressing itself through you as it is through all things. And once you recognize this you can focus on the two essential tasks that everyone must work on during their lifetimes in this physical reality.

First, is your task to reduce your resistance to the flow of Source energy. Resistance takes many forms but it is always caused by fear. And fear is the result of erroneously thinking that you are cut off from Source energy. The longer you dwell in this thinking pattern the more it fosters a self-reinforcing cycle that leaves you feeling ever more disconnected from your own personal Source of power.

In the early stages of resistance you may feel indifference or procrastination. Later you may feel concern, or anger, or even rage. Ultimately, you may feel depressed or powerless. All of these emotions represent the growing distance between your current thinking and the joyous elation you feel when you are aware of your connection with Source energy.

But you need not remain in such a place of discomfort. Source energy is always available to raise you up. You do this one step at time, reaching for those thoughts and feelings that help you to feel incrementally better. And then you reach for the next thought and feeling beyond that one, each extension bringing you closer and deeper into your connection with Source.

As you learn to trust the presence of Source energy in your life, you release your fear, which in turn enables you to allow even more of Source energy to flow into your life.

Many people fear turning their lives over a Higher Authority. ?I?m in control of my life!? they shout. And indeed you always are. Free will is your sovereign birthright. But by that choice you can sit in misery or you can dance in joy.

Opening yourself to the abundance of Source energy does not mean that you must relinquish control. Instead it means loosening the white-knuckled grip that your ego prefers and moving in harmony with the flow of life around you. Are you less in control while dancing than when you?re clutching the railing on the perimeter of the dance floor? Opening to Source energy means moving to the beat and allowing yourself the freedom to express who you truly are in that moment. You are the dancer. Source energy is the music. Together you co-create the moments of your life.

By allowing Source energy into your life you literally play with reality. You shape the experiences of your life just as Source energy does. It is happening all around you all the time. Look at the sky. Source energy is creating the play of the light in the clouds. Look at the new buds forming on the tips of the branches on the barren trees. That is Source energy expressing itself. Source energy is constantly creating. And so are you.

You are creating right now. You are creating the very experience of sitting down to read these words. You are creating every single moment of every single day. The only difference between you and Source is the degree to which you are consciously creating your experiences. You stepped into this time-space reality for the purpose of exploring your own powers of creation. This deliberate conscious creation is your second task.

When you release your fear and resistance, you allow yourself to effortlessly create that which you desire. If you desire it, Source brings it to you. Hold out the signal of your desire long enough and consistently enough and Source energy will bring it to you. This is the way the universe works. This is called the law of attraction.

You use this principle in your life 24 hours per day, seven days per week, whether you realize you are or not. It is as automatic as your breathing is. It is as natural as your thinking is. You are always creating your experience in your life. Now is the time to trust that process and allow it to flow through you. Now is the time to engage with Source on a conscious level and use it to deliberately create the life that you desire.
