You write it alone.
You feel it alone.
And then suddenly it belongs to a room full of people.

That is exactly what happened with my poem for the O, Miami Poetry Festival as part of the 305 Generation project.

What started as something quiet, something rooted in memory and in my abuelita, became something shared. And not just shared, felt.

I ended up placing second, which still feels surreal to say out loud. But if I am being honest, the placement is not the part that is staying with me.

It was the reaction.

It was people stopping me throughout the night, in passing, on the way to the bathroom, just to tell me what the poem meant to them.

It was hearing that the way I delivered it, the inflection, the voice, the emotion, made it land in a way they did not expect.

That is the part you cannot plan for.

As an artist, I have always loved taking something imagined and making it real. Usually that shows up in drawings, animation, and the strange little characters that live in my head. This felt different.

This was me.

No characters. No buffer. Just words and voice.

And somehow that vulnerability turned into connection.

I have been sharing small pieces of what I am working on lately, bits of animation, fragments of ideas, but this felt like a moment worth sharing in full.

So here it is.

The poem. The performance. The moment.

Thank you to everyone who listened, who felt something, who came up to me and shared a kind word. And thank you to the 305 Generation project for creating space for voices like mine.

This one meant a lot.

Life has a funny way of connecting you with amazing people when you least expect it. A year ago, I had the privilege of creating an animation for my friend Alex aka 2Mex.

So, Alex came to me with this hilarious comedy skit, and honestly, I couldn’t wait to bring his vision to life through animation. It was such a fun project – creating every frame, making sure his personality shined through, and adding little details to match his vibe. You know, it’s collaborations like this that remind me why I love being a creator.

Fast forward to yesterday, and Alex is celebrating his record release party! ???? It’s been so cool watching him crush it, and I couldn’t be prouder to call him my friend. He’s not just a talented artist, but someone who truly supports and inspires creativity in everyone around him.

This project was a creative milestone for me and a testament to the power of collaboration and friendship.

Houston! We’re officially a published artist as of August 13, 2024. We’re thrilled to share that Inkeater has been featured in Penguin RandomHouse DK’s latest release, Supernatural Creatures: Mythical and Sacred Creatures from Around the World! They asked us for permission to include one of our cryptid drawings, El Peuchen—a vampiric serpent from Chilean folklore known for its eerie shapeshifting abilities.

Our artwork is showcased on page 164 of this stunning collection, which explores mythical creatures from cultures across the globe. This project perfectly aligns with the strange, quirky aesthetic we embrace at Inkeater, and we’re honored to be credited in the acknowledgments section.

As long-time cryptids and supernatural legends fans, it’s exciting to see our take on El Peuchen come to life in such a widely distributed book. Supernatural Creatures is now available at major retailers, including Barnes & Noble, Walmart, and Target.
