All-Ireland hurling final day, the greatest day of the year.

Watch Ireland vs. Brazil Fifa u17 Live streaming News
Listening to RTE over the last few days, you’d think the big event of the weekend was on in Stradbally, where they were still struggling to sell 30,000 tickets to the Electric Picnic last Friday night. Some 82,000 will be in Croke Park today and millions watching or listening to Micheál worldwide.
It is now a cliche almost beyond repetition that these are the men who teach your kids and sell you milk and farm the land and drive buses and pull pints and basically do everything that everyone else in Ireland does. They even pretend to stay off the drink.
Michael Cusack once wrote that a brilliant hurling match was like a city on fire, where the crackling of burning timber and the hissing of flames swelled into a roar of conflagration.

Well, there’ll be sparks flying in Croke Park today. The greatest day of the year.

England v Pakistan at Cardiff, 2nd T20I
To the long time cricket fan, there is usually a feeling of unease about the one day games that follow a Test series. It is as if, having scoffed your way through four or five huge main courses, you are suddenly forced to eat half a dozen amuse bouches before being allowed to go home. 'One more wafer thin ODI, M. Cricketfan?'
At the start of the summer, the chance to see the current world champions in the shortest form of the game play the side they deposed was an enticing one, especially as they would be games played under the very conditions that Pakistan won their title. Now, with each side shorn of their star performer in that form, the games are inevitably diminished.
In fact, the PCB had their thunder comprehensively stolen this evening when the ICC announced that it was suspending all three players under Article 2 of the Anti-Corruption Code. The Metropolitan Police then weighed in and announced that all three players would be interviewed by them early tomorrow morning.

India vs Germany : BDO World Cup Women 2010 : Rosario, Argentina
Netherlands, Australia & Germany continue winning ways
Day 4 of the BDO FIH Hockey World Cup in Rosario, Argentina saw an incredible 22 goals scored as Australia, The Netherlands and Germany continued their winning ways in the tournament.
Today's results have left The Netherlands and Australia tied at the top of the table with six points each, but the Dutch have a far superior goal difference thanks to scoring 14 goals in their first two games.
More information about the tournament can be found at

Nelson guides Hockey roos to victory over India
A double strike from Ashleigh NELSON helped Australia to a 6-3 victory over India on Day 4 of the BDO FIH Hockey World Cup in Rosario, Argentina. The result gave the Hockey roos their second successive win of the tournament, ensuring that their goal of reaching the Semi Finals remains firmly on track.
Defeat for India leaves them without a point after two matches, greatly reducing their chances of reaching the medal classification matches.

Match 10 - India v Australia 3-6
> Today’s match saw nine goals being scored. The last time this happened was in 2002 when England beat Germany 7-2.
> Australia are the first team to get two wins in Pool A after beating Japan 2-1 and India 6-3.
> India have now conceded 13 goals in two matches (7 vs Netherland and 6 vs Australia).
> Madonna Blyth (AUS) and Rani Rampal (IND) join RSA’s Pietie Coetzee as players to have scored in their first two matches at Rosario 2010.
> Casey Eastham scored her first World Cup goal. She has now scored in all three big tournaments: Olympics Champions Trophy and World Cup.
> Nicole Arrold (AUS) scored her second career World Cup goal and her first in eight years since scoring against Ireland at the 2002 World Cup.
> Ashley Nelson scored twice today, to become the first Hockeyroo since Wendy Beattie in 2006 (vs ARG) to score multiple goals in a World Cup match.
> Surinder Kaur (IND) also netted twice today, to become the first Indian player since Surinder Kaur in 2006 to score two goals in a World Cup match.

Forgesson hat-trick not enough to deny rampant Netherlands
A hat-trick from Krystal FORGESSON in her 100th game could not stop a rampant The Netherlands side from scoring seven times for the second successive game to run out comfortable winners against New Zealand in the second game of the day here in Rosario. Oranje fully deserved their victory, producing a master class of attacking hockey that included a period of four goals being scored in 14 breathless minutes.
The high quality performance of the Netherlands would certainly make them most people's favourites to finish top of Pool A, but there is still a long way to go. With an incredible 19 goals in just two games, the action on Day 4 is looking likely to be the highest scoring day of the tournament.

Match 11 - Netherlands v New Zealand 7-3
Netherland beat New Zealand 7-3 to go top of the table in Pool A.
This 10-goal match is the joined second on the list of World Cup matches with most goals. Other World Cup matches with at least 10 goals are Germany-Nigeria (10-1) in 1978 and Netherlands – Soviet Union (7-3) in 1981.
The Dutch have now scored 14 goals in 2 matches: 7 goals per match on average. Their highest World Cup average of 4 goals per match dates back to 1981.
This match saw both teams score within 3 minutes of the start of the game. The last time this happened in a World Cup match was in 2002 in the RSA - ENG match (2-2) when Helen Grant (ENG, 2’) and Johke Koornhof (RSA, 3’) scored early goals.
Four of the six Dutch goalscorers today also scored the match against India (Paumen, Hoog, Lammers and Agliotti).
Janneke Schopman (NED) has now scored in the last 3 World Cups (2002, 2006 and 2010).
Krystal Forgesson (NZL) scored a hat-trick while picking up 100 caps for New Zealand.

Japan beaten by Keller strike
Germany legend Natascha KELLER came to the rescue of her team yet again, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Japan. The veteran goal-scorer was at her brilliant best throughout the match, thoroughly deserving her goal after a sensational individual performance. The result puts Germany level on points with The Netherlands and Australia at the top of Pool A, but sit in third place on goal difference.
The first goal of the match arrived early in the second half courtesy of a low penalty corner flick from Ai MURAKAMI which sailed into the bottom right corner of Kristina REYNOLDS goal. the goal opened up the game, with Germany determined to score an equaliser whilst Japan looked to capitalise on the counter-attack. Eventually though, Germany found an equaliser through a field goal from Maike Stoekel, which gave Germany the momentum to fight for the win. KELLER's winning goal arrived with just nine minutes of the match remaining, smashing a beautiful shot into the corner of the goal from the top of the circle. The final minutes were frantic, but Germany secured their second win of the tournament to stay well in the race for a semi final berth.

Match 12 - Germany v Japan 2-1
> Japan suffered their fourth straight defeat against Germany in World Cup competition.
Maike Stöckel (GER) added to her two goals scored at the 2006 World Cup.
Natascha Keller (GER) scored the winning goal like she did in the match against Japan at the 2008 Champions Trophy which Germany also won 2-1.
Germany joins the Netherlands and Australia at the top in Pool A on six points, leaving Japan, New Zealand and India pointless.

News For Mylan Classic
Nationwide plays inaugural Mylan Classic
With just nine events remaining of the original 29 event schedule in 2010, the Nationwide Tour heads to Pennsylvania for this week’s Mylan Classic.
The event is being played at the Arthur Hills designed Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg just south of Pittsburg in what will be its inaugural staging.
The Australasian contingent is strong in terms of numbers but it has been a disappointing season to date for those who are seeking higher honours in the game. In 2010 only Ewan Porter has won amongst the Australasians but his season has spiralled downwards since his impressive victory in Valdosta in April. Porter has now slipped outside the top 30 and ranks only second amongst the Australasians behind Alistair Presnell who is currently ranked 30th.
That could all change with a good week this week however. Presnell, Porter, Adam Bland, Steven Bowditch, Andrew Buckle, Nick Flanagan, Scott Gardiner, Mark Hensby, Bradley Iles, Bronson la Cassie, Won Joon Lee, Jarrod Lyle, David McKenzie and Phil Tataurangi all get their chance at the first prize of US$108,000.

Watch New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs Live Streaming and Some Attractive NewsThe Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets meet as they wind down disappointing seasons.
The Chicago Cubs are having one of their worst seasons as a team with a high payroll had become accustomed to recent playoff disappointment but this year their season didn't even make it that far. While Chicago is 6-4 in their last 10 games, they are 21 and a half games back in the National League East and 30-39 at home this year. The Cubs have been outscored by 85 earned runs and as a team they are hitting .262 as Starlin Castro leads in batting average at .317, Alfonso Soriano leading in home runs with 21 and RBI's with 69, and Marlon Byrd leads in runs scored with 72. As a team the Cubs pitching staff has an ERA of 4.44 with the starters at 4.09 and the bullpen at 5.13. For game one against the Mets the Cubs start Randy Wells who ended a five decision losing streak last time out. For the season Wells has allowed 175 hits and 80 earned runs while striking out 124 in 160 innings of work.
Chicago is 6-1 in their last seven against a team with a losing record, 11-23 in their last 34 overall, 1-6 in Wells' last seven starts, and 3-10 in their last 13 home games. New York is 6-1 in their last seven game one of a series, 2-5 in their last seven against a right handed starter, 4-0 in Dickey's last four starts, and 1-4 in their last five road games. New York has won four of the last five times these two have met but they have lost four of their last five in Chicago.
Dickey has pitched well this season and Wells has been decent but he has no luck at all, the product of playing on a very bad team. The Mets should have some confidence after beating the Braves and Tim Hudson in Atlanta and at this price, they are the obvious choice.

Japan-South Korea ties / Baseball mirrors bilateral ties
The Yomiuri Shimbun
SK Wyverns starting pitcher Ken Kadokura thanks a teammate for his strong performance in Daejeon, South Korea, on Aug. 20.
This is the second installment in a series on Japan-South Korean relations marking the centennial of the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty of 1910.
Baseball has often served as a mirror of Japan-South Korea relations since first coming to the Korean Peninsula in 1905, and the reflection was most encouraging at an Aug. 13 match between the Doosan Bears and SK Wyverns at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.
Professional South Korean baseball was founded in the 1980s. Paik In Chon, a catcher and outfielder for the Toei Flyers and other teams, went to South Korea to guide the new league, as did former Yomiuri Giants pitcher Hisao Niura, an ethnic Korean who was raised in Japan.
Paik, who respected and emulated Yomiuri Giants legend Shigeo Nagashima, gave up his goal of achieving 2,000 hits in Japanese baseball, but became the first player to earn batting crowns in both Japan and South Korea.
Today, South Korean coaches are also coming to Japan. SK Wyverns manager Kim Sung Geun, 67, was a batting coach for the Chiba Lotte Marines for two years beginning in 2005.
Kim's dream is "to create an Asian League whose champion team would play against the U.S. World Series champions in a real World Series."
SK bullpen coach Yuji Serizawa, 42, said he feels immeasurable power in South Korean players, almost all of whom tackle training programs that seem beyond their limits.
"They plan to surpass Japan and aim for the summit of the world," said Serizawa, a former Chunichi Dragons player and coach.

New York Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics
MLB Pick: Over 8 Runs -110 odds
At 1:05 pm, our complimentary selection is on the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics ‘over’ the total. What should be a great match-up of two quality lefthanders is skewed a bit by the fact that the Yanks have been so incredibly dominant at home against this Oakland club. Not a bad time to be playing a team that you’re 10-1 against at your home ball park in the last 11 meetings there.
as was the case in his last start as the big southpaw threw in a clunker in Chicago against the White Sox last Saturday but New York still came out victorious. It hasn’t hurt Sabathia’s chances that his team is scoring runs in bunches when he goes out there (28 runs in his last three starts). Take the ‘over.’ As always, good luck…

Watch Edgar beats Penn at UFC 118

noreply@blogger.com (salma) — Mon, 30 Aug 2010 10:19:00 -0700

Edgar defends his lightweight title against Penn after a unanimous decision from the judges
Boston — The Associated Press Published on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 10:13AM EDT Last updated on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 10:15PM EDT
Defending his UFC lightweight title against the man he defeated for the crown, Frankie Edgar won a five-round unanimous decision over B.J. Penn on Saturday at the TD Garden.
Edgar won the title from Penn via decision in April in a much closer fight than Saturday's bout, which all three judges scored 50-45.
“B.J. really brought out the best in me,” Edgar said. “It was close the first time and I wanted to make a point.”
The 28-year-old Edgar, of Toms River, N.J., is now 13-1. Penn, a 31-year-old native of Hilo, Hawaii, fell to 15-7-1.
“Frankie fought a great fight,” Penn said.“He beat me twice, so what can you say. He got off early, so much respect.”
Edgar controlled the bout from the beginning, scoring a takedown in the first 20 seconds. After Penn escaped and got to his feet, Edgar took him down again with 1:50 left in the round.
Edgar scored another takedown in the second.
After both fighters spent most of the third round on their feet trading punches, Penn began the fourth round with a takedown, but Edgar got up with 3:45 left in the round. In the final three minutes of the round, Edgar swept Penn's left leg, sending him to the mat, where he landed a hard right hand to Penn's head in the final minute.
In the fifth, Penn took Edgar to the mat in the first 30 seconds, but a minute later, Edgar reversed positions.
Both fighters finished the bout on their feet, with Edgar warding off a takedown attempt in the final 15 seconds.
“Frankie looked like a complete mixed martial artist,” said UFC president Dana White. “He looked unbelievable.”
In a battle between a championship boxer and a champion mixed martial artist, five-time UFC titleholder Randy Couture defeated 11-time boxing champion James Toney by submission in the first round of a scheduled three-round heavyweight bout in the co-main event.
With Couture holding Toney in a head triangle, Toney tapped out at 3:19 of the first round.
“I've been working on that head triangle a lot,” said Couture.
Couture improved to 19-10, dealing Toney a loss in his first MMA bout. Toney began training for MMA nine months ago.
Within the first 30 seconds of the bout, Couture brought Toney to the mat with a single-leg takedown. He never let Toney off the mat, landing punches to the head, then getting Toney into the head triangle, which he held until Toney signalled to referee Yamasaki that he had enough.
The 47-year-old Couture is a three-time UFC heavyweight champion and a two-time light heavyweight champion.
Toney has held world championships in boxing at middleweight, super middleweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight. The 42-year-old's boxing record is 72-6-3, with two no contests.
“I got caught, what can I say,” Toney said.
Toney weighed 237 pounds while Couture weighed 220.
“Mixed martial artist went in against a boxer and anything can happen in a fight,” said White. “(Toney's) a tough guy, but he came in there with one discipline and that was not enough, even if he trained eight or nine months.”
In other bouts on the main card, lightweight Gray Maynard won a three-round unanimous decision against Kenny Florian.
Maynard, who has beaten Edgar, is now 11-0, while Florian, a local favourite from Brookline, Mass., dropped to 15-5.
