Spaced Out

So I met up with an old friend last week. I was away on a working vacation. It was Friday night and we agreed to go out and hit the clubs. So after a few drinks my friend decides its a good idea to drag some ol' crap out from behind the refrigerator and examine it. Now, normally I might be game—for entertainment purposes only, mind you. Only I'm on a working vacation. And it's Friday night, as I said, and I'm not about to spend my free time like this. So I get up and head out to another club to listen to some live music. I'm walking slowly, mind you. I'm not skipping or jogging out of there. And we both have our cell phones with us so there should not be a problem locating one another later. And plus, I'm thinking, this guy has got to put the Big Boy Pants on and if he's not in the mood for that, then I should just go on by myself for the night.

So a couple hours later I've had enough fun and I head back to my hotel. Just as I get to my room I hear the twitter of an incoming text message. When I opened it up this is what I saw:

OK, first off, it's like 2:00 in the morning. And second, I've been drinking Bloody Marys for fuck knows how many hours. And third, I have this piss awful little bitty teeny cellphone screen.

And so I turn on all the lights which is fuck painful and I'm sitting there opening and closing my eyes over and over again trying to get focus and figure out WTF this is. Finally I gave up and hit Reply: 'I am not talking to you until you learn to use the 'Space' button.'

I still haven't heard from him.
