I made a trip up to Rocky Canyon, Campground and Skinnydipper Hot Springs with Stoney. The video includes the first two, but it was raining too hard for any Skinnydipper flimage. Both hot springs are located north of Boise Idaho, in the Boise National Forest.

Skinnydipper, AKA Mile Marker 4/Deer Creek Hot Springs, is one of just a handful of hot springs that are within 1-2 hours from Boise, Idaho. Drive time from Boise is approximately 1 hour. Skinnydipper is Idaho's most recent hot springs discovery. In the 1990s, Hot Springs Harley found and cultivated the hot springs with Keeper Ken's help into what it is today. The .25 mile hike up from the Banks-Lowman Highway pullout is steep and treacherous at times. A loose-knit group of volunteers labeled "Keepers" maintain the trail, pools and plumbing. Weekend and summer partying can get out of hand, especially on the weekend. Fights, vandalism and vehicle break-ins have been known to occur during peak usage.

At the end of a forest road in the Boise National Forest, north of the town of Crouch lies the historic Boiling Springs Guard Station - which is available for rent by reservation only. The real treat is the nearby hot springs; featuring rock walled pools with rock/sand bottoms that have minor amounts of silt/algae.

At the end of a short hike through the Boise National Forest you will find one of Idaho's most unique hot springs. There is so much flow at Vulcan that the US Department of Energy has been salivating over it's geothermal potential for years. I've heard many a rumor that uncle Sam wants to develop the Vulcan complex into a geothermal power plant. Let's hope that doesn't happen! Vulcan Hot Springs used to have a couple different soaking options. Now there is primarily one. There are others, but because of the design of the main pool, difficulty awaits for the opportunist soaker. The main pool pool is huge. Without a doubt the largest in Idaho. Almost too large if you ask me, I'm worried that there is too much slow moving water. And yes, Red Spider Mites AKA Chiggers are active at this hot springs, but in low amounts. Just keep your clothing and towel away from the hot springs area.

Features private hot springs soaking pool, 2 outdoor pools, the exterior of the complex and other private pools, geodesic domes, alligators and camping area. Pretty sweet soak, the private pools are cleaned after each use, and the outdoor pools were clean as well. The geodesic domes were way cool, and can be rented out for camping.

Sharkey is operated by the BLM - which do an excellent job taking care of the pools and surrounding area. There are changing rooms, toilets, bbq pits and a large fire pit on-site. Please remember to not bring glass, pay your $1 to soak and pick up every bit of trash you see.

Trail Creek is usually a pretty stellar soak, and usually is littered with a moderate amount of trash. This time however, the entire surrounding area was trashed. Is it really that hard to pick up after oneself? Why come out to the woods to begin with if that's the mindset?

Kirkham natural Hot Springs in the Boise National Forest. This video is from visiting Kirkham on the way back from a trip to Stanley, Idaho. The hot springs campground was almost free from winter snow and signs of spring were plentiful. This large complex of hot springs yielded to an incredible soak. When visiting Kirkham, one can't help but want to put the kybosh (soak) on Kirkham. As always, pick up all trash and please don't bring glass to hot springs.
