Well, long time no-see! Wow! Has it seriously been almost a month and a half since I posted here?!

First off, I apologize! I absolutely love this blog and, of course, the books that inspire it, but lately life has gotten so crazy I simply cannot keep up! I've been dealing with my fiance's deployment, recently started a full-time job, continuing going to school full-time, AND we're moving soon! It has been a handful!

With that being said, I'm not throwing in the towel. I still fully intend to come back to my blog and bring it back to life -- I just can't say when that will be. Hopefully, everything will calm down after the move and I can find some me time again.

In the mean time, thanks for hanging in there! I promise when I do make it back, it will be worth the wait!

Claire: Good afternoon, Caradoc. Thanks for taking the time to meet with me today.

Caradoc: Always a pleasure. Though I cannot guarantee I can answer all your questions, I shall share what I am able.

Claire: Understood. Actually, I wanted to talk a little about you today. You’re more reserved than many of the knights we’ve met in Immortal Hope. Is there a particular reason why?

Caradoc: I am second in command, and answer only to Merrick and the archangel Mikhail. With that position comes responsibility that I hold dear. I am a knight, above all things, and my duty is foremost to the Order.

Claire: So a man of honor, definitely. Duty-bound. Driven by oaths – would you say as much as Merrick?

Caradoc: Indeed.

Claire: What brought you to the Knights Templar, if you don’t mind my asking?

Caradoc: ‘Twas a choice I made on my own. I knew Merrick for quite some time. He asked, he spared no detail. I agreed to serve under him.

Claire: Even at the expense of your own happiness? Sacrificing all your property, your wealth…?

Caradoc: Aye. Those are material objects. ‘Tis what matters here (he sets a fist over his heart) that makes a difference.

Claire: Very true, and very sage. Now, you’re English, right? What about the others?

Caradoc: I hail from Briton, aye. From Asterleigh. ‘Tis a non-existant place in this world you know now, but ‘twas once beyond beauty. Merrick hails from France, though we fought many battles together in our youth. He came north, to strike against his uncle. Farran and Tane are also Frenchmen. Lucan shares my heritage, and Declan hails from the far north, a Scottsman through and through.

Claire: And there are others, right? In fact, as I understand it, the Templar are a conglomeration of heritages. How’s that happen?

Caradoc: In our heyday we were vast. We had enough members to form our own nation, though we were not all knights. Many laymen were employed for our various needs – to build for us, to craft armor for us, to keep our horses fit.

Claire: I see. So the Templar world isn’t just about knights and swords.

Caradoc: Nay, though it has become such now.

Claire: Right. With the fighting of Azazel and the immortal oaths. I’m curious – when you took your pledge, was it painful?

Caradoc: The only pain that presented are the aches that plague me now. I have been chosen to suffer in a manner unlike my brethren.

Claire: Why’s that? I sense a story.

Caradoc: I do not know the precise reason. I know only that it began when I turned my back on one who mattered above all the rest.

Claire: Ooooh… now that sounds like something our readers would really like to know more about. Details, please!

Caradoc: Nay, milady. ‘Tis a subject delegated to my past. ‘Tis no sense in dwelling on what cannot be undone. My duty is to continue on. I accept that willingly and will not delve into the shadows on my soul. Should I, I am certain I would falter.

Claire: I have to confess, that gives me the shivers. (And though I didn’t tell him, I was dying to know more. He, however was clearly unwilling to entertain my curiosity.) One last question, Caradoc – who’s the next seraph?

Caradoc: I know only that Anne’s sister, Sophie is destined to join our ranks. When, or where her place shall fall is known only unto Gabriel.

Claire: Drat! I was hoping we might get a little sneak peek at what to expect next. I guess we’ll just have to wait. Thank you, Caradoc, for spending some time with me. I know you’re busy. I’ll let you get back to what I’m sure is a mountain of tasks assigned by Mikhail.

Caradoc: Aye, I must return to teaching Anne how to wield a sword. It appears she and Merrick cannot see eye-to-eye long enough to move past the holding of the blade. Good day to you, milady.

Sounds like Merrick and Anne have a bit of trouble relating to one another. Let’s take a peek at this short excerpt and see if Caradoc’s correct:

EXCERPT:

“Merrick, wait,” she called softly.

“Nay,” he answered on a hard swallow. “Nay, Anne. If I stay another moment, I will have you in that bed.” He shoved a hand through his hair and reached for the doorknob.

“But that’s where I want you,” she whispered.

He nodded once, a sharp dip of his chin. Pulling the door open, he answered, “I know.” Another protest, and he would turn right back to her waiting arms, cart her off to that oversized bed. When he finished with her, he would hate himself.

He entered the hall and shut the door.

Determination narrowed his gaze as he descended the stairs. He trained his thoughts to his cousin, focused on the oath he swore to Fulk. The very moment Anne discovered her intended, he vowed to leave. No sacred nail, no protected relic, no other oath would he honor until he fulfilled the promise to his kin. In so doing, he would free himself from this torment and lift his blade in Azazel’s name. It was a price he no longer feared to pay.

Holiday Break

I am taking a little holiday hiatus from the blog this year. I have a lot going on and will be traveling for much of the holidays, so I'm going to spend that time with family (and perhaps play catch up on my reading) so I will be putting off any further blog posts until the New Year!

From My Point of View:

Likes: I loved the storyline for this book! It was cute, quirky, and unique!

Dislikes: Though I loved the storyline, there were a few details I wasn't thrilled with: the biggest being the producers and their scheming. I don't work in the entertainment industry, so I don't know how realistic it would really be, but a few of the details bothered me, which means a) it was well written or b) it was way off base. Hard for me to tell!

Why 3 stars: Maddie was a little too strong willed for me. I am so different from her character that I found it hard to relate to her and her life.

Recommendation: A fun read for chick lit fans!

But he never expected this hellion to have the smarts and the spunk to go from receptionist to repo agent in record time...or to drive him insane with desire. She's the last thing this tall, dark, and dangerous loner needs...and everything he never knew he wanted.

From My Point of View:

Likes: I love Graves' books. She does such a fabulous job getting me into the story! I fall in love with the characters and get to the point where I literally cannot put the book down. I had to read this whole book in one setting... it was that good!

Dislikes: I did not like that there was no closure with the husband. He up and left Darcy and was never heard from again. I would have liked to see something between them before the story wrapped up.

Why 4 stars: I would have liked to see the husband, so I felt unfulfilled by the ending in this way.

Recommendation: Perfect for fans of chick lit and romance.

It's that time again: another US vs UK challenge! US vs UK was created by Jenny from Wondrous Reads. Thank you, Jenny for being so brilliant! =)

This month I thought we'd take a look at a Jill Mansell book! She always has the cutest covers. =) As usual US is on the left and UK is on the right!

Both books a pretty similar, but I like the coloring of the US book better. The bright colors make the book look happier. I also like the art used on it better. Not to mention, there is just something about that gold on the UK cover that turns me away. So, I guess that means the US wins the round! =)

From My Point of View:

Likes: I love how 11 books into a series, Harris can keep the story rolling. I don't feel like this story was simple a continuation just to keep the series alive, but it really did add to the story of Sookie. I would like to see some answers as far as her future, but maybe those will come in the future.

Dislikes: I was really unhappy that there was no resolution between Sookie and Eric in this book. It felt off to me to leave it for another book.

Why 4 stars: I wanted answers! =) I'm hoping for them in the next book!

Recommendation: Dead Reckoning is perfect for all Sookie fans and all vampire lovers in general.

From My Point of View:

Likes: I was hesitant to read (listen to) a book in this series about a non-brother, but I quickly found that I loved Rhev just as much as I loved all of the brothers. I also really enjoyed the audiobook version of this book. The reader did a great job and I found myself wanting to go for a drive just to listen to the book!

Dislikes: Well aside from a few characters I disliked (ahem, the Princess), there really wasn't much to dislike about this book. Ward has written another winner!

Why 4 stars: While this book was FANTASTIC, it wasn't my favorite book in the series, so I only gave it 4 stars. Zsadist still remains my favorite.

Recommendation: Definitely a great read for all fans of vampires and the Brotherhood.

Awww! I love this question!! My favorite soldier happens to be real: he is my fiance! He's currently saving the world on his first deployment. It's been an interesting ride, for sure, but he is good at what he does and loving it! Of course, I couldn't be more proud of him and all of our troops!

Let's Talk Moneyball!

I'm a big fan of books turned into movies, so today, we're talking about Moneyball, a movie based on not only a real life event, but also a book written by Michael Lewis.

It is nothing unusual for Hollywood to adapt books into films, as literature is one of the steadiest suppliers of new stories and ideas. In fact, most people don't realize just how many of the movies they see are at least loosely based on a novel, or short story. What is more unusual is to see a successful film that is based on a book that isn't presented in novel form. Yet this is exactly the formula that Hollywood and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin followed in adapting Michael Lewis's interesting baseball book, Moneyball. The result was undeniably one of the best films of 2011, and a film that you will definitely want to catch on TV By Direct as soon as it's available.

Michael Lewis's book was essentially an exposition on a new method of fielding a winning team in professional baseball, as experimented by the 2002 Oakland Athletics. It is no secret, among baseball fans at least, that Major League Baseball does not (as some other professional leagues do) impose a salary cap on its teams. The result of this is that "big market" teams such as the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, which make enormous amounts of money, are able to spend more bringing in great players than smaller market teams like the Athletics, who do not have comparable budgets. Because of this problem, some of the men behind the 2002 Athletics, and their manager Billy Beane, devised a new strategy in attacking the free agent market. Placing heavy emphasis on on-base percentage, rather than average or homeruns, the Athletics began to value free agents differently, and managed to bring in a competitive team far more cheaply, leading to one of the most successful seasons in team history.

The film, of course, turns this principle into a retelling of the actual story of the 2002 season, and the weeks and months before it in which the strategy was devised. With Brad Pitt playing the part of now-legendary manager Billy Beane, the film depicts in a very accurate way what it was like for the Athletics' management to take the risk of bringing in a team that didn't seem to make sense on paper. Through a very appealing performance by Pitt, a well-captured atmosphere, and the brilliant screenplay from Aaron Sorkin, we are given what seems to be a very accurate picture of just how the 2002 Athletics came to be, and how their methods changed the nature of baseball and free agency for both small and big market teams going forward.
