This is the house on 100 North CarolWood Drive in the posh Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles Michael Jackson was renting for a staggering $100,000 per month where medics wanted to pronounce him dead on the scene -- but Michael Jackson's personal doctor Dr. Conrad Robert Murray, who had been living with Jackson in his rented mansion. refused to let them "call it" -- this according to TMZ

According to property records, the lavish and exuberantly decorated pile on N. Carolwood Drive is owned by Roxanne Guez who is (or was, we don't know) married to Hubert Guez, a somewhat controversial bizness man who made his millions manufacturing apparel in Mexico for all sorts of recognizable mass market brands. Mister Guez now serves as the CEO of a coterie of clothing brands including Ed Hardy and Christian Audiger.

The fit for a Saudi royal property was listed for sale with a blistering asking price of $38,000,000. I wonder how much it's going to go for now?

Everyday, we are made aware of the social and economic problems that are plaguing the Black community: high crime rates, unemployment and high school drop out rates, to name a few. And every election year, Black politicians make promises to “fix this” or “fix that”, but at the end of the day, nothing changes. But what if we decided to take matters into our hands to consciously and actively decided to make changes. Well, that is exactly what one family has decided to do.

Chicago couple John and Maggie Anderson has set out on a journey to buy everything they need for one year from Black-owned companies. Why? According to them, Black businesses create the most Black jobs, they respect and understand Black consumers and investors, and the swelling pool of Black professionals drives growth of the Black middle class. In other words, no one but us, can save us. The Anderson’s are the founders of the Empowerment Experiment, an organization designed to demonstrate the impact of what circulating Black dollars in our community can do.

To give you a little perspective, in 2008, Black purchasing power reached $913 billion, and by 2012, it is expected to reach $1.1 trillion. But unfortunately, we aren't seeing any of it because we aren't spending money with Black-owned business, who in turn employ other Blacks and enables us to take care of our families.

Thinking about all of the goods, products, and services that we buy each year, do you think you could purposely set out to buy from Black business owners for a whole year? If those products and services were not within your immediate shopping area, would you be willing to go out of your way to find a Black-owned business to meet your needs? Do you think it matters where you get your products and services?

President Obama Doesn’t Care about HBCUs......Oh Yes He Does!

When I heard the news about President Obama proposing to cut funding for HBCUs last week, I almost had to grab my inhaler and clutch my pearls. WHAAATTT!!! First, my old HBCU, Kentucky State University crowned a white chick as Homecoming Queen, and now the first Black president is cutting off funding for Black colleges and universities!!? WTH? I’m not sure I’m feeling this whole “change” thing. I’m soooo confused.

But then, I decided to dig a little deeper on this issue. Surely, President Obama, who is an avid supporter of education, would do no such a thing, would he? Turns out, NO HE DIDN’T!

What President Obama is doing, is allowing a temporary $85 million program to expire in 2010, like it was set to do. This extra money has only been going to HBCUs for two years (and from my understanding, this money was a gift/bribe/favor from Bush to get HBCUs off of his back, but I digress). Instead of giving HBCUs a lump sum of money like they were receiving, President Obama is strengthening student aid programs and slightly increasing HBCU’s discretionary funds. This is not a budget cut, so to speak. It’s more like moving dollars from one pot of money to a different one.. Granted, HBCU’s have been struggling for decades and could use every dollar that they can receive, but President Obama has not thrown HBCU’s under the bus, like so many would have us to believe.

Last week, the internet and Black radio talk shows were ablaze with this announcement. Folks were fired up! Rev. Al Sha’pton was ready to “keep it real” with another ma’ch on Washington. I’m sure Tavis Smiley instantly received a hard-on. I can see him now jumping up and down, pointing and screaming in the faces of Black folk, “See, I told you so. We need to hold this Negro accountable!” Sorry, Tavis. You need to take a cold shower because you don’t get to shine this time.

Obama's Host Poetry Jam @ White House

Michelle Obama had her long-awaited poetry jam at the White House Tuesday night.

Dressed for spring, the First Lady wore an asymmetrical patterned top, large earrings and cropped wide-legged white pants with her trademark kitten heels to the events, as seen below.

The president and first lady hosted an evening of music and poetry in the East Room of the White House Tuesday evening.

"We're here tonight not just to enjoy the works of these artists, but also to highlight the importance of the arts in our life and in our nation," said Obama.

Michelle Obama instructed the audience to "enjoy, have fun, and be loose." She said she wants the White House to be "a place where all voices can be heard."

Performers included Chicago poet Mayda del Valle, actor James Earl Jones, writers Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman (husband and wife), jazz bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding, pianist Eric Lewis and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Is the Michael Baisden Show the BET for “Grown Folks?

On my commute home from work, I often tune-in to the Michael Baisden show. It’s not because I want to, but because there are no other stations in my market that caters to my demographic or my taste: over 30, Black, and classic R-n-B.

When I first began to listen, I thought the show was funny and full of energy. But after a couple of weeks, I started to raise my eyebrows. Some of the topics that the producers choose for “grown folk” discussion have the potential to be serious and enlightening, such as ‘can a man rape his wife/girlfriend’, or ‘why are there so many single women’? Somehow though, Michael Baisden and his sidekick, George Willborn (who mysteriously sounds like a fake J. Anthony Brown from the Tom Joyner Morning Show) turn serious topics and what could be for some good discussions, into mockery. Although there are some decent topics that never reach their full potential for adult conversation, the majority of them are not only juvenile and filled with ignorance, but like BET, Michael Baisden finds joy and humor in promoting irresponsible and reckless behavior on the part of adults: cheating, swinging, erotic novels for teenage girls, bisexual affairs, and other inappropriate behaviors. In fact, the more I have listened, the more insulting I found it to be for Blacks in general, but especially degrading to Black women.

The underlying messages---that are not always so obvious---are demeaning to grown Black women that are wives, girlfriends, mothers, and daughters. For example, a couple of days ago, “the Bad Boys of radio” suggested that somehow, it was our fault that there are so many single Black women, as if we are doing something wrong. Forget the fact that men walk out on their families at the drop of a dime, or that perhaps, some of us may lost our significant others to illness, violence, or prison. Another thing I have noticed is that he rarely speaks to men issues or holds them accountable for their many, many, many problems, which suggests that Michael Baisden is the epitome of a weak, insecure, sociopathic man---it’s everyone else’s fault except for the perpetrator. On another show involving the issue of erotic novels, he wanted to know at what age is appropriate for teenagers to read these novels and had the audacity to advise mothers to show their teenage daughters how to “explore” themselves. Does he have some sick, twisted perception of women and relationships? And he’s always confessing his love to his “Big Sexy” (whom I think looks rather tranny if you ask me).

If his “radio personality” is any indication of his true personality, than unless girlfriend is in it for the money, she’s a damn fool, and as a woman, she should be thoroughly embarrassed by her "bad boy."

But what I find to be more disturbing than the content and quality of the show itself is the number of adult listeners that are fully engaged in this foolishness. Everyday, listeners will call-in to tell him and his sidekick, just how great they are and how much they love the show. Huh? Michael Baisden tries to come across as being deep or stirring up controversy, which he fails at both. Controversy is one thing, but bad radio is another. Just as parents and adults are up in arms about the lack of positive messages and images at BET, Michael Baisden’s Show is no different. He is simply an extension of BET-type bafoonery and foolishness, but for “grown folk radio.”

Last month I was watching the State of the Black Union.

Tavis Smiley had two symposiums

There was a brother on the 2nd panel, Van Jones who that time

was the President and Founder of Green for All.
Tavis voiced his concerns about Obama and affirmative action.

Well, this brother not only broke it down, he shut it down.
He spoke about how we need to watch Obama closely.
Don't look for him to do anything major with affirmative action.
He said we need to watch Obama and his progressive agenda with
the Greening of America and what that means exactly for us.
We cant's be ignorant or slow to move on how Obama is going to fight
poverty and pollution simultaneously.

He spoke on how we must leave that green is for white people mentality

at the curb. We must get on board Obama's Green Plan.
He broke it down how the ghetto will have to go green before anything else.
He called it the Greening of the Ghetto*.....
He broke it down how 40% of green houses gas comes from buildings

not cars 75% of green houses emissions are coming from the city (ghetto).

He broke it down the Obama legislation for funding green job training.
He broke it down how Obama will be the one who pushes us into the solar era
He broke it down how we (blacks) need to get Pookie and them into training.

Green Collar Training...

He broke it down how 99.9% of people entering

these fields are starting from scratch.
Nobody has training these green collar jobs.

He then said "watch him (Obama) closely"
He said "Obama has to green the ghetto 1st".

He said "we have to understand what Obama is doing".

He then said it again " watch him, watch his genius,

you won't find affirmative action in any green legislation."
He said if we just read the legislation we wouldn't say Obama
is the first black president...
We would say Obama is our 1st green president.

He spoke on how profound Obama is...
He warned that we need to open our eyes...understand this is
the end of the era of oil/coal.
We are moving into the solar era.

In the legislation Obama has 500 million for green job training.
Not job training, green job training.
11 billion for weatherization buildings to reduce global warming
which = jobs + contracts + all kinds of entrepreneurial opportunities
if we must see his vision, we must...
Watch him!!!!
Thousands of contracts for millions of building
that have to be retro fitted for solar panels.
He said we need must begin to have environmental conversations.
Especially with our young people.
Tell them young people to put down the handguns and pick up a caulking gun.

Well since the State of the Black Union last
month Van Jones has been appointed to the
Obama's Administration as a special advisor
on green jobs,enterprise and innovation.

Van Jones will be on Larry King tonight....WATCH HIM!!!

Clay Aiken sings beautifully to "Something About Us" along with pictures of Barack, Michelle and family. At first I immediately made the Jack and Jacqueline Kennedy comparison. You know, the whole Camelot thing. Yet, the more I see these people, this couple, this family, this black family and how they interact the more I realize that this is deeper than anything that the Kennedy's could ever aspired to obtain. When I see the Obama's I see my mother and father, I see my Uncle Clarence and my Aunt Bea, I see my Uncle Collins and his wife Peaches. I see all the loving black men that have shaped my life and my love for black men. So, whether or not Barack wins this election I am so damn happy, so overjoyed that America gets to see how 99.9% of black men love, respect, cherish, protect, provide and love their women and children. Never again can the black man be portrayed as some irresponsible pitiful and neglectful baby daddy without the portrait of what 99.9% of black men live day in and day out.

The Project Runway finale aired on Wednesday night and if you watched you know that Leanne Marshall with her waves-inspired collection beat out Kenley Collins and Korto Momolu for the win!
Leanne who I oh so agree with winning will receive a spread in Elle
magazine (as will the winning model, Tia Shipman), $100,000 courtesy of TRESemmé to start her own line, the chance to sell her line on Bluefly.com and a Saturn VUE hybrid.
Note: Korto’s super duper African inspired collection did strike me as the most wearable and as Tim Gunn pointed out Kenley’s collection had “impeccable construction”.

Dissecting The Undecided Voter: What Is Their Issues?

Last night during the 3^rd and final debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.

CNN hosted a focus group for undecided voters to a weigh in live with their opinions.

This group is still undecided despite the fact that both candidates have campaign websites, YouTube and MySpace pages?

They are undecided despite 24/7 campaign coverage from CNN, MSNBC and FOX.

They are undecided despite websites from The Huffington Post to Dick Morris.

With less than nineteen days to go my question is…

What is up with undecided voters?

Exactly who are these people and what information do they need to make a decision?

Are they undecided or confused when asked paper or plastic?

Are these the same people who when the light turns green can’t decided whether to go forward, turn left or right?

Are these the parents who leave the hospital with ‘Baby Jenkins’ because they can’t choose a baby name?

Are these the same people who hold up the line at McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, KFC or Burger King while they study the menu looking for something new?

Are these the woman who spends hours at a shoe store, holding salespeople captive until five minutes before closing leaving empty handed with promises to return the next day?

Are these the women at the hair salon torturing helpless stylist with her indecisiveness? “can you give me the Rihanna cut, with the Beyonce color but, a darker honey blonde…you know what never mind, just give me a wash and set”.

Are these the men at the Nissan dealership on Saturday morning’s test driving SUV’s over and over again? Can you really compare a Pathfinder to an Armada?

Who are these people and what is their problem?

What happens on November the 4^th do they stay in bed or do they go to the voting polls still confused, baffled and undecided?

What happens do they walk away scratchin’ their heads or do they just vote with their eyes closed?

I love good music and whenever a new artist grabs my attention I love to share it...
On 28 January 2008 Adele 19 went straight to #1 in the UK charts and was certified platinum within a month of its release. I purchased it @ Walmart Sunday, and I'm a certified Adele fan. Adele has described her musical style as "heartbroken soul", I don't know about heartbroken, I would describe it more like an awakening. My #1 favorite cut that I have on replay is Chasing Pavements, click play and let me know if your a fan...

Barack has been crowned the Name of the Year by Laura Wattenberg, creator of the Baby Name Wizard, a popular on-line trend tracking tool for parents to be at IVillage.
Findings from the federal agency are not promising for the name Hillary which weight in at 982 in the current top 1,000 names for girls. And for John it's #20 at the top 1,000 names for boys. Sarah?...I didn't bother to look it up.

Let's pray for Obama to maintain his inegrity and character..Let's pray also that he will seek spiritual covering and counseling.What must it feel like to carry the hopes and dreams of an entire nation of people on your shoulders?
Father, thank You for the United States and its government. I pray for Barack Obama. Please protect him from the evil that is in the world and him safe and free from all harm.

Your Word says that when good men are in authority, the people celebrate, but when wicked men are in authority, the people are unhappy. I pray that You will keep good men and women in authority over my country. I ask that You promote and raise up a generation of able politicians who are men and women of truth, full of wisdom and respectful towards You.

You have promised to bless any nation that follows after You. Help us to live quiet and peaceful lives so that we can continue to spread the Good News of the Gospel throughout the United States and the world.

I also pray that You give the men and women in leadership positions the understanding, wisdom and ability to keep this country in order. I ask that You guide Barack Obama's heart and cause him to make decisions that will promote godliness. Please keep evil and wicked men from influencing him. Keep his office based on things that are right.

Father, I pray for my brothers and sisters in the Lord who are in positions of leadership. I ask You to strengthen them in their hearts with all might by Your Spirit. Cause them to be bold and courageous. Surround them with favor as a shield, and expand their godly influence.

I pray for those in leadership positions who are not born again and who do not have a personal relationship with Your Son, Jesus. I pray that You will send someone to share Jesus with them and open their eyes to the light.

I pray for the Supreme Court. I ask that the men and women make righteous judgments, that they reach just and fair conclusions. Help the judges to inquire diligently, that they may make sound decisions. Turn their hearts to change past decisions and make new decisions that uphold goodness and godliness in our nation. If there is anyone who refuses godliness, I ask that he/she be removed and replaced by the one who respects godliness.

I ask that You cause the leaders of this country to make decisions that increase the integrity of our nation. Grant them the wisdom and insight needed to deal with this nation’s finances, that You may cause us to prosper and be a blessing to other nations.

May Your Word multiply in our nation’s capital so that our leaders may be better able to cooperate with Your plan and purpose.

Father, use this nation and its leaders in this great harvest of souls that will take place in the last days. I praise and thank You for blessing my country. I pray that our nation will accomplish the things that You want us to accomplish. I thank You that Jesus is Lord over the United States of America.
