I have written about google glasses before but the release date is getting closer and the potential issues and bonuses are being discussed. Will they be successful? Who knows but I think they will be but not straight away and only with the tech heads but eventually with many adaptions they will most likely be just as prevalent as tablets which many people said wouldn’t catch on either. Here is one of the latest google videos showing us how they work. Can you see the potential for the training room? What do you think?

The Monday post was about the correct use of PowerPoint but maybe you are looking for an alternative. This might be worth trying out. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet myself but from all reports it is meant to be easy to use and can create some useful animated videos. If you have time, try it out, and let us all know what it is like.

I like PowerPoint. There, I said it. I don’t really care what a whole host of non-PowerPoint experts say. If it is used effectively then it is a great tool that can be used to save time, engage and make learning easier for participants. The slideshare below is an excellent guide to how to use PowerPoint effectively. Be honest with yourself. Do you use PowerPoint or abuse it and your participants.

This is a great speech and a great view of what education is about. Relax at some point today. Watch the video and have a good think about it.

I think it is a good idea to go back and check your educational theory to make sure you are applying yourself appropriately as a teacher or trainer. Here is a great summary of Adult Learning theory and principles.

What do you think of this video? The student is complaining that the teacher is slack and he has become a bit of a hit on the internet with the video shot by a friend in the class. The teacher doesn’t appear to be too interested.

I suspect we are going to see more of this in future but it is easy to stop. Just be a good teacher.

I posted this video in my other blog this week for a different purpose but I realised while watching it that the guy on the video is demonstrating something that all good trainers and teachers respect. Tradition, craft, dedication, pride and an intense satisfaction when a job is well done. Reflect today on your craft. I have been doing a lot of facilitating lately and it has reminded me that even though I like instructional design and elearning etc standing in front of a group and teaching is still a thrill and is still what I really enjoy about the job.

16 million for research into learning and the conditions that facilitate it. I’m not knocking research. It has it’s place but how much are we spending on how to support teachers and develop their abilities?

UQ Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice-President (Research) Professor Max Lu said he believed the centre would lead to “breakthrough science that would underpin a new paradigm for learning and teaching at all levels, from early childhood to adult education”. 

Really, that would be amazing or will we end up just realising that good teachers are good teachers and bad teachers shouldn’t be allowed to teach. Not that difficult really. And, if we do find a new way to teach how will we support and train teachers to use this new technique. Hopefully not the same way we assist them with technology.
