USA Shooting Team Shares Their Holiday Memories and 2013 Resolutions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 21, 2012)

Well, it seems as if the Mayans might have been slightly misguided in their bold prognostication of this world’s demise. Luckily for us, that means we still had the ability to reach out to our members, fans and supporters and wish them the very best this holiday season and to also take a moment to reflect back upon 2012 with the fondness and appreciation it deserves.

As shooting sports fans, we’ll remember 2012 for Kim Rhode’s rise to Olympic fame despite an environment littered with deeper attraction to swimmers, runners and gymnasts. We’ll remember Vincent Hancock’s stoic ascension to skeet greatness; the Jamie Gray smile as almost finally became foremost; and the pit in our stomachs that followed Matt Emmons’ final shot of 7.6 and the jubilation that followed when “oh no” finally became “hell yes.”

2012 Season Wrap Up by Paul Bambara

Having arrowed a super buck early in the season, I had been searching, without success, for another outstanding trophy to hang my second buck tag on. Since killing my buck on October 18th, I hunted a month hard, put some more venison in the freezer, but had yet to see or find sign of another really large buck. Sunday morning, I went wandering into an area I rarely hunt because of its remoteness. I was amazed at the large shredded trees and giant scrapes everywhere. Tuesday found me hiking an hour before sunrise to be in place there and hope for the best.

NRA to create a National School Shield Program to Protect our Nations Schools

The NRA has just concluded a massive press conference announcing that they will take their resources and team along with ASA Hutchinson and create a National School Shields Program for Emergency Response for every school that wants it. I applaud the leadership set forth by the NRA and as a parent with 3 kids at school I will be a strong voice when my local schools begin to debate this process.

"The NRA is going to bring all of its knowledge, dedication and resources to develop a model National School Shield Emergency Response Program for every school that wants it. From armed security to building design and access control to information technology to student and teacher training, this multi-faceted program will be developed by the very best experts in their fields.

Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson will lead this effort as National Director of the National School Shield Program, with a budget provided by the NRA of whatever scope the task requires. His experience as a U.S. Attorney, Director of the Drug Enforcement Agency and Undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security will give him the knowledge and expertise to hire the most knowledgeable and credentialed experts available anywhere, to get this program up and running from the first day forward.

If we truly cherish our kids more than our money or our celebrities, we must give them the greatest level of protection possible and the security that is only available with a properly trained — armed — good guy."

New Berlin, WI - (November 16, 2012) - When Steven Rinella of MeatEater takes his cooking knowledge from the field to the kitchen to create his version of Thanksgiving Dinner, one thing is for sure - this is not your typical home-cooking. Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor television for the American Sportsman, brings audiences into Rinella's kitchen for an unforgettable Thanksgiving dinner. In true MeatEater fashion, Rinella uses wild game harvested from various hunts for every dish on the menu. The featured dishes are as diverse as the lands Rinella hunts, from wild turkey galantine to smoked black bear ham and even a classic mincemeat pie. Watch all of the ingredients come together for a mouthwatering meal on the first ever MeatEater cooking special Sunday, November 18 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT during the Sunday Sportsman primetime block of programming.

The wild turkey galantine is created from a spring gobbler Rinella harvested in Montana. The turkey meat is ground with venison and fat to ensure tenderness and flavor and then delicately wrapped in turkey skin, which creates a sausage-like casing.

Being outdoors in the crisp air and enjoying the tapestry of colors only enhances our enjoyment of these activities. If that wasn't reason enough to introduce a newcomer, NSSF, the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry, gives you 10 motivators to do so based on recent surveys and studies.

Vote for Michael Jackson

I have longed believed that the Hunting Life was a site about more then just bullets, bolts and arrows, we were a group of people who live our lives hunting out the best life has to offer in the same way we pursue the best of the outdoors. While I was at Kansas Speedway, I had the opportunity to meet a young man who is doing just that and while he is not currently a hunter, I could not of been more impressed by Michael Jackson. He and my son Tristan seemed to hit it off and talk for a bit, while I got to spend a few minutes talking with Jacob Drescher about Michael and the Starlight Children's Foundation. I could tell from Tristan that this young man inspired him and I know he inspired me without question.

Michael Jackson is spending his life leading by example and showing the world nothing should get in the way of happiness. Michael is 18 years old and has battled cerebral palsy, a life threatening condition, for his entire life, Jackson serves as a Young Adult Community Leader for the Starlight Children's Foundation's Starbright World bringing hope, inspiration, support and laughter to fellow teens with serious and chronic illnesses. Jackson has also raised funds for Starlight to sponsor Starlight Fun Center mobile entertainment units at Essentia Children's Hospital in Duluth so that other children could benefit from the Fun Center's games and movies as part of distraction therapy just as he did.
