Hotel Rodney

This post is long overdue. But here are some of the details from our beach trip to Lewes (pronounced Lewis), Delaware in September.

We stayed in Hotel Rodney...

Located on...

Market Street. You may have remembered that we stayed in this hotel last fall for a wedding.

We went to a wonderful Farmer's Market with lots of fresh flowers,

veggies,

and delicious smelling pies!

Rest and Relaxation

We spent a couple days at the beach catching up on rest and relaxation. There is something about sitting by the water that instantly makes me happy. Maybe it brings back memories of all the summers I spent going to the beach with my family or at the pool. I don't know but whatever it is I wish I could bottle it up and bring it home for those days of long commutes and grueling hours at work.

Off To The Beach...

We are off to Lewes, Delaware for some fun in the sun and relaxing by the beach.

I can't wait. I made a list of places I want to eat at. You all know how much I love to eat and try new places. Here are a few of the places on my list:

Fortune Cookie

Have you had a fortune cookie lately? This is mine from a few weeks ago...

Past experience: He who never makes mistakes never did anything that's worthy.

I know I have made plenty of mistakes in my life. Each mistake has taught me a valuable lesson. At times my mistakes have been painful, but I have grown from the experiences and it makes me a better person in the end. So, I totally agree with this fortune and was grateful for getting it!

How To Organize Your Child's Artwork

Is your child's artwork in a pile like this?

My mom saved all of my artwork from my childhood and it was in a pile until I decided to organize it. She saw the little artist in me from day one and couldn't part with it. I love you mom for always supporting me.

I started this project by organizing my artwork into themes. For instance, I went through a loving to draw rainbows and my family phase so I put all of these pictures together under "rainbows" and "family" themes.

Next, I found a black sheet and placed all of my drawings on the sheet to photograph them. This is a great way to archive and remember your child's artwork forever.

Here is my first signature on my artwork. Too funny!

Looking Through the Rear View Mirror

I have spent a majority of my life looking backwards.

Basically, reviewing my past and deciding how I would change different aspects of it. That my friends is a thing of the past for me. I will not spend anymore energy on the past. Unless, it is for positive memories of fun times like sitting in St. Barth's enjoying San Pellegrino and wine.

La Dolce Vita- Part 2

As you know, from my last post my husband and I were in Hershey, Pennsylvania for the 4th of July. In this post, I want to introduce you to the Chocolate Lab.

The Chocolate Lab is inside The Hershey Story- The Museum On Chocolate Avenue.

You will need to purchase tickets earlier in the day because the lab sells out fast. We purchased the last two tickets for a 5:15 pm class. Since this was the last lab of the day, everyone waiting in line behind us had to come back the following day.

The class runs for 45 minutes and is in a special class room.

You first create your chocolate bar and then while it is drying there is a short lecture about chocolate. This lecture is fun and interesting and isn't like a class in college.

I made a flag for my chocolate bar.

While waiting for our Chocolate Lab class, we went to the Hershey Gardens. These gardens are located near The Hotel Hershey and there is a small admission fee. You will want to give yourself a few hours to walk through the gardens.

La Dolce Vita- Part 1

For the 4th of July this year, I was living the "sweet life" or the "good life" in Hershey, PA. If you are a chocolate lover you need to take a trip to Hershey. Run do not walk to your nearest computer and book your tickets now. You will not regret it.

These are the trip plans that I would recommend booking.

1. Stay at The Hotel Hershey.

The inside of the hotel is beautiful and elegant.

2. Visit the Chocolate Lab (make sure to book your tickets early because it sells out fast).

You learn all about making chocolate in this lab. Plus a chocolate lab wouldn't be complete unless you get to make a chocolate bar! This was a lot of fun and I would highly recommend it.

3. Explore the gardens.

4. Enjoy the amusement park.

Furbie and Lion

Thank you to everyone who left comments, emailed, and called me about the loss of Buzz. You are all very kind and it meant a lot to me and my family. I am grateful to have you all in my life.

Pets do become a part of your family and they weave through memories and chapters in your life. I have fond memories of my pets throughout my childhood. Now, I making memories with Furbie (the cat we adopted earlier this year).

This is what I get to come home to, Furbie and the stuffed animal lion sitting on the bed.

Happy Birthday To My Blog

My blog is a year old now. Can you believe it? Happy 1st Birthday little blog!

I have decided to make some layout changes for my blog's birthday. You will notice a few changes like the background colors, image at the top, and size of pictures. Hopefully, this will enhance your experience at my blog. But most of all I wanted to try something different for this upcoming year.

I have been an emotional wreck the past few days. We had to put our family dog to sleep yesterday. His name is Buzz and he is a pug. Buzz is and was the best dog. He had a way of making you so happy and he was so loving. I didn't get to spend as much time with him as I would have liked for various reasons. I left for college soon after my parents brought him home as a puppy. But each time I came home from school he was eager to greet me at the door and wag his cute little curly tail.

He brought so much happiness to our lives and our family. Pets have a way of making everything better in the world. They look up at you with those wonderful eyes and you just melt.

I love you Buzz! You are in my heart forever. Rest in peace Buzzy!

Random Acts of Kindness

I like to do random acts of kindness. It makes me feel good inside. Plus life is hard for EVERYONE at times and a little act of kindness can go a long way to improving some one's day or outlook on life.

My random act of kindness that I like to do is randomly put money in car meters. I like to be a meter fairy.

Hopefully, I have saved a few people from getting parking tickets in Arlington, Bethesda, and DC over the years.

Beach & Ice Cream

After dangling my feet in the "ice" cold ocean water we headed to a new place for some ice cream. By the way, the water was especially cold. You really couldn't stay in the water for long. Or at least I couldn't stay in the water long!

We discovered these silos on our drive to the beach. Actually, my husband pointed them out and said, "I think the ice cream cones on the silos mean that they sell ice cream."

I am a general food lover but my favorite food is ICE CREAM.

I would highly recommend this creamery if you are going to Rehoboth Beach Delaware. It was creamy, smooth, and delicious.

While standing in line to get my ice cream cone a little girl in front of me said, "I want the cone with the pointy bottom." Hahahaha....

From now on when I order my sugar cones I am going to think of that little girl and her "pointy bottom" comment.

This place will be a family tradition for sure.

Thank you to all of the men and women who serve our country and for all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. I am forever grateful to you and your families. I think about this daily because I know the cost of freedom and how lucky we are live in this great nation.

Get your measuring spoons ready...

It is time to make banana muffins. I love making banana muffins on the weekends. Yummy!

Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
4 ripe bananas, peeled and coarsely mashed

Instructions:

Line 18 muffin cups with paper liners. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Whisk the flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl to blend. Beat the sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl to blend. Stir in the banana. Add the dry ingredients and stir just until blended.

Divide the batter among the prepared muffin cups. Bake the muffins on the middle rack until the tops are golden brown and a tester inserted into the center comes out with no crumbs attached, about 25 minutes. Transfer the muffins to a rack and cool slightly.

Enjoy your muffins...

That is where I have been. I need to get more organized so I can start blogging on a more regular basis again. I haven't taken pictures in over a month. I can't believe that either. I miss it.
