Conjoined Twins Celebrate Reaching Landmark Age

It wasn’t technically a birthday but Ronnie and Donnie Galyon celebrated a big milestone when they officially outlived the original “Siamese” twins, Eng and Chang Bunker.

The Galyon twins celebrated turning 62 years, 8 months and 7 days old at a block party thrown by their brother Jim Galyon and his wife along with plenty of friend and neighbors.

Jim Galyon told ABC News he had promised his brothers a party when they finally reached their goal of living past the famous conjoined Bunker twins, who were a popular sideshow act in the 1800’s.

“I had promised ‘You get there, we’re going to have a really big bash,'” Jim Galyon told ABC News. “We’ve had a lot of friends and family coming in from five different states and local neighbors.”

Dubai to build climate-controlled 'city', largest mall

Dubai (AFP) - Dubai is planning to build a temperature-controlled city featuring the world's largest mall and an indoor park, as well as hotels, health resorts and theatres, the developer said.

Already home to one of the globe's biggest indoor shopping complexes, Dubai Mall, the glitzy emirate known for its love of grandiose projects said it is now planning to build the "Mall of the World".

The all-pedestrian complex would occupy a total area of 48 million square feet (4.45 million square metres), said Dubai Holding, the developer owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum.

The project "will comprise the largest indoor theme park in the world" under a glass dome that would be opened during winter, it said in a statement.

The seven-kilometre (4.35 mile)-long promenades connecting the facilities would also be covered and air-conditioned during summer, it added.

"Our ambitions are higher than having seasonal tourism. Tourism is key driver of our economy and we aim to make the UAE an attractive destination all year long," said Sheikh Mohammed.

"This is why we will start working on providing pleasant temperature-controlled environments during the summer months."

The statement issued late on Saturday did not say when construction would begin, nor did it reveal the cost of the project.

Dubai hopes the "Mall of the World" can attract more than 180 million visitors each year.

The emirate is known for its numerous malls and many hotels, including the Dubai Mall, touted as the world's largest shopping, leisure and entertainment destination. It is also home to the world's tallest tower, Burj Khalifa.

Dubai has established itself as a global hub for air transport and transit trade, as well as a regional financial centre.

And it beat off opposition from Brazil, Russia and Turkey in November to win the right to host the World Expo trade fair in 2020.

The emirate's economy was hit in 2009 by the global financial crisis, but it has since made a strong comeback, thanks to growth in the trade, transport and tourism sectors.

KFC Chicken Turns Out To Be Deep-Fried Paper Towel (PHOTOS)

A mother in Newcastle, England was horrified when her stepson bit into a deep-fried blue paper towel, the Mirror reported last week.

Krystal Henderson, 29, and 7-year-old Oliver Hallam purchased takeout from a KFC branch in Killingsworth, according to the Express. At home, Oliver took a bite out of what he assumed was chicken, but recoiled seconds later.

"He pulled it out of his mouth and when he did, it pulled away the batter - you could see the blue roll inside," Henderson said, according to the Daily Mail.

Henderson said that realizing Oliver had bitten into a paper towel was worse than if it had just been bad chicken.

"If it was bad chicken they might have just had a bad batch or something," she said. "But the blue roll could have been used for anything - it could have bleach or disinfectant on it … Had someone wiped their hands on it, had it been used to wipe the floor?"

KFC investigated the incident and, in May, sent Henderson an apology letter, explaining
"the blue tissue has most likely originated from a tissue roll used for KFC hygiene purposes. The store assume it must have fallen unseen into the breading lug that is under the sieve and was not noticed by the cook."

A spokesperson for KFC made the following statement, obtained by the Mirror:

We're very sorry for Ms Henderson's experience and apologized to her immediately, as well as giving her a refund at the time of the incident.

We take food quality and hygiene very seriously and unfortunately, on this extremely rare occasion, our restaurant failed to meet the high standards that both we and our customers expect.

We have retrained staff on our stringent food preparation procedures at this store to ensure this doesn't happen again.

The company also offered Henderson a free meal.

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (AP) — Ohio brothers hoping to be recognized later this year as the world's oldest conjoined twins plan to celebrate Saturday as they hit a milestone they've been looking forward to for years.

Donnie and Ronnie Galyon of Beavercreek will be 62 years, 8 months and 7 days old, and they'll have outlived Eng and Chang Bunker, the famous 19th century "Siamese Twins."

"They are talking about it constantly, day in and day out," their younger brother, Jim Galyon, told the Dayton Daily News as he planned a celebratory block party. "They've been marking their calendar off every day, counting down to the day, so it's a huge life event for Donnie and Ronnie."

What they really want, though, is recognition from Guinness World Records. That could happen in October, when they would turn 63 and pass the record held by conjoined twins from Italy.

"It's what me and Donnie's always dreamed about, and we hope to get the ring, because we've dreamed about getting this since we were kids," Ronnie Galyon told the newspaper.

The brothers, who are joined at the abdomen, live with Jim and his wife in Beavercreek. The couple began caring for the twins around the clock four years ago, when the men were in poor health and the community helped with a $170,000 renovation to the home.

"It was to the point where they couldn't do anything on their own anymore," Jim Galyon told the Dayton paper.

The twins performed in carnival sideshows and circuses until retiring in 1991 and now spend most of their time in a special bed created by a team from Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, The Grand Rapids Press reported. The slightly offset backrests face each other, and the twins relax with their legs splayed, rather than taking turns lying on top of each other on a queen-sized bed as they used to do.

Their health has improved in recent years, and their sister-in-law Mary Galyon credits the bed as one factor.

Now they're regularly able to get up on their own, and they take outings such as fishing, baseball games and visiting restaurants, the Michigan paper reported.

Malaysia flight disappearance looking more like a sinister act

The prime minister says it appears somebody on board deliberately shut down communications and tracking systems of missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370. Police searched the pilot's home Saturday.

Police searched the home of the pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370 on Saturday, shortly after Prime Minister Najib Razak said it appeared somebody aboard had deliberately shut down the plane’s communications and tracking systems and turned it away from its intended flight path.

Though Mr. Najib would not speculate whether the jet had been hijacked, he said that its unusual deviation westward was “consistent with deliberate action by someone on the plane.”

Malaysian investigators “have refocused their investigation into the crew and passengers on board,” he added.

The government has called off the weeklong search for wreckage of MH370 in the South China Sea, where the plane was initially thought to have disappeared, Najib said. New evidence from a satellite indicates that the plane turned west from its route to Beijing and flew on undetected for nearly seven hours into the Indian Ocean, and possibly beyond, he said.

That suggested that somebody with expert knowledge of how to fly and navigate a Boeing 777 was at the controls.

The last contact between a satellite and the plane’s antenna, which continued to “ping” signals even though the transponder and ACARS tracking system were dead, occurred at 08.11 last Saturday morning.

The flight had dropped off civilian air traffic control radar screens at 01.22, investigators have said, less than an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur.

The satellite data offers no precision about where the plane was at the time of its last hourly “ping.” Najib said the search would be redirected to two enormous new areas: a northern corridor stretching from northern Thailand to the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan near the Caspian Sea, and a southern corridor stretching from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean.

The northern route would likely have taken the plane over or near a number of countries with well developed air defense and radar capabilities, such as India and Pakistan, which would have been expected to pick up traces of its passage.

If MH370 had flown that way until its fuel reserves were exhausted, it could have crashed somewhere in central Asia or western China. There have been no reports of any such crash.

The southern route would have been largely over open water in the southern Indian Ocean.

Najib confirmed that a radar blip picked up by a Malaysian Air Force ground station in the early hours of last Saturday morning but unidentified at the time did in fact correspond to MH370 heading west and then northwest at cruising altitude.

Reuters news agency reported on Friday that the military radar data showed the aircraft following a commonly used navigational route, from way station to way station, which would have been possible only if the plane was being steered manually by a knowledgeable pilot or if the auto-pilot had been programmed to follow that route.

Najib said on Saturday that satellite information suggested “with a high degree of certainty” that the plane’s ACARS tracking system, transmitting information to the ground about the health of its systems, “was disabled just before the aircraft reached the East coast of peninsular Malaysia” while it was still on its planned route.

Shortly afterwards, near the border between Malaysian and Vietnamese air traffic control, still on course, the aircraft’s transponder, which identifies a plane to air traffic controllers, was switched off, he added.

It was then that the plane veered sharply westward, heading towards the Straits of Malacca and then the Indian Ocean.

THE PILOT AND CO-PILOT

The plane’s experienced pilot, Capt. Zaharie Ahmad Shah, had flown more than 18,000 miles and was known to friends and colleagues as a public spirited man who loved his job.

A father of three, Capt. Zaharie posted a video on YouTube which he said was “a public service” explaining how to adjust a refrigerator in order to save energy. In the video he is seen sitting in front of a flight simulator which he had built at home.

Last year, before Malaysia’s parliamentary elections, he volunteered to campaign for Sivarasa Rahsia, who won a seat for the opposition People’s Justice Party. “He was a very friendly man, very helpful,” says Mr. Sivarasa.

Zaharie’s family, according to someone who knows them, have given up hope that he will be found alive and have conducted Islamic prayers for the dead.

The co-pilot, Fariq Hamid, who recently qualified to fly a Boeing 777-200, the sort of plane that disappeared last Saturday, had apparently misbehaved on an earlier flight. A South African woman has said that in 2011 he invited her and a female friend to join him and another pilot in the cockpit of a plane flying from Phuket, Thailand, to Kuala Lumpur and that they stayed there throughout the flight.

Malaysia Airlines said in a statement earlier this week that it was “shocked” by the revelation.

Indian arms imports almost triple China, Pakistan: study

Paris (AFP) - India remains the biggest buyer of arms in the world, importing nearly three times as many weapons as its nearest competitors China and Pakistan over the last five years, a Swedish think tank said.

The total volume of arms sales was up 14 percent in 2009-13 compared to the previous five years, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

Indian imports of major weapons rose by 111 percent in the last five years compared to 2004–08. Its share of total global arms imports increased from 7 to 14 percent, SIPRI said.

India replaced China as the world's biggest arms buyer in 2010. With its domestic defence industry struggling to manufacture high-tech arms, India is in the midst of a defence spending binge as it struggles to keep up with better-equipped Chinese forces and a range of military challenges in its volatile neighbourhood.

The main supplier of arms to India in 2009-13 was Russia, accounting for 75 percent of all imports -- reflecting India's need to upgrade and modernise weapons systems dating back to their close relationship during the Cold War.

India has lately sought to diversify its sources, looking particularly to the United States.

Just when you thought the controversy concerning Robin Thicke and that coed he gave a very public rectal exam had died down, this happened, friends, and if sticking your hands in the crack of someone's ass in front of a mirror of all places isn't trashy enough, then this surely is.

After a performance (of probably "Blurred Lines," because no one cares about any of Robin's other songs and CASH COW) in Paris, Robin was caught dirty dancing with a gorgeous, lithe young thing, and his wife, Paula Patton -- naturally -- was nowhere to be found.

And you know, let's be real for a second here: it's not that he's married -- because lots of people, not necessarily Paula and Robin, have made it sort of transparent that these two have an open relationship, and you know what? To each his or her own. It's none of our business the way that Paula and Robin conduct intra- and/or extra-relations, but you know what is our business? You know what is? Cadillac Has Changed The Logo On All Its Cars

Cadillac is in the midst of a resurgence, and the debut of the gorgeous ATS Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show today makes its future look even brighter.

At the reveal, GM's luxury brand made another, less spectacular announcement: It's changing its logo. The new look was first shown in August on the Elmiraj concept, and now we know it will be on all new cars starting mid-2014.

The wreath is gone, and the crest is lower and wider. "Sleek and streamlined," Cadillac says, just like its current lineup.

“This new Crest matches the lower, longer, leaner mantra of our current car designs," Andrew Smith, Cadillac's executive design director, said in a press release. The crown last seen before the 2000 redesign has not reappeared — no need to look cocky.

Female Final Year Benue University Student Dies In Hotel Room

21-year-old final year female student of the Benue State University, BSU, Joan Adaaku, has been reportedly found dead in a hotel room located in the heart of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Sources who preferred anonymity told Vanguard that the Economics undergraduate had checked into Savannah Guest House at about 7 a.m after paying N2,000 for a room.

According to the source, “She actually arrived the hotel alone and after underaking some check-in formalities she entered the room and locked herself up.“She never came out of her room again either to ask for food or any other things.

So, at exactly 6 p.m, a room attendant knocked on her door to find out if she was interest in being attended to by room service.“Her silence aroused suspicion and the room attendant, who repeated his call to the room at 8pm without reply, alerted the manager on duty.“It was at that point that the management alerted the Police who moved in and broke into the room and discovered the lifeless body of the lady in a position that suggested she was making a call before her death.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased had on her a small purse which contained a Bible, rosary and N8,200. A bottle of water and a bottle of soft drink were also discovered in the room.Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent, DSP, Daniel Ezeala confirmed the incident, and said investigation into the matter had commenced.

At RUN,they pay half a million every year for school fees…. a fee that most church members cannot even afford and some of the students who are there,their parents struggle to make sure their kids get the best of the four years they spend their,students in other Universities are rendered redundant because of the ASUU issue blah blah… ..so RUN it is for the majority.

Info reaching me indicates that a female student amongst others is/are to be punished by being sent to rehab because she/they missed going to church on Sunday!

Rehab at RUN is a place where the offender will go for six months without attending classes and the full school fees will STILL be paid, after the offender is done, he/she will repeat the class and pay another fees. …Lobatan! Personally i feel this is a RIP OFF. but i asked a question ” why did these student not attend church”?

The answer i got was simple! ” they all have very genuine reasons,the girl came up with menstrual pain that morning and couldn’t make it. now Stella the girl in question is a final year student who her parents are very glad that the struggle of half a million per term is over. only for them to be told they will have extra year at the university . which means extra 500k which is separate from all the pocket money and other fees which when calculated in totality come up to N1m- N1.5m ”

I feel this is very unfair for a school that preaches CHRISTIANITY. these students where not caught with drugs, porn, or having sex etc,their only crime was that they did not attend church. now the question is, does the punishment fit the crime?

Is Pastor Adeboye aware of all these sanctions being carried out in his premises and is he party to it? Because it is alleged that the lecturers and the CSO of the school ‘CLAIM” these instructions come from him. This is just a few amongst many other stories that happen in that premises that need to be brought to the forefront.According to info reaching me,the idea to send these students to Rehab allegedly came up today and the affected students were informed today to wait till next week Monday to get the final verdict on their cases.Please somebody should get this to the attention of Pastor Adeboye,I am sure he has no idea of what is going on at RUN….This is so unfair!

Inventor Of AK-47 Rifle Mikhail Kalashnikov Dies At 94

Mikhail Kalashnikov, the designer of fabled AK-47 automatic rifle, has died. He was 94. Russia’s ITAR-TASS news agency reported the news on Monday, citing the office of the presidency in the Udmurtia region where he worked. “It is difficult and sad to realize that Mikhail Kalashnikov is no longer with us. We have lost one of the most talented, memorable and committed patriots of Russia, who served his country throughout his life,” said the statement from the press secretary of the Udmurtia administration Viktor Chulkov. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed “deep condolences” over the death of the engineer. Kalashnikov who continued working well into his nineties, had been suffering from heart and intestinal problems, and on November 17 was admitted been in intensive care in Izhevsk – where the plant that produces the eponymous rifles is located. The official cause of death will be revealed following a mandatory autopsy. A public funeral will be organized by the regional administration, in consultation with surviving relatives, though no date has been named so far. Kalashnikov designed a weapon that became synonymous with killing on a sometimes indiscriminate scale but was seen in the Soviet Union as a national hero and symbol of Moscow’s proud military past. Born November 10, 1919, Kalashnikov was most famous for developing the AK-47, AKM, and AK-74 assault rifles. During his career, he designed about 150 models of small weapons. Kalashnikov married Ekaterina Viktorovna Moiseyeva who died in 1977 aged 56. She was an engineer and did much technical drawing work for her husband. They had four children: daughters Nelli, 71, Elena, 65 and Natalya, who died at 30, and a son Victor, 71. Victor also became a prominent small arms designer. Bus Conductor Beaten To Death By A Soldier Over Transport Fare

An unidentified soldier, yesterday morning allegedly beat a bus conductor (names unknown) to death at Obalende in Lagos, for insisting that the soldier who boarded his vehicle must pay his fare.

According to reports, the unidentified danfo driver with vehicle number LSD 451 XG was pounced on by the soldier who was in a mufti following a heated argument over transport fare.

Eyewitnesses say the man had accompanied his wife to the park at Obalende to get a bus to her destination.

Within a moment, the late conductor and the woman, exchanged hot words over transport fare.

That made the unformed man to react. He lost his temper and kept beating the guy, until he died,” one account said.

He was said to have dragged the deceased, raining blows on his head, stomach and chest.
On noticing he had given up the ghost, the soldier, it was learnt, attempted to run but commuters and passersby who witnessed the beating arrested him and told him to carry the corpse to the hospital.

Sensing that the soldier was about to be mobbed, a policeman at the scene phoned his colleagues at the Kam Selem Police Divisional Headquarters, Moloney Street and four police patrol vehicles with policemen arrived the scene.
A detachment of armed soldiers from nearby Dodan Barracks also arrived the scene to prevent the culprit from being killed by the mob.

The soldiers took away their colleague and the corpse to their barracks after dispersing hundreds of people asking for the soldier’s blood.

According to Atlanta Daily World, a source revealed to them that the “Starships” rapper was spotted with a growing “baby bump” on January 2, 2014, while she was having dinner with a friend.

“She twice made toasts by drinking water instead of wine,” an eyewitness said, adding that it is “highly unusual” for Minaj “to toast with anything but a full glass of wine.”The website reports that there was something between Minaj and Wayne but they were never serious. “

“Not only is he my boss, but he’s also like my brother,” she said in April. These baby rumours have neither be confirmed or denied by either party. If the rumors turn out to be true, the baby will be Wayne’s fifth child (he has four children with four different women) and Minaj’s first.

After the bizzarre rumours surfaced that Nicki Minaj might be pregnant with Lil Wayne’s baby, it became a hot topic of discussion on social networking sites as fans took to twitter to comment about Minaj’s pregnancy rumours.

It’s unlikely that these crazy baby bump rumors are true, but even if they are, instead of congratulating the rappers, they dissed the ”Young Money” rappers and expressed worries over their parenting skills.

They are whispered to be planning a twosome……..Yes, a joint wedding which might hold in Dubai in the second quarter of 2014.
