The bride belonged to an elite group of student monitors who used to lepak (malay slang to ‘chill’) along the staircases back in secondary school. My soul mate (who had been associated with this bunch by default) was an automatic choice for the role of a ‘staircase gang’ jie-me (ala bridal party). She was also subsequently double-tasked to put up a special poetry recital at the wedding reception (yeah we know it’s tough being a ‘gang member’). Overall, it was a smooth wedding apart from the ‘gate-crashing’ segment – which was somewhat of a misnomer as the groom’s band-of-brothers had arrived way ahead of schedule and sneakily sashayed their way into the ‘unguarded’ house unopposed! =P

Wishing the couple a lifetime of happiness and loads of enjoyable experiences as they advance their careers in the Philippnes!

Hyped as the wedding blockbuster of the year, it truly lived up to the occasion. Right from the intricate detailing of the wedding favors down to the attire for some of the guests who had flown in from overseas, there was no doubt that tons of preparation work were involved but all the hard work would have been of no avail if yours truly had not documented the event. In my own personal capacity, I had to fulfill two main objectives. First and foremost, this was my maiden attempt at covering a malay wedding in its full entirety. Witnessing the akad nikah (solemnization) and immersing myself in the fanfare of the bersanding (ceremony), being conferred the most esteemed role of the official photographer was a behemothic task with so much to cover and look out for hence I had to approach each and every segment fervently! Secondly, the groom is my friend and buddy whom I had shared many comical, perculiar or uncanny encounters over the past seventeen years. This was his big big day and here I am sharing with you my perspective of the weekend’s proceedings. =)

{The Adventure of TinTin ~ a series of comic strips by Belgian artist George Remi (1907-1983). Tintin, a young Belgian reporter, is the hero in the series. He is aided in his adventure from the beginning by his faithful fox terrier dog Snowy. Whether the groom’s courtship adventures paralleled Tintin’s or if the sheepdog the bride analogously referred to as Snowy or the groom for the matter remains to be told as they now embark on ‘mini adventures’ of their own as husband and wife. NB: TinTin’s coincidentally also yours truly’s favorite childhood comic champion.}

The groom was an ex-colleague and now a friend whom I have kept in touch with (over meals and the occasional projects) since 2007. Slightly over a year ago, we met up to discuss their wedding theme and also to meet for the first time his bride-to-be, Vilma. I am truly glad that this day finally arrived and as I sat through to edit the pictures I could genuinely feel the love between the couple and how it magnificently manifested itself through their words and actions. There were buckets of tears shed at the ceremony but only tears of joy!

Congratulations Donny & Vilma, you guys were truly awesome! =D

I first met this lovely couple back in 2006 at another fabulously lovely couple’s wedding. =)

Fast forward to the present, several facets of my life and career had witnessed significant developments:

• Hitting the big three-zero in 2007 meant that physically lugging around heavy equipment is no longer a joke
• Turning photography into a full-time career involves a higher stress level never imagined as clients’ expectation of your ability increases
• Keeping the passion (in photography) alive is harder than I thought as one’s actions, behaviors and thoughts become more business-oriented
  
• Last but best of all, running this little business provides me with the flexibility and freedom to do the things I want to at my own pace and time!
  

Thank you both Su-Lynn and Su-Yin for entrusting me with the highly demanding task of creating snapshots of your big day and finally, here’s wishing both sets of couples a beautiful union of lives together!
