The NHL playoffs get underway on Tuesday night, with action airing on NBC, NBC Sports Network, CNBC and the NHL Network, plus locally on MSG and MSG Plus.
The Rangers will play at Washington on Thursday and Saturday (afternoon) and host the Caps on Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 8. The series wraps up on May 10 (at Washington), May 12 (at the Garden) and May 13 (at Washington.
The Islanders will play at Pittsburgh on Wednesday and Friday and host the Pens on Sunday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 7. The series wraps up on May 9 (at Pittsburgh), May 11 (at the Coliseum) and May 12 (at Pittsburgh).
If last year is any indication, should any game run past its allotted time window (likely due to overtime), the next game on NBC Sports Network or CNBC would start on NHL Network and switch back to the original network when the overtime is finished.

The New York Giants will have five nationally televised games in 2013, and the New York Jets will have just two.
The Giants will play three Sunday Night Football games on NBC: the Sept. 8 opener at Dallas, Nov. 17 against Green Bay and Dec. 1 at Washington. The Giants also have a Thursday Night Football game on NFL Network at Chicago on Oct. 10, and host Minnesota on ESPN’s Monday Night Football on Oct. 21, presenting an unusual 11 days between games.
The Jets play at New England in a Thursday night game on NFL Network on Sept. 12, and play at Atlanta on Monday night Oct. 7.
There is an unusual TV scheduling issue that would affect the New York market on opening week. With the Jets playing at home on Sept. 8, in a game televised by Fox, NFL blackout rules won’t allow a CBS telecast at that time, and since CBS has no 4 p.m. games scheduled (due to the U.S. Open tennis finals), New Yorkers will be denied a CBS telecast unless something can be worked out.
UPDATE, Friday afternoon: A CBS Sports spokesman said CBS will have a 1 p.m. telecast on Sept. 8, even though the Jets have a home game at the same time.
The antiquated NFL blackout rules will also deny the New York market four doubleheader games: Oct. 6 (CBS), Oct. 13 (Fox), Nov. 3 (CBS) and Dec. 8 (Fox).

Here are the games that will likely be shown in the New York market:

Thursday, Sept. 5
Baltimore at Denver, 8:30 p.m. (NBC)
beIN Sport scored a coup last year when it acquired the rights to Italy’s Serie A soccer league. The network also airs La Liga from Spain and Ligue 1 from France, plus the United States men’s national team’s away games in World Cup qualifying and South American World Cup qualifiers.
The network will also televise international tennis, golf, volleyball, rugby, handball, motorsports and other events.

The New York Giants get one nationally televised preseason game in 2013 and the Jets are shut out.
The broadcast networks continue to scale back their preseason coverage, opting not to show any games in weeks one and four. NBC and CBS will show two games, Fox has three and ESPN has four. The NFL Network does not produce its own preseason telecasts but it will blanket its schedule from Aug. 8-30 with local preseason telecasts with a handful of live games (that do not conflict with nationally televised games) and lots of tape-delayed showings.

August
Sun. 4 – Dallas vs. Miami, at Canton, Ohio, 8 p.m. (NBC)
Thur. 8 – Cincinnati at Atlanta, 8 p.m. (ESPN)
Thur. 15 – San Diego at Chicago, 8 p.m. (ESPN)
Fri. 16 – Tampa Bay at New England, 8 p.m. (Fox)
Sun. 18 – Indianapolis at Giants, 8 p.m. (Fox)
Mon. 19 – Pittsburgh at Washington, 8 p.m. (ESPN)
Thur. 22 – Carolina at Baltimore, 8 p.m. (ESPN)
Fri. 23 – Seattle at Green Bay, 8 p.m. (CBS)
Sat. 24 – St. Louis at Denver, 8 p.m. (CBS)
Sun. 25 – New Orleans at Houston, 4 p.m. (Fox)
Sun. 25 – Minnesota at San Francisco, 8 p.m. (NBC)

The Giants’ and Jets’ preseason schedules (dates still to be set):
Aug. 8-11 – Giants at Pittsburgh; Jets at Detroit
Aug. 15-19 – Indianapolis at Giants (Aug. 18); Jacksonville at Jets
Aug. 22-25 – Jets at Giants
Aug. 29-30 – Giants at New England; Philadelphia at Jets
Count on the Jets being televised by WCBS-2 and the Giants on WNBC-4.
