HS/HSL on iTunes U

The University of Maryland, Baltimore has launced an iTunes U site. The HS/HSL is part of this site and you can view or download a variety of tutorials on many topics including Creating a RefWorks Account, Keyword Searching in CINAHL, and Medline: Locating the Evidence. Just make sure your computer has iTunes downloaded on it and you can then view tutorials whenever you want or even take them on the go with you on your iPod, iTouch, or iPhone. Public Computer Update: Files Saved on Computers

Later in June, the library will be updating all public computers. When this update is completed any files, documents, pdfs, and images that are saved on public computers will be erased each night. If you are using on of the library's computers please make sure to save your work to a thumb drive or email it to yourself. You will not be able to come back and retrieve files that you have saved the day before. If you have further questions, please contact the Reference Desk at 410-706-7996.

Swine Flu Resources

We are monitoring, along with colleagues at the National Library of Medicine, developments in the Swine Flu outbreak. The HS/HSL will continue to provide authoritative, current information on the flu.

"Learned in Science, Explored in Art" - New Exhibit

From April 9 - June 30, 2009, the Weise Gallery will feature the work of Dr. Wolfgang Ritschel, Professor of Pharmacology and Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. His vibrant paintings brilliantly combine expressionism and fauvism and explore the world of medicine through visual art. The Library will host a gallery reception and opening on Thursday, April 16 from 4:30 - 6:00 pm.

Tutorials on demand@HS/HSL

Want to learn how to use some of the Library's electronic resources more effectively? Learn how to use important library resources as well as techniques needed to be an effective researcher by exploring the Library Savvy tutorials.
A variety of on-demand, self-paced, interactive tutorials have been added to the Library's Online Tutorials page . Pick and choose the tutorial you need and work at your own pace.
The tutorials run between 5 to 30 minutes each.

Free Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery for UMB Students!

Effective Thursday, January 22nd, all UMB students will receive interlibrary loan and document delivery requests electronically and free of charge. Interlibrary loans are items borrowed from other libraries while document delivery refers to items that are held in the HS/HSL collection.

Spring 2009 Workshops

The library will once again be offering a wide range of workshops that are free to all UMB Faculty, Staff, and Students. Most workshops are taught on Tuesdays and Wednesday from 12pm-1pm. New workshops this semester include Evidence-Based Social Work and and Multicultural Health Information. The library will also be offering Workshops On Demand. You can request certain workshops that are not part of the regular schedule to be taught. For a full listing of workshop descriptions and schedule click here.

Watch the Presidential Inauguration at the HS/HSL

New Exhibit at the Weise Gallery

Diggs Johnson Middle School Urban Art Exhibit

Students have been asked to create a piece of art based on Keith Haring's style that expresses an urban scene. The use of contours and iconic shapes with very simple basic colors is typical of Keith Haring's work.

The exhibit will run from January 9, 2009 - January 23, 2009.

Every December the Library sponsors a holiday door decorating contest and invites departments from throughout the building to compete for the title of most festive door. This year we are letting you have a say on what door you the most. This year a Campus Choice Award will be given to the door with the most votes from UMB Faculty, Staff, and Students.
