Abbots Ripton, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire was the place where ''Superstition" - the Secret Garden Party 2013 edition took place. The irrational, the inexplicable and the supernatural were the key words of this huge outdoor party, where among surrealist statues, a few well dressed ladies caught Violet Darkling's eye.

When she realised her pooch was cute on the outside but malicious on the inside, it was like a dream come true!

Meet Mungle, the spoilt only child of Violet.

He is a mischievous little beasty who wants to get the most out of life and embrace each season with a new look. This summer, Mungle dared to be bold and...accidentally almost bald!

Although he didn't want to get rid entirely of his wonderful lion mane, he happily accepted a new hair cut that makes him feel free and ready to feel the much coveted sun closer to his skin.

It is easy to imagine why the Pomeranian was so popular among Royalties, as Queen Victoria owned a particularly small Pomeranian and made his race desired around the world.

China's most cosmopolitan city, Shanghai hosts one of Violet Darkling's favorite stores- One of A Kind Concept Boutique.
The store was opened last year and it is already a winner due to its quirky name and artistically decorated interior. It has the typical look of Dover Street Market: reclaimed wooden shelves, whitewashed brick walles adorned with McQueen skull prints and faded Persian carpets.

Violet Darkling enjoyed resting her feet and eyes in such a stylish and comfortable sanctuary. And the simple fact of spending some time contemplating her creations in a magical atmosphere, charged her batteries with inspiration; and a sort of quirky and productive energy.

Jacky Tsai's spectacle- The Floral Skull

It is certain that skulls are not a new phenomena in the world of fashion or art, so anyone who possesses even a little knowledge about fashion or culture could confirm this fact.

Over the years, skulls have been interpreted and re-interpreted in ways which are more or less creative as they symbolise the taboo subject- Death. I don’t know if you ever sat down and thought for a minute or two at the analogy between fashion and death, but there is no doubt this is a subject of a great and in depth debate. Fashion itself, with its ‘birth’ and ‘death’ cycle of trends and nostalgia is associated with death and you cannot deny this, Darklings. Still, this article won't treat this complex issue, as Violet Darkling plans to inform you about a different matter...

If you think of a simple skull, you know it is not a very glamorous or good-looking object, but it’s the artist, with his innovative vision, who makes it so spectacular and mesmerising to the public eye.

In our case Jacky Tsai, one of Violet's favourite artists, accepted the challenge of showing the world that skulls are not yet old fashioned.

He adorned the human skull with flowers, played with shapes and colours; and created a totally different concept of skull- the FLORAL SKULL- a contrast between delicate and dark elements.

In other words, his vision is to design a unique marriage between traditional Eastern craftsmanship with contemporary Western pop art in order to show his fascination of bringing together cultural extremes through art.

His iconic Floral Skull made for Alexander McQueen during the time he worked in pattern design for the brand is real proof of his widely recognised talent and vision.

But the story doesn't stop here. Now the artist has developed an amazing 5 foot tall skull sculpture elaborately covered in leather flowers. This captivating project took 15 needle smiths, 300 days and nights and 1,000 leather pieces stitched together with one million stitches to finish.
This is beyond amazing!

Jacky Tsai's artistic spectacle can be seen in prints, drawings, sculptures and he is currently working on launching his own fashion line. Great minds never rest!

Violet Darkling reserved a wall into her magical crib to hang this great masterpiece, as a tribute to its creator, Jacky Tsai.

The Fossa roared on Li Bingbing's finger next to a revolver in a fashion story inspired by the famous Lara Croft's character from Tomb Rider (2001). Fashion and the movie industry were always closely connected and this pictorial is a true ode to this strong bond.

A Lady's Passion for Detail

Today marks the birth of Maria Sibylla Merian (2 April 1647 – 13 January 1717), a Swiss natural and scientific illustrator with a huge passion for plants and insects that drove her to study and paint them in great detail.
She worked as a botanic artist and spent most of her life studying and composing amazing paintings from her observation of nature. She published three collections of engravings of plants in 1675, 1677, and 1680 and was the first person to clearly record the life cycle of moths and butterflies.

Why does Violet Darkling admire this ambitious lady?
Well, firstly, because she was also obsessive about detail and she gave life to her paintings just as Violet Darkling gives to her jewellery.

Secondly, because she made a self-funded expedition to Suriname, South America where she recorded a bunch of previously unknown flora and fauna. She described the life cycles of 186 insect species and she invented a washable fabric cloth as well as publishing several books.

Moreover, she did all of this in a period when oil-paints were not considered lady like, the western world believed moths and butterflies came from mud, and ladies were advised not to travel to tropical climates due to possible danger to their health.

So many reasons why this brave woman is such an inspiration to Violet Darkling.

With Easter knocking at your door, you are probabily thinking of ways to spoil your taste buds with different delicacies or relaxing hours you are going to spend with your family and beloved ones. Well, this is the cliche image that the restless Violet Darkling will not have in her mind when hearing the word Easter. Instead, her mind is toying with different Easter symbols and interpreting them as you probably know, in a quirky and witty way until she gets what she calls the perfect outcome.

She imagined a Tarsier happy because he stole the Easter Bunny and he keeps it for himself, so he is the Happy Eater and now the rabbit will miss Easter!

Animal of the month- Tarsier!

In a world full of news about business, economy and politics or about the changing times that we live in and the Internet revolution, I am sure that maybe without recognising, your exhausted minds need a different type of information. Well, if you feel this is you, then you should read our short description of a unique and quirky nocturnal creature, which seems to be consciously created to bring a smile on your face. Well, the Filipino Tarsier is the main character of our narrative and it was named after his long impressive anklebone.

Here there are some facts about it:

Tarsier has powerful legs and long fingers that he uses to jump and climb.

It is one of nature’s smallest, cutest primates and just in case you didn’t notice the

Tarsier has very large eyes – they are the largest in proportion to its body of any animal.

If you wonder why it’s staring straight all the time, then you need to know that he is not trying to hypnotise anyone. It is just that his eyes are so big that they cannot rotate in their eye sockets, so the tarsier must stare and swivel his neck up to 180 degrees to look at something. How bizarre!

Within one day of being born it can climb a tree!

Violet Darkling was completely hypnotized by this little nocturnal creature, so in the late hours of the night she studied its features and amazing skull with her magical magnifier and she decided to show the world how astonishing the Tarsier is. And, as you probably already know, the rest is history as the designer Louisa Richwhite has designed an array of jewellery pieces such as rings, necklaces, bracelet, and cufflinks for both men and women all inspired by the skull of the little Philippine Tarsier.

Situated in St Petersburg, Russia, Laboratory is a weird and wonderful concept store and a source of unconventional and contemporary jewellery. It is the perfect illustration of those old mystic laboratories you read about in books with the subject of strange secret experiments from the 1800s or 1900s.

Organic Chemistry research laboratory 1928 (UA CHEM 4.1.7a)

However, instead of chemical substances, this laboratory uses jewellery displayed in glass funnels and hung on faux bones to create not substances, but a novel and memorable shopping experience. The owner and inventor of this magical place is the lovely Kataya Bakucha who has decorated the store with authentic fish skeletons in vitrines and old phone boxes.

We are thrilled to be part of this authentic boutique and to see Violet Darkling stocked in such innovative ways. Fashion Week Winners

Well Darklings, as you already know, the vibrant season of Fashion Week has come to an end. So, after constantly watching what designers created for the next season, Violet Darkling presents her winners - four carefully selected outfits that caught her critical eye.

First dress in the spotlight is from the Valentino show, which took place in Paris and revealed fairytales through dresses. The collection is inspired by the Flemish paintings and is the ideal image of a woman in a private moment - the elegance and fluidity which falls and caresses the skin, the sheer fabric perfectly covers the legs leaving room for mystery. The hair braiding that depicts a princess who lives in a castle hidden deep in the woods who can only be seen by a few privileged people in a magical and unreal world.

The second dress selected tells the story of a very sophisticated, fragile and strong woman. There is a sculptural quality to Alberta Feretti’s creations. This violet velvet dress is a mixture of timeless elegance and daring modernity pointed out by the pockets that provide a relaxed aura to the lucky bearer of this amazing dress. Well, it is clear to see that we are dealing with a show from Milan Fashion Week.

Back to London, at Giles show, the atmosphere was more relaxed, electric and theatrical rather than cut from a fairytale and placed on the bright scene. Here, the word ‘daring’ is used in its full sense, or in other words, we have in front of our eyes the courageous combination of a silky, long, fluid dress teamed with a chunky wool knit beanie, pale pink in contrast to the skin colour. This is simply a beautiful combination and contradiction. While others described the collection as being a cross between high art and pop culture, Violet Darkling knows one thing - that she would definitely wear this dramatic outfit in her nocturnal adventures in the deep woods in search of new adventures.

Giles Fall 2013

Our fashion weeks’ journey finishes with a Moschino outfit which comes straight from the historic and sunny city of Milan. The well-known sarcasm of Franco Moschino himself may not be visible here, but Violet Darkling certainly fell in love with these shoes combined with black socks. What a successful, lovely, bold combination we have here! Another detail that caught our eyes is the white collar in waves decorated with those two round buttons and the matching wristbands. If you haven’t already seen the collection, you should definitely take a look as it is a true ode to the United Kingdom! Notice the models walking down the ramp, they look like twins. What a smart way to show the variation in the garments that completes the nonconformity of this great, super show.
