We had a great day at Geauga Lakes’s Wildwater Kingdom!
I started out trying to capture the fun on my small point and shoot camera (so glad I left my big camera at home) but soon handed it off so that I could get in on the action. It didn’t take long before it ended up securely locked in the locker we rented with the rest of our dry things. We all wanted to participate in the soaking wet good time!

I was afraid that my kids wouldn’t be big enough to fully enjoy a waterpark but I was wrong. Geauga Lakes’s Wildwater Kingdom was colorful, clean, and perfect for a day of family fun. We actually spent most of our day at Splash Landing which is a huge playland of water slides, bridges, towers, and a billion ways to get completely drenched. There was no chance of coming out of that place with even a dry spot. We had 4 adults, 1 teenager, a 4 year old and a 3 year old…we were all laughing and dripping wet in no time. Noah was in his element. He tried every slide and could barely contain himself as he tried all the water shooting gadgets. And if we weren’t wet enough, every few minutes a giant bucket would dump 1,000 gallons of water over the whole thing.

It didn’t take long to work up an appetite so we decided to sample some park food. Our shaded table was filled with pizza, hot dogs, cheese sticks, fries, soda, lemonade and my choice- the loaded park fries. Noah and Chloe had their own little picnic table which they really liked.

As we were having lunch we saw Snoopy and Charlie Brown and the kids just had to meet them.

Next we headed for Riptide Run to relax on some tubes and ride the lazy river. The little ones had to wear lifejackets and they were provided for them at the start of the attraction. We all loved this one and the water falls and dumping buckets were a fun addition. We even had to spend some time manning the dumping buckets ourselves on the way out targeting the most unsuspecting and driest victims.

The huge colorful waterslides at Thunder Falls looked like loads of fun but look was all we did when it came to all the big slides. We wanted to spend the day together and that meant sticking with the littlest members of our group. I have to admit though,Liquid Lightning looked like a total blast. I’ve never seen anything like it! It was a giant 60-foot-tall, 253-foot-long funnel laying on its side.

After taking a look at the “big rides”, we made our way over to Tidal Wave Bay. The kids loved playing in the rolling waves and shooting geysers. Half of our group ventured out into the deeper area and the other half splashed around in the shallow end. Fun was had by all. It was here that I really noticed the dilligence of the lifeguards on duty. There were 8 of them keeping careful watch over the tidal pool.

The lifeguards at Geauga Lake were the best I’ve ever seen. They were dilligent, attentive, and extremely aware of their surroundings. I was definately impressed. On the very first water slide the kids went down, Chloe was pretty nervous. The lifeguard came over, took her hand, and that was all she needed to get her on her way. As a mother, it was a great reassurance that my children were being watched so carefully by trained professionals that took their job very seriously.

We ended our day back at Splash Landing because Noah would have lived there if he could have. We were all as thoroughly soaked and wrinkled as possible. It was a completely wet and fun-filled experience. The kids were begging to come back before we even got out to the car and they were asleep by the time we left the the parking lot. What a fantastic way to spend one of our last hot summer days!

Every April and September I am faced with the sometimes daunting tasks involved with planning a child’s birthday party. If you are like me, you want your child’s birthday to be really special. This year as I tearfully but gratefully begin to plan Noah’s 5th birthday (he’s nearly 5?!?!) I’ve been looking at the beautiful and stylish birthday invitations from Shutterfly.

There are so many cute styles to choose from that I’m having a hard time making a decision. He wants a robot party and there are several options to fit his theme and my personal taste. The invitations I’m trying out are flat 5×7 stationary cards printed on premium eco-friendly cardstock. They are available in photo and text only options and it seems a very simple process to customize the invitation of my choice. I always shoot a portrait of Noah and Chloe for their birthdays to commemorate another wonder-filled year of life and growth so I do plan to include a photo. Often times these are the only pictures I manage to actually get printed on a regular basis.

I have ordered prints from Shutterfly in the past and have been pleased with their free unlimited picture storage and quick turnaround. I expect nothing less from them than competative pricing, professional quality and great service.

And it’s never too early to start picking out our Christmas card and I’ve already been browsing Shutterfly’s selection of photo Christmas cards.

Want to try some free flat 5×7 stationary cards too? One Hush Mama reader will get 20 cards of their own (10 to keep and 10 to give away!).

I breastfed my son for a year. Seven months later I began nursing my daughter and continued for almost two years. It wasn’t easy. It was a real commitment and sometimes a real struggle too.
I wasn’t the type to whip out my boob in public. I wish I had been. But unfortunately I ended up in the car, in someone’s bedroom, and very sadly…a bathroom or two. Even around my closest friends and family I hid behind blankets and pillows.
I wish I had seen nursing covers like the ones at Udder Covers.
Udder Covers sent me a Porter Nursing cover, a set of 4 washable cotton breast pads, and a Milk Bands bracelet.

Milk Bands are a uniquely designed nursing bracelet that enables the mother to quickly and conveniently identify which breast she last used to feed her baby by simply turning the bracelet inside-out. You could even keep track in the dark because the word “left” is indented and the word “right” is raised. I remember the nurse at the hospital telling me to use a safety pin on my bra to mark which side the baby nursed from last. This bracelet is so much better. It has time measuring sliders that can be used for multiple purposes such as tracking how long your baby fed or what time.

The cover is made of a very lightweight cotton material. No hot and sweaty babies under these covers. The print suits my taste perfectly and there are several to choose from. It is generously sized and comfortable. The top of the cover contains a rigid material that holds it away from your body to enable eye contact with your little one without giving anyone else a peek. There is an easily adjustable tapered strap that goes around your neck to hold it in place…you won’t have to worry that your baby is going to yank it away.

“Our covers allow mothers everywhere to breastfeed their babies in comfort, style and confidence… anytime – anyplace!”

Win it! One lucky Hush Mama reader will win a cover like the one I received!
Mandatory Entry Just visit Udder Covers and tell me which is your favorite.

Noah called it an atlantis
He hitched a ride on the back of his shirt and the kids took turns gently holding it. They laughed when it turned it’s little head to look at us. Chloe screamed when it ran up her arm and into her hair. I was afraid to hold it and was amazed at how sweet and kind they were with a fragile little body.
Every tiny thing is a chance to explore and learn…in their hands the world is still new and magical.

The park was super hot today but Noah was bouncing off the walls so we walked there anyway. I stay home with the kids and I oversee most every interaction Noah and Chloe have with other kids. These days they can play independently and so when we go to the park I try to keep my distance and let them socialize. I try. But inevitably there will be a kid that pushes or chucks a handful of sand/mulch/dirt/whatever at one of mine and I want to run and dive to take it in the chest like their own personal bodyguard.
I pretty much let them handle it (unless there is any real danger involved at all) and it never fails that they leave the park calling the perpetrator their new friend.
It’s hard for me not to hover over them and it may be even harder for their daddy.
And it’s scary to think that I won’t always be in control of the situations they will encounter.
