A man, who has a massive following, tries to do something good for the nation- Thug. Other man openly gives anti-India speeches and instigates mob for his separatist causes- State Guest. When anti-Indian separatists meet at Delhi- the national capital, they are provided Police protection and when common people unite and peacefully protest against something which is unjust, it is brutally quashed? This is the beauty of our current government and its cronies. It feels like I slept in India and woke up in Communist China! Firing tear gas shells in closed tents, beating men, women and children ruthlessly and then starting a propaganda against the entire movement itself, I feel ashamed. I feel disgusted. Where is the humanity which we like to talk about so much?

RSS did it!

One Scam after other has been the USP of this government. Frankly speaking I am now bored of counting them all. What rubs salt to the wound are the comments made by the members of ruling party. Dear CON-gress, please don’t insult my intelligence by letting people like Digvijay Singh come on the TV screen and speak nonsense. Just for example I saw a very interesting status message on Baba Ramdev’s facebook page-

02 June 2011:
‘If Cong was SCARED, Ramdev would be behind bars’: Digvijay Singh.

05 June 2011:
Baba Ramdev is arrested

I have a few questions which i need answers for:

1. Was it a ever a question that Baba Ramdev will not sit on a fast? From last few days it was always clear in the media that this will be a full-fledged ‘Anshan’. Anybody who went in Cannaught place area of Delhi could have seen the massive posters which said he will keep a fast to protest the lack of government inteest and will to bring black money back which has been stashed out of this country since a long time.

2. Where was this blatant display of power when needed in J&K on Republic day? Our own people could not hoist our own flag in our own country! Who were you afraid of then?? Just because common man does not wield arms does not mean you will arm twist him.

3. Where is our youth leader Rahul Gandhi, when we need him the most? Is your only job to promote your party in times of elections? Few years ago when you came into the political landscape of India I raised my hopes a bit. How wrong was I…?

Sunil Kumar, skull fracture, at LNJP hospital, claims the police blocked most exits to Ramlila Maidan

4. Is human right’s commission only appointed to see the Rights of terrorists, separatists and anti-social elements? Where are the human rights activists when thousands of people were being thrashed by Delhi Police? Girls were being hit at their private body parts? Legs were broken, skulls cracked, somebody got paralyzed for life, don;t they deserve any human rights? Oh wait…! All the resources are diverted to take care of Kasab and Kashmiri Separatists!

5. Does Your blood not boil when you see innocent people, your brethren, being treated like scumbags by their own chosen government? Do you really support corruption and terrorism?

Many of my young friends think this is a political gimmick by baba. Even if I agree to this, then why should people like Ramdev not stand in politics? At-least he decided to do something. For me he is better than couch-commentators who are experts in every god-damned thing. He has a quite a following and all the problems which he has raised till now seem genuine. Be it revision of Land acquisition act or bringing back approx Rs. 400 Lakh crores of money stored by tax evaders? The money which rightfully belongs to a common man. On one hand govt. expects a common man to be content with Rs.20 a day and on other hand it does not want to do anything against such inappropriate wealth acquisition? Finally there will be somebody in politics who has raised relevant issues. I am fed up of vote bank politics and issues like reservation. It is high time, Baba Ramdev should openly come in politics. We need a good alternative now. Somebody who is not scared of raising his voice.

Rajbala, critically injured in the cervical spine, all four limbs paralysed, at LNJP hospital. She is a yoga teacher from Gurgaon, Haryana, and was fasting on 4 June with everyone else at the Ramlila Maidan

I will quote my friend Ghazal here- “We all sat and cribbed about the scams:
1. 2G Spectrum
2. Adarsh Society Scam
3. Cash for vote scam
4. The commonwealth games scam
5. The Black Money (including Hasan Ali Khan) scam
6. The Indian Airlines scam – which is yet to come out in the open… AND WILL BE THE MOTHER OF ALL SCAMS
These are just a few hyped scams… there are numerous others lost in the war of words. Yet we sat in-front of the TV and cribbed and debated. But when people Ramdev and Anna Hazare came forward and questioned the govt. and protested to make them take strong actions against the culprits, you have the audacity to call it a political gimmick… SHAME ON SUCH COWARDS. You’re better off sitting at home, wearing bangles and spending your miserable life cribbing and crying.”

And for the people who accuse him of stashing black money, I would just say that if it were that black, govt. would not have to make such a desperate attempt to break his fast. Whatever he or his trust earns has got to be properly audited or CON-gress government would not have lost a single moment in pointing that out and throwing him behind bars.

Finally I feel the role of media was very sadistic in the entire episode. Every channel, especially the English Media, was busy cooking conspiracy theories and trying to shift the entire blame on Baba Ramdev itself! From being a 5-star satyagraha it became a communal ground for rioters to unite! Why? Just because he is a sadhu- a hindu and wears saffron? Is it a reason good enough to ostracize him? Can somebody come openly and tell me is any of Baba Ramdev’s various demands, unreasonable?

Makes me think, if Mahatma Gandhi’s ways are not accepted should we adopt Bhagat’s way?

“Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.”
- Winston Churchill

Dear Govt. Of India,

I never thought i would ever quote Winston Churchill in my life. But today things are happening which i never thought would have ever happened. I will not beat the bush and come to the topic directly. I have loved my National flag as long as i remember. 15th August and 26th January had been the most pious days in our lives when we could see our beloved ‘Tiranga’ hoisted high. And today, we are stopping (our) people from hoisting (our) National flag on (Our) territory? And it is just not our territory, it is our motherland. Part of Bharat since time immemorial! Have our political parties forgotton that for hoisting this particular piece of cloth in Jammu & Kashmir, countless mothers have lost their sons, Wives have lost their husbands and sisters have lost their brothers? Shall i remind you that of people like Capt. Vikram Batra or Capt. Vijayant Thapar who on your single command went on to do supreme sacrifice for the sake of our flag? Ye, they died for the flag. They died so that our flag could be unfurled there. You did not think of ‘peace’ then! Did you?

Soldiers die for this Tricolor!

Today, when people want to hoist flag at Srinagar why should they be stopped? Shouldn’t we stop them who are opposing them? How confused can you be in your decision? Do i need to tell you who is the enemy and who is not? You fear of rebellion i fear of lack of self-respect. And logically speaking, this is the perfect chance to see who are against the Indian nation and book them for good. For god’s sake can’t you, for once, rise above petty politics? Or has this become a rule that whatever the opposition party says, is wrong. Period?

The anti-nationals come to Delhi and hold a Azaadi conference. You did nothing. Why? Just because we cant throw stones at you? The naxals captured 1/6th territory of my nation, you did nothing. Why? Just because we are civil people? Countless farmers die everyday, you didn’t do anything. Why? Just because Sharad Pawar’s reign over cricket was more important? This bullshit has to be done away with. Inflation has reached gargantuan proportions. You did not do anything. Why? Because we, the middle class, are not like some moronic separatist fools who will torch your offices? And don’t even get me started over the likes of Suresh Kalmaadi and other assholes living and prospering in your holy guidance. Oh, the humiliation which you caused to our nation internationally has not been forgotten.

Seeing this trend, i believe the Gujjar agitation is the best way to get anything done in your regime: Sit on the railway tracks and get your wishes fulfilled. We, the people, of India need to stand up against this blasphemy. Tricolor is the symbol of my freedom. It is a part of my identity. It is something which has been achieved after our nation offered over infinite sacrifices and it has been sustained by giving more.

Just because you can revert back a train of BJP workers who wanted to hoist the National flag does not mean you won. You may give free liquor to illiterate masses and come back to power in 2014. But you have made me more radical. you have made me and several other youngsters disgusted by your deeds. This is a warning for you and your arrogance which thinks common people can’t do anything. I might be powerless today. But remember the tale of Chaanakya and Chandragupt- the great, who single handedly freed India from Roman clutches. You and your likes will not be able to bleed Bharat from thousand cuts. You may have won this battle and humiliated me, but i will win the war! That’s a promise.

JAI HIND

P.S- Omar Abdulla, the day those separatists start pelting stones, you will ask for some more army-men to come and ward them off. You are not only spineless, you are downright pathetic.

I have not written since last 1 month and I was not even planning to write in near future… Little did I know then that I would be forced to write today…

The trip to 89, Vijyant Enclave, Sec-29, Noida was spent contemplating the course of action which had to be taken after reaching. It was 3 PM and thoughts of upsetting grieving parents or being unable to meet Colonel V.N Thaper were the dominant amongst all others. We were on our way to the home of Capt. Vijayant Thapar, VrC who was martyred in Kargil war.

Tentatively, we rang the door bell. Few anxious moments passed. “Kaun?” A lady asked from inside. Dumbstruck, we were unable to find words. “Kaun hai?” The voice again asked. One of us could muster the courage to say, “Aunty Col. Thapar se milna tha.” We were warmly welcomed to the household. A large portrait of Capt. Vijayant welcomed us smilingly. Soon the pleasantries were exchanged and chit-chat started. My friends dealt with majority of talking as I took the back seat perplexed at the smiling faces in front of me. Half my time was spent in assessing whether Mrs. Thapar’s smile was genuine or not. Soon i realized that her smile was because she was more proud of her son than any mother on this planet. Discussion veered from politics & society to army and the rampant corruption. Col. Thapar was visibly distressed on the failure of bureaucracy to meet ex-army officer’s demand of one-rank one-pension. It was apparent that the couple fought vehemently and did not lose a chance to protest against injustices met out to ex-army officers and in other arenas of society.

It was as if bravery runs in the veins of this family. The father serves 37 years in army and retires when son is commissioned. Son is martyred at the age of 22 defending the nation, when most us were busy slogging to go into topmost MNC’s available. Family braves it and moves on trying to inspire many other lives. This cannot be the family of mere mortals!! It was a pilgrimage for me today.

And in the meanwhile what was the government doing? People in power were busy perpetrating scams. From Adarsh & 2G to Madhu Koda & Bofors. The list is long and endless. We have become a nation where nothing matters except money. Our policies have made our young soldiers to lay down their lives more frequently than ever. Have we lost all respect for people who died saving our future? Is there nothing beyond IPL, Big Boss and Rakhi ka Insaaf? I cannot even urge our media to spread awareness about it now. They are all corrupt! Where to go and whom to ask for help other than god almighty? Is the entire nation sleeping in drunken slumber or else Why young boys of 22-23 when martyred nobody even bats an eyelid?

As I write this, I am aware that for many of you, the name of Capt. Vijayant Thapar would not ring any bells. And why would it be, he did not act in any movie or play a cricket match. Following is the tale of Capt. Thapar’s valour. Do compare it with any Rambo, Terminator or XYZ action movie you have ever seen-

2 Raj Rif was given the task of captaining Tololing Knoll, Three Pimples. In this actions Robin (Capt. Vijayant Thapar) fought like a man and true soldier. These forbidding heights were held by enemy Northern Light Infantry (NLI) . They had well constructed fortification, were very well stocked, well placed and dominating the narrow ridge line on which 2 Raj Rif had to attack. In Tololing capture operation, determined to go to the forefront, Lt. Vijyant finally captured Bar Bagh bunker, Pt. 4590, which proved to be crucial. At 4 a.m., with 20 degrees Celsius on June 12 and 13, Tololing was captured. Leading his men of Raj Rifles in an audacious attack against heavily forfeited Tololing Hill, he hoisted the Indian Tricolor there, smiling and sitting on top of the hill with dead pak soldier lying around. It was a turning point in the Kargil conflict and was the first victory for India in Kargil.

Spot where Vijayant Died

After the successful capture of Tololing he spoke to his mother on V Sat telephone and proudly said “Mama we have captured Tololing”. Later on 28 June, 2 Raj. Rif. was given the task of capturing Three Pimples, Knoll

and Lone Hill area. The attack started with Vijyant’s platoon leading on a full moon night along a razor sharp ridge with no cover to offer. There was intense and accurate artillery shelling and heavy enemy fire. He lost some of his dear men and some more were injured causing the attack to be disrupted. However with his indomitable spirit and tremendous urge to capture Knoll he got together, the remnants of his men and moved through a ravine to face the enemy. It was a full moon night. Moreover this was an impossible position to capture. The troops of enemy 6 Northern Light Infantry had all the advantages- Strongly prepared positions, one narrow knife edge ridge, with precipitous slopes on both side, ravines thousands of feet deep, devoid of cover and almost vertical climbs at places.

At 8PM the attack commenced with a thunderous shatter as 120 guns opened fire rockets hit up the sky. Shells, Indians and Pakistani covered the whole area mixed with lethal machine gun fire. Into this inferno 2 Raj Rif moved with capt. Vijyant Thapar leading the attack. Among the first to fall in this rain of death was sepoy Jagmal singh Vijyant’s very dear orderly.

While the exchange of fire was going on, full of excitement Vijyant reached his company which had already secured a foothold on Knoll. By this time his company commander Major P. Achrya had been killed. At this news Vijyant’s anger was explosive. He surged ahead with his colleague Naik Tilak Singh. Both of them started engaging the enemy merely 15 mts. away. There were two enemy machine guns firing towards them. After about an hour and a half of fierce exchange of bullets and abuses Vijyant decided that he had to end the enemy. As he moved up to do so a burst of fire struck him on his head. He fell in the arms of his comrade Naik Tilak Singh. A brave son of India had fallen. It was after that the men of his company charged and fully captured Knoll. The victory at Knoll on 29 June 1999, is a saga of bravery unmatched, and unbounded grit and determination. Courage alone and unflinching faith in almighty God alone turned a tactically impossible situation into a victory… Sometime just before the final assault, Vijayant had written his last letter to his family.

Did Vijayant lay his life for nothing? A boy of 22 died for the nation, can’t we even think of that nation for a couple of moments? Look around yourself you sure will find something worthwhile which can go a long way in helping our country.

Col. Thapar and every martyr’s home is a pilgrimage which should be visited by a youngster before he goes to Kashi, Mecca or Medina…

On 21st October 2010, thursday afternoon, with a group of Kashmiri separatist leaders, Maoists and like minded people their PR executive, Ms. Arundhati Roy appeared. In a conference which was peculiarly named, “Azaadi-The only way”. It was organised to advocate the release of political prisoners (Maoists). This conference was moderated by SAR Geelani. Those who don’t know Geelani sahab, should know that he was the chief accused in the Parliament attack case and escaped any penalty due to poor prosecution. Judge commented in dread, “it is clear that he has commited the crime but cannot be punished due to lack of proof.” Now he teaches at Zakir Hussain college in Delhi University while our soldiers killed due to him see their families suffering from heaven above.Unfortunately for them in this conference was a group of Kashmiri Pandits who vehemently protested against the entire facade and waved the tricolor. After sometime they were driven out on the direction of Geelani by Delhi Police. I cry at the irony… In the capital of our nation, the ruling party supports secessionists while patriotic people with Indian flags are driven out..forcefully..

Following are the excerpts of what they said: (Courtesy- Kanchan gupta)

Arundhati Roy: “Kashmir should get azadi from bhookhey-nangey Hindustan… India needs azadi from Kashmir and Kashmir from India. It is a good debate that has started. We must deepen this conversation and I am happy that young people are getting involved for this cause which is their future. The Indian Government is a hollow superpower and I disassociate from it… Earlier we used to talk about holding our high and now we prostrate ourselves before the US… Kashmiris have to decide whether they want to be with or get separated from bhookhey-nangey Hindustan where more than 830 million people live on only Rs 20 per day… In the early-1990s India opened two gates – one for the Babri Masjid and the other for the economy… We ushered in two kinds of totalitarianism: Hindu totalitarianism and the other economic totalitarianism… I am also aware of the stories about Kashmiri Pandits. I must tell you that Panun Kashmir is a false group…”

Syed Ali Shah Geelani: I urge Kashmiris to boycott interlocutors and reject the eight-point agenda of India for defusing the crisis in the Valley. The people of Kashmir are not against dialogue, but the talks should be on the core issue of azadi and Pakistan should also be involved in the discussions… The dialogue should not be bilateral. India, Pakistan and representatives of people of Jammu & Kashmir should sit together… They must take into account sacrifices made by Kashmiris during the last 63 years. Indian Government has to accept our five-point agenda, only then will we initiate talks with interlocutors. Otherwise, I ask Kashmiris to boycott them… We demand Indian security forces should be withdrawn from Jammu & Kashmir under UN supervision; political prisoners should be released; cases should be registered against the killers of 111 innocent people killed during the last four months… We want the right to self-determination… Today it is said that interlocutors will come and meet a host of people in the State for one year to understand what people want. This is a fraud. It is an attempt to delay everything hoping that poeple will forget… Kashmir is not an internal dispute but an international issue…

SAR Geelani added a clarification: “Kashmir does not only mean the Kashmir Valley but the entire Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Muzzafarabad, Baltistan and Mirpur…”

It was absolutely uncalled for and water is a tad above my head to tolerate now. Arundhati Roy’s comments and viewpoint have always been pathetic but now it has crossed all lines sanity. We cannot allow her to continue just in the name of ‘Freedom of Speech’. Constitutional freedom can not be used against the state at any cost. She once proudly stated that she is ‘seceding from India’ but still she does nothing but live in our nation and utter venom against it! If only we had a government with will-power Arundhati Roy would have been hauled up under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967, amended in 2004-05. The Act says, “Secession of a part of the territory of India from the Union includes the assertion of any claim to determine whether such part will remain a part of the territory of India.” Section 18 of the amended UAPA lays down that “Whoever conspires or attempts to commit, or advocates, abets, advises or incites knowingly facilitates the commission of, a terrorist act or any act preparatory to the commission of a terrorist act, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than five years but which may extend to imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.” Section 18B says, “Whoever recruits or causes to be recruited any person or persons for commission of a terrorist act shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than five years but which may extend to imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.” Why, in the name of almighty, is the government not arresting her?

On other occasions she has criticized India for not letting the ideological sons of Mao to spread their violence. She feels the only way out is a revolution and not reformation in the system. “The concept of Indian democracy is the biggest publicity scam of this century. Holding elections every five years does not necessarily mean that our country enjoys democracy.” It is just because of Democracy which we exercise you can so much as utter nonsense against the system and still live unscathed. Try that in china. Your idea of democracy means giving a free hand to lawlessness to anybody and everybody who wants to fight against the system with a leftist ideology of-course!

Madam, we know many in our Hindustaan are ‘Bhookhey-Nangey’ but we vow to work and eradicate it unlike you who does nothing other than go to book-reading ceremonies and glorify the poverty. And why would you not! This poverty is your bread and butter! Any constructive criticism from your part is most welcome but we will not tolerate you tarnishing the image of our nation or demean her in anyway possible. Dare I ask what have you done for Kashmiris, or the poor about whom you advocate so openly? Apart from symbolic gestures, speaking in conventions and misguiding people and irritating people like me you do nothing miss. To be honest, i am sick of the ‘Padhe-likhe gawaar’ like you.

If a pen is mightier than a sword, she is more dangerous than gun-wielding terrorists. I urge the govt. of India to arrest Arundhati Roy at the earliest and set a precedent.

We are arrogant people. To couple that with the ignorance which we possess is a deadly sin. We have been trying to tackle Kashmir since last 6 decades; suddenly we see another monster with the name of Naxalism. It would not be very long before we see one more problem raising its ugly head. Bangladeshi infiltration!! It must be noted that we face problem not only from Pakistani borders but from Bangladeshi border too. While Pakistan has been aggressively trying to harm India, Bangladesh’s plan is more subtle and long term with disastrous consequences.

To put things into perspective, the problem has reached such gargantuan proportions that now the fate of this country is being decided by infiltrators who come here and settle with the help of our cheap-as-shit politicians for some votes. 53 out of 294 Assembly constituencies of West Bengal have a high concentration of Muslims who have entered India. Similarly, the future of 40 Assembly seats in Assam is actively decided by Bangladeshi infiltrators. Recently, Pranav Mukherji also accepted the validity of this problem. But astonishingly, this is not a new problem. Students of Assam have been actively trying to draw attention towards this since 1978. Our government, after characteristically promising to solve, has failed to deliver. Its own candidates have poached these infiltrators as vote-banks. They have been given voter-id cards, Indian citizenship and all the benefits reserved for citizens of India so that the perpetrators may come in power again and again. Vast swathes of land have been occupied and the indigenous people have been forced to leave their homes because of these foreigners. Now if you are reading the next few lines for the first time, you will laugh. I say this because I had laughed too when I heard it for the first time. Bangladeshi clerics and fanatics have been working on a plan to create ‘Greater Bangladesh’ or “Brihot Bangladesh’ which will consist of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Jharkhand. This phenomenon had started in 1960’s and 1970’s when due to the long porous borders and better economic conditions in India, Bangladeshis started migrating here. Soon the Congress politicians saw an opportunity in this situation and started poaching them for cheap electoral victories.

Even today, center is hellbent on not accepting the presence of this problem at the first place. AASU (All Assam Students Union) has been actively trying to attract government’s attention towards this problem but to no avail. Districts of Assam like Dhubri, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Cachar are entirely Muslim majority districts now. It is pertinent that Bangladesh has long discarded Secularism and has become an Islamic state and as soon as the migrants achieve a majority status in this region of lower Assam, they will demand secession from India and merger in Bangladesh. Not that this problem is only located to Assam. States like Bihar with districts of Purnia, Arharia, Kishanganj, Katihar and West Bengal with districts like South 24 Paraganas, North 24 Paraganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Maldah, Kolkata have shown visible proof of the rapid growth in Muslim population in every census. It is evident that no human race can reproduce so quickly and these are foreigners coming in from Bangladesh. If you feel I am a right wing fundamentalist please see what General S.K.Sinha had to say. He had been the deputy chief of Army staff and was appointed the governor of Assam. In November 1998, he sent a report to the president titled- “Report on Illegal migration into Assam submitted to the President of India by Governor of Assam”.

The muslim population of Assam has shown a rise of 77.2% in 1991 from what it was in 1971. The Hindu population has risen 41.89% from what it was in 1971…. The illegal immigrants coming in India after 1971 have predominantly been Muslims from Bangladesh. It has been altering the demographic complexion of this state… It poses a grave danger to the identity of Assamese people and our national security. The unabated influx of illegal migrants of Bangladesh in Assam threatens to reduce the Assamese into minority in their own state, as happened in Tripura and Sikkim. Successive governments In the center and in the state have not met this challenge… I feel it is my bounden duty to the nation and the state I have sworn to place before you this report on the dangers arising from the continuing silent demographic invasion… The long cherished design of Greater Bangladesh, making inroads into the strategic land-link of Assam can lead to severing the entire land-mass of the north-east from the rest of country. This will have disastrous strategic and economic consequences.

This was said by no ordinary student activist or journalist but by the former Deputy Chief of Army staff and Governor of Assam. You can gauge the magnanimity of problem by this itself. If not, then try and talk to any Assamese friend of yours and you will see what the natives feel like. We need to understand that we need to take care of the millions of hungry Indians before we show sympathy towards others. And I must emphasize that letting illegal immigrants have a free run is like committing Harakiri. These migrants use the inherent corrupt structure of India to take ration cards and Driving licenses in no time. Many reports say that they also work as sleeper cells for all the coming terrorist action in the nation and provide them with much needed inside help. Bangladeshi Army, ISI and govt. of Bangladesh give complete shelter to these terrorists on their soil and aide them in creating sleeper cells in India. Religious fanatics from Saudi Arabia freely and openly offer sums upto Rs. 1 lakhs to any Bangladeshi who marries an Indian non-Muslim. Qari Salim, an ISI operative and a HuM cadre who was arrested in Guwahati in 1999, revealed that he had come to India via Bangladesh and was tasked to carry out sabotage activities on the Leh-Manali highway. People involved in conspiracy of the hijacking of IC-814 from Kathmandu in December 1999 had used Bangladesh for coming to India.

I will end this rant with a few open questions for my readers. The Indo-Bangladesh border in 4096 Kms long and is very porous. Do we still not understand the importance of sovereignty that we keep the border so neglected? What has our government done to make this border secure? What have the authorities done to identify and send back the illegal migrants back to their native countries? What course of action are we planning to take in future? Will we forever be ruled by vote-bank politics and be aware that we are being ruined day by day or will we ever do anything?

They stand at the Siachin Glacier, they help people stuck in flood affected areas, they come to the rescue whenever and wherever needed. Even when the CWG bridge gave up, they were prompt to build a bigger and better structure within a few days. I am talking about the Glorious Indian armed forces. They do everything for us but why do we time and again forget that they too, like us, are normal people? People who have shed all luxuries of life just because they serve the nation. They have a life which is very tough to lead for ordinary people like you and me. Today i will tell you who kills more soldiers than the pak bred militants or naxals. If you go by statistics given by the ministry of defence, every 3 days and Indian soldier is killing himself. From 2007 to May 2010, militants have killed 208 soldiers whereas 368 soldiers have killed themselves. Apart from that every year 15-20 cases of attempted suicides come out.

Source: The week, 25th July, 2010 If you ask me, this is preposterous! Soldiers should be given best medical care possible by any nation and clearly our govt. is not doing enough. Currently there are 29 psychiatric centres in the three services, but there is not a single psychiatrist in the field hospitals at the division level. A division has around 10,000 soldiers. Although defence ministry is getting more proactive in solving this problem, any concrete results are yet to be seen. According to a survey done and conducted within 2000 soldiers, the following conclusions were derived as the major causes of a soldier’s suicide:

Prolonged stress and chronic stress of working in difficult terrain and situation.

Lack of family life and solve his family’s problems. He can just listen to them but still can’t do anything even after being provider of the family.

Lack of adequate sleep and rest in insurgency and militancy prone areas.

Perceived harassment and humiliation by senior officers.

Denial of leave even in cases of domestic emergencies.

The biggest problem, according to experts, is the soldier’s helplessness in solving the property disputes back home. There are several instances where neighbours or even brothers encroaching a soldier’s land or house when he is away on long duties. The nature of his duty prevent him to fight the long cases pending in court. In this way, his only property which is supposed to be used as a fallback retirement plan remains in doldrums! It has been a mere routine for every defence minister who joins office to write letters to chief ministers for sympathetic disbursal of land but no strict action has been taken so far. The government and its red-tapist babus have no time to tackle this issue when there are crores to be made by everyone. But for god’s sake take care of our soldiers who give you an opportunity to live your blood sucking lives…

But It's ironical that i have to use a foreign language- English, to share my thoughts with my fellow countrymen! I thought about it, but could not find single good reason. More i think, deeper i get into the complexities and after effects of Slavery which we faced and still face. You can read the first part here]

My friends asked me after the last post if i hated English that much. It is important to understand that this is not a diatribe against English which has a beauty of it’s own. To be honest, I do not have any grudges against English language, but the fact that my countrymen fail and do not even try to understand the adverse effect of the mentality which comes with English language. A language can never be accused for cultural domination, but their usage is.

Today, we are increasingly going away from our roots. We are in a no man’s land where we do not have complete grip over any of the languages, Hindi or English! Our fancy for the west has lead our students to ‘Spoken English courses’ and ‘English medium Schools!’ Almost every child’s parents aspire him to read in a English medium school which can be found easily in every nook and corner of our country. Still we see “Powar Break”, “Child bear” and grammatical errors everyday. And if you think that these mistakes are committed by students of not-so-expensive-public schools, students from the best schools imitate their western counterparts by writing something like “Dis 4 ol ppl whu tokz shit bou meh…. i jus gve a f**k bou uh cz um smtng tat uh cn neva b…!!‌”

There was a time when Hindi newspapers were a good source of knowledge. These days even they prefer writing ‘Hinglish’. Bollywood superstars, who earn their bread and butter due to Hindi, are embarrassed in sharing their thoughts in the same language! Students from Hindi medium or any local medium school can not face CAT like interviews if they do not have sound English speaking capabilities! And before you give me the dose of English-is-a-global-language, try to count the number of countries where English is the de-facto language. I bet your fingers would be enough to count. In trying to make ourselves global we are rapidly losing touch from ground realities. Our kids watch Cartoons and dubbed serials which have sentences like, “Hume outside jaane se koi stop nahin kar sakta!!!” Pawan Varma, in his book Becoming Indian, states: According to a survey, almost 70% words in Zee Tv’s Hindi News are in English! You can hear anchors speaking sentences like, “India ko apni strategic priorities aur ambitions ke context me apni neighboring countries se negotiations karni hogi.” Not a single word of consequence here is of Hindi. Exactly whom is this news meant for? Those who know those words do not need the few HIndi link words and those who don’t will not know what the learned person said. It serves no purpose at all other than mindless mongrelization.

The truth is that English has become a language of social exclusion on which the upper crust of Indian Middle class and high classes preside. Rest of Indians are either victims of this apartheid or aspirants. The ability to speak with the right accent and fluency dictates all social norms of conversation. But let me confess something with you today. I speak good English but yet many a times while speaking a word like ‘ale’ or ‘succinct’ i think if i have pronounced it right. Talking in one’s mother tongue is exhilarating! Conversation is without any unnecessary frills. If my young audience feels against the statement, when you go out to your friends tonight, try and abuse them in your mother tongue and then in English! You will get my point!

Article 351 says, “It shall be the duty of the Union to promote the spread of Hindi Language, to develop it so that it may serve as the medium of expression from all elements of the composite culture of India and secure its environment by assimilating, without interfering with its genius, the forms, styles and expressions used in Hindustani and in the other languages of India specified in the Eighth schedule, and by drawing, wherever necessary or desirable, for its vocabulary, primarily on Sanskrit and secondarily on other languages.”

I wonder how many politicians, who so vociferously swear on the constitution, remember this article? After Independence it was decided that since all the records were kept in English, it should stay as the official language for 15 years till then the records be translated back and then Hindi should replace it. but by then our Sarkaari Babus had known the importance of English. It gave them a new found respect in the eyes of dehaatis and we lost our linguistically superior language and pride for mimicing the west and seek it’s approval forever.

On 15th August, 1947, Bharat gained freedom. Nehru’s first words to the crores across the nation waiting to hear from their first Prime Minister were, “Long years ago, we made a tryst with destiny….”. I again wonder, how many people really understood him and for whom was the speech meant…

[Note:- I write about India, or Bharat if you may. Bharat's politics, culture, society, revolutionaries, I have written everything, about India, for Indians. But It's ironical that i have to use a foreign language- English, to share my thoughts with my fellow countrymen! I thought about it, but could not find single good reason. More i think, deeper i get into the complexities and after effects of Slavery which we faced and still face. Writer in me would not allow me to stop with a short post and my readers would hate me if i carry on my rant. So, i will break it into parts. Special thanks to my blog-buddy Tikuli Dogra who coaxed me into writing something which i wanted to since a long time.]

I was traveling in Delhi Metro and reading a Hindi Newspaper. The college going girl sitting besides me gives a glance, first to the newspaper, then at me and i see pure disgust on her face. And why not! She was reading Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series which she considered was infinitely better than reading a hindi daily! The incident was an eye-opener. Images of people sitting in a plush office in a conference appeared in front of my eyes. Proceedings are in pure English, or what people can pass for pure English! It also reminded me of my countless visits to the various book-shops just because i love to read Hindi written by Narendra Kohli or Sharatchandra. When inquired, shopkeeper sheepishly said, “Sahab, ab Hindi padhta hi kaun hai? Shayd Purani dilli me kitaab mil jaaye.” And why should i accuse others when even i am guilty! If, by god’s grace, some unknown girl asks me for directions, i would obviously reply in English! Talking in fluent English is the hallmark which emphatically states I am literate! But am i?

I do not even know any of the Indian languages. Hindi was taught to me in school but even upon forcing myself i cannot recall anything about संज्ञा or सर्वनाम today! I am sure that 70% of the people reading this post would even not remember क ख ग घ till the end. And i bet 90% of youngsters living in metropolitan cites would consider १९४७ as something alien! . We do not have good command over any of the Indian languages! I am a Hindustani for god’s sake! And that too a proud one! I should have known my language if not anything else!

By discarding our native languages, i state native because of the deepest respect for all Indian languages which have 1000′s of years of development behind them, we choose to mimic an alien civilization try to associate with them. To reject your cultural inheritance out of genuine conviction after being shown its flaws and argued about them , is one thing, and to blindly follow an alien culture out of a sense of inferiority is quite another. Former is the act of courage but the latter is just being a mere caricature of what somebody else wants you to be.

I need to know why Indian elite speaks English and people who don’t know English are considered bloody fools? I need to understand why in a nation whose only 23% population speaks English, has all its important road signs, directions or vehicular numbers written in English? Are they not meant for being read by so called non-elite ‘intellectuals’? Why a man in his good senses can not read Dainik Jagran instead of Times of India? Why cannot i proudly speak my own language which majority of my people speak? Why do people judge others educational qualification based on how well can he speak English? And finally, why are we so crazy about a language which is spoken only in a handful of nations namely USA, UK, Australia, NZ, Canada? The search for answer takes us back in time.

Lord Macauley sailed for Bharat in February 1834 on a ship called ‘The Asia‘. On the ship he did not talk to anybody and tried very hard not to come close to the ‘Dark-Skinned’ people. Above all he was also proud of his scholarly abilities, and why wouldn’t he? He did write a remarkably well-argued essay on the desirability to convert heathens to Christianity! It was not very surprising considering the fact that his father, Zachary Macaulay, was the editor of the evangelical magazine, The christian Observer, and wanted his son to serve the Church. A great orator, he impressed the house of commons and in 1932 gained entry into the ‘Board of Control for India’ as one of the commissioners. In 1833 he was appointed as the Member of the Supreme Council to govern India with a princely package of 10,000 Pounds annually. Now, as the Asia sailed towards a people who, according to him, were sunk in the depths of slavery and superstition, Macauley sat down laying a plan to civilize the land of savages with English and Christianity. Little did he know his legacy would be continued 176 years after he set foot in India.

The future of India’s linguistic destiny fell into Macauley’s lap as soon as he arrived in India. In Calcutta, The committee of Public Instruction, set by the British to prescribe an education system to civilize Indians was deadlocked five against five. One set of people, The Orientalists, wanted education in India to be based on classical languages, Sanskrit, Persian etc. ; The others wanted the elementary education to be based on English. The Supreme council appointed Macauley as the president of this Committee in January 1835 to break the deadlock and he took very little time to do so. On 2nd February 1835, he recorded his infamous minute rubbishing everything and anything Indian.

“The question now before us is simply whether, when it is in our power to teach this language, we shall teach languages in which, by universal confession, there are no books on any subject which deserve to be compared to our own; whether, when we can teach European science, we shall teach systems which, by universal confession, whenever they differ from those of Europe, differ for the worse; and whether, when we can patronise sound Philosophy and true History, we shall countenance, at the public expense, medical doctrines, which would disgrace an English farrier [note: a horse shoe] -Astronomy, which would move laughter in girls at an English boarding school, History, abounding with kings thirty feet high, and reigns thirty thousand years long, and Geography, made up of seas of treacle and seas of butter.”

Lord Bentinck, instantly approved Macauley’s ideas and hypothesis of whites being far more superior race than the Browns and Blacks.

All public funds henceforth would be used in spreading English: no new students seeking admissions in any oriental schools or colleges would be provided stipend or scholarship, no govt. money would be used in printing anything in the native languages. Five new English medium schools were to be immediately started in Bengal.

This was the start of various ‘English Medium Schools’ you see in almost every town and village of India.

[Note: I bet you forgot! This post is to honour and remember a great leader of BHARAT whose vision resulted our self-reliance in agriculture and food.]

Today i will take force you to meet a person who set the bench mark for ‘Moral Responsibility’ and humility even after being the true leader of this nation. Meet Lal Bahadur Shastri, born on 2nd October 1904, who was also the second Prime Minister of Bharat. Shastri jee is one of the many leaders who do not easily come back to public memory despite of achieving feats which not many can claim to match.

  And guess who won!!

Before independence he actively took part in ‘Namak Aandolan’, non-cooperation movement and went door-to-door to convince people for not paying there taxes to the British government. After independence, he was taken in UP govt. by Govind Vallabh Pant as the minister of Police where he showed his knack of reforms. Due to his active and constructive role in UP politics, he was invited by Nehru to join his cabinet as the transport minister. Being the moralist he was, when a train accident took place in Tamil Nadu killing 146 passengers, he offered his resignation by accepting the Moral responsibility. Nehru accepted his resignation and said, “It will set an example for future leaders to come”. Later on he went to be the Home minister of Bharat in 1961 and did a lot to prevent corruption.

Shastri jee succeeded Nehru as the prime minister of this nation on 9th June 1964. The immediate problems he faced was a Pakistani attack and food shortage in the nation. But he tackled both the problems with will-power unmatched. He declared that “Force will be met with force” and gave a free hand to security forces to retaliate India was facing a acute shortage of food grains and USA being a staunch Pakistani supporter wanted India to stop fighting the war or it would not loan India any food. At this moment, Shastrijee stepped forward and appealed the nation to leave food once a week rather than stooping low for loan on unacceptable terms. Such was his charisma that Nation listened to it’s leader and followed him. He called the nation together by giving them the slogan of “JAI JAWAN JAI KISAAN” meaning Hail the soldier, hail the farmer. It was just a matter of time that the nation followed this extraordinary leader and sorted out the food problem by bringing out the Green Revolution and White revolution. Soldiers responded by pushing back Pakistan emphatically! And one should not forget that this nation had just seen a war and suffered badly just 3 years ago in 1962 with China.

Indo-pak war ended on 23th Sept. 1965 when UN passed a resolution and demanded ceasefire. Russian PM Kosygin, offered to mediate talks in ‘Tashkent’ on 10th Jan 1966. It should be noted that India had considerable advantage on Pakistan’s territory but Shastri Jee was found dead in his room. Many say he died because of cardiac arrests, others say he was forced to sign the treaty. The worst part is, his body was not even sent for post mortem. His wife Lalita Shastri has time and again said that her husband was killed and he did not die of natural causes but nobody paid any heed to it. Even after 44 years of his sad demise, Indian govt. has a veil of secrecy about the cause of death of Lal Bahadur Shastri. He is the only Indian Prime Minister, to have died in office, overseas.

The PMO has cited exemption from disclosure on the plea that it could harm foreign relations, cause disruption in the country and cause breach of parliamentary privileges. Significantly, while officially Shastri is declared to have died of a cardiac arrest, his wife Lalita Shastri had alleged that her husband was poisoned. Shastri died on January 11, 1966.

A truly humble soul with will-power of steel, who was determined to take the nation to glory. Lets remember him on his 106th Birthday together.

[Note: Its Bhagat Singh's Birthday today and This post is a tribute to him and his friends who lived and died for the nation. I have tried to keep the dates accurate but could not do so. For reference in this article, the months which do not have exact dates are not accurate. Surprisingly i could not find the chronology of Bhagat Singh or any of his friends, neither on the internet nor in the libraries. Its sad to see the lack of information on people who sacrificed everything for our country. I have tried to see world through his eyes and the result is here. It is far from perfect and farther from what i wanted it to be but please forgive me as this is all i could do.]

27 Sept. 1920:

I have turned 13 today. I think i can understand more now. Last year on 13th April, that monster called Reginald Dyer, ordered people to be shot at Jalianwala Bagh. I wish i could grow up fast and avenge my people! So many died. How could any human do anything like that? Gandhijee has called for non-cooperation movement. Now the Britishers will soon go back. No no.. They will be sent back by us. Gandhi jee ki Jai, Jai Hind!

5th February 1922:

How could Gandhiji call off the non-cooperation movement? Chauri-Chaura was perfectly justified. How can we ask anybody to not respond in the same currency after being beaten? When the Police beats and fires on innocent people, they do not show any humanity. Why should we? Even ‘Geeta’ says one should stand and fight injustice. Grandma says even Guru Gobind singh ji stood up and fought the invaders to save our nation, why should we not do that? I am confused. I am angry. I want to cry. I want freedom.

March 1923:

Joined National college, Lahore. If Lala Lajpat Rai had not started National college, students like me would have been devastated. We left our old DAV college on Gandhiji’s call for non cooperation movement and then were left for nothing after the movement was called off. I know i have to study. Not because i want to earn more, but because i want to open my mind. I need to know what is going on in the world, without which our country will not progress.

August 1923:

I love this college. Just discussed about Italian patriot Mazzini and political figure Garibaldi. There views were impressive. Learnt a lot about Russian revolution too. Will have to read more about Marx! Socialism looks like a good option to end our nations miseries.

September 1923:

Joined Dramatics society too. It seems to be a very easy medium to communicate with poor audience and make them understand the importance of various things. They cannot read or write. Colleges and schools remain the indulgence of rich after the indigenous system of education has been destroyed by the Brits. Every thing i start thinking ends up on the British. I need to do something. Either forget about it as an mental instability or fight them till they really go out. Ha ha ha… what am i thinking. Even i know what i will do!

October 1923:

Something important is in store for me in future. This year has been so important. Met many like minded friends. B.K Dutt, Jaidev, Sukhdev, Shiv, Ajay Ghosh and teachers like Vidyalankar jee.

January 1924:

Bapuji wants me to marry. I have decided not to. Both my uncles Sardar Ajit singh and Swaran Singh died in armed struggle against the British. I do not wish to leave a grieving widow behind. Life is too tough for them. I will leave home but would not marry. Nobody should suffer till eternity because of me.

April 1924:

Reached Kanpur. Wonder why the Brits call it ‘Cawnpore’! I am carrying Vidyalankar Jee’s letter of introduction. Joining HRA had been a dream since i heard about them. ‘Hindustan Republican Association’, founded by Sachindranath Sanyal, looks like a party which believes in direct action. Met the likes of Chandra Shekhar ‘Azad’ and Ram Prasad Bismil. What was i doing all these days! Living here has made me believe more and more in the concept of armed rebellion against the imperialists. There is no other way out.

August 1924:

Recruitment is going smoothly. In every village we visit, we find people who are angry and want to avenge the deaths of their liked ones.

November 1924:

Attacked the police again when they tried to stop us from distributing pamphlets. Police interference has been on a steady rise. Have decided to go back to Lahore for a few days.

March 1925:

‘Naujawan Bharat Sabha’ is now up and running smoothly. Our fiery speeches and bold statements have made us a favourite amongst masses and even the leaders are now recognizing our potent

ial. There have been some instances where they have wanted to plant somebody in the ‘Sabha’ to know more about us. Plays and helping flood victims is few of the things Sabha does and will keep on doing. We believe in humanity and unity. Our motto bears 3 letters, ‘SSS’. ‘Service’, ‘Sacrifice’ and ‘Suffereing’.

9th August 1925:

Comrades Bismil, Azad, Sachindra Bakshi, Rajendra Lahiri, Manmathnath Gupta, Mukundi Lal and Ashfaqullah Khan executed Kakori Train robbery today. Proud moment for HRA. From today onwards we use our own money which was looted by Britishers for liberating our nation.

15th March 1926:

My article written on ‘Babbar Akali movement’ has been published in ‘Pratap’ where i have tried to justify the movement’s aim of liberating our lands from Brtish and the Gurudwaras from corrupt Mahants through an armed intervention.

The accused in The Kakori Kand were sentenced today. They risked there lives and people in mainstream parties mock them. Penned an article, “Kaakori ke Veeron se parichay’. Added a couple of lines for people who do nothing but to watch.

‘We sigh and think we have done our duty. We do not have that fire, we do not suffer, for we have become corpses. Today they are sitting on a Hunger-Strike and suffering and we are silently watching the show. May God grant them the strength and courage they need in their last few days’.

29th May 1927:

Today i was arrested for the first time on charges of sedition and bomb blasts. The real reason why they arrested me is that they are afraid of my articles published in ‘Kirti’ and ‘Pratap’. They doubt me of being involved in ‘Kakori conspiracy’ too. I am ready! Lets see who breaks first! I chose the pseudo pen-name ‘Vidrohi’, not for nothing! Will write about ‘Anarchism’ now.

May 1928:

People call us terrorists. Please do not equate violence with crime for when patriots take up arms for the sake of their country and its safety, when they eliminate exploitation and oppression or when they avenge the injustice done to the oppressed and go to the gallows, they use violence but they do not spread terror’. The distinction between crime and terrorism, although both use violence, is based on the intention of those who use it. The ideals of ‘bravery, courage, martyrdom, the ability to use weapons, generosity, duty etc., dependent on the application of force are now considered base and unqualified’.

September 1928:

HRA is now HSRA (Hindustan Socialist republican association) and we believe in socialism as our ideal from now on. Bengali revolutionaries led by Phanindra Nath Ghosh have also joined us in this common cause of liberty.

17th November 1928:

Lalaji passed away today after being brutally assaulted by a young British officer…in front of our eyes and we could not do anything…!!! His sacrifice will not go unnoticed. Come what may, We will take our revenge! Scott will have to die!

17th December 1928:

Made a terrible mistake today. Killed Saunders instead of Scott. It has created a massive furore. Will have to leave Lahore as soon as possible.

March 1929:

British government wants to make the ‘Defence of India Act’ tougher and grant more powers to Police. Farmers are already burdened and they are planning to add to that burden. Laborers will be crushed by the proposed “Trade Dispute bill”. This will mean disaster for the common people and our representatives in parliament will keep on passing papers and requesting the queen. We need to do something to make the Britishers hear our voice. I intend to throw bombs in the parliament. Will discuss this with comrades soon.

9th April 1929:

Batukeshwar Dutta and me are ready to throw bombs in the parliament when the bill is about to be passed. The bombs have been prepared in such a way that they wont harm anybody. No sharpnels, very little chemicals. Today the Britishers will be forced to hear our voice. Then we will give ourselves to the police just after throwing leaflets in the air for anybody who cares to read them.

6th June 1929:

Have been awarded transportation for life! Elated! The entire trial was a mockery but it gave us a platform to voice our opinion. We are no more ‘irresponsible terrorists’ in the eyes of people, as we were often projected. We are as much responsible in our activities as mainstream leaders are. ‘INQUILAB ZINDABAD’! Longlive revolution, down with Imperialism!

2nd July 1929:

We have started an indefinite hunger strike jail for clean food and our basic human rights. Lets see who wins this battle!

10th July 1929:

The trial for ‘Lahore Conspiracy case’ has started. The government itself will give us the platform we needed the most. None of us will offer any defence but use this dais to spread our views. The message of ‘Inquilab’ is reaching the youth. Just waiting for the day when entire India stands up against these invaders, what a sight would it be.

July 1929:

All of us have been shifted to one jail! The atmosphere is full of fun again. Sad part is, these guys have started fasting too. I did not want them to but who can stop a revolutionary. And that too the revolutionaries are people like Sukhdev, Rajguru, Jatin da!!

July 1929:

They can’t beat us up to do what they want. Our bodies get stronger with every stick we face. Every now and then they try to make us eat, but a revolutionary fighting for his nation is gifted with extraordinary willpower. That day we again were beaten up on ice slabs. The shouts of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ and ‘Vande Matram’ keep us going. At the time when the body is freezing, these slogans and songs fill us with anger and remind us why we are fighting.

13th September 1929:

Britishers succumb to our demand after 63 days of Hunger strike. We lost Jatin da today. I don’t know if we won or lost… He was the finest son of Mother India.

November 1929:

The court room has become our propaganda office! Rather than offering defence, we are using it to spread our thoughts and newspapers say our thoughts are spreading like wildfire. We do not need ‘Dominion Status‘ as Congress demands. This is our nation and ‘Total Independence’ is our birth right. We will take it by force! Nobody can stop us from being free. What have we achieved with these philosophies of ‘Non-violence’ and ‘love’? Jalianwala Bagh massacre and growing rift between Hindus and Muslims? To hell with imperialism.

30th January 1930:

Congress declared the war-cry for ‘Total Independence’ today. At least now they know what the common public of India wants!

February 1930:

Viceroy has passed an ordnance according to which courtrooms don’t need our presence in them anymore. They can now operate even without the accused so that whatever sentences they have predetermined can be implemented on us. How low can British Govt. stoop. Shame!

February 1930:

Bijoy Kumar Sinha, Gaya Prasad, Kishori lal, Mahabir Singh, Shiv verma, Jaidev, Kamal Nath Tiwary have been awarded Trasportation for life. Rajguru, Sukhdev and me have been sentenced to death. The atmosphere is celebratory as this is what we always wanted. This was inevitable and not something we never visualised! Three of us have been shifted to the condemned cells today.

27th February 1930:

Panditjee sacrificed his life today for the nation. One more revolutionary has passed away but not before enlightening thousands of hearts with passion for freedom. He justified his name and kept his promise. ‘Azad‘ he always was and ‘Azad’ he always would be…!

23rd March 1930:

There seems to be a change in atmosphere today at the jail. Looks like we will be hanged before the schedule! God! How could you let these cowards rule over us! Our sacrifice will not be wasted. As long as there will be sun, moon or starts in the sky, people of BHARAT will take inspiration from us and fight injustice. We will always live in there hearts and souls. VANDE MATRAM!

27th September 2010:

Our nation needs us again…. Maa…we are coming….
