Lily's {Sketch} Pad

Moved

2012-02-17T11:25:00.000-08:00

Hello there! I know I haven't updated this blog in forever. I got busy, lost some of my mojo and stopped posting. In the meantime, I've been working on drawing/painting more, and have found some new sources of inspiration.

I started a new blog, Paper Harbor, that is better suited to the new direction my creative life has taken. I'd love it if you'd come check it out!

Picture Perfect

I did this sketch of a Holga camera for a handmade card during the holiday:

And here's some inspiring pictures I found of cameras used as decoration:

I missed posting my last two Sidewalk Saturdays, so here's what I found/saw:

I did this knotted rope sketch for something I'm working on, and it inspired me to find these:

Sidewalk Saturday 11/6

2010-11-06T09:59:00.000-07:00

Even though I stopped blogging for awhile, I kept taking pictures of cool sidewalk art I ran across.

Here's a couple worth sharing:

Have a great weekend!

Bermuda Triangle

2010-11-05T20:41:00.000-07:00

I haven't blogged in a very long time. I started working more and lost my inspiration/motivation/creativity. I like to think my mojo got lost in the Bermuda Triangle of inspiration, because it's a more romantic idea.

Also, everyone loves triangles...

Sidewalk Saturday 5/8

2010-05-08T08:44:00.000-07:00

I have to dash off to work, but here's some pictures of cool sidewalk graffiti that I've found recently:

{I can't remember if I've posted this one before or not, I found it along time ago, and just found a prettier version of it last week}

I was in a hurry when I took the last two. Normally I'm careful not to get my shadow in the picture, but I think in this case the shadows make the pictures more interesting.

I really like the panda faces this week, but I'm pretty much a sucker for anything animal related. What do you think?

Happy Cinco de Mayo

This is the only interior that featured the colors of the Mexican flag that I found and also liked (red, green, and white is hard to pull off in one room).

I hope you're off enjoying a frosty margarita right now, or maybe some chips and salsa!

I've Been Busy

and I also like this lamp :)

I hope to start posting regularly again sometime soon!

Not for the Faint of Heart

2010-04-26T21:40:00.000-07:00

This week is the start of my new busier schedule, and near the end of the day I started to think about how fainting couches (or chaises if you prefer) are actually a pretty good idea.

That way when I get home from a long hard day, immediately need to pass out and can't make it to the sofa (those pesky arms get in the way), or the bed, I'll have a fallback plan (lol sometimes I crack myself up).

Anyway, here are some good looking rooms I'd like to lie down in:

The turquoise one is obviously my favorite. What do you think?

Sidewalk Saturday 4/24

2010-04-24T20:45:00.000-07:00

I have a couple of sidewalk stencils and graffiti to show you today. I actually found two new ones while I was out and about running errands this morning.

I found another heart! And, how amazing is the jackhammer stencil? I love stencils that incorporate the sidewalk into the design.

I've been seeing more sidewalk graffiti that has been drawn onto the sidewalk, I like it, but not as much as the stencils.

Here's a cool door I saw on the exterior of an apartment building. It looks like the finished version of the sidewalk chicken above. I like the collaged effect of the graffiti and the nice color work.

I hope you're having a great weekend as well!

How Come You're Floating Like a Helium Balloon

Things I'm Thankful for Thursday 4/22

2010-04-22T22:24:00.000-07:00

Here's my roundup of a couple of things I'm thankful for right now:

1. The rain stopped today, and the weekend looks sunny as well!

{here}

2. Earth Day, it's a great reminder to be better to the planet.

{here}

3. Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. I just started watching the show, I hope he can make a real impact on the way a lot of people look at food.

{here}

4. I recently got a Polaroid camera off ebay and some film from the Impossible Project, and am looking forward to playing around with it.

{here}

I hope your Earth Day was lovely.

Happy Earth Day!

2010-04-22T14:01:00.000-07:00

I did a little illustration in celebration of Earth Day, I hope you like it!

You Spin Me Round

2010-04-21T21:15:00.000-07:00

I was checking out Urban Outfitters online today and saw some spin art inspired goods for the home, which I think is an interesting idea.

After a quick search I also found a couple of interiors featuring spin art.

{here}

I like the art featured in the homes, and the Urban rug looks pretty cool (especially on the floor in the photograph), but the pillow doesn't really work for me.

What do you think? Is spin art going to be a new trend, or is it a fleeting fad?

Turquoise Tuesday

2010-04-20T21:07:00.000-07:00

After spending several hours today looking through white/beige/cream paint chips, I need a little color in my life!

{here}

I feel better already.

Also, in case you haven't heard, Pantone has named turquoise the color of 2010, which is awesome because it just so happens to be my favorite color!

{Pantone}

If you need a little more turquoise in your life you should check out House of Turquoise, which is an awesome blog for turquoise/design lovers.

Everybody's Working for the Weekend

2010-04-19T20:48:00.000-07:00

I've been a little bit MIA lately because more and more work opportunities have been coming my way, which I'm very grateful for! But it's also complicated (I have four part-time jobs which is hard to schedule), so hopefully I'll be able to get into a better grove with my schedule soon, and go back to posting at least once a day.

With all this work on my mind, here are some work spaces I find inspiring:

I need the Lily flower diagram in the last image! I would also really like an orange desk please.

How do you feel about the office with the large portrait? The face is kind of intimidating, so I think I would be inspired to work my hardest with that hanging in the room!

Things I'm Thankful for Thursday 4/15

2010-04-15T21:51:00.000-07:00

Here are some things I'm thankful for right now:

1. Having a fun girlie beauty night this week.

2. Plans to go out dancing this weekend.

3. I bought the Hipstamatic app for the iPhone and have been playing around with it.

4. This week has flown by quickly.

And...

5. Natalie Dee comics are always funny, but this one is especially funny to me considering I said that I thought squirrels are the new owl.

Happy almost Friday!

She's Always Buzzing Just Like...

2010-04-12T20:19:00.000-07:00

I've run across several pictures of neon lights/signs used in interiors lately, and I really like the way it looks.

I've rustled up a couple more pictures for you:

It would be fun to write something in your own handwriting and have a light made, like the sweet dreams sign.

What words would you emblazon in neon to hang in your home? Or are you against the neon altogether?
